McIlroy looks to master an all-too-familiar course; sets sights on second major victory for 2025

The world’s top golfers are set to hit the fairway for their second major tournament of the 2025 PGA Tour, beginning Thursday, May 15, with this year’s PGA Championship, to be held at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. The tournament concludes Sunday, May 18, with all rounds broadcast live on CBS.

There is something about this year’s PGA Championship that may keep bringing out the best in Rory McIlroy, who has performed well above par this season. Completing the long-awaited career Grand Slam at the Masters in April, he became only the sixth male player to complete this feat — with many fans now eagerly wondering whether he can complete the calendar Grand Slam.

With this year’s PGA Championship, there is a strong case to make that McIlroy can easily win his second major of the year, having already won four times in Charlotte (2010, 2015, 2021, 2024). And with victories this year at Pebble Beach, the Players and the Masters, McIlroy is setting the pace for what could be a historic season in golf.

Passing of the crown: A new power rules the South Side in

The winds have changed in Chitown. Following a shocking death in last season’s finale, the women of “The Chi” step up in the series’ seventh season, premiering Sunday, May 18, on the linear Paramount+ With Showtime network, and is available to stream on Paramount+ with Showtime.

Season 6’s finale episode opened with (spoilers) a bang — or rather the echo of a bang — and one of the city’s most notorious gangsters lying dead on the floor of his own club. For years, Otis “Douda” Perry (Curtiss Cook, “Carry-On,” 2024) ran Chicago, at times as a respected businessman and even as mayor for a short time, but always as a smooth operator conducting the city’s underworld.

Douda had made his fair share of enemies throughout his five-season-long run at the top of his empire, but it was ultimately his own No. 2, Nuck (Cortez Smith, “Loyalty Over Trust,” 2024), who pulled the trigger. Douda’s fate was sealed as he stared down Alicia (Lynn Whitfield, “Greenleaf”) as she asked for his final words and readied herself to take him out, only for Nuck, who’d recently survived a brutal beating at the hands of his boss, to step out of the shadows and make the shot.

Eliminating a common enemy did not, however, make friends of the two. This season, Alicia is decidedly on top, claiming her crown and bringing vital women up with her. While she initially speaks to the peaceful control of the city’s new regime in the official trailer for the upcoming season, it is not long before trouble comes knocking. Accord-

ing to Paramount: “as loyalties are tested and new rivalries are stoked, it becomes clear that there’s only one crown and it will come at a heavy cost.”

If Alicia wasn’t amenable to working with Nuck when they both had guns aimed at Douda, then the deal was done when Nuck killed Alicia’s son Rob (Iman Shumpert, “Them”) in the same episode.

“It’s time to get to work,” Alicia says in the trailer. It all comes down on the shoulders of the women of “The Chi” to put an end to the terror that men have inflicted on the city for too long.

“To protect this city, we have to clean up these streets ourselves,” Alicia demands of her circle. She is out for revenge for her son as much as she wants to rid the streets of Chicago of senseless violence, staking out targets in the cover of darkness.

Meanwhile, Nuck is building something of his own now that he’s replaced Douda in his operation. He’s not like his predecessor, Nuck declares in the trailer, putting his new underlings in their place threatening, “One of you disrespect me, I’ll kill you.”

Q: Will the new female agent on “FBI” be staying with the show?

A: That seems to be the plan, particularly after Stuart Scola (played by John Boyd) has had several partners since the start of the CBS and Paramount+ show’s current season — which ends on Tuesday, May 20. He was still teamed with Tiffany Wallace (Katherine Renee Kane) when the series’ seventh year began last fall, but she left soon afterward.

Among potential replacements who came in was Behavioral Analysis Unit officer Sydney Ortiz (Lisette Olivera), but she stayed for only a handful of episodes for being written out by her transfer to another office. (The producers reportedly developed concerns about the part being cast too young, particularly opposite the much more experienced Scola.)

Then, in April, Emily Alabi was introduced as Dani Rhodes, an independent-minded undercover operative who had to learn quickly how to be a team player in order to fit in with Special Agent Maggie Bell (Missy Peregrym) and company. She essentially filled in for Maggie in a later episode, providing even more of an opportunity to show how she might perform with the rest of the crew.

Alabi had a different role as a guest on the now-ending “FBI: International,” and she also has appeared in other CBS procedural dramas such as “NCIS,” “S.W.A.T.” and “Magnum, P.I.” ABC’s “The Rookie,” The CW’s “Jane the Virgin” and MTV’s “Teen Wolf” have been among other credits for Alabi, who was a dancer-choreographer before turning to acting, even working on The Oscars in that earlier capacity.

Pee-wee’s big documentary: beloved character actor Paul Reubens celebrated in two-part series

An actor, comedian and visionary, Paul Reubens (“Mosaic”) — known to many as his most beloved persona, Pee-wee Herman — is celebrated posthumously during the touching and emotional two-part documentary, “Pee-wee as Himself,” making its debut Friday, May 23, on HBO and Max with both episodes airing back-to-back.

First gracing the stage as an improvisational comedian and stage actor in the 1970s, Reubens quickly developed the childlike, wide-eyed character of Pee-wee, who later went on to appear in the likes of “The Pee-wee Herman Show” (1981), “Peewee’s Big Adventure” (1985), “Pee-wee’s Playhouse” and “Pee-wee’s Big Holiday” (2016), delighting fans of all ages.

Reubens, who died from cancer in 2023 at the age of 70, worked alongside documentarian Matt Wolf (“Wild Combination: A Portrait of Arthur Russell,” 2008) for the creation of this eye-opening film, hoping to connect with viewers on a deeper level before his passing.

As the series’ logline reads: “Driven by a soul-baring interview with Paul Reubens, the man behind the iconic character Peewee Herman, ‘Pee-wee as Himself’ is the definitive portrait of the comedic performer, and a window into his never before discussed personal life. Determined to correct the record and tell the factual story of his life, Reubens excavates his kaleidoscopic influences, origins in the circus and avant-garde performance theater, and career choices, while reflecting on the reasoning behind, and the consequences of, severing his beloved alter ego from his authentic self.”

Wolf, who collected 40 hours of interview footage from Reubens, his friends, his family and his on-screen comrades, delves headfirst into the complex man who brought Pee-wee to life, offering never-before-seen clips and pictures as he unpacks an often unspoken aspect of Reuben’s life: his identity as a gay man.

“When we started making the documentary, Paul told me that he had decided he was ready to come out,” Wolf said in a statement shared with GLAAD. “Since he had been extremely private throughout his life, talking about his sexuality was probably the most sensitive thing we had to navigate together.”

“Reubens’ story is bold and urgent, in a time when the LGBTQ community’s rights are being stripped away. It’s not only an inspiring story of living your life authentically, but it’s a preservation of queer history and icons,” read the adjoining statement from GLAAD.

Introducing viewers to the man behind the bowtie, “Pee-wee as Himself” premieres Friday, May 23, on both HBO and Max.
