Osceola man pleads not guilty to double homicide charges By AMY HANSEN

An Osceola man has pleaded not guilty to two charges of double homicide. Richard Ryan Lamb Carson, 38, of Osceola has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Erick Reyna, 22, and Noe Flores Rascon, 27, both of Osceola. According to a record search of Iowa Courts Online, an arraignment for Carson was scheduled for

9:30 a.m. Thursday, March 12. However, a written arraignment and plea of not guilty was issued before the scheduled date. Major parking changes underway during Clarke County Hospital’s expansion By AMY HANSEN

From early spring until mid-fall, be prepared to park in different areas than you’re used to at Clarke County Hospital. With the hospital’s current expansion project beginning to take shape, a lot of changes are happening to the hospital, especially when it comes to parking. “It’s going to be a very interesting time where a lot of our community members are going to feel very frustrated,” said Darby Brignac, Clarke County Hospital public relations and marketing. According to Brignac, Clarke County Hospital’s project is expanding to the south of the facility, which will affect the UnityPoint Clinic, specialty clinic, emergency room department and new lobby. This means, from now until October, parking is going to be affected in one form or another. The handicap ramp has also been affected. Currently, there is handicap accessibility through the cafeteria doors, but it isn’t automatic. There is also an option of

For those of you excited that spring is approaching, remember what also comes with it — severe weather and tornado season. According to Allan Mathias, Clarke County environmental services, Severe Weather Awareness Week is planned March 23-27. During that week, the statewide tornado drill is planned Wednesday, March 25. According to the National Weather Service’s website, the tornado drill is scheduled approximately 10 a.m. that day. “This is a good time to check out your plans and test to see if you can hear the siren,” Mathias said.

“Many people look up at the sky and don’t seek shelter,” Mathias said. “That may work most of the time, but you don’t know when that one time is going to come.” Mobile homes don’t offer any protection when it comes to severe weather and tornadoes.
