It started as a 2 bay building and Jeff and Angie’s home. Now an 11 bay building with over 30 employees. In 2014 a shop in Mendota was added. Moore Tires fix and replace tires of all kinds including cars, trucks, semis, farm, ATV and lawn mower tires. They also do auto repair, such as brakes, shocks/struts, alignments and oil changes. They offer free tire rotations for the life of the tires when purchasing 4 tires. No appointments are needed for any service! Our customers are always given a an estimated time of completion so they know when to expect their vehicle to be done. Moore Tires also has loaner cars for their customers to get to work after drop off or customers are welcome to sit and wait in the comfortable waiting area with free coffee, water and snacks! Open Sesame was founded in 1975 by a group of local citizens committed to providing quality, affordable, child care for working families. In 2006 Open Sesame expanded into the Sterling area with a site at Sterling High School that is open to the public as well as for teen parents. Candlelight Inn
The Candlelight Inn opened in June of 1967 under the ownership of Chuck Sisson, Lyman Prescott and Bob Prescott. After a short period, Chuck and Lyman left the business, although Lyman continued to own the building. The business thrived for more than 20 years, especially after the invention of Chicken George in the early 1970s. In the mid 1980s Bob and his wife, Jan, decided that their next move should be to buy the building the restaurant occupied at the 100 block of West Third. However, Lyman Prescott did not want to sell. Thus, they looked at other options and settled on a location on the north end of Sterling, 2907 N. Locust. The building actually had been a barn at one time but was remodeled into a restaurant over the years and, before the Prescotts’ purchase in 1989, it was a restaurant known as “The Country Squire.” They moved the business, remodeled and added on. Their customers followed them, and the Candlelight grew. In 2000, their son Matthew came home and took over the responsibility and ownership of the Sterling location. He saw a need to continue building the business, and in 2004 he built the Candlelight Inn at 2200 First Avenue, Rock Falls. The new location brought a whole new look and attitude to the Candlelight Inn name. In 2010 he leased the restaurant and marina in Clinton, Iowa, at 511 Riverview Drive.

I’ve had to make a lot of decisions over the years and moving here was one of the best decisions I’ve made. Favorite Hardware Store of Dixon Ace Hardware and Outdoor Center opened in 1977 by Roger Kelly and a partner at 735 N. Galena Avenue. In 1979, they moved to their current location of 900 N. Galena Avenue where they sold boats, motors, outdoor equipment and hardware. In 1992, Jennifer Kelly (Roger’s granddaughter) joined the business and was followed by her brother Chris (grandson) in 1994. In 1995, Rich Kelly (Roger’s son) purchased Roger’s partner’s share and joined the family business. Throughout the years, extensive remodeling and additions have taken place including: a warehouse in 2003, a face-lift for the front of the store in 2005, a remodel of the back
storage area in 2006, a total store reset in 2007 and in 2014, a remodel of the existing warehouse into the new rental department, and the addition of a new warehouse. Today, Ace Hardware and Outdoor Center is a complete hardware store with extensive plumbing and electrical departments and a full line of hardware and specialty fasteners with sizes up to grade 8. A large paint department features Ace Paint, Clark + Kensington Paint and Valspar Paint, and can custom tint any of our paint brands to suit your needs. Stihl and Toro outdoor power equipment and Weber grills are some of the other products Ace carries.
