Over the past few years PSACC has continued to grow throughout both & surrounding communities. The main chamber office is located right in downtown Plainfield and is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday; our satellite office is located at the Shorewood Village Hall and is open on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. For over three and a half years as Mayor, and with your help, we have been making the Best Plainfield! By untapping the energy of all of our 50,000 residents, an unprecedented era of progress has dawned – a new Golden Age in our history. The door has been opened to a new generation of ‘doers’ who are stepping forward, respecting our traditions but also innovating and creating the new Plainfield.
During the last few years our industrial base has grown by leaps and bounds, helping to provide a diversified tax base that relieves the burden on the homeowner. For the first time, in fiscal year 2022/23 and continuing to the present, our sales tax revenue has outstripped our real estate tax base with so much more to come.
While there are so many new, expanding, and thriving small businesses, some of the newer additions include Cooper’s Hawk, Woodman’s, and Barrel & Vine with even more in the pipeline. Plainfield abounds in food and beverage options both in the old downtown and out on our major highways offering craft food, locally roasted coffee, cocktails, craft beer, and live music every week.
We have also focused on promoting a vibrant cultural life in Plainfield as the Plainfield Arts Community Theatre group (known as the Playnfield Players) puts on its first production – A Christmas Carol – to add to the holiday happenings here in our town. Catalyzed by a gift of land, we’ve launched the Plainfield Public Arts Council which will design and promote public art in Plainfield. So many private individuals and groups contribute to the quality of life we experience in this Will County’s oldest community including: This past year we hosted our first Criterium Cycling Race, the Barro Hispanic heritage festival, Harvest 5K, the Homecoming and St Patrick’s Day parades, and so much more.
Plainfield is about quality of life – economic opportunity, safety, and recreational options for our residents. People and businesses want to be here and new homes abound. My name is Clarence “CC” DeBold and I am proud to be the Mayor of the Village of Shorewood.
Serving as mayor in Shorewood is not only rewarding, but it has also given me the opportunity to meet so many people who care about Shorewood as much as I do.
The Village of Shorewood is a community of just over 18,000 residents, and we continue to grow. Shorewood sits along the DuPage River, which is a source of recreation for many during the summer months. People enjoy kayaking, rafting and fishing on the river, as well as utilizing our numerous parks. Shorewood is a community that that still has that “small town” feel, and people find it a desirable place to call home.
Shorewood prides itself on the many exciting events and activities that take place throughout the year. Our annual Holiday Market brings in residents and visitors alike, and this takes place the first weekend in December. We have food, drinks, vendors, plenty of activities and special guests to
get everyone in the holiday season.
The village also hosts a “Party in the Park” series on Thursday nights throughout the summer. There are alternating concert and movie nights, which are all family-friendly events. We also host BBQ & Brews in June, Crossroads Fest in August and OktoBREWfest in September. If you have not been to an event in Shorewood, put it on your agenda because you will not be disappointed. Plainfield is a prosperous and bustling village, located 35 miles southwest of Chicago, with a population of 39,581 residents. Kendall Area Transit (KAT) will implement transit service in the Kendall County area that is reliable, flexible, and financially sustainable, while satisfying the various mobility needs of the general public and individuals unable to access or operate a private automobiles.
Kendall Area Transit provides curb-to-curb and door-to-door services for Kendall County residents. This is a general public transportation service with a priority for the disabled and seniors. Bus services are available 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday (except holidays).

The Ride DuPage program, a service providing valuable paratransit options for seniors and people with disabilities, has expanded to Wheatland Township. Operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with both bus and taxi service, Ride DuPage specializes in reduced fares and door-to-door service for seniors and people with disabilities. DINING, SHOPPING & HOUSING OPTIONS EXPAND IN PLAINFIELD

New restaurants and retail continue to fill spaces throughout the Plainfield community.
This past year the community welcomed several new restaurants in the downtown including the family-owned Altiro Latin Fusion, Fuse’d and The Clifton, created by owners of the Next Whiskey Bar in Plainfield and Lisle. A former sandwich shop in the downtown has become Dario Mercato, serving pizza, sandwiches and gelato. The new restaurant Barrel & Vine will be serving guests inside the former Opera House in the downtown.
The local entertainment location of The Boulevard Place, which straddles Plainfield and Joliet, at Route 55 and Route 30 continues to develop with new additions. On the Plainfield side there will be a Cooper’s Hawk restaurant and there are new additions planned for the Joliet property as well.
2025 SPECIAL CENSUS
Coming soon to Plainfield: the U.S. Census Bureau will be conducting a population count in the spring of 2025 for Plainfield’s Special Census. The process will be similar to the decennial census, residents will be able to respond online, via mail, or in-person.
Another major development continuing during the next year is the Woodman’s Food Market at 119th and Route 59. The new Woodman’s grocery store will be 243,000 square feet, which is roughly 100,000 square feet larger than the Cosco in Plainfield.
Construction continues to progress on new housing developments in Plainfield including Riverstone along the DuPage River at 127th Street, which includes plans for single family and town homes. The development Keller Farm located off Wallin Drive and Lockport is mix of single-family homes with townhomes near eight acres of new commercial property for future development. The development called Lockley Park near Steiner and 143rd Street includes townhomes.
In the 2020 Census the Village of Plainfield was the sixth-fastest growing community in the state.
The village requested a special census due to the community’s growth since 2020. It is important for residents to respond in order to ensure that our community is accurately represented and receives its fair share of federal funding that is used for public safety, street repairs, and other municipal services. SHOREWOOD SEES GROWTH IN SHOPPING, RESIDENTIAL

The start of construction for new homes and the addition of new businesses setting down roots continues to strengthen the Shorewood community.
In the past year several new businesses have opened in Shorewood including two fitness facilities. Construction has begun on the new Dollar Tree in Shorewood Market Street development and the new business is slated to open in 2025.
The Troy Fire Protection District is overseeing the building of a new 18,200-square-foot fire station and training center at 748 Jones Road in Shorewood. Work was completed in October 2024 on the training tower on the site, which will enable fire services training in a controlled environment.

SPACES
Families welcomed the new We Rock the Spectrum, a facility geared to families with young children and a resource for families of children with special needs. In addition to the therapy spaces there is a large indoor play space with sensory equipment and climbing structures.
The village received a grant from Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development to offset costs on the River’s Edge Park. The development of the park is a multi-year, multi-phase and when complete will include playgrounds, a trail system and volleyball courts in addition to a shelter and parking lot.
Shorewood will be the home of a new X-Golf, an indoor golf simulator facility. Customers will be able to enjoy playing on courses around the world and with food and beverage options on site, it makes for a great experience with friends. The business was looking to create leagues and will offer lessons with an on-site golf pro.
Residential growth continues in Shorewood. In the continued development of Town Center II, Lennar Homes has proposed building 139 single-family homes just off Wynstone, north of Jefferson. The designs for the development including walking paths that connect to Town Center Park and neighboring developments.
Lennar Homes has proposed a new singlefamily development called Auburn Chase on the south side of Seil Road, west of Four
Seasons Park in Shorewood. The developer has proposed 277 single-family homes in a development adjacent to property owned by Minooka Grade School District and would include a playground, walking paths, two large ponds and a dog park too. The developer had originally proposed condos and townhomes for the site and has revised the plan moving forward with single-family homes.
Also looking to start construction in 2025 is Hamptons of Shorewood, a mixed-use development that includes commercial, residential spaces and recreational space located near the Towne Center. The development includes a mixture of first-floor retail and upper floor residential units as well as townhomes with attached garages and rental homes.
HIGH SCHOOLERS BUILD THEIR FUTURE IN BUSINESS WITH THE INCUBATOR PROGRAM

Members of the Plainfield business community are returning to the classroom as they help the next generation prepare to do great things. This year Plainfield School District 202 launched the INCubator Program, a new yearlong business class in the four high schools.
As part of the national program, INCubatoredu, students work in small groups to identify a problem or need and work to resolve it with a product or service. Students are working for more than just a grade on the report card. At stake is the chance for a scholarship for students to use with their continuing education or an investment in their future business, explained Dr. Kate Morris, District 202 Director of
High School Curriculum and Instruction.
To prepare for the program, the school district and members of the local business community have been working together to develop the course and identify mentors to assist the teacher and students in the year-long course.
“The goal is to have the project be a bridge between the community and the school,” Morris said.
Each high school has a Community Champion, who serves as a liaison between the school and the business community and helps recruit volunteers to serve as coaches, mentors and board advisors. For the 2024-25 school year, the Community Champions include:
Cristina Zamarron, owner of Tortilla Flatz Mexican Grill for Plainfield High School-Central Campus; Phil Ramos, president of Office Furniture Solutions for Plainfield South High School; Tasha Marsaglia, executive director of the Plainfield-Shorewood Area Chamber of Commerce for Plainfield North High School and Susan Hohlman, a sales trainer, mentor and entrepreneur for Plainfield East High School.
Each class has mentors, members of the local business community who provide feedback and support to the students. Coaches, are able to help co-teach a specific lesson or topic with the teacher.
Morris said initial fears of finding sufficient support from the business community have been erased thanks to the incredible
support, with more than 35 business mentors working across the district’s four high schools.
“It’s been a great experience for our students and the community members,” Morris said. “The mentors and coaches are giving so much to our students.”
For the students, the opportunity to interact with members of the business community provides realworld connections.
“It teaches entrepreneur skills, business skills and it also teaches collaboration, problem solving, public speaking, all items that can be used in any facet of life,” Morris said.
The students’ projects have proven inventive and interesting, Morris said, identifying a problem or product that would resolve a need.

STANDARDIZED TESTS
The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) is Illinois’ elementary and middle school standardized achievement exam. It is given to all 3rd-8th graders and measures student progress in meeting state learning expectations in English and Math. Plainfield students exceed the State percentages in both English (38%) and Math (32%) with scores of 48% and 41%. Plainfield also exceeds Illinois’ SAT college
entrance exams scores with an average Composite Score of 1034 compared to the State’s 997.

Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 has a diverse racial makeup of the student body with 51.9% White; 24.7% Hispanic; 11.8% Black/African American; 7% Asian; 4.3% Multi-Racial; 0.3% American Indian/Alaska native; and 0.1% Native Hawaiian/other Pacific.
NEW RESOURCES
While remote learning certainly had an impact during the 2020 school year, many of the resources purchased to assist with remote learning will become a valued asset for future learning. In September 2020, Plainfield District 202 purchased 6,700 laptops for pre-kindergarten through third grade students for use with remote learning. The additional resources will undoubtedly make future learning more flexible and increase the number of overall students who will have access to laptops.

Minooka Community High School District 111 (MCHS) is a mid-sized school district, which encompasses over 90 square miles. Student population consists largely from the communities of Minooka and Channahon, but also includes portions of Shorewood and Joliet.
Students enrolled at Minooka Community High School District #111 perform well on state standardized tests and have earned an impressive variety of local, state, and national academic awards. MCHS boasts 26 athletic varsity teams and 52 clubs and organizations students can join.

In the past few years Plainfield has welcomed several new eateries to its downtown and that includes Altiro Latin Fusion.
The family-owned chain, with locations in Wheaton, Geneva and Aurora is making a name for its fresh ingredients with a dedication to providing food that is locally produced and knowing where and how the meats are raised and where the vegetables are grown.
The restaurant features a tapas concept, inviting guests to select and share small plates, tapas style. The Latin-fusion of cuisine is influenced with dishes from Spain, Mexico and South America.
Altiro is slang for “being on top of it/on it/aware, and whether it is the menu of food or drinks, the aim is to be on top of it While the menu has its staples, with the changing seasons find special dishes and cocktails to explore.
The restaurant founder is Chef Roberto Avila and his wife, Erika Villanueva, who in addition to designing the locations, coordinates the restaurants special events.
“What makes Altiro, is that we stay consistent with how we do everything throughout our locations. Same recipes, server speech, work attention and attention to details and most importantly the love to the service we provide,” Avila said.
The Plainfield location includes weekend brunch, daily specials and a Happy Hour Menu with an incredible cocktail menu as well as a house-made Sangria.
In looking to expand, the owners were drawn to Plainfield community for its location.
“Plainfield is a great community, we love what the downtown has to offer, it’s so beautiful and we love our neighboring businesses,” Avila said. “The Plainfield community has been amazing. We have been so well received, welcomed, loved.”

THE ROYAL TEA ROOM
In a world of feeling rushed and eating on the go, Michelle Cunningham invites everyone to slow down, visit with friends and make time for afternoon tea.
In 2024 Cunningham and her business partner Tim Engler launched The Royal Tea Room in Shorewood and it has quickly become a favorite spot where friends and family can slow down and enjoy a multi-course tea service.
Cunningham chose Shorewood for her tea room after getting to know the community through her prior work as a 911 dispatcher. She said she saw the opportunity for a special niche business that was missing in the south suburbs.
“This was a perfect location,” Cunningham said. “It’s really central, right off Interstate 80, Route 59 and Interstate 55, making it an ideal location.”
Cunningham was inspired to launch the restaurant after the memories she created with her mother. They’d sip tea at the Drake Hotel in Chicago, even making their way to Europe for afternoon tea in a castle and posh hotel.
“Afternoon tea has held a special part of my life and my memories for as long as I can remember,
not just with my mom, but with family, friends and so many people I have loved through the years,” she said.
Following the loss of her mother in 2022, she found herself recalling the memories of their times together. With the business, she saw the opportunity to provide a way for others to build similar memories too.
RESERVATIONS RECOMMENDED
A visit to The Royal Tea Room is a multi-sensory experience. Reservations are booked for 90 minutes, and guests choose either a four or five course serving tea, scones, mini sandwiches and of course, desserts.
Guests often come dressed up for the occasion and for many, it’s the first time their little girl has wrapped her tiny fingers around fine china to sip tea.
“I see multiple generations of women coming in. It’s so beautiful. I see mothers and daughters, grandmothers, longtime friends,” Cunningham said. “It’s so heartwarming.”
The mismatched china has been curated from Cunningham’s visits to local thrift shops and supplemented with a number of donations from customers who are eager to see items out of boxes and in use.
“Every saucer and tea cup has a story,” Cunningham said.
Reservations are highly recommended, to ensure the table can be set and ready on arrival, and the restaurant has the staffing and food to meet the guests for each day.
The restaurant also hosts special events including bridal showers, baby showers and birthdays. She recently welcomed a bride and her grandmother from England visiting the U.S. for the first time and said the grandmother told her the tea room made her feel like she was at home.
“That made my day,” Cunningham said. “We put our hearts into this place.”
She credits Engler, who in addition to being her business partner is also her long-term boyfriend, who was able to take her vision for the restaurant and build it.
“Tim took my dream and created a reality,” she said.
Along with the food, the ambiance and experience, Cunningham and her staff are there to share the history and meaning behind afternoon tea. She loves how it truly represents a space where women have gathered together for years and to be a part of that experience for local families with each visit for afternoon tea.

Cozy styles and sizes for all women has kept customers coming back for more at Posh West Boutique in Shorewood.
Owner Sadie Smith West launched her shop six years ago, welcoming women of all ages and sizes to shop for stylish, comfortable clothes. One of her specialties is denim and fitting women from small to 3 XL in the perfect pair of jeans. She carries the popular line of Judy Blue Jeans, which come in a variety of styles from skinny to wide leg. She also carries styles of Vervet denim, which also touts sizes from 0 to 24.
“From size 0 to 22, I can fit everyone. I can fit all bodies,” West explained. “I want them to b the jeans you reach for.”
Though boutique is in the name, you won’t find red-carpet fashion. Whether they’re looking for something to wear to work, on the soccer field, traveling with family or a relaxing weekend at home.
“Come in and we can help you find a whole outfit or specific pieces,” West said.
When she’s shopping for inventory she has an eye for trendy, yet age appropriate for her customers. She’s always in tune with her suppliers and travels to fashion shows in Atlanta to be able to touch and feel the fabrics, inspect the materials. If an item isn’t good enough, she won’t carry it in her shop.
She models her shop like an “Old School Carson’s” where customers can come in and chat with the staff.
“Our customers have become our friends. We know them, their families and their kids,” West explained. “It’s a whole experience, not just a store.”
In a world where one can shop from their phone or wander alone through large retail stores, West and her staff focus on the customer experience. It’s a place where customers drop in to visit and shop, and maybe stay and chat a while too.
West said her staff understands women and they aren’t afraid to talk about, whether it’s the way a body changes during menopause or customers’ on a weight-loss journey and trying to find clothes to fit a new body.
“We’re here to support. We want women to shop for their body and enjoy shopping,” West said.
Throughout the year she hosts Sip and Shop events where customers can nosh on snacks, enjoy a glass of wine and enjoy a private shopping experience with friends. The event hostess can earn shopping rewards too. There is a customer loyalty program where shoppers can earn rewards toward coupons.
Whether it’s a private shopping or a visit on a Thursday afternoon, West said she and her staff are always there to help a customer
find what they need, whether its shopping for themselves or a gift too. And she offers free gift wrapping and gift cards too.
Along with clothing she carries accessories including purses as well as some seasonal and home décor.
This year she opened a second location in Manhattan, bringing her store philosophy and fashion to the small town where her son enjoys riding horses. She hopes with a second location she can reach more customers and share the shopping joy and retail therapy.
THE WELCOME WAGGIN CARES FOR PETS

ompassionate veterinary care for cats and dogs in the comfort of their homes. That’s the mission of The Welcome Waggin In-Home Veterinary Care based in downtown Plainfield.
Dr. Jeni Waeltz took ownership of the practice in 2020 and has helped it grow. In four years, she has more than quadrupled the staffing and seen exponential growth in the customer base. Today the practice has three doctors on the road visiting patients and each of them travels with a vet technician for the house calls.
“We’re about building relationships,” Waeltz said.
In addition, the practice has an office space in downtown Plainfield where clients can pick up medications and drop-off lab work. The office space serves as a starting point for each team as they prepare their mobile units for daily appointments. The mobile units are equipped with portable X-ray machines, ultrasounds enabling the doctor and technician to perform routine exams and additional testing as needed.
For Waeltz, having an office space in downtown Plainfield helps her stay connected to the community, even with a practice that has her staff on the road. Her staff includes Plainfield residents and the close proximity to Interstate 55 makes it easy for staff to reach patients in the Western Suburbs, from La Grange to Joliet, Downers Grove and Oswego.
“I love being involved in the community. There’s always something going on,” Waeltz
said. “It’s the perfect locations and it keeps us involved and in the loop of everything.”
From the Cruise Nights to the holiday events, she and the staff love seeing their clients and catching up with them as they attend events in downtown Plainfield.
Waeltz, a graduate of Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine, was working in a clinic for a number of years when like many in the field, she began feeling the industry burnout. She came on board at The Waggin In-Home Veterinary Care and quickly saw the difference with in-home care.
“I fell in love with it,” Waeltz said. “It’s definitely a different atmosphere.”
Visiting her canine and feline patients in the home often proves far less stressful for the animals and their humans. It also provides the medical staff with an opportunity to see the pets in their home setting.
“Cats hate going into the vet. We have large breed dogs that as they get older have a harder time getting in the car. We have clients who have multiple pets, and several clients who live in senior adult independent communities that we service,” Waeltz said.
As a certified life and leadership coach, Waeltz is able to focus on her staff, with guidance and support in a field that can tax emotions. Many in the field find themselves dealing with compassion fatigue as they help clients navigate a pet’s illness or when the time comes, helping a client say good bye to a loved pet. Waeltz supports her staff, enabling them to provide the best care for clients.
In the Spring of 2021, Plainfield Athletic Club became part of Little League International. PAC has the opportunity to enter both baseball and softball divisions into the year-end international tournaments including the Little League World Series as seen on ESPN and ABC TV.
Plainfield Athletic Club
The Plainfield Athletic Club was established in 1952 and today, has almost 1,000 players, ages 4-16, in both in-house and travel leagues. Softball and baseball leagues are available. Registration for in-house begins in November with the season beginning in April and ending by mid June. Youth are separated by age or grade level. A travel league is available for youth ages 8-15, tryouts are in July and August. PAC’s Board of Directors, league commissioners, and head and assistant coaches are all volunteers.
VILLAGE OF SHOREWOOD YMCA

Plans continue to develop the new Village of Shorewood YMCA, thanks to a collaborative partnership between the Village of Shorewood and the YMCA.
The new state-of-the-art YMCA facility will serve residents of Shorewood and the greater Joliet area for generations to come.
The plans call for a nearly 60,000-square-foot YMCA to be built along the thriving Route 52 corridor near the Village Hall in Shorewood. The new facility will have a gymnasium, an eightlane swimming pool, a state-ofthe-art wellness center, group exercise studios, and an indoor walking track.
The facility will have space for indoor youth programming as well as spaces for youth sports, and summer camps. The new YMCA facility will also host some of the Village’s park and recreation programs.
In partnership with Minooka High School, the Shorewood YMCA will serve as the home pool for the Minooka High School Swim Team.
In the partnership, the Village of Shorewood and the YMCA are sharing the construction costs and have outlined a multi-year agreement.
“We are really excited to expand our mission to serve the residents of Shorewood and the surrounding communities,” said Trisha Dust, executive director for the Village of Shorewood YMCA.
It will be a space for learning and enjoyment for all ages, with gathering and meeting space and even a demonstration kitchen.
Upon completion, the plan is for the regional headquarters of the YMCA to move to the new facility. The target opening of the new YMCA is spring 2026, which also marks the 100th anniversary of the Greater Joliet Area YMCA.
The YMCA has served the residents of Will and Grundy counties for nearly 100 years. Nearby facilities include Plainfield, Morris, and Joliet, as well as more than 50 community program sites in both counties. Through its financial assistance and scholarship program, the YMCA works to fulfill its mission of ensuring that its programs are available to everyone and no one is turned away due to the inability to pay.
