72-hour Waiting Period: Creates a 72-hour waiting period on all firearms, not just handguns. The bill also eliminates the current exemption from the waiting period requirements for the sale of a firearm to a nonresident of Illinois while at a recognized gun show.

The bill retains the current 24-hour withholding period for stun guns and tasers. A violation of this provision would be a Class 4 felony. The bill also eliminates the current statutory exemption from the waiting period requirements for the sale of a firearm to a nonresident of Illinois while at an official gun show recognized by the State Police.

Firearms Restraining Order: Allows family members or law enforcement to petition the court for an ex parte order alleging the respondent poses significant danger of causing personal injury to himself/herself or another by having in his/her custody or control, owning, purchasing, possessing or receiving a firearm. The court may issue this order without notice to the respondent, but a hearing must be held as soon as possible and not to exceed 14 days. Allows for two types of orders: ex-parte/emergency (probable cause) and six-month orders (clear and convincing). Allows the court to issue search warrants (even in cases where the petitioner is a family member) to law enforcement to seize the weapons if there’s probable cause to believe the respondent possesses weapons.

Missing High-Risk Military Person: Adds veterans and active-duty members of the reserves and Armed Forces believed to have physical or mental health issues, related to service, to the definition of “high-risk missing person.”

Medical Records for Homeless Vets: Mandates health care facilities and practitioners provide a free copy of a homeless veteran’s medical records if the records are being requested by either the veteran or

an authorized person, entity, or organization for the purpose of supporting a claim for veterans’ disability benefits.

Controlled-Substance Prescribers Continuing Ed: Requires licensed prescribers of controlled substances to complete three hours of continuing education on safe opioid-prescribing practices prior to renewing their prescription license. They can count continuing-education hours offered by an accredited professional association, a state agency, a federal agency or hours used to meet the licensing requirements of other states toward this requirement.

Emergency Opioid and Addiction Treatment Access: Specifies insurance companies/MCOs can’t require prior notification of specified inpatient and outpatient substance-use-disorder treatment. It establishes procedures for insurance companies to terminate coverage of substance-use-disorder treatment. It provides for discharge notifications to be provided to insurance companies.

Division of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Rewrite: Makes changes to provide the foundation for subsequent policies and rules enhancing and supportive of efforts to combat the opioid epidemic and other substance use disorders. The resultant changes are created for medical and community-based organizations providing intervention and treatment.

Managed care organizations and primary care providers need clear guidance on when licensure is required, and this will help ensure a standardized approach to intervention and treatment.

Human Trafficking Notice Requirements: Adds the following to the list of establishments required to post notice under the Human Trafficking Resource Center Notice Act: massage establishments; public gatherings and special events conducted on property open to the public that require the issuance of a permit from the unit of local government; public and private elementary and secondary schools; and establishments registered under the Tattoo and Body Piercing Establishment

Registration Act. Provides that a business or establishment that fails to comply with the act is guilty of a petty offense, and subject to a fine of up to $500 for each violation instead of liable for a civil penalty of $500 for a first offense and $1,000 for each subsequent offense.

Human Trafficking Lawsuits: Allows human trafficking survivors to bring a civil cause of action against traffickers under existing law. Allows family members, victim advocates, a court appointee or a government entity responsible for enforcing the laws of Illinois to bring an action on behalf of a victim.

Human Trafficking Victim Compensation: Adds the crime of human trafficking to the section of the act that allows for a longer reporting time frame for more vulnerable victims of crime, as it currently does for survivors of sexual assault.

Trafficking victims are eligible for compensation if they are engaged in a legal proceeding involving a claim that the victim is a victim of human trafficking.

Dual Credits: Provides that qualified students can do the following: enroll in an unlimited amount of dual credit courses; and earn an unlimited amount of academic credits from dual credit courses so long as the course is taught by an Illinois instructor as provided under the Dual Credit Quality Act. Blaze Pink: Provides that hunters may wear blaze pink during firearm deer season and upland game season.

Rear-Facing Car Seat: Requires children under the age of two to be secured in a rear-facing child-restraint system. Children weighing more than 40 pounds or taller than 40 inches are exempted.

Back-Up Vehicular Lights: Provides that a back-up lamp on a motor vehicle must emit a white or amber light without glare.

Route 66 Centennial Commission: Creates a 20-member Route 66 Centennial Commission to coordinate commemorative events to celebrate 100 years of Route 66.

Granville lights help fill the pantry

G

ranville resident Mike Bertalot has continued his generous tradition of creating a spectacular display of Christmas lights to benefit the Putnam County Food Pantry. Spectators are encouraged to drop food donations in the boxes at the edge of his property and then tune their radios to a specific frequency to enjoy the musically-synchronized and multicolored displays. Bertalot said on Dec. 26 that the food donations had reached approximately 450 pounds and that he’d also received an additional $500.

“He has a passion for this, and I’m always surprised at how much food he’s able to collect,” John Shimkus, of the Putnam County Food Pantry, said of Bertalot.

Metal detector group members look for, find hidden items

BY CHARLES STANLEY For Shaw Media If you’re seeking the gift for the person who wants to find everything, consider a metal detector.

“I’d have to compare metal detecting to finding a $20 in your pocket when you do laundry,” said Kevin Barkley, of Dalzell. “It’s about the same thing. You never know what you’re going to find until you try to look for it.”

Barkley is a charter member of the Illinois Valley Historical Research and Recovery Association, which now has more than 100 members.

The club meets monthly and, when possible, holds a club hunt twice a month.

“It’s a whole world of opportunity,” said Barkley, who has been doing metal detecting for close to 30 years.

Besides old metal toys, tags, tokens and buttons, there have been plenty of coins, some dating back more than a century.

Barkley said he annually recovers about 2,000 coins. Typically each year, about 70 of them are silver, but this year the number of silver coins has topped 100.

A good metal detector is the key piece of equipment. They can cost from $200 to $800 depending on their features and sensitivity to different kinds of metal.

“Discrimination is the key to all these machines,” Barkley said.

Older models require tuning, but the latest models with sophisticated microprocessor are “turn on and go,” he said.

Barkley cautions against buying bargain metal detectors.

“A $50 metal detector will frustrate you beyond belief,” Barkley said. “You will dig everything — and probably still not come with anything good. Anybody interested in buying a detector should do some homework before they buy it.”

Finding a good place to explore is the other important element of metal treasure hunting.

Typically, Barkley said, when a property owner is asked, they likely will give permission for their grounds to be hunted, although some will not.

said. “Most of the people are pretty open to allowing it.”

Public parks are another source of buried treasures, although local laws should be checked to make sure they can be explored.

“Starved Rock State Park is 100 percent off limits,” he cautioned.

One of Barkley’s personal favorite places to hunt is an old private picnic g rove. It doesn’t matter that he goes every year. Weather conditions will change the positions of metal items underground. Additionally, upgraded equipment also may detect items

missed in past years.

Some of what club members do is public service work. They may help find metal pins that establish land boundaries. Others will assist in locating a lost ring or keys dropped in a snowbank.

Barkley has found two class rings, one of which he was able to return to a graduate of St. Bede Academy, which is near his home.

A favorite find of Barkley’s was an old copper bell missing its clapper he found on a farm near Granville.

He brought it to the farm owner, an elderly wheelchair-bound lady.

“She almost broke into tears,” B a rk l e y re c a l l e d . “ S h e s a i d , ‘That’s the bell my mom used to ring when it was time for us to come in to eat.’ “ The woman insisted Barkley keep the bell, but he refused. When she passed, a note was discovered on top of the bell instructing for it be given to him after she died.

“It is a very special piece in my collection,” Barkley said.

Sept. 5 Putnam County State’s Attorney Christina Judd-Mennie adds three counts of murder to the charges against Richard Henderson, 26, of Standard. Henderson is suspected of killing 16-year-old Diamond Bradley, of Spring Valley, and leaving her body along a rural Putnam County road.

Sept. 12 Public defender Roger Bolin successfully gets Richard Henderson’s Class 3 felony charge of concealment of a homicidal death dropped during a status hearing. Bolin argued the 120-day limit of the Speedy Trial Act has been exceeded, and Putnam County State’s Attorney Christina Judd-Mennie agrees to drop the charge to focus on the recently filed murder charges.

Sept. 19 Richard A. Henderson, accused of the January killing of a Bureau County teen, announces in court he’s decided to waive his right to a jury trial. He’ll instead face the decision of a lone judge during his trial, scheduled to begin Dec. 17. Henderson was taken into custody on Feb. 5 after investigators linked him to Diamond Bradley through interviews, surveillance footage, and cell phone data.

Putnam County enters a class action lawsuit against opioid manufacturers.

Sept. 26 The Putnam County School District reports the flow of state funding is much improved with the new evidence-based funding formula, although it’s still owed more than $200,000.

The Putnam County High School FFA’s annual Trick-or-Treat Food Drive, now in its sixth year, collects enough food to fill the beds of three pickup trucks, and the group also

collected $200 in donations for the Putnam County Food Pantry.

Nov. 7 Convicted murderer Clifford A. Andersen files an appeal to the Appellate Court in Ottawa. Andersen, 68, of Standard, was sentenced Aug. 24 to 60 years in prison for the murder of his sister-in-law, Deborah Dewey, of Ladd. He also was found guilty of concealment of a homicidal death during his two-week trial in July and received an additional concurrent sentence of five years in prison for that crime.

Nov. 14 While it was expected that Public Defender Roger Bolin would file motions in Putnam County Court for the upcoming bench trial of Richard A. Henderson for the murder of 16 year-old Diamond Bradley, the plea deal sentencing Henderson to 53 years in prison was a surprise.

Putnam County voters overwhelmingly vote against a proposed tax increase. Slightly more than three-fourths of voters (75.22 percent) chose “No” on their ballots in regard to a proposition to increase the current corporate tax rate of .37 percent to .67 percent.

Nov. 21 T he Putnam County Board approves the zoning for a community solar garden project.

The Putnam County Board also approves budget cuts to youth programs and the senior center.

Nov. 28 During a heated meeting, the Putnam County Board’s Finance Com-

mittee faces a significant budget deficit for the upcoming year.

Dec. 5 With declining revenues, depleted funds, limited levy increases and a defeated referendum, the Putnam County Board is unable to overcome a $428,427 deficit, but Putnam County Board Chairman Steve Malavolti says they’re “on the right track.”

Dec. 12 Members of the Putnam County Rotary and the Rotary-sponsored Putnam County Junior High Interact Club gather at the Color Point commercial greenhouse to load more than 700 donated poinsettias that were then distributed to senior citizens across the county. This holiday tradition of more than 40 years is one of the group’s largest and most cheerful activities of the year.

A guide for safe food and drug interactions

BY DAVE COOK news@putnamcountyrecord.com STANDARD — It’s well known it’s in a person’s best interest to follow doctor’s orders and to take prescribed medication as instructed.

It’s also well known certain medications shouldn’t be taken together.

But, what many may not realize is what someone eats and drinks while medicated can also be important.

Susan Glassman, a nutrition and wellness educator with the University of Illinois Extension, has shared information to help families be sure their medications aren’t neutralized or being made counterproductive through their diets.

According to the Food-Drug Interactions guide from U.S. Food and Drug Administration, some medications are taken on empty or full stomachs, or after a meal. Some are recommended without foods. When

To help prevent unintended consequences caused by these interactions, Glassman recommended an

updated list of medications be kept in the notes of a person’s phone along with a list of medications and their prescribed amounts. It’s also advised to fill all prescriptions at the same pharmacy.

GRANVILLE — Judith “Judy” Ann Meyer, 79, of Granville, formerly of Tonica, passed away Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018, at Aperion Care in Spring Valley.

She was born Sept. 14, 1939, in LaSalle to Guy and Dorothy (Stanford) Ringer.

She married Arthur “Art” Meyer May 18, 1957, in Tonica. He survives.

She worked at Anderson Microfilming, where she was a microfilmer. She was also a waitress at Ali’s Pantry in Granville.

She was a member of various camping clubs. She loved playing with her dog, “Princess.”

Also surviving are a daughter, Lynn (Roland) Nass of Tonica, and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Services were held Saturday, Dec. 29, at the Dysart-Cofoid Funeral Chapel in Granville with the Rev. Dr. Ron McNeill officiating. Cremation rites were accorded. Visitation will be held prior to the service at the funeral home.

YORKVILLE — Enricke “Ricky” Garcia, 58, of Yorkville, formerly of Granville, passed away Monday, Dec. 17, 2018, at his residence.

He was born Sept. 12, 1959, in Hammond, Ind., to Pantaleon and Dolores (DeLeon) Garcia.

He was a self-employed landscaper and received his CNA certification.

Survivors include his mother, Dolores Garcia of Arizona; three brothers, Dale (Rosie) Garcia of Chicago, Daniel Garcia of Arizona and Timothy (Kim) Garcia of Troy Grove; and two sisters, Cindy (Randall) Massino of Hennepin and Birchwood, Wis., and Zonia (Rob) Flynn of Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his father; one sister, Linda; and one brother, David.

A gathering of family and friends was held Saturday, Dec. 29, at the Dysart-Cofoid Funeral Chapel in Granville.

Freedom House receives grant from Ameren Illinois

PRINCETON — Ameren Illinois recently announced the company has given Freedom House a $2,500 donation for the Princeton-based agency’s emergency financial-aid fund for shelter clients.

The grant — for first month’s rent and utilities, moving expenses, child care, groceries, fuel, train fare, automobile repairs and necessary household supplies — will help needy shelter residents as they embark upon a life free of violence.

“Freedom House has been very fortunate to receive donations from Ameren in the past,” Michael Zerneck, executive director, said.

“This year’s grant will again help us provide emergency assistance to more innocent victims and their dependent children rendered homeless when fleeing an abuser. We salute Ameren Illinois for supporting these families to successfully achieve an independent household.”

Keep borrowing in good times, and it’s bound to catch up when times turn bad

I

n the past week or so, I have seen articles in the Wall Street Journal, the Economist, USA Today and elsewhere sounding alarums about debt, and of how it could overwhelm us, leaving us no wiggle room to fight the next recession with the stimulation that debt can provide.

My lame excuse for not paying more attention is that I relied on conservative Republican budget hawks to battle debt. But no longer.

Your tax relief in 2019 from the GOP-led 2018 congressional tax cut bill is paid for just about dollar-for-dollar with increased debt, $1.5 trillion of it.

The great English economist John Maynard Keynes theorized that if governments basically saved for a rainy day, nations could largely avoid the typical economic booms and busts endured by societies.

That was fine in theory, but elected officials have become addicted to debt as a way of doing things for

UNDERSTANDING ILLINOIS Jim Nowlan people right now. Let the devil pay the bills later, probably long after the debt-happy elected officials have retired from public service.

Instead, the new tax cuts stimulate an already stimulated economy, and beneficiaries enjoy the ride, while it lasts.

Debt can be good, of course. Debt built the U.S. economy, by making homes, autos and appliances possible via installment loans. And loans often built the railroads, bridges and infrastructure of our society.

Yet debt repayment is squeezing government and household budgets as never before (other than in World War II, which I would say was a rather good, if hard to avoid, investment).

If I have my figures right, total government and individual debt is about $35 trillion, or more than $100,000 for each man, woman and child in our country. And this debt is up more than three times in inflation-adjusted terms since 1990.

A CNBC report noted recently that consumers are spending 10 percent

of their income monthly on debt servicing, and this does not include home mortgage payments.

As a broken-down professor, I am fascinated by a relatively new, major category of debt — college loan debt held by students and parents. Up dramatically in just the past couple of decades, student loan debt, at $1.5 trillion, now exceeds that for either autos or credit cards.

Sixty percent of college students and their parents today incur an average of almost $30,000 in debt by the time they graduate.

Why has college loan debt spiked in recent years? Several reasons: Federal and state government support for higher education and for grants to students has subsided, actually declined significantly in Illinois.

At the same time, government loan money is now easier to come by.

For-profit colleges have profited big-time thanks to student loans.

Further, private colleges have made loans a key element in financial aid packages that make attending ol’ Siwash cost no more “out of pocket now” than attending the flagship public university competitors.

Most of this is anything but evil; it supports the education of students, especially low-income students.

Yet student debt loads often wreak

havoc on the plans of young couples to start a family or buy a home. And low-income students, many of whom never graduate, or take longer to do so, have a harder time than others paying back debt incurred when the idea sounded so good.

So why don’t elected officials pare back debt? Because politicians absolutely hate to pay back debt. For an elected official to pay back debt is an opportunity cost, that is, taking money he or she wants instead to spend now on current programs.

In other words, it is anti-gratification, and voters want immediate gratification from tax cuts and new programs.

We need a national blue ribbon (yes, I know) commission on debt reduction. Second, you and I must ask candidates for office about their philosophies and proposed actions regarding government debt, including college loans, which are, after all, government-encouraged.

Debt can be a critical counter-cyclical tool (squirrel money away in good times and use the savings to stimulate a society in recession).

But if we pile on more and more debt in good times, as at present, we will have less borrowing capacity later to counter recession or depression.

There’s reason for hope in the national immigration debate

EARDSTOWN — Sometimes you find hope in unexpected places.

For me, it was a trip to Walmart in this sleepy western Illinois town.

Strolling through the store aisles, I saw immigrants from Africa and Latin America chatting in French and Spanish among folks who have worked the land in Schuyler and Cass counties for generations.

Beardstown is a blue-collar town on the Illinois River. It’s famous for its watermelons, meatpacking plant and not much else.

My parents grew up just a few miles away in Schuyler County.

So, I can remember a number of trips to Beardstown to buy melons or hardware for weekend home improvement projects at my grandmother’s house.

My impression 40 years ago?

Well, my 10-year-old self would have described it as a redneck place. I guess I used that term

COMMENTARY Scott Reeder because it was rural and REALLY white. And I have no doubt that those from more urban areas would have used that term to describe me.

After all, I grew up on a farm near Galesburg. Every Tuesday, we shipped a truckload of hogs either to the slaughter plants in Monmouth or Beardstown.

If you work in a meat plant, you may spend much of your day swinging a knife and standing in animal blood. It’s tough, often brutal, work. For years, it was work done mainly by working-class whites. But several decades ago, the plant began hiring immigrants.

And community diversity followed.

It wasn’t always an easy melding

of cultures. I remember my mother taking my Grandma Wanda to a Kentucky Fried Chicken not far from the packing plant. Grandma became agitated when some men spoke Spanish the next table over.

In a booming voice, she said, “These people should speak English if they want to live in America.”

My mother, who had done much humanitarian work in Latin America, wanted to crawl under the table.

Unfortunately, today on the national stage, intolerant opinions like those once expressed by my grandma too often are drowning out notions of love and acceptance.

When I hear politicians say immigrants are lazy, I can’t help but scratch my head. No one who has chosen to work in a slaughterhouse is afraid to work. Immigrants often take the most physically demanding jobs in hopes that their chil-

dren will have a better life.

Now, you’ll hear some politicians say they have nothing against immigrants, just illegal immigration. But to quote George W. Bush, “Wouldn’t you cross a river to feed your family?”

Regardless, talk of illegal immigration often is nothing more than a smokescreen for condemnation of all immigrants. President Donald Trump’s infamous remarks about people coming from “s---hole” countries was about legal immigration.

While strolling through the store aisles in Beardstown, I was a long way from the poisonous rhetoric of Washington.

I just saw ordinary people who are black, brown and white not just working together but expressing genuine empathy.

While there may not be much reason to feel encouraged by Washington, I saw plenty of reasons to be hopeful in Beardstown.

First Amendment: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”

Enriched grains, multivitamins and iron supplements can impact the effectiveness of ulcer medications, bile acid sequestrants, antibiotics, ACE inhibitors and birth control medications.

Salt substitutes containing potassium can affect those taking Digoxin or ACE inhibitors, and alcohol should be avoided by those who are prescribed pain relievers, fever reducers, NSAIDs, bronchodilators, statins, nitrates and metformin.

To get the most benefit from prescribed medications, Glassman recommended letting a person’s doctor and pharmacist know about every drug being taken, including overthe-counter medications and herbal supplements.

“The main points I stress are to communicate with your doctor and pharmacist for their recommendations,” she said.

This hands-on workshop for youth ages 8-11, will be held from 9 a.m. to noon. Participants will be engaged in learning about bread and making homemade braided challah and twisted bread sticks from scratch to take home and share with others.

Casting call announced for Stage 212’s production of ‘Next to Normal’

LASALLE — Director Dave Roden has announced auditions for Stage 212’s spring 2019 production of “Next to Normal,” the acclaimed rock musical by Brian Yorkey and Tom Kitt, will be held at the theater , 700 First St. in LaSalle, at 7 p.m.

Friday, Jan. 18, and 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19.

Roden and music director Mary Kieffer will be casting three men with high baritone/tenor voices — one able to play age 40-45, and two able to play 18-21; and one man with a rock tenor voice able to play 30-40. They will also be casting two women with mezzo soprano (midrange) voices — one able to play 40-45 and one able to play mid to late teens. There will also be roles for two to four chorus members capable of singing the vocal ranges indicated above. All vocalists should be capable of singing in a rock and roll

style.

Those auditioning should prepare an appropriate musical selection of 32 bars or less, and should provide their own recorded accompaniment as an accompanist may not be available at auditions. Selections from the show and pop music selections are preferred, as traditional musical theatre selections may not reveal the qualities the directors wish to discover.

Callbacks will be at a later date, and will consist of musical selections from the show. Selections from the script will also be available at auditions for cold readings.

HENRY — “Science in the Shopping Cart” was the title of Midland FFA’s recent lesson taught to Henry and Midland fifth grade classrooms.

FFA members visited each fifth grade class in Henry-Senachwine and Midland schools. This opportunity is arranged by University of Illinois Extension Marshall Putnam Ag in the Classroom. Their objective was to help students understand how agriculture research is an important part of their lives.

From seedless grapes to designs on T-shirts, students were introduced to various familiar products of ag research. From there, the high school students led the fifth graders through an experiment on absorption and saturation. Students tested five different white powders to see how well they absorbed water. One of the powders was super slurper, invented at an ag research lab, using cornstarch as a base. It can absorb 2,000 times its weight and is now

used commercially in many ways.

This activity gave the high school students an opportunity to practice leadership skills, as well as share their knowledge of agriculture. Midland FFA is part of a national organization for high school students interested in agriculture and leadership skills. Students participate in

variety of local, regional and state activities that exposes them to many career opportunities.

OGLESBY — The Kristyne K. Curley Memorial scholarship has been created by her husband, Scott Curley, with a $10,000 donation to the Illinois Valley Community College Foundation.

The $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a current IVCC student beginning this fall.

“Kris could light up a room with her personality and warm smile and I’m sure she’s smiling down on the college now because of Scott’s generous donation to the Foundation in her memory,” said IVCC President Jerry Corcoran.

The Curleys both entered the workforce right after high school and decided to attend IVCC, both securing careers at the college. He began in the facilities department in maintenance and is now the director of the department. She worked in the information technologies department, becoming senior programmer/analyst.

In 2013, the Curleys adopted three kittens that had made the campus their home. When winter break came, they opened their home to the

Lady Panthers place fifth at Lady Bruins Christmas Classic The Lady Panthers won three of five recent games.

Molly Boyd scored 16 points in the Panthers’ 46-28 win over IVC on Dec. 21. Madelyn Dzierzynski and Avery Lamis both scored 10 points each. Others scoring were Lindsey DiazDeLeon (3), Sophia Harris (4), and Savannah Tucker (3).

St. Bede Tournament Megan Wiesbrock and Madelyn Dzierzynski were the leading scorers in the Mendota game with eight points each in the Lady Panthers’ 44-26 loss on Dec. 27. Lindsey DiazDeLeon and Sophia Harris both scored four points. Chloe Linton added two points.

Madelyn Dzierzynski was the leading scorer with seven points in the team’s 50-19 loss to Eureka on Dec. 27. Megan Wiesbrock added six points. Lindsey DiazDeLeon, Emily Bruch, Molly Boyd and Olivia Lamis all scored two points each.

Putnam County/Hall beat Farmington and Somonauk but lost to Kewanee on Dec. 29. Connor Brooker (145), Joseph Mecagni (220) and Denzel Sobin (152) all had three wins. Brooker pinned Farmington’s Mark Hayes art 35 seconds, Kewanee’s Draven Crane at 3:15 and Somonauk’s’s Eli Ciesielezyk at 1:35. Mecagni pinned Farmington’s state ranked Broc Shymansky at 3:58, Kewanee’s Swyler Summy at 45 seconds and received a forfeit over Somonauk. Sobin had three forfeit wins.

FIREARM DEER SEASONS

Illinois hunters shoot 80,896 deer SPRINGFIELD – A preliminary total of 80,896 deer were taken by hunters during the seven-day Illinois Firearm Deer Season that concluded on Dec. 2.

The 2018 preliminary harvest total compares to the final total of 80,117 deer harvested during the firearm season in 2017.

The preliminary harvest for the second segment of the firearm season on Nov. 29 through Dec. 2 was 22,060, compared with 28,656 during the second season in 2017.
