Dear Readers, We have gone through many changes as a community over the past year, but when we started to plan out our projects for 2021, we knew that we still wanted to focus on the “progress” and perseverance that our community has shown over the last year. We decided to move forward with our annual progress edition with an updated format. In the past, we ran the advertisements, photos and stories of the businesses over several editions of the newspaper. This year, we still gave businesses the opportunity to have an article written about their business so they can tell the readers about their products, services and employees, but this year we are bringing it to you in a full color glossy magazine. This magazine is an in-depth look at the local people, places and businesses that make up our community. Please take the time to read through this publication and let the businesses know that you saw their articles and photos. Let them know that you support their businesses and our community. A Promising Future for a Newly Formed Regional Health Network.

Mother Teresa once said, “…we can all do small things, with great love, and together we can do something wonderful.” Together, we can do more for our community, and we look to the future with great anticipation. As of January 1, 2021, St. Margaret’s Hospital in Spring Valley and Illinois Valley Community Hospital (IVCH) in Peru finalized arrangements to consolidate their healthcare operations to form a regional health network.

Aaron K. Alton, President & CEO of SMP Health System stated, “We are honored to have such dedicated community leaders represented on the Board of Directors of St. Margaret’s Health. SOCU is Coming to Ottawa this Summer! Streator Onized Credit Union (SOCU) is excited to announce its newest branch, located at 721 Columbus St. in Ottawa, set to open summer 2021. Solon Funeral Home marks 120 years In the year 2021, Solon Funeral Home will mark their 120th Anniversary of service and compassion to the Streatorland area. The Solon Funeral Home was started on June 1, 1901 in the Plumb Hotel by brothers, Anthony and Leonard Solon. Two more generations joined the Solon legacy to build a successful and trusted business for the next 101 years. There were many changes over the years including the purchase of the funeral home by Jason and Dolly Telford in 2002. Jason and Dolly were born and raised in Streator, both attending Streator High School and then moving on to Illinois State University where they each earned a Bachelor’s Degree, Jason in Communications/Public Relations and Dolly in Busi-

ness/Marketing. The couple was married in 1996 and in March of 1997, Jason attended Worsham College of Mortuary Science in order to pursue a life-long dream of becoming a funeral director. The couple moved back to their hometown in 1999. The Telford’s have 2 sons, Hunter, a junior at ISU and Mason, a senior at Streator High. Together, the Telford’s along with licensed funeral director/embalmer, Joe Rabbitt run the funeral home on a daily basis. Rabbitt, a Streator native, has been a licensed funeral director for almost 50 years and brings experience and compassion to the families we serve. Darel Good has recently joined the staff and is currently attending Worsham College of Mortuary Science to become a licensed funeral director.”

Ottawa Dental Laboratory Great Experiences… Lasting Smiles

Founded in 1937, the Ottawa Dental Laboratory has served the dental community for over 80 years. This third generation, family owned and operated company has evolved with this ever-changing, dynamic industry. Renovations at Morris Hospital over the past two years have resulted in a new Emergency Department, Infusion Therapy Center, Outpatient Laboratory, Women’s Imaging Center, Cardio Diagnostics department, and most recently, a 5 bay Interventional Prep/Recovery area for patients preparing for and recovering from an interventional radiology or cath lab procedure, such as angioplasty, pacemaker or defibrillator insertion, or PICC line insertion.

Morris Hospital completes next phase in main campus modernization In March 2020, Morris Hospital opened its new Emergency Department in renovated space on the hospital’s first floor, dramatically changing the experience for emergency patients. Since then, the space previously occupied by the Emergency Department has been transformed into a new Cardio Diagnostics department and Interventional Prep/Recovery area as part of the next phase in Morris Hospital’s main campus modernization project. The new Cardio Diagnostics department provides enhanced facilities for patients undergoing EKGs, echocardiograms, stress tests, cardioversions, and other cardiac diagnostic services, as well as EEG (electroencephalogram) and EMG (electromyography) neurology studies. All of the testing rooms are bigger and more functional, resulting in enhanced privacy and patient care. Along with the newly renovated space, Morris Hospital has added new stress testing and EMG equipment, and a

new tilt table that is used to assist with specialized diagnostic studies. Located adjacent to the Cardio Diagnostics department, the new Interventional Prep/ Recovery features 5 private bays for patients preparing for and recovering from an interventional radiology or cath lab procedure, such as angioplasty, pacemaker or defibrillator insertion, or PICC line insertion. The Imaging Services department has also been renovated, with one of the highlights featuring a new Women’s Imaging Center with a separate sub-waiting area for women having a mammogram, bone density test, stereotactic breast biopsy, or ultrasound. The main campus modernization project has also resulted in a new Infusion Therapy Center and Outpatient Laboratory, along with renovations to the main lobby. Next, Morris Hospital is making plans for renovations that will modernize the hospital’s peri-operative services facilities, including the operating rooms, post anesthesia recovery unit, sterile processing, and ambulatory surgery unit. These renovations are expected to begin in summer 2021.
