Crews respond to fire at Marquis Energy in Hennepin IVCC scholarship deadline approaching

Students planning to attend Illinois Valley Community College this fall can apply for IVCC Foundation scholarships online by Thursday, Feb. 9.

Current students, high school seniors and anyone planning to enroll in fall or spring 2023-24 courses is welcome to apply for more than 200 foundation awards.

The online application is available at ivcc.edu/scholarships. Applicants must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid at studentaid. gov.

Scholarships range in value from $500 to $4,500. In fiscal 2023, more than $415,000 in scholarships were awarded.

Scholarships are available in specific disciplines ranging from agriculture and automotive to manufacturing and welding. There are about 50 “open” scholarships available to students in any course of study.

Multiple fire departments responded to a fire at Marquis Energy LLC outside Hennepin around 11:30 a.m. Saturday. The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System was activated. Fire departments from Hennepin, Oglesby, Princeton, Standard, Peru, Granville and Bureau those that responded. At about 1 p.m., fire departments and emergency vehicles were seen leaving the scene. Bald eagles fly around Starved Rock Lock and Dam

Did you miss eagle weekend at Starved Rock? No worries. The bald eagles are here to stay. The bald eagles flew Tuesday over the Illinois River at the Starved Rock Lock and Dam near Utica. A countless number of eagles can be spotted at the lock and dam and Plum Island during the winter months.
