Happy 200th, Hennepin!

PCR photo/Dave Cook

To help return Hennepin to the 1800s for their bicentennial celebrations, the Spirit of Peoria was docked in the village early Sunday morning. Pictured are parishioners of the Hennepin United Methodist Church boarding the classically-styled riverboat prior to their morning service. Later in the morning, local students took an educational trip upriver and there were also two sight-seeing tours and a dinner cruise. Funds are finally flowing

GRANVILLE — After years of keeping schools on the edge of financial insecurity, the passage of a state budget and a new educational funding formula by the state legislature is finally relieving some of the pressure. While no mandated funds have begun flowing yet and a substantial amount remains due from last fiscal year, Put-

nam County Superintendent Carl Carlson reported during the Sept. 18 school board meeting that the district has begun to receive other payments from the state. Currently the amount owed to the Putnam County School District from last fiscal year totals $332,025.07. The bulk of that is owed for transportation and special education, with each fund owed more than $132,000.
