E-P boys and girls each take second at Warrior Invite The Erie-Prophetstown boys and girls track teams both took second place at the Warrior Invite on Saturday at Westwood Sport Complex. The Sterling boys and girls teams both won the title at their own invite.

In the boys meet, Sterling scored 104 points, and Erie-Prophetstown finished with 73.5. United Township (60), Rock Island (54) and Rochelle (17.5) rounded out the field.

Erie-Prophetstown finished 1-2 in the pole vault and long jump. Parker Holdorf (4.27 meters) and Aidan Jepson (3.52) took the top two spots in the vault, and Braxton Froeliger (6.72 meters) and Damahz Slater (5.73) went 1-2 in the long jump.

Froeliger also won the 200 (24.35), and Caleb Naftzger won the triple jump (11.24) for the Panthers. The foursome of Zeke Weidel, Andrew Bomleny, Wyatt Beck and Charlie Link won the 4x800 (10:10.99).

Bomleny also took third in the 3,200 (13:25.23), and the quartet of Trevor Cobo, Froeliger, Ben Lantz and Michael Carlson was second in the 4x200 (1:39.03). The team of Tyson Skinner, Caden Sutton, Daytan Greenwood and Joey Lindsay took second in the 4x800 (10:53.61).

On the girls side, Sterling scored 120.5 points, and Erie-Prophetstown finished with 74. Rock Island (57), Rochelle (36) and United Township (21.5) also competed.

Erie-Prophetstown was led by triple-winners Kennedy Buck and Riley Packer. Buck finished first in the 400 (1:05.60), shot put (10.52 meters), and the 4x400 relay (4:34.26), along with Jade Nickerson, Dylan Chandler and Packer. Nickerson, Chandler and Packer teamed with Jillian Norman to win the 4x800 relay (11:05.19), and Packer also won the 800 (2:32.74).

The Panthers went 1-2-3 in the pole vault with Hayley Wuebben (2.90 meters), Olivia Purvis (2.44) and Gracelyn Abell (2.29). Madyson Bushaw (triple jump, 9.11) and Dominique Robinson (shot put, 9.37) also took third for E-P.

STERLING – Like crocuses through the spring snow, colorful new activities are popping up all over the Whiteside County Senior Center.

Susie Welch, the former Foster Grandparent program director at TriCounty Opportunities Council in Rock Falls, is the center’s new director. In just three months at the helm, she has shepherded numerous new activities, which is bringing membership back up.

The center, 1207 W. Ninth St., was closed to in-person visits during the pandemic, providing what services it could, such as caregiver assistance, over the phone only.

Now “all our activities are back and going strong,” Welch said, noting the isolation caused by COVID-19 restrictions was particularly hard on the area’s senior population.

Those who haven’t been to the senior center, or haven’t been there in a while, will be pleasantly surprised by all there is to do. Many services and activities are available to anyone – not just the 60-and-older set – and are free.

Among the center’s offerings are the new lunch service, provided by Golden Wheels of Freeport. It’s the same agency that delivers meals regionwide.

At the senior center, lunch is served from 11 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday.

The cost is $3, and because Golden Wheels runs the service, diners can pay for their meals with a LINK card.

“I’ve tried them. They are tasty,” Welch said. “I found it to be very filling.”

A Breakfast Club at which the center’s Yvonne Jones will meet with seniors the last Friday of the month at a rotating slate of restaurants starts March 25.

“Eating alone is not fun,” Welch said, noting this will not only help seniors socialize but also will be good

Although the center offers services to those 60 and older, anyone can join – the cost is $25 a year – and most activities are available to anyone, usually free of charge.

She also wants to help center users keep up with the latest technology.

With the help of Surf Broadband reps, the center has been offering sessions on how to stream online. The free classes are among those open to anyone in the community; the next is at 1 p.m. Friday and then again at 6 p.m.

In addition, IT students from the Whiteside Area Career Center have been spending Fridays at the center giving tech advice. They’ll be doing that through April, when the school year ends.

Free tax preparation services are available to all, as well. Preparers are volunteers and are trained free of charge. Most work only a few hours a day a few days a week, and while this year is covered, the center is trying to line up volunteers for next year.

What else? Well, the center now provides space for a Thursday afternoon

jam session where musicians can get together from 1 to 4 p.m. and play or just hang out with other musicians.

The center has a piano; participants also are invited to bring their instruments.

There’s a once-a-week Bible study session, yoga, line dancing is starting in April, as is a new walking club, where seniors can chat while doing laps around the center in a safe space and out of the weather.

Welch has started a little bring-onetake-one library, and also is showing classic movies once a month.

That’s all on top of the regular activities, including pool, cards and crafts.

Among the services the center offers is a food pantry.

One of the first projects Welch initiated was converting a closet into the pantry, which had been stationed outside in the Whiteside County Public Transportation bus garage.

Once a week staff would spend three

hours dragging the food indoors, then three hours putting it back. This will eliminate that hassle, Welch said.

Once the closet conversion is finished, the pantry will be open once a week for two hours – a time that still is being determined – and on an as-needed basis should a senior have a food emergency such as a refrigerator conking out, she said.

The center also is working on a plan to create a mobile food pantry that will use the center’s minivan and volunteer vehicles to take food out into outlying county communities such as Morrison, Erie and Prophetstown.

“That’s our goal,” Welch said.

Donations are gratefully accepted for the pantry, but money is better that actual food because staff can buy food at greatly discounted prices from the food bank, she said.

Welch’s goal is to make the senior center as vibrant, social and useful as possible, not only with seniors but for the whole community, she said.

“The senior center is a great place where people can come and feel safe, feel like they belong and enjoy life,” Welch said.

As for her senior members, “we want to be a blessing to them during their enjoyable years.”

Illinois Attorney General files lawsuit over alleged contamination at 3M’s Cordova plant Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul has filed a lawsuit against 3M alleging that the company’s improper handling of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) – also known as “forever chemicals” for their persistence in the environment – resulted in ongoing contamination at and around its facility in Cordova.

Raoul’s lawsuit, filed in Rock Island County Circuit Court last week, alleges that 3M’s negligent operations at its facility in Cordova have resulted in significant levels of PFAS contamination at and around the facility, which is located on the banks of the Mississippi River.

The lawsuit further alleges that despite being aware of the health and environmental hazards connected to PFAS, 3M has downplayed negative impacts. The Attorney General’s office is partnering on the case with a team of outside counsel who have been designated as special assistant attorneys general.

“For decades, 3M has been aware of the dangers of PFAS, or ‘forever chemicals.’ Despite scientific evidence generated by its own research, 3M downplayed or denied the health and environmental hazards connected to PFAS, and even promoted these toxic chemicals as being safe to manufacture,” Raoul said. “3M must be held accountable for the contamination its operations in Cordova have caused. This lawsuit is an important step toward accountability and protecting the surrounding environment and public health.”

3M has owned and operated its Cordova facility since about 1970. It is one of three facilities where 3M manufactures a number of chemical products including adhesives, resins, fluorochemicals and other specialty chemicals.

The lawsuit alleges that 3M was aware as early as the 1960s that PFAS are toxic and do not biodegrade in the environment. Further 3M testing throughout the 1970s confirmed the toxicity of PFAS to aquatic wildlife, including fish species.

Despite that, 3M continued to manufacture, discharge and dispose of PFAS at the Cordova facility, while it promoted PFAS as being safe to manufacture and use. On its website, 3M continues to deny the adverse health and environmental impacts of PFAS. “Illinois EPA is working closely with the Attorney General’s office to provide necessary evidence on the extent of PFAS contamination that has impacted ground and surface waters,” Illinois EPA Director John J. Kim said. “Holding 3M responsible for their actions is important as we continue to assist in this process to ensure the contamination is addressed properly by the facility.”

The lawsuit alleges that 3M’s Cordova operations’ specifically leaked and spilled PFAS and PFAS-containing waste have resulted in significant levels of PFAS contamination. Sampling conducted by 3M, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has confirmed the presence of contaminated groundwater under and around the facility, as well as the Mississippi River.

Testing done at one groundwater monitoring well in 2020 showed PFAS levels several thousand parts per trillion higher than proposed state standards. In addition, 3M discharges more than 8 million gallons

The 3M plant is located at 22614 Illinois 84 in Cordova. of contaminated wastewater directly into the Mississippi River each day, and wastewater sampling has shown levels of toxic PFAS in the wastewater.

PFAS are human-made, synthetic chemicals that do not exist naturally in the environment. PFAS are highly toxic to humans and animals, and they are extremely resistant to degradation in the environment, which is why PFAS are known as “forever chemicals.”

PFAS contaminants may be linked to serious adverse health effects in humans and animals, including increased serum cholesterol, immune dysregulation, pregnancy-induced hypertension, and kidney and testicular cancers.

Exposure to certain types of PFAS is also associated with low birth weight in babies, suppressed immune system response, dyslipidemia, impaired kidney function and delayed onset of menstruation.

Raoul’s lawsuit seeks to require 3M to address PFAS contamination and protect public health and the environment. The lawsuit also seeks civil penalties of up to $50,000 for each violation of the Illinois Environmental Protection Act and associated regulations, and additional civil penalties of $10,000 for each day the violations continue. In addition, the lawsuit seeks damages arising from PFAS contamination and injury of natural resources.

Division Chief Matthew Dunn, Bureau Chief Stephen Sylvester and Deputy Bureau Chief Gerald Karr, along with Senior Assistant Attorney General Ellen O’Laughlin and Assistant Attorney General Karen Howard are handling the case for Raoul’s Environmental Bureau.

In addition, attorneys representing DiCello Levitt Gutzler LLC, Keating Muething & Klekamp PLL, and Fields PLLC will co-prosecute the case as special assistant attorneys general.

According to the 3M website, the Cordova plant makes a wide variety of specialty chemicals and adhesives.

“We blend, react and purify hundreds of products using a wide variety of technologies throughout the plant. Ultimately, these products are used by other 3M manufacturing facilities or go into industrial, commercial and consumer applications around the world for a broad range of customers,” the website said. “3M Cordova is a high-tech, two-factory facility consisting of electronic materials and internal materials manufacturing. We supply products to over 30 divisions within 3M.” A short list of the products made include: Acrylate Monomers, Acrylate Polymer Adhesives, Solid and Liquid Epoxy Resins, Low Adhesion Backsizes, 3M™ Novec™ Engineered Fluids, 3M™ Novec™ 1230 Fire Protection Fluid, Performance Fluids, Specialty Gases, and Battery Electrolytes.

Construction on 3M Cordova began in 1969 and production operations started in 1970.

“Today, the plant occupies over a half million square feet of manufacturing and warehouse space.

Employees are highly skilled and experienced in their fields,” the website said.

Retired Quad Cities Waterkeeper Art Norris of Silvis responded to the lawsuit against the company by saying: “I could say much here. But honestly, I feel that more prominent people have been saying this to us for years, and the majority of us have not listened. Greed over need is now the American way sadly.

“Shame should be on those for what they have done to our children’s future over money. But the blame is on many of us also. Reason being for turning a blind eye to the pollution that exists around us daily, and goes on unabated.”

JAMES WINSLOW “HUFFER” HUFMAN, 75, of Morrison, IL, died Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at Resthave Home in Morrison.

His memorial service will be at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at the Morrison United Methodist Church with Rev. Calvin Haines officiating.

The memorial visitation will precede the service starting at 11:30 AM until the time of the service. Cremation rites will be accorded.

The Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Inurnment will be at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family has established memorials to Resthave Home, Morrison United Methodist Church and MercyOne Hospice.

James was born May 4, 1946, in Iowa City, IA, to William D. and Mildred L. (Rhymer) Hufman. He was educated in the Morrison grade schools and Morrison High School.

RONALD ‘RON’ B. SCHLOTFELDT Born: July 15, 1946 Died: March 16, 2022

Ronald “Ron” B. Schlotfeldt, 75, of Hillsdale, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at Genesis Medical Center Illini Campus.

Funeral services were Monday, March 21, 2022, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Burial was at the Rock Island National Cemetery, where military honors

will be conducted.

He married Beverly A. Becker on August 22, 1981, at the United Methodist Church in Mt. Carroll, IL. James worked for General Electric in Morrison for 35 years until retiring in 2000. He also delivered newspapers for the Quad City Times for 30 years. After retiring, he drove semi’s and had various other jobs.

He was a member of the Morrison United Methodist Church. He was also a member of and served on the board of Morrison GE Employees Federal Credit Union, a member of the GE AA Golf League and of the GE Bowling League. James was a Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan, an avid golfer and loved riding in his corvettes. He and Beverly made several motorcycle trips to Sturgis in South Dakota. Together they enjoyed wintering in Florida for 12 years.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly; three daughters, Laura (Bob) Dudgeon of Bloomington, IL, Heather (Phil Kuehl) Hufman of Prophetstown, IL and Sheri (Dennis) Benters of Mt. Carroll, IL; one son, Scott (Cindy) Sisler of Mt. Carroll, IL; eleven grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; one great-greatgrandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, James Michael Hufman.

Ron retired from Rock Island Integrated Services at the Rock Island Arsenal as a supervisor. He enjoyed being outdoors fishing, hunting, and camping. He also liked tending to his yard and gardening.

Erie Board of Education hears about various projects

Funding for ongoing and upcoming projects was discussed at the Erie Board of Education meeting Monday, Feb. 28.

Superintendent Chuck Milem reviewed some recent unforeseen operations and maintenance costs, including fixing the middle school hot water heater and some HVAC repairs and purchasing an ADA compliant bus. He said the budget is in good shape, with enough funds to cover the additional expenses.

Milem reported that the 1% sales tax brought in $36,857 last month and $261,245 in total since the measure was approved, with those funds going toward capital projects. He said the district will be replacing the middle school windows using ESSER III funds. The district will be receiving grant funds to cover laptop upgrades for the ninth grade class and some staffers, with 90% of the costs covered. Those bids will be voted on at an upcoming meeting.

The district was awarded a school maintenance grant for fencing around the football and track field.

Due to the cost projections, the district will need to accept formal bids and be subjected to prevailing wage law. The board approved the fencing bid specs for the sealed bid process, with a vote expected at the March meeting. The new fencing will be a powder-coated black fence that’s more aesthetically appealing, while taking care of the ongoing maintenance issues needed for the current fence.

In a Health Life & Safety funds update, Milem reported that he’s waiting on a report to be completed before moving forward with asbestos abatement and updating the fire alarm panel at the middle school. He reported that minimal asbestos abatement has been finished at an acquired property across from the

school, with Brooks Excavating to begin demolition soon. The area will be taped off until it’s cleared of debris.

In a TIF update, Milem reported that he met with Moran Economic Development and village officials about the TIF process for the village, which they hope to have in place by June or July. He said the village is being proactive in establishing the TIF district, which will attract developers, help with infrastructure and blight, and hopefully help with housing development. Milem also reported that he’s been meeting with Bray Architects to come up with designs and concepts for work at the schools, with weekly committee meetings going forward with the Building and Grounds Committee.

In other action, the board approved the 2022-23 school calendar which is now posted on the school website. The board approved a oneyear farm lease agreement for district-owned property near the school.

Milem said they’re not sure what to do with the land yet, but Gale Young has been leasing it, so they approved the lease at $130 per acre, with 15.66 acres for a total of $2,035.

The board also approved hiring additional legal counsel for simple legal documents or other items that need immediate attention. Milem said it’s “fiscally smart and more accessible,” since the district pays the going rate for a Chicago law firm, which is good for property tax issues, but they could save money by hiring a local firm for other matters. The board also approved the second and final reading of press policies, approved the personnel list as presented, and approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the Erie Education Association. They also heard from two parents concerned about a high school English class assignment with a reading list that includes “social justice” themes and “hundreds of curse words.”

NEWS BRIEFS SVCC a Military Friendly School

Sauk Valley Community College announced it has earned the designation as a Military Friendly School for 2022-23. More than 1,800 schools participated in the survey, with 665 of them earning special awards.

Institutions earning the designation were evaluated using both public data sources and responses from a propri-

etary survey.

Final ratings were determined by combining the institution’s survey scores with the assessment of the institution’s ability to meet thresholds for student retention, graduation, job placement, loan default, loan payment and persistence (degree advancement or transfer) for all students and, specifically, for student veterans.

1972: American Legion Post 402 has mortgage burning ceremony March 21, 1962

Mr. and Mrs. Louis Buikema purchased the Harold Thompson building on 11th Avenue and plan to move in new equipment for their Speed Wash as soon as possible. The building is being occupied temporarily by Woods’ Drug Store while the drug store is being completely renovated. Both the Speed Wash and drug store were temporarily forced out of business by the disastrous fire that destroyed the Henry Jahn building and damaged nearby structures.

The mortgage of the American Legion Post 402 was burned at the annual Legion Birthday Supper. The supper celebrated the anniversary of the founding of the American Legion, which was formed in 1919. Taking part in the burning was James Damhoff Sr., commander and building committee chairman when construction started after the flood of 1965; Gerald Hook, present commander; and Mrs. Vernon Cady, president of the Legion Auxiliary.

March 24, 1982

Zinie Chen, a 14-year-old student in the River Bend schools, is the Whiteside County Spelling Bee champion.

Chen, a Fulton Junior High student, received a $75 savings bond as a prize.

Several officials of the U.S. Corps of Engineers met at the Fulton City Hall to make plans for meeting any flood threat that may develop in the next few weeks. Present predictions are for a flood crest of 20 feet in the Fulton area.

Public Works Director Tom Kamm emphasized the fact that predictions change from day to day and it is possible a higher crest may occur and is also possible that the 20-foot mark may not be reached.

Members of the band and ensembles from Albany took first place at a contest in Moline. Band members include Brenda Miller, Lisa Dornbush, Jon Voss, Jason Meier, Pat Dickherber, Lori Beswick, DeAnn Sterenberg, Becky Pessman, Annette Deetz, Becky

McDearmon, Tanya Damhoff, Paul Bielema and Cheryl Carpenter. Piano soloists and chorus members who took first place include Dianna Mattan, Kristin Hanson, Kris Toleski, Carrie Van Roekel, Maria Nowak, Sharon Kay, Penny Thomas, Becky Pessman, Christy Reinders and Tracy Vander Ploeg.

March 18, 1992

Don Temple, a member of the board of education for River Bend Community Unit District No. 2, presented the Golden Eagle Award to Carrie Roeder.

Roeder received the award for the many volunteer hours of work spent with the athletic department and guidance department.

The River Bend Community Unit School District’s Board of Education took the necessary action to cut nearly $60,000 from the 1992-93 budget. During the fiscal year in progress the district budgeted money expected from the state of Illinois, but due to the state money crunch, this year’s funds will reduce in excess of $300,000.

The first day of spring was winding down as this week’s issue of the Fulton Journal went to press. This day is a promise of blossoms, green grass and warm weather. This year we’ve thrown off the coats, turned off furnaces and some have even mowed the yard. It seems a bit unnatural to be wearing shorts and turning on the air conditioning in March.

Professional photographer Antony Boshier was in Fulton to photograph the Fulton area for an article for Farm Bureau magazine. A story will appear in the magazine sometime in 2013.

Boshier took pictures of the area all day, as well as sunset, before heading to his next location.

BY STEPHEN D. HARRISON, M.D. Many long-term conditions have been associated with the COVID-19 virus. It turns out that erectile dysfunction is just one more in that long line. There are many reasons for this including the inflammation that COVID-19 causes throughout the body.

Even after recovery, these effects may last months. Other studies show that COVID-19 may substantially lower testosterone levels. Meanwhile, researchers have been sounding the alarm for the attack on male testosterone in our society by manmade mechanisms. The fact that men have estrogen in their system is not news. However, the amount and type has been changing drastically.

Factors that contribute to elevated estrogen in men include obesity, zinc deficiency, poor liver function, alcohol and numerous prescription medicines for common diseases such as hypertension.

Some of the biggest concerns come from environmental estrogen in our food supply.

This may be in meat sources from hormone injections, force-feeding and pesticides.

Some references on the internet cite con-

cerns about commercially raised meat and farm-raised fish along with commercial dairy products of butter, cheese, ice cream and milk. Other common sources include soybeans, beer with hops, dates and licorice. Even coffee does not escape the list of concerns. The internet may provide a series of other foods, although be careful to use reliable sources for these lists.

Unfortunately, many other sources are common household products including plastics, which release chemicals if used in the microwave. Shampoos and detergents are on the list. Some studies show at least 70% of manufactured plastics have compounds with estrogen activity, which rises to 95% with activities such as microwaving and using the dishwasher. Hairsprays with phthalates may be another source.

As one can see from all of these challenges, avoiding estrogen production by men takes constant vigilance. Many advocate a more organic intake. Exercise and weight loss may help. Ultimately, massive pressure from the consumer may help stem the tide.

Houzenga earns State FFA degree Morrison senior Dakota Houzenga has earned her Illinois State FFA degree, which is the highest degree the state of Illinois can bestow upon a member. Houzenga is a four-year member of the Morrison FFA Chapter, with cattle and food service as her projects.

Riverdale takes three to IESA State Wrestling Riverdale Middle School took three boys to IESA State Wrestling in DeKalb on March 11 and 12 and saw some extremely good competition. benga went 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in Brock Mason with a game-tying RBI in the eighth, but the Rams answered with two runs in the top of the ninth to seal the extra-inning win at TBK Bank Sports Complex in Bettendorf, Iowa.

Drew Dykstra threw four scoreless innings for Fulton, allowing no runs on two hits, while striking out six and walking one. Ryan Eads tossed three scoreless innings, striking out one, walking three and surrendering no hits.

Dawson Peterson went 2-for-4 with two RBIs to lead Riverdale. Gage Hugart pitched one inning of scoreless relief to earn the win for the Rams.

Amboy 10, Morrison 4: Amboy defeated Morrison in the season opener for both teams Wednesday at City Park in Amboy.

Fulton 13, Annawan-Wethersfield 9: The Steamers took control of the nonconference home game with a seven-run third inning, then held off a late charge from the Titans.

Drew Dykstra had three hits, including a triple, to go with two RBIs and three runs scored for Fulton, which scored three times in the first inning, then tacked on three more runs in the fifth. Jacob Jones had two

hits and three RBIs, Brock Mason singled, homered, drove in two runs and scored twice, and Ryan Eads also had a pair of RBIs for the Steamers. Ian Wiebenga had two hits and drove in a run, and Ethan Price added an RBI as 10 Steamers scored runs.

Mason started on the mound and got the win, allowing three runs (two earned) and four hits in four innings, striking out eight and walking one.

Softball

Riverdale 14, Fulton 1: Brooklyn Brennan went 2-for-3 at the plate and scored the Steamers’ lone run on a first-inning error, but the Rams scored seven runs over the next four innings and cruised to a five-inning victory at TBK Bank Sports Complex in Bettendorf, Iowa.

Madyson Luskey went 2-for-2 for Fulton. Brennan pitched three innings, allowing eight hits, five runs (four earned) and no walks while tossing three strikeouts. She threw 13 first-pitch strikes.

Morrison 9, Amboy 1: Marissa Folkers tossed a three-hitter to lead the Fillies to victory in their season opener on the road.

Folkers struck out three and walked one. She got plenty of support from the offense, which scored five runs in the third and three in the fourth. Bella

Duncan had three hits for Morrison.

Annawan 11, Fulton 0, 5 inn.: Annawan scored six first-inning runs and capitalized on nine Fulton errors to win at Drive’s Park.

Madyson Luskey and Amy Hughes each went 1-for-2 to lead the Steamers at the plate.

Brooklyn Brennan pitched a complete game for Fulton, allowing five earned runs, while striking out four and walking two.

Riverdale 13, West Carroll 1, 6 inn.: The Rams scored seven runs in the fourth inning and five in the sixth to defeat the Thunder in Thomson.

Kayleigh Hartson struck out seven and walked one in four innings for Riverdale, allowing one run and two hits. She also hit a two-run home run.

Breckin DeLaRosa added an RBI double and a three-run homer for the Rams. Olivia Mabeus and Taylor Kohrt both had two-run singles in the sixth inning. Mabeus finished with three hits.

Wrestling

Three Rivers names all-conference team: Eight local wrestlers earned spots on the Three Rivers all-conference first team, with four more on the second team and six earning honorable mention honors.

Newman had three first-teamers in

sophomores Brady Grennan (120 pounds) and Carter Rude (126) and senior Will Rude (138). Erie-Prophetstown had four wrestlers named to the first team in freshman Wyatt Goossens (113), junior Jase Grunder (145) and seniors Andrew Bomlney (195) and Elijah Friedrichsen (285). Morrison senior Kayden White (182) also was a first-team pick.

Newman had three second-teamers in freshmen Briar Ivey (113) and Daniel Kelly (132) and senior Mason Glaudel (152). Morrison senior Nate Schaefer (220) also was named to the second team.

The Church of the Cross will have its annual Ham Ball Supper from 4 to 7 p.m.

Thursday, April 7, at the church, 22621 Routes 2 and 92, Port Byron.

The menu includes ham balls, creamy herb mashed potatoes, green beans, coleslaw, roll, dessert and drinks. The cost is $11 for adults and $6 for children 10 and younger. Carryouts will be available or preorder to pick up a meal at the door. Also available will be frozen 5x7 containers of chicken casserole, spaghetti casserole, ham balls (6), and cheese potatoes at $7 each.

NOTICE VILLAGE OF ERIE TAX INCREMENT FINANCING REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT AREA REGISTRATION FOR INTERESTED PARTIES REGISTRY Pursuant to Section 5/11-74.4-4.2 of the Tax Increment Allocation Redevelopment Act, 65 ILCS 5/11-74.4-1, et seq., hereinafter referred to as the "Act" the Village of Erie, Illinois hereinafter referred to as the "Village", is required to establish an interested parties registry, hereinafter referred to as the "Registry" or "Registries", for each Tax Increment Financing hereinafter referred to as the "TIF", redevelopment project area created pursuant to the Act, hereinafter referred to as the "Redevelopment Project Area", whether existing as of the date of this Notice or hereafter established. On March 8, 2022, the Village adopted Ordinance 766 authorizing the establishment of Registries by the Village Clerk hereinafter referred to as the "Clerk" and adopting registration rules for such Registries.

The purpose of this Notice is to inform interested parties of the Registries and registration rules for the Registries and to invite Interested Parties (as defined below) to register in the Registry for any Redevelopment Project Area.

Any organization active within the Village and any resident of the Village, hereinafter referred to as an "Interested Party", are entitled to register in the Registry for any Redevelopment Project Area. Organizations include, but are not limited to, businesses, business organizations, civic groups, not-for-profit corporations and community organizations.

An organization seeking to register as an Interested Party with respect to a Redevelopment Project Area must also complete and submit a registration form to the Clerk. An individual seeking to register as an Interested Party must also submit a copy of a current driver's license, lease, voter registration card, utility bill, financial statement or such other evidence as may be acceptable to the Clerk to establish the individual's current Village residency.

Interested Party Registries are being established for the following TIF Redevelopment Project Area, which has either been adopted by the Village or the establishment of which the Village is considering: • Erie TIF Redevelopment Project Area All individuals and organizations whose registration form and supporting documentation comply with the registration rules and who submit such documentation, either in person to 740 Main Street, Erie, IL 61250 or by mail to the Village Clerk at the same address, will be registered in the applicable Registry within ten (10) business days of the Clerk's receipt of all such documents. The Clerk will provide written notice to the registrant confirming such registration. Upon registration, Interested Parties will be entitled to receive all notices and documents required to be delivered under the Act with respect to the applicable Redevelopment Project Area. If the Clerk determines that a registrant's registration form and/or supporting documentation is incomplete or does not comply with the registration rules adopted by the Village, the Clerk will give written notice to the registrant specifying the defects. The registrant will be entitled to correct any defects and resubmit a new registration form and supporting documentation. An Interested Party's registration will remain effective for a period of three years. Rules for the renewal or amendment of an Interested Party's registration are included with the registration form that may be obtained as described herein.

Each Registry will be available for public inspection at the office of the Clerk during normal Village business hours. The Registry will include the name, address and telephone number of each Interested Person and, for organizations, the name and phone number of a designated contact person.

Interested Parties will be sent the following notices and any other notices required under the Act with respect to the applicable Redevelopment Project Area: (i) pursuant to Section 5/11-74.4-5(a) of the Act, notice of the availability of a proposed redevelopment plan and eligibility report, including how to obtain this information; such notice will be sent by mail within a reasonable period of time after the adoption of the ordinance fixing the public hearing for the proposed redevelopment plan; (ii) pursuant to Section 5/11-74.4-5(a) of the Act, notice of changes to proposed redevelopment plans that do not (1) add additional parcels of property to the proposed development project area, (2) substantially affect the general land uses proposed in the redevelopment plan, (3) substantially change the nature of or extend the life of the redevelopment project or (4) increase the number of low or very low income households to be displaced from the redevelopment project area, provided that, measured from the time of creation of the redevelopment project area, the total displacement of inhabited households will exceed 10; such notice will be sent by mail not later than 10 days following the Village's adoption by ordinance of such changes; (iii) pursuant to Section 5/11-74.4-5 ( c) of the Act, notice of amendments to previously approved redevelopment plans that do not (1) add additional parcels of property to the redevelopment project area, (2) substantially affect the general land uses in the redevelopment plan, (3) substantially change the nature of the redevelopment project, (4) increase the total estimated redevelopment project costs set out in the redevelopment plan by more than 5% after adjustment for inflation from the date the plan was adopted, (5) add additional redevelopment project costs to the itemized list of redevelopment project costs set out in the redevelopment plan, or (6) increase the number of low or very low income households to be displaced from the redevelopment project area, provided that measured from the time of creation of the redevelopment project area the total displacement of inhabited households will exceed 10; such notice will be sent by mail not later than 10 days following the Village's adoption by ordinance of such amendment; (iv) pursuant to Section 5/11-74.4-5 (d)(9) of the Act, for redevelopment plans or projects that would result in the displacement of residents from 10 or more inhabited residential units or that contain 75 or more inhabited residential units, notice of the availability of this information, including how to obtain the report, required by subsection (d) of Section 5/11-74.4-5 of the Act; such notice will be sent by mail within a reasonable period of time after completion of the certified audit report.
