OST news editor ahansen@osceolaiowa.com

If you’re looking to snack on something sweet at Clarke County Hospital, Mary Anne and Eugene Rumley are the people who can help you out. Mary Anne, 82, and Eugene, 83, have been managing the snack shop at Clarke County Hospital for more than 20 years. Their work is all volunteer. “I felt like it’s something that’s needed,” Mary Anne said. Starting out Mary Anne said she is the reason the

couple started to volunteer their time at the hospital. “I retired. I thought, ‘I’m not going to stay home,’” Mary Anne said. “I’d worked for the public for a long time. So, I’d already belonged to (Clarke County Hospital) Auxiliary.” Mary Anne was a pharmacy technician. When an opportunity to volunteer at the snack shop presented itself, Mary Anne took it. “I said, ‘Well, I don’t know why I can’t’ (and) here we still are,” Mary Anne said.
