PINE CREEK NEWS

BY KAREN MERLAK

The first two weeks of November have given us nearly every kind of weather. As they do every year, our farmers are facing challenges with the harvest. We know that God is faithful and will see us through every challenge we face. For this and every day, we thank Him.

Last week in church, we were greeted by Bob Toms. Pastor Suzanne Hall Stout led the service remembering All Saint’s Day. Suzanne shared a children’s message with Amelia Pfundstein, daughter of Katie and Cliff Pfundstein.

This week in church, we were greeted by Judy Riffle. Our special music was the song, “Burdens” from our guest, Doug Knapp. Pastor Suzanne gave the message for the morning. She gave a children’s message to our young friends, Amelia, Laura, and Harper.

On the first Tuesday of November, I attended the regular meeting of our PEO Chapter DW at the home of Maggie Henning. Linda Poole gave an informative program and helped by co-hosting the evening.

Also attending the meeting from Pine Creek were Lisa Coffman, Beverly Coffman, and Vicki Hay. While the group was small, we were excited to share in the company of our sisters and to hear all the ways PEO helps women with their education.

The first Saturday of the month is reserved for the men’s breakfast. This month was hosted by Don Hay. In attend a n c e w e r e J a m e s H o pk in s , P a s t o r Suzanne and her husband, Mark, John Engel, Ron Baker, and Dave Burright who shared in great food and great friendship.

The second Saturday is when the women meet for breakfast. This month was hosted by Sandra Ford. We enjoyed a beautiful b r e a k f a s t a n d w o n d e r f u l f e l l o w s h i p . Attending this month were Pastor Suzanne, S h e r y l H o p k i n s , V i c k i H a y , M a r t h a Johannsen, Elizabeth Elliot, and Marge Hammes.

The last two weekends have been filled with trips to meals out with friends and lots of craft shows. There are many talented crafters in our area. I certainly appreciate all the hard work that goes into making a craft display.

Living in this modern world brings many modern problems. A couple months ago, I purchased a new modem and router for my home. I knew the old one was near the end of its life. A few weeks ago, I decided it was time to change it.

I had a little trouble with the set-up and called the internet provider for help. After a couple hours of trying to get it to work, I gave up and went back to the old equipment. This weekend, my old modem quit working and I had to change it.

I took a deep breath and started working on setting and connecting the equipment myself. The first attempt failed. I decided to recheck the codes on the modem. I had a number wrong in the code. I made the correction and set everything up in a matter of minutes.

So many times I have tried to fix things on my own with nothing but frustration to show for my effort. Only when I turn to God for help does it start to work out. God’s help may fix the problem or it may fix me, but He is still the solution.

When we give up on fixing it ourselves, we can turn to God. He is here for all of us. We only need to call on Him. Day or night, He is ready to hear our prayers. It feels good to know that we are loved by God and He will help and guide us through any problem.

I hope to see you next week at our church in the country. We gladly welcome you and your family to a time of worship. Come sing and pray with us each week in person or Facebook live.
