will be held on Saturday, Aug. 4, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Polo Area Senior Center, 101 E. Mason St., in Polo. This year’s theme is “BEE-UTIFUL BLOOMS.” Gardeners are invited to “sign up” to display their plantings for their own enjoyment and for any onlookers out for a pleasant afternoon. The variety of categories people may enter include

“cut flowers,” “wildflower arrangements,” “outdoor container plantings”– “not house plants,” “floral bouquets,” “single specimen of flower” and a “horticulture category for vegetables.” There is a special class for children under 12 years of age to enter that includes some of the adult categories plus one called “ditch display” which means “any plant growing in a ditch” so probably NOT grown by choice. All children entering will receive a participation ribbon and

other recognition.

There is no entry fee for either adults or children exhibiting items and all may enter as many categories as they would like.

First-, second- and third-place ribbons will be awarded in each adult class plus a “People’s Choice” award will be given. Judging will be done between 10 a.m. and noon by three area judges experienced in gardening and/or working as professionals in the field.

Matt and Clint are getting settled in their new homes in North Carolina. They are on two different bases but only live about 10 minutes from each other. If I call or text one of them, the other is usually close by.

We are making our final plans to visit Minneapolis, Minnesota, where we will celebrate the marriage of my daughter Stephanie to João Halab. It has not been an easy task to arrange the travel, but we are all looking forward to being together again.

A couple of weeks ago, Suzanne approached me about sharing my thoughts on freedom. There were only a few guidelines, leaving the subject wide open. I had several ideas running through my head but did not settle on one until just a few days ago.

I talked about the different times in my life when I gained my freedom. I shared stories about when I earned my driver’s license and went off to college. Each time I experienced a new freedom, there were also expectations and responsibilities to maintain.

In the lineup of the service, Suzanne and James spoke before me. As I listened, I noticed something familiar in each of our words. Freedom does not mean we get to do whatever we want. Freedom comes with rules.

While I told a few lighthearted stories

about taking out my mom’s car and leaving for college for the first time, these freedoms came with very important rules. James shared his thoughts on our freedoms as a nation and how we are still required to be good citizens.

As a Christian, we have been given the ultimate freedom when Jesus died on the cross. We are free from the consequences of our own sins. Even with this new freedom, we are still expected to live with certain expectations.

We have been given the commandment to love one another. This statement is more than just being happy with everyone we meet. It goes much deeper. Offering kindness and forgiving wrongs are just the start.

Some days are easier than others.

Everyone will make mistakes along the way. The good news is that we always have Jesus. We are already loved even when we fall short of these expectations. With the love of Jesus, we can truly be free.

I hope to see you next week in our little church in the country. Come and join us for a time of worship. Our service is available on our Facebook page to watch anytime. We gladly welcome you.

This is a wonderful time to take a drive in the country. The fields are full and green. There are fragrant flowers in bloom.

These are the days when it is easy to appreciate the beautiful creation all around us.

This is His day, and for that, we continually rejoice.

This morning in church, we were greeted by Mark Stout. For the sermon, Pastor Suzanne Hall Stout asked James Hopkins and I to share our thoughts on freedom and faith. The three of us spoke at different times in the service.

Our pianist Beverly Kerns played several patriotic pieces before and after the service. Eric Ellingsen, son of James and Nancy Hopkins, was home for the holiday and sang “America, the Beautiful” for our special music.

James and Nancy Hopkins hosted their family for the holiday weekend. Their daughter, Edie Klein, her husband, Dave, and their daughter, Hanna, traveled home from Arizona. Hanna will be going into the fifth grade in a few weeks. We are so glad we get to see her grow.

Edie’s twin brother, Eric Ellingsen, and his husband, Andrew, were visiting from Iowa. Both Eric and Andrew are very talented singers and help enhance our congregational singing when they are with us.

azoellner@shawmedia.com Two mature trees on the north side of the old Ogle County Courthouse campus were removed Tuesday for safety reasons, according to a county official.

“They are a liability. They’re dying,” Ogle County Board Vice Chairperson Patrica Nordman said at the June 21 county board meeting. “Part of the stewardship that we’re going to be building upon, we’ll be trying to look at Illinois trees that are native to Illinois. We’ll be looking at putting new trees up.

“They also will be doing trimming of the canopies because we have quite a few dead areas up there also,” she added. “So just an FYI. We’re not trying to kill the trees. We just want to maintain safety.”

A crew from Timberman Tree Service in Rochelle cut down the trees Tuesday morning and ground their stumps.

Nordman posted this news release Tuesday: Ogle County Courthouse Lawn Tree Forestry, Oregon The beautiful courthouse located in Oregon, IL, needs attention on the north side. The two large trees located either side of the Veteran’s Memorial are very old. Those trees have served the county well but need to be removed for safety. The trees will be removed July 5, as well as additional canopy work will be done.

This fall watch for reforestation and planting of the Illinois State Tree the White Oak. Thank you for understanding and patience in advance.

Let Freedom Ring marks 59 years of family fun

azoellner@shawmedia.com Let Freedom Ring’s 59th year went well, despite a monsoon-like downpour on Ronald Reagan’s reappearance.

“It was a great turnout most of the weekend,” LFR Committee Chairperson Tiffany West said.

Let Freedom Ring is Mt. Morris’ annual Independence Day festival. This year’s event took place Wednesday, June 29, and Friday through Monday, July 1-4.

The Little Miss and Mister Firecracker contest drew six entrants, with the winners declared on June 29. John Murphy, 4, was crowned Little Mister, and Ahniya Wheeler, 5, earned the title of Little Miss.

More than 1,000 people attended the Friday night concert, West said. Saturday was a bit slower, but still good, she said.

Friday was the night LFR committee members were selling root beer floats, which ended up presenting an interesting challenge. Committee members ran out of root beer and ice cream a few times, forcing them to go on grocery runs.

“We served about 200 root beer floats that night,” West said.

Sunday drew the largest ever number of entries – 35 children – to the Kiddie Parade, and although a heavy rain on Monday chased away a few people following the Patriotic Program, they were able to start the Grand Parade only a few minutes late, she said.

“It looked like it was a great turnout for the Patriotic Program,” West said.

“The weather, I believe, did impact the bell ringing right after the Patriotic Program.” (Story on page 5) The downpour cleared up in time for organizers to make the call around 1:30 p.m. that the parade would start just after 2 p.m., she said.

“Once we made that call, everybody was great and joined in and got ready to do their part in the parade,” West said. “It worked out great. I do feel that we didn’t have as many turn out for the parade because of the weather. Normally, the streets are lined, and for the most part it was, but there were patches here and there where there weren’t people.”

That rain shower was the biggest challenge, she said.

On Monday evening, Jeff Warren was selected as the 50/50 raffle winner, and Dawn Hale’s ticket was picked, signaling she would be the one to set off the fireworks show.

July 4, 2023, lands on a Tuesday, which will present its own challenges, West said.

Still, she’s looking forward to it.

“I always look forward to the parade and fireworks,” West said. “Just everybody getting together and having a good time.”

On July 4, the Performing Arts Guild actor was former President Ronald Reagan.

“We are so honored today to have with us former President Ronald Reagan to celebrate our Fourth of July with us,” said Doug Wean, a U.S. Marine veteran who served in the Vietnam War and received two Purple Hearts and a Silver Star. “We invited him here today to talk about his 1963 dedication of our original Freedom Bell, which stands behind the Veterans Memorial Fountain.”

The Reagan reenactment took place in downtown Mt. Morris at the 100-year-old bandshell on the old college campus.

At the time Reagan dedicated the Illinois Freedom Bell in Mt. Morris in 1963, he had not yet been elected as governor of California or as president of the United States. He was an actor in Hollywood.

It was cold that day, Tremble said.

Learn about the Canada Settlement on July 13 N

orthwest of Polo is an old country school called the Canada Settlement School.

It was started soon after 1839 and was a flourishing school.

They had excellent teachers and around 1900 they built a new school for $1,200. It was a model country school, large, and attractive.

Why was it called the Canada Settlement School? Because a group from Canada who came in 1839 started the school for their children.

Following the Canadian Rebellion, 26 people came from Canada to find a new country and they came to this area. In Canada, two men had already been executed and 885 men spent months in jail following the uprising.

One of those men happened to be William Poole. Even though the men were vindicated, life was not easy in Canada.

These men had been simple people with jobs such as farmers, carpenters and maybe blacksmiths. They were taken advantage of by the government.

Therefore an uprising occurred. When Queen Victoria looked into the matter, she found that the people were justified in being upset. So all those in prison were released but two already had gone to the gallows.

Life still was not easy and they were looked upon as rebels even though all they wanted was British Liberty. They found their homes looted and burned.

They were called the Canada Settlement.

David Poole will tell us all about what his great-great-great grandfather went through as he sat in prison not knowing whether he would live or die.

How did they pass the time of day? You will be surprised at what they made.

Our next meeting will be Wednesday, July 13, back at the museum at 7 p.m. Poole will be our program presenter and he will show us what his great-great-great grandfather made in prison that today is very valuable.

Also come and see the display board that is now finished on St. Mark’s Lutheran Church before it goes to the Aplington House and is hooked into the wall.

I also want to thank all who sent me beautiful cards for my 90th birthday.

Krista comes down and together we take many of those cards that have been sent through the years and turn them into cards that people can again send.

I enjoyed seeing all the people who came to my party. Thank you for coming.

I still do not know who brought me the delicious jar of strawberry preserves but I love it on my toast for breakfast. It was a great day for our family.

Anna McCabe Sheets helped an immigrant family

hortly after retiring as a Methodist minister in Chicago, Rev. Frank Sheets moved with his wife, Anna McCabe, to a house adjoining the property of his father, the late Col. Benjamin F. Sheets.

After Frank died July 8, 1955, Anna continued to live in this house and did substitute teaching.

(The following is from an article I wrote in 2011.)

Mart Nurmet gave the Historical Society a book titled “How to Become an American Citizen. He related that Anna taught his family English and used this book for all the information needed to become an American citizen in Anna’s home located at 102 S. Seventh St. This manual included information on our system of government and our history. It included “The Star Spangled Banner,” pledge of allegiance, our government and justice system, Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, the story of the Liberty Bell, “America The Beautiful” and how to become an American citizen.

This booklet also contained information about the states and their capitals. It contained a list of U.S. Presidents and their terms of office.

There also were a series of questions about state and city matters.

It was often a very difficult task to come to America, find housing to live in and locate a job to support the family. In addition many learned English and spent a lot of time preparing themselves to become an American citizen.

Several people in Oregon helped the Nurmets.

The Nurmets traveled across the Atlantic on a ship named General Howse. The trip lasted

10 days. It was an old Pacific troop ship with no seats. After arriving in America, they were put on a train to their destination, Oregon.

Pastor Paul Bollman and Frank Fischer, their sponsors, were there to greet them.

Anna McCabe gave her time preparing them for citizenship.

Anna and her husband, Frank, enjoyed reading and travel. They visited Europe together and spent considerable time in England.

Anna wrote poetry. We have one of her poems titled “Christmas Greetings from a Small Town.” I didn’t know where she is buried. I spent considerable time looking with no luck. Finally I found in her obit that she was cremated.

It was especially so for Reagan, who lived in southern California and wasn’t acclimated to the Midwest weather.

“So I borrowed a coat from somebody in the audience and wore that coat the entire day,” he said. “Charlie Finch, and I understand he was the undertaker in town. The coat’s right here. They kept it all these years – and it’s held up a lot better than most of us since 1963, just so you know.”

The weather during Tremble’s noontime appearance as Reagan wasn’t much better as it began downpouring shortly after he arrived in a motorcade escorted by Mt. Morris police and actors portraying secret service agents.

“This is like coming home,” Tremble said as he and Wean set off on a trip down memory lane. “I’ve got to tell you, back in the early 1980s, I met Doug at Hines Veterans Hospital where he worked and so did Nancy’s dad.”

Nancy Reagan’s stepfather, Dr. Loyal Davis, was the director of neurosurgery at Edward Hines Jr. Veterans Administration Hospital, Tremble said. Wean happened to work in that department.

“President Reagan, I will never forget. I was leaving work one day and there you and Nancy were, standing in front of an elevator,” Wean recalled. “I didn’t know what to call you, so I just came over and said, ‘Mr. Reagan,’ and you shook my hand. The other thing I told you is that I lived out where you were born and raised.”

Tremble recounted more of his and Wean’s past interaction. Among the memories was Reagan’s time as a lifeguard at the Rock River swimming area on Lowell Park Road.

Reagan had to assist teenagers in the water, and even scold some of the boys who got too “into some of their antics,” Tremble said. Wean’s father was one of the boys Reagan once scolded.

“So if any of you remember that, that’s just one of the reasons I consider this coming home,” he said. “Another reason is, after I graduated, I went to Eureka College and Eureka College played football against the Mt. Morris College right here on this campus. I can’t tell you where the football field was, I don’t remember, and I don’t remember the score either – maybe that’s a good thing, I’m not sure.”

Tremble concluded by reading the speech Reagan gave in 1963, after which, the Illinois Freedom Bell – located just next to the bandshell – was rung.

“Fifty-nine years ago, in February of 1963, a resolution was proposed in Congress by Connecticut Sen. Abraham Ribicoff that called for the ringing of bells nationwide at 2 p.m. every Fourth of July,” Village President Phil Labash said.

The first ringing of the Illinois Freedom Bell took place on July 4, 1963, and has continued ever since, he said.

River’s Edge Market going strong along riverfront The River’s Edge Farmers Market is off to a great start this season with what organizers call “an awesome lineup of vendors and entertainment.”

And July shows no signs of slowing down.

When Tim Valdivia decided to display his America flag for the Fourth of July weekend he did it in a very big way.

But then, Valdivia’s flag is big in its own way.

“My dad is a veteran and he bought this flag when a store closed in Rockford a few years ago,” he said.

The flag, measuring a whopping 18 feet by 27 feet, was displayed along the north side of Valdivia’s home at 408 S. Fourth St. (Illinois 2) in Oregon, just in time for July 4.

“I’ve had this flag for about five years,” he said. “I’ve displayed it at my home before, but this is the first time here since I started living here.”

Valdivia said he flies the flag in honor of his father, a Navy veteran who lives in Rockford.

“He wants it put up every year. It brings him to tears. It means a lot to him,” he said.

Valdivia took the flag down at midnight July 3.

Golf carts and more cruise streets of Grand Detour

ehinton@oglecountynews.com What does a Red, Great White and Blue Shark, a three-wheeled Harley Davidson and a 20-year-old parrot named June all have in common?

Easy … the 2022 Grand Detour Golf Cart Parade.

All three took part in the village’s unorthodox parade July 3 as part of the Fourth of July weekend.

“It’s all a lot of fun,” said Jim Ross, organizer of the event as he strolled by the 61 entries before the start of the evening’s ride. “It’s interesting to see all the decorations and the ideas people come up with.”

Mark and Linda Downey’s Red, Great White and Blue Shark entry filled that bill perfectly, all thanks to a freezer shipping box and some big googly eyes from Amazon.

“We made the shark out of a freezer box from Knie’s,” Mark said. “It took about a day to make, but all I had to do was then paint it.”

Linda said her search for this year’s entry started on the internet. “I saw Red, Great White and Blue Shark on the internet and I thought we could do that,” she said. “Each year we try and do something different. Mark drew the eyes on, but I knew we needed something with more pop, so we found them on Amazon and got them here on time with two-day shipping.”

The front of the cart was the shark’s mouth and a large fin donned the roof.

As an added perk, Mark and Linda’s 8-year-old granddaughter Campbell rode along to hand out little shark hats and packets of Goldfish crackers along the parade route.

June, a yellow-naped Amazon parrot, owned by Jared Tate, sat on the bottom of his golf cart’s windshield rail awaiting the trek around the village.

“She’s 20 years old. We had Johnny, too, for June and Johnny Cash, but he passed away,” Tate said.

In the homemade category, the Hughes and Lowes boys arrived in a Can Am ATV that had two passengers in tow in a 1968 Arctic Cat Cutter – a sled normally pulled by a snowmobile.

“It’s like a sleigh, but we put a wheel dolly under it and made this,” said Weston Hughes Jr., pointing to the add-on. “We did it today. It took about an hour.”

In the more jazzy category was Mark and Deb Gale’s 1970s-era sandal/ dune buggy. Painted orange and powered by a VW engine, the loud street-legal cruiser was a crowd favorite.

And in the more traditional lane, Mark and Sherri Shaulis’ 1969 Harley Davidson golf cart filled the bill.

going to get one,” Mark said. “I found this three-wheeled Harley golf cart so I called him and said, ‘Hey, I finally got my Harley.’ He wanted to know what color and I told him Harley orange and then he wanted to know the year and I told him 1969. I had some fun with him for awhile.”

This year’s grand marshal of the parade was 93-year-old Beulah Schumacher, a 59-year resident of Grand Detour. She rode in the back seat of one of the gold carts and tossed candy to kids along the parade route.

When asked what she thought about the parade she quipped: “I think its kinda silly.”

Mike was born on December 27, 1942 in Rockford, IL, the son of James & Pauline (Biavati) Ghibellini. When Mike was in 6th grade, he moved to Mark, IL with his mother.

He attended Hopkins High School in Granville, IL, where he was an outstanding baseball and basketball player. At 14 years old, he met the love of his life. He married Sharice Williams onJuly 13, 1963 in the First Lutheran Church, Granville, IL, and she preceded him in death on March 1. 2022.

Born: May 6, 1940 in Hinsdale, IL Died: July 3, 2022 in Sterling, IL Marjorie A. Engel, 82, of Polo, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 3, 2022, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.

Marjorie was born May 6, 1940, in Hinsdale, IL, the daughter of George Engel and Ruth (Paul) Trei. On May 31, 1963 in Forreston, IL, she married John Engel. She worked as a Teachers Aid for Mt. Morris School District for years then went to work for Kable News until she retired in 2010.

After high school, he started working at BF Goodrich Chemical Plant in Henry, IL. After a very bad fire at the plant, Mike decided to move to Mt. Morris, IL and start over. He owned and operated the Brass Rail with his father and brother Jim for about 20 years. Mike also worked at Kable Printing Company as a photoengraver. He was a proud union member who walked the picket line for 7 years during the strike, and he retired from Quebecor Printing in 2001.

Mike and Shari enjoyed meeting friends to go dancing, gambling at the boat, and taking trips to share moments with people they cared about. Something Mike really enjoyed was cooking - he watched his mother for years and he was great at it also. He passed many family secrets on to his son and grandchildren. He was an avid golfer, who enjoyed playing at Sunset Golf Club more than anywhere. Mike spent a lot of time at the Pepper Mill, where he always enjoyed a cup of coffee with friends, buying rounds of an Church in Polo. She enjoyed sitting and doing a cryptogram, playing bingo, reading and going bowling with friends. Marjorie would often sit crocheting blankets for her family or listen to the Statler Brothers music.

Survivors include husband John Engel; daughters Cynthia Schryver of Polo, Andrea (Tom) Kay of Independence, MO and Paula (Lance) Malburg of Highlands Ranch, CO; grandchildren Chelsea Schryver, Greg and Payton Malburg.

She was preceded in death by infant sister Manon Barbara Trei and sister Marilyn Stukenberg; brothers George and Kenneth Engel .

Honoring Marjorie’s wishes cremation rites have been accorded.

The Ogle County Fair Board is seeking contestants for its 2022 Queen Pageant.

The pageant includes four divisions: Little Miss & Mr., Junior Miss, Young Miss and Miss Ogle County Fair. It will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 3, opening night of the fair, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Voter turnout was light for June 28 primary election

azoellner@shawmedia.com Voting was typically light in Ogle County with few contested contests on the June 28 ballot.

A total of 8,074 ballots were cast in Ogle County, which has 31,659 registered voters, according to the State Board of Elections’ website. That puts the turnout at 25.5%.

In the 2018 primary, turnout was 20.4% (8,468 ballots cast), and in the 2020 primary, it was 30.8% (10,084 ballots cast).

“The last time I worked with the Biden/Trump election and it was like, ‘Whoa!’ over the top,” said Jan Martin, an election judge in Mt. Morris on Tuesday. “There was record turnout.

So anything else is going to seem less.”

“It’s been steady, but nothing like the presidential election,” Bucher said around 11:40 a.m. Tuesday. “November will be a lot busier.”

New voting equipment made an impressive premiere and smoothed the process, Cook said.

Cook said more than 600 voters cast early ballots prior to Tuesday’s election and 280 were vote-by-mail ballots.

The State Board of Elections’ website reported 781 early ballots were cast in Ogle County.

“The election workers are all pleasant and seem to know their job,” Mt. Morris voter Deb Beard said. “I think it’s important for us to vote if we want to get those people in there that we want.”

Much of the Health Department’s attention recently has been directed to coping with the COVID-19 epidemic, but the Ogle County Health Department provides many other services.

In their presentation, Auman and Torres explained the services that are available to the people of Ogle County.

Meat Raffle On June 23, the Oregon Lions held their annual meat raffle and drew the tickets for the 85 winners. The prizes included five $50 gift certificates, 20 turkeys, 20 hams, 20 steak packages and 20 pork chop packages.

Oregon Lions wish to thank everyone who purchased a ticket and supported Lions’ charities.

Pamela (Panjee) Plachno, the daughter of Larry and Nancy Plachno in Polo, was recently awarded a doctorate degree in physical therapy.

Plachno attended schools in Polo including Centennial, Aplington Middle School and Polo Community High School.

Pamela (Panjee) After graduating from Plachno Polo schools in 2011, Plachno attended San Pedro College in Davao City in the Philippines. While there she completed four years of studies and a year of internship in 2016 for a degree in physical therapy.

She was honored with the Leadership Award, Department Service Award and the Clinical/Practicum Efficiency Award.

After returning to northwestern Illinois, she has been employed as a physical therapist by Athletico while continuing her advanced studies.

She was awarded her doctorate of physical therapy from the Evidence in Motion Institutes of Health Professionals at the end of April.

Kishwaukee College has announced the graduates for the Spring 2022 semester.

Graduation honors are divided into three categories based on final cumulative grade-point average on a 4.0 scale: summa cum laude indicates a cumulative GPA between 3.75-4.0; magna cum laude indicates a cumulative GPA between

3.5-3.749; and cum laude indicates a cumulative GPA between 3.25-3.499.

Students who fulfill requirements for a Certificate and have a final cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher are awarded a Certificate with Distinction. Students who are members of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society are recognized as PTK. The graduate total for the semester is 300 students who completed a total of 337 degrees and certificates for Spring 2022.

June 27 Randy D. Lemay, 56, of Creston, was arrested at 6:14 a.m. for driving while license revoked. Lemay was also charged with improper cannabis container as a driver, obstructing justice, possession of drug paraphernalia, and issued citations for operating a vehicle with an expired registration, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, Lemay was transported to the Ogle County Jail. These violations occurred in the 200 block of S. 4th Street.

June 28 At 7:39 a.m., police took a report of hit and run that had occurred in the 300 block of S. 2nd Street at some time between 9:30 p.m. on June 27 to 7:39 a.m. on June 28. A 2005 Nissan was struck on the driver side of the vehicle, causing damage. If anyone has any information, please contact the Oregon Police Department at 815-732-2162.

June 29 Scott C. Bares, 48, of Lanark, was issued a citation at 9:35 a.m. for operating a vehicle when registration is suspended.

This violation occurred in the 200 block of W. Washington Street.

on an outstanding Lee County warrant for failure to appear.

Heenan was transported to the Ogle County Jail.

July 2 At 1:12 p.m., police responded to a two-vehicle traffic crash that occurred in the Riverside Liquors parking lot located at 200 E. Washington Street involving a 2010 Ford driven by Mark H. Heynssens, 68, of Oregon, and a 2019 Honda driven

by Savanna M. Harper, 21, of Byron. No citations were issued.

Damian Jacobson, 22, of Oregon, was arrested at 9:20 p.m. on an outstanding Lee County warrant for failure to appear.

Jacobson was transported to the Ogle County Jail.

June 30 At 9:45 a.m., police investigated a two-vehicle traffic crash that occurred in the 700 block of S. 6th Street involving a 1999 Lexus driven by Karen M. Novak, 82, of Oregon, and a 2005 Chevrolet driven by Kurtis R. Wilson, 52, of Oregon. No citations were issued.

July 1 Erick Perez-Yescas, 24, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was arrested at 12:59 a.m. for no valid driver’s license. A passenger in the vehicle, Raul, Perez-Yescas, 22, of Milwaukee, was also arrested for unlawful use of a weapon. Both Erick and Raul Perez-Yescas were transported to the Ogle County Jail. These violations occurred in the 500 block of S. 4th Street.

July 3 Dylan J. Daub, 28, of Rockford, was arrested at 12:10 p.m. for driving while under the influence of alcohol. Daub was also issued citations for failure to signal, improper lane usage, operating a vehicle with an expired registration, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, illegal transportation of alcohol as a driver, and driving while under the influence of alcohol with blood-alcohol content greater than .08%. Daub was transported to the Ogle County Jail. These violations occurred in the 400 block of N. 4th Street.

Four parking citations and 14 verbal warnings issued June 27 through July 3.

ILLINOIS STATE POLICE June 27 Kayla M. Martin, 30, of Davis Junction, was stopped at 8:03 p.m. for failure to wear seat belt on Illinois Route 38 and Interstate 88 in Ogle County.

Police discovered Martin was wanted on an Ogle County warrant for larceny.

Martin also was charged with driving while license suspended, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and failure to wear seat belt.

Martin posted 10% of the $5,000 bond and was

released.

July 2 Parnuwat Yindeeroop, 51, of Dixon, was stopped at 11:54 p.m. for violation of minimum speed restrictions on Illinois Route 2 at Palmyra Road in Lee County.

Yindeeroop was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol and violation of classification. Yindeeroop posted a driver’s license and was released on an I-bond.

June 27 Ilder Castillo, 41, of Hanover Park, was arrested for driving while license suspended after a traffic stop on Interstate 39 mile marker 108 northbound at approximately 8:57 p.m. Castillow was released on an I-Bond on scene.

June 28 Alexandria Hodge, 30, of Rockford, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance (crack/cocaine), possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while license revoked and improper container of cannabis/ driver after a traffic stop in the 1000 block of West Mud Creek Road at approximately 8:33 p.m. Hodge also was cited for illegal window tint and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. Hodge was transported to the Ogle County Jail and held in lieu of bond.

Beverly Kirksy, 43, of Rochelle, was arrested for driving with no license after a traffic stop on Illinois Route 38 and Dement Road at approximately 8:57 p.m. for an inoperable registration light and suspended registration. Kirksy was released on an I-Bond and given a future court date.

James Waterman, 23, of Champaign, was arrested for driving while under the influence after a traffic stop on Interstate 39 mile marker 100 at 11:10 p.m. Waterman also was cited for unlawful transportation of alcohol and improper lane usage. Waterman was transported to the Ogle County Jail and later released on an I-Bond with a future court date.

June 29 Keandre Euell, 27, of Rock Falls, was arrested for driving while license revoked and unlawful possession of medical cannabis after a traffic stop near the intersection of Freeport and Buffalo roads at approximately 2:37 p.m. He also was cited for illegal window tint. Euell was transported to the

stop in the 7400 block of Illinois Route 26 at approximately 7:39 p.m. He also was given a written warning for illegal window tint.

Monroe was taken into custody and transported to the Ogle County Jail and held in lieu of bond.

Williams was released on an I-Bond at the scene and given a return court date.

July 1 Randi M. Suter, 34, of Oregon, was arrested for unlawful possession of cannabis (improper container/driver) after a traffic stop at Illinois Route 74 and Limekiln Road at approximately 6:37 p.m. Suter also was cited for operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

Suter was taken into custody and released on the scene on an I-Bond with a return court date set.

Shelby Gasior, 29, of Davis Junction, was arrested for driving while license suspended after a traffic stop on Illinois Route 251 near Illinois Route 72 at approximately 9:31 p.m.

July 2 Sonya L. Cherry, 51, of Davis Junction, was arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol after a traffic stop in the 1300 block of East Flagg Road at 12:32 a.m. Cherry also was cited for failure to obey a stop sign, failure to stop at an intersection and driving on the shoulder. Cherry was transported to the Ogle County Jail and held in lieu of bond.

David W. Bellows, 57, of Sterling, was arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol after a traffic stop at Pilgrim and Sugar Grove roads at approximately 1:41 a.m.

He also was cited for speeding 74 mph in a 55 mph speed zone. Bellows was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Ogle County Jail where he was held in lieu of bond.

Cyrus M. Willard, 21, of Rockford, was arrested for driving while license suspended after a traffic stop in the 9000 block of North Mulford Road at approximately 12:38 p.m.

Willard also was cited for speeding. Willard was released from the scene on an I-Bond and given a return court date.

At 3:22 p.m., deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash in the 13000 block of Illinois Route 72. After an investigation, William Holden, of Davis Junction, was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and given a future court date.

Holden was transported to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Christopher C. Forman, 50, of Stillman Valley, was arrested for aggravated domestic battery after deputies responded to the 8000 block of East Cardinal Lane at 6:08 p.m. for a reported domestic battery.

Forman was transported to the Ogle County Jail and held pending a court appearance.

July 4 Anthony Marco, 40, of Aurora, was arrested at 11:30 p.m. for driving while license revoked following a traffic stop in the 14,000 block of E. Route 64. Marco was transported to the Ogle County Jail where he is being held in lieu of bond.

Derius Needham, 30, of Dekalb, was arrested at 1:39 p.m. for driving while license suspended following a traffic stop on I-39 at the mile marker 99 exit. Needham was released on an I-Bond at the scene and given a future court date.

Kamaria Tusa, 40, of Kansas City, Missouri, was arrested at 8:23 p.m. for driving while license suspended following a traffic stop on I-39 near mile marker 112 northbound. Tusa was also cited for improper lane usage and no valid registration. Tusa was released on a signature I-Bond with a return court date.

Quenet Sabillon, 21 of Rockford, was arrested at 8:11 p.m. for no valid driver’s license following a traffic stop in the 9000 block of North Illinois Rt 2. Sabillon was also cited for loud exhaust and improper lane usage. Sabillon was released on bond and will appear in court at a later date.
