Details of Andersen’s financial relationship with victim shared Video evidence not allowed yet because of time-stamp differences

BY DAVE COOK news@putnamcountyrecord.com HENNEPIN — Attorneys for Clifford A. Andersen Jr. argued against the admission of certain financial and video evidence during the murder suspect’s hearing on Monday morning in Putnam County Circuit Court.

Andersen, 67, of Standard is charged with killing his sister-in-law, Deborah Dewey, and concealing her body. Dewey, 62, of Ladd was reported missing in August Debra 2016.

Dewey Her body was found on Sept. 12, 2016, in a shallow grave in a yard of a Standard home for which Andersen was caretaker.

Police were alerted to the property following an interview with a person who had knowledge about the case. One day after Dewey’s body was found in Standard, police arrested Andersen.

Andersen’s lawyers, Drew Parker and his son, Robert Parker, of Peoria’s Parker and Parker Law Firm, argued a piece of paper found in Dewey’s apartment is “obtuse and confusing” and should not be admitted as evidence because it doesn’t add up to a motive.

The note has an amount of $620 written next to the name “Skip,” a known nickname of Andersen, according to the prosecution.

eral Bill Elward agreed that, by itself, the note may appear “to be cryptic,” but he argued it showed Dewey kept meticulous track of her financial transactions, and that when Clifford included with both Andersen Jr. her and Andersen’s banking and financial transaction records, the note would be shown to be relevant.

Judge Stephen Kouri ruled the note would not be allowed unless the prosecution could show a connection between the amounts written on the note in question and the banking records.

The defense hadn’t argued against the admission of banking records. Elward also read the details of a series checks totaling thousands of dollars that had been made out to Andersen. He also said Andersen had intimate knowledge of Dewey’s financial situation.

“There was an ongoing financial relationship between the victim and the defendant which ended violently,” Elward said.

Andersen was said to have gained knowledge of Dewey’s financial situation when he helped her while she was going through her divorce.

Elward also said the money Dewey lent Andersen was from her individual retirement account, and that it was used to try to pay off a series of high-interest loans he’d taken out and was having trouble

paying back.

There were also multiple phone calls made between Dewey and Andersen on the day of her disappearance.

The video evidence in question was from surveillance cameras at the truck stop where Dewey’s car was found. The time stamps on two videos were both inaccurate in different ways, and Kouri said he wanted to hear testimony from the investigating officer before allowing it as evidence.

The prosecution argued that when the time stamps were adjusted and compared with Andersen’s phone records, they show Andersen parking Dewey’s car and then walking into the truck stop where he was to be picked up by a friend to be taken back to his car at a different location.

Elward also detailed how many lies Andersen and his friend, who will be called as a witness for the prosecution, told investigators about that day, saying Andersen asked his friend to lie and not say they had been in Morris. The friend initially complied, but later recanted his statement to investigators.

“Why doesn’t he want anyone to know he was in Morris? Because he was dropping off the victim’s car,” Elward said.

The hearing was recessed until the next day so the prosecution and defense teams could work on jury questionnaires.

The Hennepin Village Board awarded the Adam and Ida Deck Scholarships during its April 18 meeting. The first-place recipient was Emma Cyr, daughter of Christian and Jamie Cyr. The scholarship will provide her with $1,200 each year for four years. The second-place recipient is Cameron Colby, son of Julie and Dane Colby. He will receive $1,000 each year for four years. These scholarships are subsidized through proceeds from the Adam and Ida Deck Scholarship Fund and are awarded on the basis of scholastic ability.

HENNEPIN Special education meeting scheduled for May 21 HENNEPIN — On Monday, May 21, a meeting conducted by Putnam County Community Unit School District 535 will take place at Putnam County Elementary School in Hennepin.

The purpose of the meeting be to discuss the district’s plans for providing special education services to students with disabilities who attend private

schools and home schools within the district for the 2018-19 school year.

GRANVILLE — It’s been a long time coming, but the wait is almost over, Granville.

The McCoy Street project is scheduled to begin next week on either May 15 or 16, Village President Jared Baker reported at the May 1 village board meeting.

The major reconstruction project, which also includes the reconfiguration Jared Baker of the street’s curbGranville side stairs, as well as village improvements to sevpresident eral other areas, was initially estimated to cost the village $550,000.

However, LaSalle’s Universal Asphalt & Excavating made a bid of $368,231 and was willing to extend the reach of the project because of the difference. The board approved the addition of a $35,000 extension to Silverspoon Avenue during its April 17 meeting.

“We’ll also be planning to improve the driveway entrance to the alley that runs to the west between Main Street and Front Street so it’s not so steep,” Village Engineer Mike Richetta, of Chamlin & Associates, said at that time.

Richetta also said the plan is to work on one side of the street at a time so interruptions to businesses along the street will be limited, and they’ll be notified week to week so they’ll know what to expect at the project progresses.

Paving, however, will be done in its entirety so there are no seams in the work.

The project is expected to be completed in time for Granville’s annual cruise-in event on Aug. 3.

Public works Public Works Superintendent Sheli Starkey reported the planting of the final 17 trees of the 60 that were funded through a grant last fall. They’ll be watered three times a week for the next month.

Starkey also said cold patch had been applied to the various damaged areas of village streets and that the yard waste bin had been cleaned.

Hydrants are being flushed this week, and Starkey said that repairs are scheduled for the hydrant located near Big Shots on Harrison Street, as well as the hydrant near Putnam County High School. That hydrant has a damaged top, and the repair will be made after school is out for the summer.

Putnam County will soon be the newest home to Little Free Libraries

BY DAVE COOK news@putnamcountyrecord.com HENNEPIN — Libraries are hubs of their communities, a place where residents gather to learn, make connections, share ideas, or simply pick out a good book.

Residents of rural areas, however, may have a challenge getting to a library, but the Putnam County Library District has taken steps to assist them by joining the Little Free Library movement.

“This will be a great outreach for Putnam County, and it will give our residents a better chance to get quality books they may not normally have access to,” Librarian Matt Miller said.

Little Free Libraries is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping communities engage with their “take a book, leave a book” free book exchanges. While they’re generally small wooden boxes that are found in a variety of locations, stewards often use a surprising amount of creativity when building or decorating their Little Free Libraries.

What started as a small, local project in Wisconsin, has since grown into a movement that includes more than 60,000 Little Free Libraries in more than 80 countries.

Nearby Princeton embraced the Little Free Libraries a few years ago after co-founder Rick Brooks retired to the community, and they’ve proved very popular with residents of all ages.

Many residents often work in visits to several during their evening walks.

Miller said the county’s five new Little Free Libraries have been funded through a grant and community donations, and their construction has been undertaken by the Putnam County High School FFA class. Each library will require a steward to care for its overall condition and to monitor and maintain the collection within.

GEORGIA STEHL PETERSBURG, Fla. — Georgia Ann Stehl of St. Petersburg, Fla., formerly of Granville, passed away Thursday, April 26, 2018, in St. Petersburg, Fla. She was born in Granville on Jan. 2, 1936, to Wilmer and Elizabeth (Pletsch) Stehl.

She attended Hopkins High School and graduated from Illinois State University.

She taught one year in Tonica and then become a home economics teacher at Chamberlain High School in Tampa, Fla. She enjoyed fishing, boating, traveling, soccer and watching the Chicago Cubs.

She is survived by one nephew, Bruce (Dora) Kneebone; a niece-in-law, Pam (Randi) Kneebone; five great-nieces and great-nephews, Damian, Ashley, Andy, Megan and Haleigh; and six great-great-nieces and greatgreat-nephews, Melodie, Madisen, Alyvia, Grayson, MacKenzie and Maci.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Wilma Kneebone; her brother-in-law, Ralph Kneebone; one nephew, Randi Kneebone; and her longtime partner, Aston Buckley.

Private services will be held at Abby Affordable Cremation and Funeral Services in Largo, Fla., on Saturday, May 12.

Library website, three out of four people report they’ve read a book they normally wouldn’t have read because of a Little Free Library. Seventy-three percent also say they’ve met more of their neighbors because of a little library, and 92 percent say their neighborhood feels like a friendlier place because of the addition of an Little Free Library.

In addition, up to 61 percent of low-income families report they don’t have any books for their children at home, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

Currently, one is scheduled to be installed at Lake Thunderbird, but stewards and locations are still being sought for the others.

The hope is that some will be installed in rural areas where residents may not have easy access to reading materials. Little Free Libraries also often result in an increased connection with neighbors.

“LFLs can help bridge the gap when traditional access to books isn’t available. In rural areas, for example, public libraries can use LFLs to reach farther into the community. We currently work with more than 600 public libraries across the country who use them for community outreach,” Margret Aldrich, of the Little Free Library organization and author of “The Little Free Library Book,” said.

Brooks added the book exchanges also frequently lead to the creation of a variety of additional and socially beneficial events such as inter-generational reading programs and book clubs.

Anyone may contribute or take books from a Little Free Library.

If you take a book from one, you don’t have to return that exact book.

However, in order to keep them stocked with a variety of choices for the whole community, people are encouraged to add a book of their own to share. In other words, they work on the honor system; everyone contributes, and everyone benefits.

State must ease burden on property owners The governor, his opponent in November, and all state lawmakers must make it a priority to make dramatic changes to the way we fund public schools in Illinois. The status quo is untenable.

P

roperty owners in Illinois are paying some of the country’s highest property tax rates, and they are doing it largely to support public schools, which account for about two-thirds of local tax bills.

Complaints about property tax rates are nothing new in Illinois, but the Great Recession and the devastating effect it had on property values have made the situation untenable. In response to property value declines around the state, property tax rates simply went up.

Tax cap laws, designed to protect homeowners in a time of value inflation, left them exposed when values tanked.

Changing this should be at the top of the legislative agenda in Springfield. Gov. Bruce Rauner has proposed a property tax freeze, giving residents the power to reduce

their taxes through a popular vote, and a proposal to change pension payouts.

His Democratic opponent, J.B. Pritzker, backs a shift to a graduated income tax, which would require a constitutional amendment. In the interim, he proposes increasing the state’s flat tax rate – now at 4.95 percent – and boosting credits and deductions for lower-income earners.

We favor solutions that will not impose new taxes on our citizens and will offer them some relief.

There is waste in state government — consider the more than $1.1 billion Illinois has paid in late-payment fees since July 2015.

Legislators in the Illinois House last month did approve a proposal that would require the starting salary for full-time public school teachers be at least $40,000 a year beginning with the 2019-20 school

year. They did not make any accommodation for school districts that might not already meet this minimum, though.

The change could lead to consolidation of school districts, higher property taxes, or both. Too often, lawmakers issue decrees and leave it to the folks back home to figure out how to afford them.

Teachers are not shutting down our schools the way they have in several other states this spring.

Illinois teachers are among the best-paid in the Midwest, earning an average salary of $61,342 a year, according to a 2017 report from the National Education Association.

Only Michigan paid its teachers marginally more a year on average.

The way we finance our schools, however, places an undue burden on people with lesser means to pay and creates unequal access to

education around Illinois. It also creates barriers to attracting and retaining businesses.

Quality schools are a must for Illinois children — all of them.

Reducing school property tax rates is the only way to make any significant change in the burden on homeowners. The urgency is enhanced by changes to federal tax law that cap deductions for state and local taxes at $10,000. The quiet wisdom of a civil mom It’s important to be nice, not to denigrate others

M

y best editor was my mother.

She operated on the axiom, “It’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice.”

Time after time, she’d call me after reading a particularly disagreeable column and let me know what she thought.

She didn’t like name-calling.

She’d say, “Criticize what people do, but don’t criticize them as human beings.”

Time after time, her quiet wisdom would save me from myself.

Eventually, I wised up and let her read my stories and columns before they ran in the newspaper.

When I wanted to joke about how homely a particular Illinois politician was, she told me to knock it off.

When rumors about a congressman’s sexual orientation swirled about, she shrugged and said, “Who cares?”

Mom was about civility.

In the age of Donald Trump, such notions seem, well, quaint.

Unfortunately, some, when they hear Trump’s rhetoric, view it as a green light to be nasty themselves.

A good case in point is Michelle Wolf’s monologue at the White House Correspondents Association dinner. During her diatribe, she denigrated White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ appearance.

If that weren’t bad enough, she said the president’s daughter, Ivanka Trump, was “as helpful to women as an empty box of tampons.”

Her comments were mean-spirited, personal and not particularly funny.

Trump supporters were angry.

Well, pot meet kettle.

As National Review noted: “Donald Trump also really likes to make fun of people. On the campaign trail, he referred to Marco Rubio as ‘Little Marco’ and Jeb Bush as ‘low-energy Jeb.’ During a debate, he readily agreed that he’d compare Rosie O’Donnell to a ‘fat pig,’ ‘slob,’ ‘dog,’ and ‘disgusting animal.’ He mocked Carly Fiorina, saying ‘Look at that face!

Would anyone vote for that?’

During his presidency, he made fun of Mika Brzezinski, saying he once saw her ‘bleeding badly from a face-lift.’”

If you find yourself angered by Wolf’s remarks, step back and ask yourself if Trump’s comments offend you? If not, why not?

When Trump insults others, his opponents cry, “foul!” And his supporters say, “He’s just joking.”

When Michelle Wolf denigrates Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Trumpsters growl and liberals say, “Can’t you take a joke?”

The problem is a general coarsening of the political dialogue.

When one side goes low, the other thinks it’s a green light to go lower. It’s a recipe for continued discord.

By doing so, this group, which prides itself as a neutral judge of facts, lowered itself. It’s pretty hard to criticize Trump’s periodic denigrations when a group you belong to has sponsored the same type of rhetoric.

As my mother used to say, “Two wrongs don’t make a right.”

Putnam County 7, Peoria Christian 1 Luke Olson went 3-3 at the plate while Max Huffstodt went 2-4 to drive in two runs in the 7-1 win on May 3.

Logan Kreiser also had two hits. Luke Carlson was the winning pitcher, striking out 11 and allowing one hit.

Putnam County 12, Midland 3 Dan Sabotta had a triple and a homer to lead the Panthers’ attack in a 12-3 win over Midland on May 2.

Caleb Dzierzynski doubled and drove in a run for the Panthers while also tossing a complete game. He allowed four hits while striking out 11 batters and walking one. Nolan Whitney doubled and drove in one run while Logan Kreiser also had an RBI.

Lady Panthers win three games The Putnam County Lady Panthers won three games played last week.

Putnam County 6, Fieldcrest 0 Alivia Resurreccion allowed two hits in seven innings in the 6-0 win over Fieldcrest on May 5. She struck out seven batters. Olivia Holmes drove in two.

Putnam County 4, Hall 3 The Lady Panthers scored all of their game’s runs in the first inning against Hall in a 4-3 win on May 2. Olivia Holmes, Skylar Grevengoed, and Resurreccion had RBI doubles. Alivia Resurreccion pitched all seven innings for the win, notching eight strike outs and allowing only seven hits.

Putnam County 7, Peoria Christian 1 Haley Cioni was the winning pitcher as the Lady Panthers beat Peoria Christian 7-1 on May 1. Cioni allowed five hits over seven innings, striking out six and walking four. Olivia Holmes and Alivia Resurreccion both had two hits each. Putnam County scored one run in the first, three in the third, two in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Boys team places third at Hall SPRING VALLEY — Putnam County boys track team placed third with 40 points in a quadrangular at Hall on May 1.

Second-place finishers were Mike Dzierzynski in the 400 meter dash in 57.00; the 4x100 meter relay team of Sami Khouaja, Alex Judd, Kyle Lawless and Nolyn Thompson in 53.37; and the 4x200 meter relay team of Sami Khouaja, Alex Judd, Kyle Lawless and Nolyn Thompson in 1:59.59.

Third-place finishers were the 4x800 meter relay team of Ian Woitynek, Wesley Grimshaw, Joshua Mattingly and Mike Dzierzynski in 11:11.12; Ian Woitynek in the long jump with a leap of 17-05; and Kaleb Wright in the discus with a throw of 1119-06.5.

At last, we are counting down to ZERO. Together, Toget ogether, we e can end Polio -- now, and forever! ver! er!

Last fall, Putnam County Rotary was awarded a District 6420 Community Grant entitled, “A 20th Century Polio Story Educating 21st Century Students”, to promote literacy and educate the PCJH 8th grade students about Rotary International Polio Plus Campaign to eliminate Polio worldwide and to teach the students about the life altering effects on children and adults afflicted with the disease.

8th grade Interact students helped kick off the grant project by marching and taking part in the decorating of Putnam County Rotary’s “End Polio Now” float entry at the Hennepin 200th Celebration, which won the Best Theme award.

At the program presented by Rotarians who told their stories about polio survivors, all 8th grade students were given a copy of the book, “Small Steps, The Year I Got Polio”,

by Peg Kehert, which they were asked to read and either write an essay or create a poster sharing what they learned.

Rotarian Adriane Shore told of her Mother’s strength as a polio survivor. President Debbie Buffington told the students her first grade memories of Mr. Delmo Marchesei, Principal at Standard Grade School who was a polio survivor. Debbie told the st students what makes her think about polio isn’t the scar on her arm from the vaccination, but the memory of the clicking sound of the braces worn by Mr. Marchesi as he went up and down the stairs of th the school each school day. Writing the grant was Debbie’s way of co combining the Rotary Polio plus campaign and honoring the memory an and perseverance of Mr. Marchesi as he overcame not just the horror of getting polio as a child, but that he survived and taught all who kn knew him the strength and courage it took to overcome and recover from adversity.

The winning poster winner, Fersese Zulbeari said what stuck with he her the most “were the changes that could happen in your life from on one day to the next, being able to walk one day and then not able to wa walk the next.” Essay winner Katlyn Coan, said “she feels bad some WINNERS kids had to live in the iron lung forever. And how a simple milkshake ki Katlyn Coan, Essay | Ferdese Zulbeari, Poster helped one boy as he struggled to survive, but didn’t help others.

All Moms are special. Mine was extraordinary. It wasn’t really until I was in 3rd grade that I was aware that my Mom faced challenges to do things others took for granted. We had gotten a second car, and she needed a specially made pedal to drive. I remember it coming in the mail. My sisters, brother and I knew she had been stricken by polio when she was three years old, but until then, we never saw the difference in her legs as being a handicap.

It wasn’t until we were older that we learned why, as children, our parents made us take naps on hot summer days, and why we were not allowed to swim in public pools. There had been another outbreak of polio in the early 1950s and our parents lived with the worry that we might be exposed to the same kind of virus.

My Mother was fortunate to have received treatment and physical therapy in her youth, but dealt with the effects all of her life, including post-polio syndrome in her later years. Even so, she never accepted her handicap as a disability. I admire my Mother, still, for her grit and determination to live life to its fullest.

Hennepin Park District will offer Red Cross swimming lessons The Hennepin Park District is having 3 sessions of Red Cross Swimming Lessons this summer.

Each session will be two weeks long.

There will still be 6 levels of swimming abilities.

Level 1 is the beginning class, and participants must be 5 years old

by Sept. 1 and be at least 42 inches tall in order to enroll. The morning sessions will run 40-minute classes, Monday through Friday. The night sessions will run 50-minute classes, Monday through Thursday. The sessions are as follows: Session 1: June 11-22 — 9 to 9:40 a.m., 9:50 to 10:30 a.m., and 10:40 to 11:20 a.m.

Session 2: July 9-20 — 9 to 9:40 a.m., 9:50 to 10:30 a.m., and 10:40 to 11:20 a.m.

Session 3: July 23-Aug. 2 — 5 to 5:50 p.m., and 6 to 6:50 p.m.

The Hennepin Park District will also be offering preschool aquatics

again this year. This class for children ages 3 to 5 will be held July 9-20 from 11:30 a.m. to noon. Space is limited. The cost for this class is free for Hennepin/Hennepin Township and $33 per child for all other areas.

Registration for these sessions will begin at noon Saturday, May 12. You must come in person to register at the Hennepin Pool. AWARD WINNER ORMSTOWN, Quebec, Canada — The International Federation of Agricultural Journalists (IFAJ) announced the recipients of the 2018 IFAJ/Alltech Young Leaders in Agricultural Journalism Award.

This year’s program, sponsored by Alltech, honors 10 young agricultural journalists and communicators who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in reporting as well as excellent potential as leaders of the industry in the years to come. The honorees were chosen by an international jury among applicants from many of IFAJ’s 43 member countries.

This year’s IFAJ/Alltech Young Leaders include Katie Knapp, The Ag Photographer, originally from Magnolia.

“My father, Dr. Pearse Lyons, loved talking to journalists and admired their ability to tell stories, particularly the stories within agriculture. He also understood the great importance of mentorship and education in his own life, which is why he was always a strong supporter of the IFAJ/Alltech Young Leaders. This program is a perfect example of how bringing education and journalism together can cultivate passionate communicators within agriculture. The 10 honorees will attend the 2018 IFAJ Congress in Wageningen, The Netherlands, in July.

The Young Leaders will also participate in a Boot Camp in the days prior to Congress, which includes professional development and networking workshops and farm visits in the Wageningen area.

“Over the past 12 years, we have seen IFAJ/Alltech Young Leaders excel in their careers and help strengthen our industry,” said Steve Werblow, IFAJ secretary general.

“They go home and bring their energy and skills to help their guilds, and many alumni of this program have taken leadership roles within IFAJ. We are grateful to Alltech for its long commitment to the future of agricultural journalism, and grateful to these enthusiastic young colleagues for their contributions — now and in the years to come.”

IV Leader earns numerous state awards at spring conference OGLESBY — For the second straight year, IV Leader, the student newspaper at Illinois Valley Community College, was awarded the Mike Foster Award for General Excellence, the highest award presented, at the Illinois Community College Journalism Association annual spring conference.

“Wow. Tons of local content relevant to your campus,” the judges commented. “All of it was interesting. Paper is well-designed. Great job.”

Sophomore Martha Hoffman of Earlville serves as editor-in-chief for IV Leader.

Student newspapers from across the state can earn recognition at the conference hosted this year by Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield. Some contest categories are based on enrollment while others are open to all newspapers.

In addition to winning first place for general excellence in Division II, IV Leader won first place for news story for its coverage of the tornado that hit Naplate and Ottawa.

“Nice job covering a major news event,” the judge said. “Your cover-

age was thorough and compelling.”

In the open division, IV Leader received awards for multimedia story, reporter of the year and graphics.

OGLESBY — Conductor Lucia Matos will lead the Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra in its 2017-18 season finale at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at the Mary Margaret Weeg Cultural Centre at Illinois Valley Community College in Oglesby.

The concert will feature music by Brahms and Rachmaninoff and will mark the final appearance of the popular conductor with the IVSO. A reception honoring Lucia Matos and the evening’s soloist will follow the concert in room CTC 124, hosted by the IVS Guild and IVSO Board.

Featured soloist Kam-Lung Cheng will perform the Brahms Concerto for Violin in D Major, considered by some to be the greatest of all violin concertos.

Cheng was born is Beijing, China, to a musical family. He began his violin study at the age of 7 with his father, a violin professor at the Central Conservatory of Music of China. His family later emigrated to Hong Kong, where he made his first television appearance. He received his diploma from the University of Freiburg in Germany and was then invited by Yehudi Menuhin to attend the International Menuhin Music Academy in Gstaad, Switzer-

land, where he studied with Yehudi Menuhin himself. He received his solo and chamber music diploma from Utrecht Conservatory in 1987.

He then made a successful appearance on Dutch television playing the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto and giving a recital at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. In 2017 he was appointed Concertmaster of the Amsterdam Symphony Orchestra. Since 2007 he has appeared frequently as a soloist on Chinese music stages. He has been serving as guest conductor and soloist for several major orchestras in China, including those of Tianjim and Sichuan.

The concert program will include “The Isle of the Dead” by Rachmaninoff. This haunting piece was inspired by Arnold Böcklin’s painting “Isle of the Dead,” which Rachmaninoff saw in Paris in 1907. The orchestra will also perform Sibelius’s “Valse Romantique,” which was composed in 1911 as the second part of a two-set suite. The sentimental waltz is chromatic and rhythmic.

Kid’s Free Fishing Expo is May 19 PERU — The 20th annual Kid’s Free Fishing Expo will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, at Baker Lake in Peru.

Free food, games, drinks and snacks will be available at the event featuring a free beginning fishing “how-to” clinic for boys and girls ages 6 and up. Sessions will start every 15 minutes.

Other activities include free fishing games with prizes, casting games, and live fish displays. Bait will be provided.

Learn to cast, tie a knot, bait a hook, tie a fly, identify a catch, clean a fish and more.

Free fishing literature and door prizes will

be awarded. A limited number of fishing poles will be available for loan.

Baker Lake is located on Airport Road in Peru, north of Shooting Park Road and one-half mile south of Wenzel Road.

The event is sponsored by the Better Fishing Association of Northern Illinois, Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Illinois Valley Sunrise Rotary Club and the LaSalle Rotary Club in association with the cities of Peru, LaSalle and the Peru Rescue Squad.
