On Sept. 19 in Hennepin, the 10th Judicial Circuit Family Violence Coordinating Council hosted the “Hands Around the Courthouse” event to increase awareness of the children in the local court system. These are children who have suffered from trauma, neglect, abuse and poor parental choices through no fault of their own. Judge James A. Mack said this was “a call to action” to help the approximately 1,700 children involved. Members of Freedom House, the Youth Service Bureau of the Illinois Valley and the Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children (CASA) discussed their services and their need for additional help and volunteers. The group was welcomed by Hennepin Village President Kevin Coleman, and Pastor Brian Gonet of the Putnam County Community Church also spoke. He closed the gathering with a prayer that called for the Silhouettes represented children who have community to provide additional help to these children in need. been killed.
