‘It’s a real blow to our area’

The announcement of the impending closure of the Hennepin Power Plant, seen from a distance, will impact not only Hennepin and the rest of Putnam County, but much of the Illinois Valley. Vistra Energy announced Aug. 21 the 294-megawatt plant, in operation for 66 years, would cease operations, likely by the end of the year, causing the loss of about 60 jobs. “This is sad news, it’s a real blow to our area, and I’m worried about their employees,” Hennepin Village President Kevin Coleman said.
