Marshall-Putnam Fair to host senior day July 13

Senior Day will take place during the Marshall-Putnam Fair, starting at 8 a.m. Thursday, July 13, at the M-P Fairgrounds, located at 915 University Ave. in Henry.
The event will include free admission to the Senior Day program, refreshments and music from the Henry Torpedo Boys in the Hunt Building. Seniors will be greeted by local officials and Rotary Club members of the two counties.
Retired Marshall-Putnam Judges Mike McCuskey and Scott Shore will emcee the event that will include many donated door prizes for those older than 65 and a guest

Praise and Shine gospel quartet to perform June 11 at Putnam Christian Church
The Praise and Shine gospel group will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 11, at the Putnam Christian Church, 301 Center St. in Putnam.

The Henry Torpedo Boys will include Terry Feldott on banjo and guitar, Rich Selquist on dobro, Dave “Barney” Erickson on mandolin, fiddle and guitar, Tom Bogner on bass, Todd Witek on guitar and all of the members pitching in on vocals. The group will play a selection of bluegrass, new grass and a little bit of country.
Seniors needed transportation to the fairgrounds are encouraged to call BPART in Bureau and Putnam counties at 877-874-8813 or Marshall-Stark Transportation at 309364-2287 to be added to the schedule.
The Putnam County Community Center also will help coordinate transportation to the fairgrounds.
Grace Davis Scholarship to accept applications through July 1
The Grace Davis Scholarship Trust is now accepting applications from college-bound students for 2023-24 school year.
Praise and Shine is an a capella gospel quartet that sings barbershop style 4-part harmonies. The quartet was first established in January 1987 in the Princeton Bible Church.
Some members have changed over the years, but the quartet has continued to perform on TV, radio, churches and social functions in Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, Michigan, Kentucky, Tennessee, Colorado, Texas and California. Praise and Shine has also recorded three albums, one being a Christmas themed.
Current Praise and Shine singers include mother and daughter, Vickie Holmes and Gwen Roseberg, along with Beverly Odell and Marty Kiser. There will be a free will offering and refreshments will be served.
Putnam County Methodist Churches to host blood drive June 19 in McNabb
Putnam County Methodist Churches will host a Red Cross community blood drive from 1 to 6 p.m. Monday, June 19, at Goldasich Hall in the McNabb Fire Department, at 391 Route 89.
The drive is open to repeat and firsttime donors. All blood types will be accepted.
For appointments, call 1-800-733-2767. Donors also may sign up and register online using RapidPass at redcrossblood.org.

Magnolia Township Preservation Association to host McNabb Grain presentation June 11
The Magnolia Township Preservation Association will be hosting Bart Ericson, general manager of McNabb Grain, for a presentation on the history of McNabb Grain starting at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 11, at the MTPA Museum, located at 110 N. Peoria St. in Magnolia.
Ericson, who served in his position since 2010, will detail the history of the organization that began on March 22, 1913, as a farmer’s co-op. McNabb Grain has since served the local agricultural community for 110 years.
The museum will open at 1 p.m. with the program scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
The mission of MTPA is to research, collect, preserve, promote and communicate the history of Magnolia Township to educate future generations.
This scholarship is open to students who have lived in Magnolia Township (McNabb/Magnolia area) or Hope Township (Lostant area) for at least 10 years and maintain a full-time student status.
A letter stating college choice, major and other information about the applicant can be sent to Grace Davis Scholarship Trust c/o Christina Whitney, 1552 Meridian Road Magnolia, IL, 61336 by July 1.

Marshall-Putnam Fair book available online
Those looking to begin planning their exhibition entries for the 102nd annual Marshall-Putnam Fair can view the non-livestock departments of the fair book online now at www.marshallputnamfair.org. Livestock departments are coming soon.
Junior exhibitors must be between age 8 and 21 by Sept. 1 and Peewee exhibitors must be between 4 and 7 by Sept. 1.
Entry forms must be brought to the office by July 1 or postmarked by this date. Those without access to the internet, may request the needed information from the Marshall-Putnam Fair Office.
Regular office hours are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Marshall-Putnam “Galaxy-AFair” will be July 12-16.
