chools have closed their doors and children have an abundance of free time, which can only mean it’s summer. Thankfully, for children and parents alike, Kendall County is offering children special summer events and camps to keep their minds and bodies active.

Kid’s Connection at Oswego

All through the year, the Oswegoland Park District hosts Kid’s Connection, a recreational program that works in conjunction with School District 308. Throughout the summer, as well as during the school year, kids will have the opportunity to play games, learn and keep active at locations like Wheatlands Elementary, Churchhill Elementary, Southberry Elementary and the Southpoint Park Distirct. “It’s a before- and after-school program,” said Cheral Gerstung, coordinator of Early Childhood Special Projects at the Oswegoland Park Distirct. “And we have a summer camp which is a 12-hour-a-day program [with an] athletics mini camp and engineering program.” Shemeka Wesby of Oswego has been taking her three children to Kids’ Connections since her oldest, Shemaiah, was still

According to Wesby, though the programs might be different between her children, they are together in one place and their activities often overlap. “Having all three of them in one central location doing age appropriate things is a great thing,” Wesby said. “This year, their favorite part was going to Prairie Fest. They loved it so much they recreated it at home with their own snacks and their own games. They pretended to sell tickets and have rides. It was cute.”
