Matt Fitzpatrick looking for another major victory

With the highly anticipated U.S. Open Golf Championship just around the corner, there’s certainly one name that stands out among the talented field of competitors — Matt Fitzpatrick.

Born in Sheffield, England, the 28-year-old has quickly made a significant impact in the world of golf, having already accumulated numerous accolades and displaying a maturity level beyond his years. After winning the Silver Medal as the leading amateur at the 2013 Open Championship, his career trajectory has skyrocketed, climbing up the world rankings at a remarkable pace after making an official move to professional golf in 2014. Putting his talent on full display, the Englishman won his first professional tournament at the 2015 British Masters, cracking the top-100 ranking, at No. 59, for the first time in his career. Continuing his elite level of play, his performance at the British Masters earned him a spot on the 2016 European Ryder Cup team. He concluded his triumphant rookie season with one tour win and an impressive nine Top 10 finishes.

Having now been propelled to prominence and beginning to pave a path for himself, he went on and put together a string of dominant performances, showcasing his ability to play under pressure, like winning the 2016 DP World Tour Championship over Tyrrell Hayton by one shot.

Leading up to the U.S. Open Championship this year, Fitzpatrick’s statistics can do all the talking — he’s currently ranked No. 7 worldwide. His driving accuracy, putting average and greens in regulation percentages consistently rank among the top on the PGA Tour. His patented short game is sure to play a big role as well. He’s now racked up eight European Tour wins, One Asian Tour win and two PGA Tour wins, including winning his first major championship last year when he finished at six-under-par, one stroke ahead of Scottie Scheffler and Will Zalatoris, at the U.S. Open.

Boldly going: ‘Star Trek’ prequel explores ‘Strange New Worlds’ again

A prequel series in one of sci-fi’s most iconic franchises is ready to go, boldly, back to the roots of the saga.

“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” begins its 10-episode second season Thursday, June 15, on Paramount+, as it continues the exploits of the starship Enterprise when it was under the command of Capt. Christopher Pike (Anson Mount, “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” 2022), the predecessor of the vessel’s legendary later skipper, James T. Kirk (played by “The Vampire Diaries’” Paul Wesley, who reprises the recurring role in Season 2). Spun off from another prequel show, “Star Trek: Discovery,” “Strange New Worlds” has even more in store for fans: A third season already has been ordered, ahead of the premiere of Season 2.

“We have tried to harken back to some of the values and styles of the original series that got those of us who are a little older ignited on our ‘Star Trek’ journeys,” explains executive producer Akiva Goldsman. “In doing so, we’ve tried to look back and inter-

polate some parts of the original series that might not have made it to the screen, some things that might have happened just before Jim Kirk took over the Enterprise. And, as such, some familiar faces are finding new life.”

Mount brought his Pike portrayal over from “Star Trek: Discovery,” which also featured Ethan Peck (“In Time,” 2011) as Spock and Rebecca Romijn (“X-Men,” 2000) as Number One before they made the journey to “Strange New Worlds.”

Nurse Chapel (played by Jess Bush, “Playing For Keeps”) and Ensign Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding, “Broadway Whodunit: Escape From Camp Eerie,” 2020) are among other long-familiar characters who make their “Strange New Worlds” presence known. The second season of “Strange New Worlds” also includes Carol Kane (“Hunters”) in a recurring role.

“There was something about ‘Star Trek’ that was so far off the radar for me,” reflects “Hell on Wheels” alum Mount, who also is the character Black Bolt in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “It wasn’t even on my bucket list. I just never thought I would end up captaining the Enterprise. It’s insane when you think about it. And every single day I’m on the set — I’m not exaggerating — is both disbelief and a feeling of tremendous gratitude.”

A particularly intriguing crossover story is part of Season 2 of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds,” which will merge temporarily with “Star Trek: Lower Decks” ... an animated show. Franchise veteran Jonathan Frakes (“Star Trek: The Next Generation”) directed that story, which features the voices of Tawny Newsome (“Space Force”) and Jack Quaid (“The Boys”) in their “Lower Decks” parts — and challenges traditional “Star Trek” boundaries by combining live action and animation.

Q: What is it like to share the role of Shauna on “Yellowjackets” with Melanie Lynskey at different ages?

A: It’s hard, because we’re not shooting at the same time. We (younger actors) barely get to be on the set when the adults are there, so it is hard for me sometimes to know what Melanie is doing. I think (it’s about) just keeping Shauna’s personality and her spirit and her journey in mind.

We did also talk about some personal stuff. I find that I relate to my character so much, in so many different ways. and I think adding some just personal details about our lives also helped a lot.

Q: Were you familiar with Melanie’s work before “Yellowjackets”?

A: I had not watched any of Melanie’s work. When I learned that I got the part, I watched a couple of things (of hers) on YouTube and such, and I remember being struck by how high-pitched her voice was. I was like, “There’s no way I can match that.” We actually don’t look similar at all, but I knew first how talented she was, and I was very honored to be able to play her younger self.

I haven’t drawn anything from her other characters, because I think this character is so specific and unique. I think I was just more focused on just having conversations with her. We sat for coffee and discussed the character, just trying to be on the same page about her journey. I just tried to match more of what (Lynskey) was playing older.

A: It’s safe to say at this point (he’s 30 now) that Tyler James Williams is one of those rare actors who transitioned pretty smoothly from child stardom to adult stardom. He continues to be in demand to this day.

He had a few small roles in his preteen years, but it was his role on “Everybody Hates Chris,” which he landed when he was 13, that brought Williams to public attention.

The critically acclaimed series ran for four seasons on UPN and later the CW, ending in 2009. After that, he took on a few small supporting roles here and there before having a big 2012, showing up on the silver screen in “Peeples,”

produced by hitmaker extraordinaire Tyler Perry (“Diary of a Mad Black Woman,” 2005), and toplining the Disney Channel original film “Let It Shine.”

He appeared two years later in the bigscreen indie phenomenon “Dear White People” (2014), and later took on a different role in the Netflix series adaptation. And in 2019 he had a leading role in the short-lived ABC action series “Whiskey Cavalier.”

That more or less brings us up to today, when you can catch him starring in the Emmy-winning ABC sitcom “Abbott Elementary.”

Q: I just finished watching “Ancient Apocalypse” on Netflix and am wondering if I can see the host anywhere else. He seemed to know a lot and was good on camera.

A: Your description of him seems to be exactly how he got his own show in the first place.

Prior to taking center stage, along with his unorthodox ancient-civilization theories, on “Ancient Apocalypse,” Graham Hancock was a frequent guest expert on a number of similar historical shows.

Most notably, he has appeared 18 times (so far) on the long-running hit “Ancient Aliens.” He appeared, in fact, in the very first episode of the show back in 2010 and most recently appeared in 2021 for Season 17.

Interestingly, Hancock’s most famous theory (explored in-depth on “Ancient Apocalypse”) actually runs contrary to the most famous theory explored on “Ancient Aliens.” Namely, Hancock believes most unexplained archeological findings can be reconciled by the existence of a forgotten human civilization, while “Ancient Aliens” prefers to chalk it all up to our ancestors being visited by aliens.

He’s appeared as a guest on more than two dozen similar docuseries and specials — ones with likely names such as “Ancient Civilizations,” “History’s Mysteries” (a History Channel series hosted by Dan Aykroyd) and the 1990s Fox series “Sightings.”

His own ancient-civilization theory was previously explored in depth in 1998 in the three-episode miniseries “Quest for the Lost Civilization,” which first aired on Britain’s Channel 4 but can currently be found on various streaming services.

Doctor’s orders: Dr. Craythorne prescribes fifth season of ‘Save My Skin’

Chances are that each and every one of us has experiences an itch, a rash or a skin condition of some kind at least once in our lives, but what of the more persistent and pesky skin afflictions? From eczema to keloids and beyond, Dr. Emma Craythorne has been helping patients find relief at her dermatological practice in London, England. Now heading into its fifth season, Craythorne and her team prepare to battle a whole new selection of dangerous, ugly and uncomfortable maladies. Season 5 of “Save My Skin” premieres Wednesday, June 14, on TLC.

Ever since the series’ debut in 2019, Craythorne has been getting up close and personal with the most infectious, annoying and disfiguring skin abnormalities, and this new season is no different. While those who have seen the show will already know what to expect, TLC described the new season in such a way that may make even the most loyal “Dr. Pimple Popper” devotees tune in, stating that Craythorne continues “[u] sing cutting-edge technology and tried and tested methods of popping, slicing, and squeezing, [as] she helps people get their lives back.”

The new episodes see the dermatology team at 152 Harley St. in London facing some familiar conditions, such as allergic reactions and simple dermatitis, along with some real stumpers. More specifically, according to PremiereDate.News, “a few mystery conditions ... put Emma’s skin sleuthing skills to the test” as she tries to suss out a diagnosis and get to the root of the issue to prevent it from occurring ever again.

Craythorne’s love for her job is also always evident as she frequently takes to her social media accounts (her Instagram, @ dremmacraythorne, appears to be her platform of choice) to announce new developments and share her gratitude.
