Auman: County’s COVID-19 rates ‘low’ Board members approve additional ARPA expenditures

azoellner@shawmedia.com Ogle County’s COVID-19 rates currently are considered “low,” Public Health Administrator Kyle Auman told county board members Tuesday.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention changed their data and statistics reporting in the last few weeks, Auman said. The new data sets looked at are new hospital admissions, current vaccination, cases per 100,000 people and number of deaths.

“Luckily, we’re seeing those numbers

continue to taper off,” he said.

There are about five cases of COVID-19 coming into the county each day, Auman said. As of March 15, the county’s positivity rate was 2.14%, “which is the lowest we’ve seen in quite some time.”

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported that, as of March 5, there are 67 cases per 100,000 people. The rate of cases is calculated by taking a county’s number of cases over the previous seven days, dividing that by the county’s population and multiplying the result by 100,000, according to the IDPH. About 60.18% of Ogle County’s population is vaccinated, Auman said. A total of 71,821 initial vaccination doses have been administered, not including an additional 15,200 booster doses.

“Through the course of the pandemic, the Ogle County Health Department has

addressed 13,897 cases and there have been a total of 128 deaths in the county,” he said.

“So hopefully we’ll keep these levels where they are and it’s going to continue to taper off and we’ll be able to get back to more routine business at the health department, which we’re really looking forward to.”

Also Tuesday, county board members approved allocating $53,740 of American Rescue Plan Act funds to two departments.

We enjoyed a beautiful day full of sunshine and warmer temperatures. Even losing an hour of sleep is made better when the sun is shining all afternoon. Soon, His earth will be alive with color for another season. For the many ways God blesses us, we are thankful.

This morning in church, we were greeted by James and Nancy Hopkins. Pastor Suzanne Hall-Stout gave the message for the second Sunday in Lent. Before the service, she led a bible study.

During the service, Suzanne gave a children’s message for the great-grandchildren of Sandra Ford. Sandra’s family was visiting to celebrate her birthday. After church, her family provided cake for the celebration.

Visiting from Wheaton was Sandra’s daughter, Kim Austin, her husband, Ron, and their children Luke and Leah. Their daughter, Claire, joined the family in the afternoon. Driving up from Bloomington was Sandra’s daughter, Crystal Patterson, her husband, Jack, their children and their

spouses and grandchildren.

After church, the families enjoyed dinner at a local restaurant and time together in the afternoon. It was a great day to be together and especially nice to celebrate a very dear friend.

This afternoon, I met a friend in Polo for lunch. Brooke and I met at NIU when I started school. She teaches at an elementary school in Dixon so we always have lots of ideas to share. We had a much needed visit over a long lunch.

Later in the afternoon, I went over to the White Pines Roller Rink to meet a group of friends from work. Current and former employees from our department, along with their families, skated and visited through the afternoon.

On Saturday night, I went to the Polo High School musical presentation of “Disney’s Aladdin Jr.” My nephew, Garrett Bittinger, had returned for a small role in the production. They gave two great performances to large crowds. Congratulations to the students and staff.

Our excitement for robin sightings grows at this time of year since we know it means that spring is on its way. Years ago, we removed a robin’s nest from my eaves spout. I started to wonder where this robin would make its home.

This robin is in good hands. God takes care of His creation. We know God provides food for the birds and beautiful colors for the flowers. God loves us more than birds and flowers, so we know He will take care of us.

Matthew T. Plote, of Malta, has been charged in the deaths of EMT and her unborn child

azoellner@shawmedia.com OREGON – An arrest and criminal charges against a Malta man for the 2020 killings of Karl Lamesch’s sister and unborn nephew aren’t enough to bring him closure.

“You get these ideas of what it should feel like and what it would be like to finally have some sort of closure,” Karl Lamesch said in a phone interview March 10. “To me, I’m not there yet. I’ll be happier once he’s Matthew T. Plote fully sentenced and convicted. I’m glad he’s in custody, but to me, they’re not there yet.”

Matthew T. Plote, 34, of Malta is charged with the strangling of 27-yearold Melissa Lamesch of Mt. Morris and setting fire to her house to conceal the death, according to the arrest warrant.

The killings and fire occurred Nov. 25, 2020.

Lamesch’s baby – whose nickname was to be Little Bear – was due Nov. 27, Karl Lamesch said. She had been keep-

ing the baby’s name a secret, sharing only the nickname, he said.

“We found out the name going through her phone,” Karl Lamesch said. “It was going to be Barrett KarlRoy Lamesch.”

Plote faces four counts of first-degree murder, three of intentional homicide of an unborn child and one each of residential arson, aggravated

domestic battery and concealment of a homicidal death.

About 4:30 p.m. Nov. 25, 2020, firefighters responded to 206 S. Hannah Ave., in Mt. Morris, where they encountered heavy smoke and blaring smoke detectors, Mt. Morris Fire Chief Rob Hough IV said in a previous interview.

COUNTY NEWS Rochelle man charged with aggravated battery of baby A Rochelle man has been arrested and charged with the aggravated battery of a 3-month old child.

Luis Vasquez Jr., 21, of Rochelle, was arrested March 8 following an investigation that stemmed from a Feb. 26 report of possible child abuse.

About 12:31 a.m. Feb. 26, Ogle County deputies

responded to Rochelle Community Hospital for a report of child abuse, the Ogle County Sheriff’s Department posted on its website.

“During the investigation, deputies learned a 3-month-old child suffered multiple broken bones,” the post said. “Vasquez was transported to Ogle County Jail and held in lieu of bond. He appeared before Judge John Redington on March 9 and was released on a recognizance bond.”

According to court documents, Vasquez is charged with four felony counts including Class X aggravated battery and Class 2 aggravated domestic battery.

Those documents say the child’s ribs were fractured when “the defendant applied pressure” to the baby’s midsection. It says he also bent the arm of the baby, causing it to fracture.

Vasquez’s next court date is set for March 16 at 10 a.m.

During a March 9 news conference announcing the arrest, Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle thanked everyone involved in the investigation, including Lamesch’s family.

“I would be remiss if I didn’t say ‘thank you’ to the Lamesch family,” he said. “Obviously this has been a long investigation. The fire occurred in November of 2020 and today we bring you this information. Again, that to me is something I really want to focus on – the family and being able to bring them closure today after a very lengthy investigation.”

Each family member has had to deal with their grief in their own way and in their own time, Karl Lamesch said. The process has been longer for some than others, he said.

Melissa Lamesch graduated from Oregon High School in 2011, according to her obituary. There, she was a member of the student council, color guard and bowling team. Outside school, Melissa Lamesch was part of Girl Scout Troop 480 and Circle M 4-H. She attended Roosevelt University in Chicago, Northern Illinois University, Rock Valley College and Elgin Community College, according to her obituary. In 2020, she graduated from the SwedishAmerican EMS Paramedic class.

It was after an incident in college that landed her in the emergency room that his sister decided to become an EMT, Karl Lamesch said.

“I think she got inspired out of it,” he said. “She found something great, so good for her.”

Melissa Lamesch worked as an EMT at Trace Ambulance Service in Tinley Park and hosted trivia nights for Pub Trivia USA, according to her obituary.

She was a longtime employee of Sullivan’s Foods, a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Oregon and Faith Lutheran Church in Forreston.

Prosecutors’ and law enforcement’s duty is to pursue justice, Ogle County State’s Attorney Mike Rock said.

“That’s what was done here,” he said. “An investigation takes as long as it takes. Some investigations go quicker than others. This particular case, there was a lot of work that was put in by law enforcement to get to the point where we are today.”

Prosecutors did not offer a possible motive in the case.

The other first-degree murder charges and the intentional homicide of an unborn child charges carry sen-

tences of 20- to 60 years in prison, Rock said. They are subject to truth-in-sentencing, meaning 100% of the sentence imposed must be served, he said.

The investigation was complicated by “a number of factors,” Rock said.

“Certainly a fire just adds another layer to the investigation that law enforcement has to do. You had a number of agencies that had to be involved and conduct their own investigations before it can be put together.”

Plote’s bail was set at $10 million/10%, meaning he must post $1 million in order to be released, Rock said. As of 2:21 p.m. Thursday, Plote still was in custody at the Ogle County Jail.

If he posts bond, Plote is required to have no direct or indirect contact with the Lamesch family, according to the arrest warrant.

Plote is set to appear in Ogle County Circuit Court for a status hearing at 2 p.m. April 8.

The 9-year-old had plenty of time to plan his purchases on the ride down with this family from St. Charles, Minnesota, but pulling the right tractor trigger proved a bit tough.

“I like John Deere, but I like Oliver, too,” said Weston referring to the ‘green’ tractor choices at the show.

“But in my opinion John Deere is better.”

Weston’s mom, Rachel, said they made the 247-mile trip to Forreston because Weston loves farming.

“All he says is that he wants to be a farmer,” she said. “His dad is a dairy farmer in Juda, Wisconsin.”

The sharp increase in fuel costs didn’t deter the Leaver family, which included Boop their 8-year-old Yorkshire terrier, from making the trip.

Boop watched all the action while sitting in a backpack.

“Everybody tried to talk me out of it, but it is worth it drive down. We usually hit all the shows, but it has been awhile since we’ve been here,” she said referring to cancellations due to COVID-19. “We’ve missed the shows so much. We’d rather do this than go to a theme park.”

The event is a fundraiser for the Forreston FFA program.

To celebrate this year’s event, two show tractors were highlighted from local dealerships in the area.

Eagle’s Nest tree used to stand on bluff at Lowden

agle’s Nest Tree was located on the 300 feet bluff just below where Black Hawk Statue now stands.

This area was known as the Eagle’s Nest area when Walter Heckman owned this property, which included his mansion located near the entrance of Lowden Memorial State Park.

This area was visited by Margaret Fuller in 1843, seven years after Oregon was officially founded. She named Ganymede Spring and wrote “And beneath the cedar at its crest wrote Ganymede to his Angel.” (July 4, 1843) The remains of this tree now are located at the entrance of the Taft Campus Dining Hall. This is an appropriate location as it was the location of the Eagle’s Nest Art Group.

Lorado Taft was a founding member of the Eagle’s Nest Art Colony. In 1957 Harry Nurmet was a founding member of the Oregon Eagle’s Nest Art Group.

Here is a pictorial history of this tree and the eagle today is probably wondering where this tree is now located today.

Development expected to be economic engine for the region and 150 manufacturing jobs

The developer behind Project Jackpot to revamp the Nippon Sharyo buildings is Zekelman Industries, the largest steel pipe and tube manufacturer across the country.

rrodgers@shawmedia.com ROCHELLE – The developer behind Project Jackpot to revamp the Nippon Sharyo buildings and bring up to 150 jobs to the Sauk Valley is Zekelman Industries, the largest steel pipe and tube manufacturer across the country.

City officials recently announced the long-awaited development for the Nippon Sharyo buildings at the ProLogis industrial park off Interstates 88 and 39, and Zekelman Industries is investing at least $130 million and creating 100 to 150 jobs at the site.

Lee-Ogle Enterprise Zone incentives agreed to by taxing bodies across the region helped bring the project to life.

The city of Rochelle expects the project to foster further industrial and commercial development in the community, according to a news release.

“The city of Rochelle is pleased to welcome Zekelman Industries to our community,” Rochelle Mayor John Bearrows said. “The city of Rochelle was only able to attract this type of development because of our ongoing investment in our utility infrastructure.”

Zekelman is expected to begin operations in the fall. “This announcement was made possible through the efforts of the mayor, City Council, and city staff over almost two years,” City Manager Jeff Fiegenschuh said. “This project demonstrates that Rochelle is an economic engine for the region and that our community is an attractive location for families.”

Nippon Sharyo, a Japanese rail car maker, opened in 2012 and closed in 2018, after incurring huge losses after it was unable to complete a high-tech, bi-level rail car project. The plant was highly specialized for making about 120 of the rail cars annually for North American transportation agencies.

Counties and municipalities in the Lee-Ogle Enterprise Zone agreed to create a new high-impact incentive tier to accommodate the project.

The enterprise zone allows for six years of property tax abatements of 50% if a company meets requirements for new capital investments and job creation within the zone, and the new super tier allows for a 10-year extension of the 50% abatement for developments of at least $100 million that would add at least 125 new jobs.

Development would need to happen within two years, and the company must maintain 95% of the jobs created.

The two Nippon buildings combined have more than 800,000 square feet of industrial and office space on 57 acres. They were sold three years ago for $18 million to a buyer under the name of 1600 Ritchie Court LLC in Delaware, which is the address for the site.

Small, but ‘mighty’ cast presents ‘Annie’ at OHS Oregon High School students presented “Annie” in the OHS Music Room on March 10-13.

Twenty students took part in this year’s play with some playing more than one character.

“Our cast began rehearsing for this production in January and have been meeting for two hours each night,” said Andy Eckardt, band director, and Zach Hall, choir director in the program.

“Annie is a fun, but challenging show that calls for at least 30 characters. We have a small but mighty cast of 20 this year that has been terrific at playing multiple roles.

“Many of the students had to learn over half of the scenes, lines and dances for this production,” they said.

Oregon High School graduate volunteered at Lee County jail for nearly 40 years

DIXON – “Bible Joe” has gone to collect his wellearned heavenly reward.

Joel Shoemaker, who volunteered at the Lee County jail for nearly 40 years, preaching the scripture to inmates from cell to cell in hopes of turning their lives around, died Sunday at Dixon Rehabilitation & Health Care Center. He was 67.

Known as “Bible Joe” during his decades of devoted service, Shoemaker retired from his mission two years ago this month, as the new jail, which no longer allowed volunteers to visit directly with inmates, readied to open.

Shoemaker was a humble man, crediting his good deeds to his heavenly father.

“The Lord was with me and he would give me the words to say, and we ended up smoothing out the ruffled feathers,” he said at the time in an interview with Sauk Valley Media. “I was not able to reach everybody, but was able to reach some.”

Shoemaker, who visited the jail a few hours a week on Tuesdays, nonetheless made the most of his calling.

“When we visit the inmates in jail, or visit somebody who is sick, it’s just like ministering to the Lord himself. It’s my pleasure to be a servant of the most high God,” he said.

“This window is closed, but you never retire from God’s service.”

Indeed, Shoemaker, who also was a teaching aide at the jail, continued his outreach, online and in small Bible study sessions, said his brother, Bradley Shoemaker of Eldora, Iowa.

He was struggling with his health the last four or five months, he said.

Bible Joe said he had been a student of the Bible since 1971, when he was an underclassman at Oregon High School, where he graduated in 1974. His first job was as a copy and errand boy for the Mt. Morris Times.

He moved to Dixon a few years after graduating and began volunteer work at the jail a few years after that.

He retired in 1982 from the former Dixon State School, when it became a state prison, the Dixon Correctional Center.

Dixon’s vacant Shopko building bought by developer

DIXON – An Edwardsville developer now owns the vacant Shopko building at 1350 N. Galena Ave., which it bought for $525,000 earlier this month, Lee County records show.

What R.L.P. Development Co. Inc. plans for the seven-acre site is not yet known. Calls seeking comment Monday were not returned.

It won’t be the southern Illinois company’s first foray into Dixon. It’s also the parent company of R.P. Lumber Co., which has a store at 2158 state Route 26, about midway between Dixon and Polo.

The Dixon department store was among the last 120 of its 360 nationwide that Shopko closed in June 2019 after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy that January.

Shopko Optical continues to operate, including the store at 1600 S. Galena Ave. The purchase does not include the County Market site west of the Shopko building, at 1380 N. Galena, in the same shopping center.

R.L.P. Development was founded by Robert L. Plummer in 1988, 11 years after he opened his first lumber yard.

The ins and outs of the boys state basketball tournament

T

ime to put a cap on the highschool basketball season, with four boys champions crowned at Champaign last Saturday.

Let’s start with 1A, where Yorkville Christian dominated tourney play, winning its games by a margin of 40 points game. Bottom line – this was an all-star team that had an unfair advantage over the rest of the field.

How else could a school that started with 13 students in 2014 and has only been IHSA-sanctioned since 2016 make such a meteoric rise? After playing a 3A/4A schedule with a Duke recruit on its roster, Yorkville Christian entered the postseason with 13 losses.

But, as one player was quoted as saying, “Now we get to release our anger on (1A) teams.”

Yorkville knew they would make a mockery out of the tournament, though Liberty gave them all they could handle in the first half of the championship game before falling away in the second half.

Here is where the story gets weirder. Yorkville also won the 1A state dual wrestling meet. How is that possible when only 60 students are in the school?

All of us were making a big deal of how Scales Mound, with 77 students,

That was such a long shot in itself.

Everyone was happy for the Scales Mound, but few felt the same about small-school enrollment Yorkville, including fellow Christians such as myself.

They did play by the IHSA roles, which will never be fair as long as private and public schools compete in the same postseason. Some states have separate tourneys, but that isn’t necessarily the best solution either.

There will never be an equitable answer to the public-private debate and the IHSA does its best to minimize competitive advantage by the privates.

The 2A and 3A state finals came down to last-second shots, with downstate teams bringing good crowds to the State Farm Center. Glenbard West, a public school from the suburbs and one of the best in Illinois in recent memory, dominated 4A and had a

huge following.

I wasn’t at Champaign, but had “boots on the ground” with friend Dan Engelkes present. Curious as to his take on comparing Champaign to Peoria, site of the state tournament for the past 25 years “It was a better game atmosphere,” Englekes said. “But hotel prices higher and logistics of going anywhere are way worse. Nothing walkable so extra cost for Uber, etc.”

He said the crowds were much better for 3A/4A on Friday than 1A/2A on Thursday.

“Sparse yesterday. Better energy today but a lot of empty seats, “ he added. “No one at third-place games tonight.”

Yes, the third-place games make no sense, especially considering they were played the same day as the semifinals. Other than friends and family members of the two teams playing, no one cares.

I also checked in with longtime Rockford Register Star writer Matt Trowbridge, who was in Champaign reporting on Scales Mound.

“Scales Mound has big crowds, but I don’t think the move (to Champaign from Peoria) or change to four classes together in three days helped,” Trow-

bridge said. “I think Peoria and Normal have better arenas for high school basketball.”

Though they got hammered by Liberty in the semifinal, Scales Mound was happy to get a bit of redemption in the third-pace game with a decisive victory. That at least proved their trip downstate wasn’t a by-product of a weak field of teams in northern Illinois.

For as long as the state tournament has been in existence, there has been the school of thought that superior basketball is played in southern and central Illinois than what is found in the north.

As we close the door on the Scales Mound story, here is one statistic that hardly any other team in the state could ever say and that is 5,000 varsity points collectively scored by its seniors.

The only way something like that is possible is the amount of time these kids have spent on the varsity roster, most playing since freshmen.

Serenity Home and Hospice event April 6

Serenity Home and Hospice will host its first Art Dash Fundraiser at Cork and Tap, 305 W. Washington St., Oregon, on Wednesday, April 6 from 6 to 7 p.m.

Tickets are divided into two categories, “Dasher” which cost $100 and “Spectator” which cost $50.

The fundraiser will feature 50 local artists from throughout the nine counties that are serviced by Serenity, all of whom have donated original artwork worth at least $100.

After the “Art Preview”, three attendees who have

purchased “Dasher” tickets will be randomly selected to dash for an art piece of their choosing. Every “Dasher” will have the opportunity to go home with an art piece.

“Spectators” will not have the opportunity to “Dash” for art. Both “Dashers” and “Spectators” will be able to enjoy live music, light bites, view the art and mingle with many of the artists.

Funds raised will be used to help continue to provide care and free, ongoing bereavement services.

OREGON POLICE Oregon Police Chief Shawn Melville reports the following police activity.

March 7 At 1:30 p.m., Oregon’s School Resource Officer (SRO) issued one 17-year-old male juvenile, of Oregon, a civil citation for possession of cannabis not more than 10 grams, a civil citation for possession of a wax-like substance containing THC and issued a city citation for violating ordinance 6-84, possession of tobacco products and alternative nicotine products. These violations occurred in the Oregon High School student parking lot. The student was then released into the school’s custody.

Jamie L. Sparrowgrove, 35, of Rockford, was issued a

citation at 2:26 p.m. for operating a vehicle in violation of the tinted front side windows law. This violation occurred in the 600 block of North Fourth St. March 8 At 3:42 p.m., police investigated a two-vehicle traffic crash in the 1100 block of Jefferson Street involving a 2015 Dodge driven by Angela J. Harrolle, 45, of Chana, and a parked 2019 Nissan owned by Jessica L. Kiesling, 37, of Oregon. No citations were issued.

Uriel Moreno, 32, of Rockford, was arrested at 4:02 p.m. for driving while license suspended. Moreno was also issued a citation for operating a vehicle when registration is suspended.

Moreno was transported to the Ogle County Jail. These violations occurred in the 500 block of North Fourth Street.

At 6:43 p.m., police placed one 15-year-old male juvenile into limited custody for the offense of battery. The juvenile was released into his parent’s custody with a referral to the Ogle County State’s Attorney’s Office for review.

Jeffrey M. Billeter, 64, of Byron, was arrested at 9:49 p.m. for driving while under the influence of alcohol. Billeter was also issued a citation for improper lane use. Billeter was transported to the Ogle County Jail. These violations occurred in the 100 block of North Fourth Street.

Continued from Page 13 March 9 Christina G. Jordan, 42, of Oregon, was arrested at 5:55 p.m. for driving while license suspended. Jordan was transported to the Ogle County Jail. This violation occurred in the 1000 block of N. IL Route 2.

Berogan W. Garcia-Free, 22, of Sterling, was issued a citation at 9:14 p.m. for speeding, 44 mph in a 30 mph zone. This violation occurred in the 600 block of North Fourth Street.

March 10 At 8:01 a.m., police responded to the area of West Washington and South 10th Street intersection for a car vs. school bus crash where the offending vehicle, a 2006 Ford driven by Marc A. Taylor, II, 29, of Rockford, struck the back of a school bus while it was in the turn lane, waiting to turn left onto 10th Street. Taylor was issued citations for improper lane use and failure to give aid or information. There were no injuries.

March 11 At 5:04 p.m., police responded to a two-vehicle traffic crash at the intersection

of South Seventh and Washington streets involving a 2015 GMC driven by Mason A. Breeden, 16, of Oregon, and a 2012 Lincoln driven by Steven E. Pierson, 64, of Byron. No citations were issued.

March 12 Wyiatt D. Ackerson, 28, of Byron, was issued a citation at 6:18 a.m. for operating a vehicle with no valid registration. This violation occurred in the 500 block of South Second Street.

Juana D. Lopez, 30, of Genoa, was issued a citation at 8:14 p.m. for disobeying a traffic control device. This violation occurred at the

OGLE COUNTY SHERIFF ACTIVITY Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle reports the following activity: March 8 Ronald Monette, 49, of Davis Junction, was arrested at 5:35 p.m. for driving while under the influence of alcohol after a traffic stop in the 13000 block of Illinois Route 72. He was arrested after deputies stopped a Dodge pickup driven by Monette for use of electronic communication device while driving. Monette was transported to the Ogle County Jail and held in lieu of bond.

Gabriel Ortega Avila, 32, of the state of Texas, was arrested for no valid driver’s license after a traffic stop on Interstate 39 mile marker 106 at approximately 9:23 p.m. for no registration light. Ortega Avila was released on an I-Bond and given a future court date.

Jeremiah D. Harvey, 21, of Rockford, was arrested at 9:37 p.m. for driving while license suspended after a traffic stop on Interstate 88 mile marker 76 ¾. Harvey also was cited

for illegal window tint. Harvey was taken into custody without incident and released on-scene on a $2,500/10% I-Bond and given a return court date.

March 9 Troy Scott, 27, of Rochelle, was arrested at 8:31 p.m. for driving while under the influence of alcohol after a traffic stop on Illinois Route 38 at Seventh Street in Rochelle for a traffic violation. Scott also was cited for speeding 1- to 10 mph over the limit, improper turn signal and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. Scott was transported to the Ogle County Jail and held in lieu of bond.

March 11 Juma Mrisho, 29, of Rockford, was arrested at 1:10 p.m. for driving while license suspended after a traffic stop in the 5000 block of Illinois Route 251 for an expired registration. Mrisho also was cited for

expired registration and driving while uninsured. Mrisho was taken into custody and released on a $2,500/10% I-Bond with a return court date.

March 13 Samuel Nieva Rodriguez, 20, of Rockford, was arrested for no valid driver’s license after being stopped for speeding on Interstate 39 near Monroe Center. Nieva Rodriguez was released on an I-Bond and given a court date.

Steven Maronde, 53, of Leaf River, was arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol after being stopped in the 3700 block of North Leaf River Road at approximately 12:55 a.m. for improper traffic lane use. Maronde also was cited for improper land use. Maronde was transported to the Ogle County Jail and held in lieu of bond.

March 14 At approximately 6:34 p.m., Rochelle Fire

Department/EMS, Flagg Center Fire Department and deputies were dispatched to the area of 12000 East Flagg Road for a report of a one-vehicle crash with injuries.

After an investigation, it was found that a Nissan Altima driven by Robert Trumbull, 76, of Rochelle, left the roadway traveling east in the 12000 block of East Flagg Road and entered the north ditch. The Nissan drove over two culverts on the north side ditch and came to rest after striking a creek embankment. Trumbull was transported to Rochelle Community Hospital with non-life-threatening injures. The crash remains under investigation.

Rudy Dozal, 46, of Rockford, was arrested for no valid driver’s license after a traffic stop at approximately 7:52 p.m. at Illinois Route 64 and Mulford Road. Dozal also was cited for an inoperable rear registration light.

Dozal was taken into custody without incident and released on an I-Bond with a return court date.

The Oregon Ganymedes Base Ball Club has new T-shirts and sweatshirts available for purchase in both adult and youth sizes featuring a new Ganymedes logo design.

The money raised from the sale of these gray and red shirts will help cover the cost of the team’s Field of Dreams field rental May 27 and the purchase of other team equipment for the 2022 season.

The Oregon Ganymedes Vintage Base Ball Club is an all-volunteer educational outreach program of the Chana School Museum.

The contract documents, including y Drawings and Specifications, and form of contract and bonds for performance and payment, are on file at the office of the City Clerk, 115 N. 3rd Street, Oregon, IL 61061 and at the office of the ENGINEER, Willett, Hofmann & Associates, Inc., 809 East 2nd Street, Dixon, IL 61021.

Copies of the Contract Documents, including Project Manual and the Construction Drawings, shall be obtained electronically in PDF format from the Willett, Hofmann & Associates, Inc. website at www.willett hofmann.com. Contractors shall click on “Bid Login” on the homepage of the website and follow the instructions.

The eBidDoc# (project number) is 8151231 for this project. The Project Manual, Construction Drawings and Bid Documents PDFs can be downloaded from the website by depositing fifteen dollars ($15.00) by credit card.

A certified check or bank draft, payable to the order of the City of Oregon negotiable U.S. Government Bonds (at par value) or a satisfactory Bid Bond executed by the Bidder and an acceptable surety in an amount equal to five percent (5%) of the total bid shall be submitted with each bid.

Attention is called to the fact that not less than the minimum salaries and wages as set forth in the Contract Documents must be paid on this project, and that the CONTRACTOR must ensure that employees and applicants for employment are not discriminated against because of their race, color, religion, sex or national origin.
