An uncertain future assigned to schools

No state funds released until legislators do something BY DAVE COOK news@putnamcountyrecord.com GRANVILLE — The Putnam County School Board approved the tentative budget for the school district for the upcoming fiscal year and it will be on display for the next 30 days. But, Superintendent Carl Carlson described the act of trying to create an accurate budget during the state’s current financial mess as “trying to predict the unpredictable.”

He said while the district had received its third mandated payment from the state for last fiscal year, he added he was unsure of when, or even if, the final payment would be made. The state currently owes the district more than $294,000 from the last school year. Carlson also reported that though the state passed a budget, there was still no legislative mechanism in place to release
