Julia’s kindness a blessing to kids with cancer September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. And for the third consecutive year, big-hearted Julia Gilmore of Lakewood is doing something for children fighting cancer.

We first wrote about Julia, now 11, in 2014.

Starting when she was 2, Julia suffered from migraine headaches, as many as 40 to 50 a month.

She spent many days in the hospital, and a childhood blanket gave her comfort.

One day when she was 9, after doctors determined that artificial foods were causing a chemical imbalance in Julia’s brain, she had a thought.

From our 2014 story: “What do kids do if they don’t have one?” she asked her mother.

That one thought inspired a movement in which Julia, friends from school, her soccer team and Girl Scout troop, as well as members of the family’s church made 123 blankets that were delivered to children at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

But the kindness didn’t end there.

Last year, Julia and team launched Project Showtime, in which they collected movies to send to St. Jude so children being treated there had fun things to watch during their stays.

HONOLULU – The world’s largest living primate has been listed as critically endangered, making four of the six great ape species only one step away from extinction, according to a report released Sunday at the World Conservation Congress in Hawaii.

The International Union for the Conservation of Nature cited illegal hunting in downgrading the status of the eastern gorilla on its Red List of Endangered Species. The list contains more than 80,000 species, and almost 24,000 of those are threatened with extinction.

The organization said an estimated 5,000 eastern gorillas remain in the wild, a decline of about 70 percent over the past 20 years.

Of all the great ape species – the eastern gorilla, western gorilla, Bornean orangutan, Sumatran orangutan, chimpanzee and bonobo – only the chimpanzee and bonobo are not considered critically endangered. But they are listed as endangered.

Crystal Lake resident, judoka set to compete in Rio for 2016 Paralympic Games

jreiland@shawmedia.com CRYSTAL LAKE – Two-and-a-half years ago, Sarah Chung stepped into the dojo and onto the mat for the first time, unsure of where her interest in judo would lead her.

Now the Crystal Lake resident, who is legally blind, is one of the top internationally ranked judoka’s in her division, and is representing the United States in the 2016 Paralympic Games.

As the 2007 Prairie Ridge High School grad prepares for her competition, she knows her journey to Rio wasn’t always easy.

Chung, 27, was born with optic nerve hypoplasia but competed in tae kwon do and ran cross country for much of her young adult life. After finishing school, Chung said she wanted something different and was convinced by a friend to give Paralympic judo a shot.

“Once I got onto the mat I haven’t left it since,” she said.

With no prior experience, Chung spent two-and-a-half years training and competing in tournaments all over the world including Hungary, Toronto and South Korea.

While competing, Chung earned fifth place in 2015 in the Paralympic World Cup in Hungary, a gold medal

in the 2014 USA Judo National President’s Cup and a bronze medal in the 2014 USA Judo Senior National Championships, among other awards.

In April, Chung competed in the Olympic Trials but lost all of her matches. She said after the “devastating” performance, she moved on and set her sights for the 2020 Paralympics in Tokyo.

It wasn’t until about two weeks ago when Chung and her coach, Brett Wolf, got a call inviting her to compete in Rio for the United States.

Wolf said he was in Rio for the Olympics when he found out she had a chance to make the Paralympic team.

After the International Paralympic

Committee banned Russia from participating in the games for allegedly violating international doping rules, Chung was given a second chance.

Since then, Chung has intensified her training regimen and also has continued her training for the Chicago Marathon in October. She said while she feels slightly under prepared, she has continued to believe in her judo club, training partners and Senseis.

The only difference between sighted and visually impaired judo competitions is that blind athletes must maintain contact at all times during sparring.

McHenry County Board will vote Tuesday on Marengo I-90 interchange

kcraver@shawmedia.com WOODSTOCK – The McHenry County Board will vote Tuesday whether to give the go-ahead to build a full interchange at Route 23 and Interstate 90 south of Marengo.

County Board members will face two resolutions regarding the project – one to approve how the county, the state and the city will divide up the costs, and the other to approve an intergovernmental agreement with Marengo to hire the engineering firm. The resolutions come with positive recommendations from both the Transportation and the Finance and Audit committees.

Bids are expected to be let out this fall should the County Board give its blessing Tuesday – government and business leaders lave long wanted McHenry County to have its own access to an interstate highway. The proposed plan takes advantage of the fact that the state already was planning to rebuild the Route 23 overpass next year.

The $32 million project is divided into two phases. The first phase is the rebuilding of the overpass, with the additions of

A Spring Grove husband and wife were killed late Saturday in a two-vehicle crash on South Solon Road just north of Ringwood Road in unincorporated McHenry, Dr. Anne Majewski, McHenry County Coroner, said in a news release.

The driver, John S. Korkowski, 67, and his wife-passenger, Claire D. Korkowski, 59, of Spring Grove, were northbound on South Solon Road when their vehicle veered off the right side of the road. They re-entered the road in the southbound lanes, skidded sideways and were struck by the second vehicle, according to the news release.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 10:30 p.m. Autopsies will be conducted Tuesday to determine cause of death, Majewski said.

The accident remains under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Police Accident Investigation Unit.

Under the recommended agreements, the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority will pay for the overpass and widening Route 23 near the interchange to accommodate the extra traffic. The authority will shoulder half the cost for the ramps in the second phase, with the county and the Illinois Department of Transportation splitting the difference.

The county will cover the $2.66 million in engineering costs that first will be billed to Marengo.

Marengo’s plan for the interchange, which is equidistant between O’Hare and Rockford airports and near rail access, is to create an industrial hub. An analysis released in June concluded that the interchange and the jobs that would come with the plan could mean between $538 million and more than $1.7 billion in economic

impact, or between $697 million and $2.25 billion if the construction of the interchange and the industries are included.

Opponents have questioned the financial benefit and the environmental suitability of the land surrounding the proposed interchange, and have been skeptical of promises that Marengo will not turn Route 23 into another Randall Road, lined with homes, shopping centers and the traffic congestion that comes with them.

The meeting will be the last for County Board member Nick Provenzano, R-McHenry, who officially steps down Wednesday to work full time as deputy district director for U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren, R-Plano. Board members will vote at the end of the meeting to officially declare a vacancy as required by state law.

Republican precinct committeemen in County Board District 3, which Provenzano represents, chose businessman Chris Christensen, of rural Cary, to replace Provenzano on the Nov. 8 ballot. County Board Chairman Joe Gottemoller, R-Crystal Lake, will submit Christensen’s name for a vote at the next board meeting Sept.

20 to fill the remaining two and a half months of Provenzano’s term.

Wisted’s in Marengo to ditch Piggly Wiggly brand

bkeeperman@shawmedia.com MARENGO – Wisted’s in Marengo will no longer operate under the Piggly Wiggly brand effective Sept. 21.

The store has been in Marengo for the past 56 years and at its current location on Grant Highway since the early 1990s, said Wisted’s owner Susie Marsh, whose father is Harold Wisted. Wisted’s partnered with Piggly Wiggly in 2013 and converted all three of its stores to the brand. The stores are in Marengo, Woodstock and Huntley.

cation that remains open. The family closed the Woodstock location in February when its lease was up, less than a year after the Huntley store closed its doors.

“We want to be more independent like we used to be,” Marsh said.

Marsh said that the murmurings of the Marengo store closing are unfounded and that the grocer isn’t going anywhere. The store is no longer issuing Piggly Wiggly cards, however.

Madison, Wisconsin-based Certco will now supply the store with its products. The grocer’s house brand is Shurfine, which customers who shop at Woodman’s should recognize, Marsh said.

Customers should see the benefits of the change quickly, Marsh said.

McHenry County Museum hosting Art of War exhibit September 11 NORTHWEST HERALD UNION – The McHenry County Historical Society will be hosting an exhibit full of wartime propaganda posters Sept. 11.

The Art of War exhibit will be on display from 2 to 3 p.m. at the McHenry County Historical Society and Museum, 422 Main St., Union, ahead of

December’s 75th year anniversary of Pearl Harbor and the U.S. entry into World War II. The exhibit will be led by historical society president Robert Frenz, who will show eventgoers his collection of wartime propaganda posters. These posters helped encourage Americans to defend their country, ration food, conserve energy, purchase war bonds,

produce for victory and maintain a secrecy during World War II. Attendees will be able to learn more about these iconic wartime images as well as the artists who created them.

Admission will be $5 for museum members and $10 for nonmembers. Access into the entire museum and the mobile World War I exhibit is included in the admission price.

CRYSTAL LAKE – McHenry County College is offering three new courses this semester teaching aspiring photographers how to take professional photographs and videos on their smartphones.

“These classes are important because people are using their mobile phones now more than standard cameras,” personal development coordinator Claudia Terrones said.

Interested students can choose from three different courses on mobile photography and videography that will be taught by award-winning photographer Hossein Khandan.

One of the newly offered courses is called Professional Tips on Mobile Photography. During this course, students will receive expert guidance on how to use mobile phones properly for photography. The course will go over how to control exposure, how to create a shallow depth of field and how to make good composition on a mobile

phone.

“Khandan gave an example that if you’re taking a picture of a moon on your phone, it will typically look like just a white spot with a glow around it,” Terrones said. “But he can teach the students how to get a good, professional-looking photo of the moon instead of just a glow.”

This course will be from 10 to 11:50 a.m. Saturdays, Sept. 8 and 15 in MCC’s Room E201.

The other two unique courses MCC will offer this semester focus on mobile videography. One of the courses will be an interactive workshop that teaches students a step-by-step process on how to use a mobile phone as a video camera. In this class, students will learn how to avoid focus issues and how to create the best shots possible using their mobile devices.

The videography class will be from 6:30 to 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, and Thursday, Sept. 29, in Room E204.

These three classes will not be a part of the photography certificate program currently offered at MCC.

MCHENRY – McHenry city officials recognized McHenry County Sheriff’s Deputy Dwight Maness with an honorary road sign near where he and his family called home for nearly a decade.

The street sign, located at the intersection of Reagan Boulevard and Lincoln Road, was placed in the subdivision Aug. 29 after unanimous approval from the McHenry City Council.

Maness died Sept. 14, 2015, nearly one year after the Holiday Hills shooting.

He and partner Deputy Khalia Satkiewicz responded in October 2014 to a reported domestic incident at the Holiday Hills home of Scott B. Peters, 53, who fired more than a dozen rounds at the two officers. Maness’ femur was shattered and a vein in his leg was severed in the shooting. After 15 surgeries he never regained the ability to walk.

Maness spent several months recovering before he developed a blood clot in his lungs and died suddenly during a physical therapy appointment.

THOMAS GEORGE DORAN Bishop Emeritus Thomas George Doran, D.D., J.C.D., died peacefully at his residence in Presence Cor Mariae, Rockford, on Sept. 1, 2016. He was 80 years old.

Bishop Doran was born on Feb. 20, 1936, in Rockford, to Robert J. and Gretchen (Durst) Doran. He attended St. James

Pro-Cathedral Grade School graduating in 1950. He attended Campion Jesuit High School in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, from 1950 to 1954. Bishop Doran then entered the college seminary and completed his classical and philosophical studies at St. Pius X Seminary at Loras College, Dubuque, Iowa from 1954 to 1958. Upon his graduation in 1958, he was assigned to Theological Studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and to receive his priestly formation at the Pontifical North American College, Vatican City.

On Dec. 20, 1961, he was ordained a priest in the Basilica of St. Peter by The Most Reverend Martin J. O’Connor, Rector of the Pontifical North American College. After ordination he completed studies and was awarded a Licentiate in Sacred Theology in 1962. Upon his return to the Diocese of Rockford, Father Doran was assigned assistant pastor at St. Joseph Parish, Elgin, and to teach religion at St. Edward Central Catholic High School from 1962 to 1963. He then was assigned as assistant pastor at St. Peter Parish, South Beloit and to work in the Diocesan Tribunal from 1963 to 1965. In 1965, Bishop Loras T. Lane appointed Father Doran to be his secretary, and secretary of the Diocesan Tribunal and a Defender of the Bond until Bishop Arthur J. O’Neill appointed him Chancellor in 1969 where he served for the next 17 and one half years. During that time, he also served as director of religious

education and assistant principal at Boylan Central Catholic High School and served on the diocesan College of Consultors. In 1976 he was named Officialis of the Diocesan Tribunal and pursued post-graduate studies in Canon Law in Rome receiving a doctorate in 1978. He was appointed the first Episcopal Vicar for Catholic Education by Bishop O’Neill and served in that post from 1982 to 1984. In 1984 Father Doran was appointed rector of the Cathedral of St. Peter, also continuing as chancellor until he was appointed Prelate Auditor of the Roman Rota by Pope John Paul II and elevated to the title of Monsignor.

He served the Holy See until his appointment as bishop of Rockford on April 19, 1994. He was ordained and installed the eighth Bishop of the Rockford Diocese on June 24, 1994 by Cardinal Joseph Bernardin of Chicago. As the leader of the 11-county diocese, Bishop Doran oversaw, directed and supported many initiatives to further the Catholic identity and strengthen the future of all diocesan ministries. He presided over the local Jubilee 2000 celebration of the Universal Church and the Centennial of the Diocese of Rockford in addition to many other milestone events.

On Sept. 2, 2000, the Holy Father recognized the Diocese of Rockford and Bishop Doran by naming him a member of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura. On March 2, 2001, Pope John Paul II named Bishop Doran a bishop

The ASSOCIATED PRESS NEW YORK – Dabney Montgomery, who served with the all-black Tuskegee Airmen in World War II and marched with civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., has died. He was 93.

His wife, Amelia Montgomery, said he died of natural causes Saturday morning at a Manhattan hospice care facility. He had lived in Harlem until he entered the facility Aug. 25.

Montgomery was born in Selma, Alabama, in 1923 and was inducted into

the armed forces in 1943. He served as a ground crewman with the Tuskegee Airmen in southern Italy during the war.

He attended Livingstone College in North Carolina on the GI bill and later moved to New York to find work.

Montgomery was active in the civil rights movement, serving as a bodyguard to King during the famous 1965 Selma to Montgomery march.

Amelia Montgomery said the heels of the shoes and the tie her husband wore on the Selma march will be part

of the permanent collection at the new National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C. , when it opens on Sept. 24.

Montgomery was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 2007 after President George W. Bush signed a law awarding the distinction to all original Tuskegee Airmen.

He worked for the New York City Housing Authority and as a volunteer outreach worker for a nonprofit that assists the elderly. Montgomery remained active until his final weeks.

Heller’s cousin, Gary Ballen, says Heller died Friday night at a hospital in Thousand Oaks, California, after suffering a heart attack while driving earlier in the day.

Heller co-founded Ruthless Records with Eazy-E, which released N.W.A’s seminal album “Straight Outta Compton” in 1988, launching the West Coast gangsta rap movement. Ruthless was also behind such artists as J.J. Fad, Michel’le and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony.

Bill inspired by Lt. Joe Gliniewicz case to deny pensions to convicted spouses gets second try

kcraver@shawmedia.com FOX LAKE – If Melodie Gliniewicz is convicted and still gets her disgraced late husband’s police pension, several General Assembly members want this incident to be the last of its kind.

A new effort is under way to pass a law that would allow for the forfeiture of survivor benefits for anyone convicted of a felony related to the service of any public employees hired after the law’s effective date. An effort earlier this year by state Sen. Pam Althoff, R-McHenry, stalled in the Senate, but state Rep. David McSweeney, R-Barrington Hills, is attempting it through a House bill.

He filed House Bill 6602 last Wednesday, almost one year to the day that Lt. Joe Gliniewicz was found shot to death responding to a call that turned out to be an elaborately-staged suicide meant to hide his criminal dealings.

The bill, if passed by lawmakers during the fall veto session, will not be applicable to Melodie Gliniewicz, who faces felony charges of money launder-

ing, conspiracy and misusing charitable funds relating to the village’s Police Explorers youth program, which her late husband ran.

While state law prevents convicted felons from receiving a pension if their criminal activity is related to their public service, Gliniewicz’s alleged crimes did not surface until after his death.

“Because Lt. Gliniewicz had passed away, there was no mechanism to prohibit his wife and family from receiving his pension benefits – there’s no statute that identifies this circumstance,” said Althoff, whose district includes Fox Lake.

Melodie Gliniewicz has pleaded not guilty – she faces a maximum of seven years in prison if found guilty on all charges. The village’s Police Pension Board is delaying its decision regarding granting her the pension until after her trial, which is scheduled for mid-November. Melodie Gliniewicz is eligible under the law for up to 75 percent of her late husband’s $96,000 salary.

Investigators concluded that he used the money for personal expenses such as personal loans, gym memberships, travel and adult websites, and attempted to put a hit out on the new village administrator who he feared would uncover his misdeeds. Gliniewicz also ille-

gally accumulated thousands of dollars in federal military surplus.

Documents released in the months after his death revealed that he was steadily promoted and given increased responsibilities, despite allegations of sexual harassment, threatening behaviors and problem drinking.

Although Fox Lake is not in McSweeney’s district, he said he wanted to prevent this kind of situation from happening elsewhere. Althoff already has pre-filed in the Senate to sponsor the bill should it pass the House.

Lawmakers have a small window to pass legislation during the veto session that begins after the Nov. 8 election. The bill can be re-filed with the new General Assembly when the spring session begins next January.

Fox Lake disbanded the Explorers program, and currently has no interest in resurrecting it.

Chung said her parents, Hyo Chul Chung and Jung Ok Chung, also have been extremely supportive. Her dad instilled a ‘Yes I Can’ attitude in her when she was younger, and she said she’s carried it with her ever since. “ ‘Yes I Can’ has always been there for me, even if I felt doubtful or really down on myself,” she said. “I have a disability, so what, I can do this.”

That confidence, Wolf said, is what he believes has made Chung so successful.

“She’s gained a real sense of purpose and confidence,” he said, adding Chung has become a leader at the training facility.

Chung will compete in the +70kg division the morning of Sept. 10, where it will be streamed online at NBC Sports Network.

CHICAGO – A federal lawsuit has raised questions about whether Illinois’ new Election Day voter registration rules are constitutional, a situation that could complicate how polling sites are run in November.

Illinois tested same-day registration in the 2014 governor’s race, with all election authorities required to offer it in at least one location. It was popular, with long lines on Election Night, particularly in Chicago. When lawmakers made same-day registration permanent the next year, they expanded it, ordering highly populated areas to make it available at all polls.

That change is at the heart of a federal lawsuit brought by Republicans, who argue it is an unfair and unequal system because voters in less populated and GOP-leaning areas don’t have equal access. They’re asking a judge to end all precinct-level Election Day registration, which would affect voters in 21 of 102 counties and five cities: Chicago, Aurora, Rockford, Bloomington and East St. Louis.

Off-duty officer grazed by bullet on Chicago street

CHICAGO – Authorities said a Chicago police officer is in good condition after being grazed by a bullet after work.

Chicago Police Department spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the officer was shot at from a car around 5 a.m.

The officer had finished his overnight shift and was driving when he noticed another vehicle speeding up behind him. The officer slowed to let the vehicle pass. The vehicle instead pulled alongside the officer’s car.

SPRINGFIELD – Olympic gold medalist Ryan Held has returned to the central Illinois YMCA where he got his start as a swimmer.

The State Journal-Register in Springfield reported that the 21-year-old Held got a warm welcome Saturday at the Springfield YMCA. More than 500 fans cheered Held celebrating his win last month at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

University of Illinois increasing salaries to avoid overtime

URBANA – The University of Illinois will spend $3 million in salary increases for about 400 postdoctoral research associates to avoid overtime charges the school otherwise would pay under a new federal rule.

Bruce Rauner’s foundation has donated to the group, and some in his administration previously worked there. Rauner’s spokeswoman didn’t return a request for comment.

Law professor Ann Lousin at John Marshall Law School in Chicago called it a “very good” constitutional case but with an “odd” twist as it seeks to end same-day registration at all polls instead of expanding it statewide.

“They don’t usually ask the court to take away the benefit from the other guy,” she said.

Dec. 1 means the annual salary threshold at which companies can deny overtime pay will be doubled from $23,660 to nearly $47,500.

The News-Gazette reported Sunday that interim Provost Edward Feser told faculty it would be impractical and costly to track researchers’ hours and pay them overtime. He said other universities are also adopting the new minimum salary for researchers.

Campus spokeswoman Robin Kaler said the average pay of research associates is $39,600.

Kaler said the money for the raises will come from existing research grants, in some cases.

Gang leader gets 12½ years in prison on heroin charges

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – A man accused by federal authorities of being the Michigan leader

of a Chicago-based gang has been sentenced to 12½ years in prison after being convicted of heroin distribution and conspiracy.

The Grand Rapids Press reported that assistant U.S. attorneys in court documents described Kenton Taylor as the highest-ranking member of the Black P Stone Nation gang in Michigan. They said the gang used religion to “gloss over” its actual mission of trafficking in drugs and guns.

Taylor and three others were charged with conspiracy to distribute more than 100 grams of heroin and heroin trafficking.

The others took plea deals. In addition to the prison sentence, U.S. District Judge Janet Neff on Wednesday also ordered Taylor to serve eight years on supervised release after being released from prison.

OMAHA, Neb. – The parents of the toddler who was killed by an alligator at Walt Disney World in Florida say they will always remember their sweet little boy.

Melissa and Matt Graves spoke to a group of several hundred people gathered at a high school football stadium Saturday to remember Lane Graves on what would have been his third birthday, The Omaha World-Herald reported.

Lane died June 14 after an alligator pulled him into a lagoon at Disney’s upscale Grand Floridian Resort. He was gathering sand for a sand castle when the alligator bit his head.

The final report on his death said the boy died from a crushing bite and drowning and that his dad reached into the alligator’s mouth to try to save the boy.

After Lane’s death, Disney made changes to restrict visitor contact with alligators on the property. Fences and other barriers were built around some of the lakes, and “No Fishing” signs were installed around waterfront areas. Disney World also limited fishing to excursions.

Turkey coop of Burt’s Bees co-founder to be saved

PARKMAN, Maine – The converted turkey coop that a co-founder of Burt’s Bees once called home in Maine is going to be saved and displayed at the company’s headquarters in North Carolina.

Burt’s Bees has bought the structure where Burt Shavitz once lived and has moved it to Durham, where it’s going on display this fall.

The 300-square-foot shelter with no running water is where Shavitz lived before finding fame through Burt’s Bees. He ended up back there when his house was damaged by fire in February 2015.

G-20 summit opens amid sluggish growth, trade

HANGZHOU, China – The American and Chinese presidents are calling on major economies to defend free trade at a summit held as sluggish growth and disputes over steel and other imports fuel demands in the United States and Europe to protect local industry.

Opening the Group of 20 meeting, Chinese President Xi Jinping appealed Sunday for governments to resist pressure to raise trade barriers. At the same time, a European leader highlighted the conflicts looming over the summit by calling for action on China’s bloated steel industry.

China made trade a theme of the gathering in this lakeside city southwest of Shanghai even as it faces complaints a flood of low-cost steel exports are threatening U.S. and European jobs, fueling demands for trade curbs.

“We should build an open world economy,” Xi said before an audience that included U.S. President Barack Obama, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, British Prime Minister Theresa May and leaders from Japan, South Korea, India and other governments.

Governments should “avoid taking new protectionist measures” and “take effective action to promote trade growth,” Xi said.

Xi called for innovation to spur growth and reforms to global financial and economic management. He appealed for cooperation in taxes and fighting corruption, and for measures to “improve the ability of the world economy to resist risks.”

China hopes its status as this year’s G-20

leader will increase its influence in global economic management. Chinese officials want the G-20, created to respond to the 2008 financial crisis, to take on a longer-term regulatory role.

Other leaders have called for “inclusive growth” - a reference to efforts to spread the benefits of closer global integration to millions of people who have been left behind by wrenching change.

Obama stressed that theme at a separate news conference with May. “We must all work together to spur economic growth, to boost free trade and build a fairer economy that truly works for all,” said Obama.

Also Sunday, the president of the European Union’s governing body, the European Commission, called for action on China’s bloated steel industry.

The G-20 meeting “must urgently find a solution” to excess steel production, said JeanClaude Juncker. He called on Beijing to accept a monitoring mechanism for overproduction that Beijing’s trading partners blame for low prices and job losses.

China, the world’s biggest steel producer, has committed to reducing its production capacity by 100 to 150 million tons by 2020, a pledge Xi repeated Saturday.

“Free trade must be fair trade,” Juncker said at a news conference with Donald Tusk, president of the European Council.

Another prominent issue at the summit is G-20 member Britain’s June vote to leave the 28-nation EU, seen by some analysts as the first in a wave of moves by other nations to retreat from free trade.

Hermine spins away from East Coast, batters shore with waves

The Associated Press NORFOLK, Va. – Hermine spun away from the East Coast on Sunday, removing the threat of heavy rain but maintaining enough power to whip up dangerous waves and rip currents and keep beaches off-limits to disappointed swimmers and surfers during the Labor Day weekend.

As it churned hundreds of miles off shore in the Atlantic Ocean, the system picked up strength, and forecasters said it could regain hurricane force later as it travels up the coast. It was expected to stall over the water before weakening again to a tropical storm by Tuesday.

“It’s just going to meander for a few days,” said Dennis Feltgen of the National Hurricane Center, explaining that Hermine was unlikely to make landfall again but was positioned to batter the coast with wind and waves.

Governors all along the Eastern Seaboard announced emergency preparations. Tropical storm watches and warnings were in effect from Virginia to Massachusetts, with special concern focused on New Jersey and Delaware, where Rehoboth Beach could experience gusts up to 50 mph and life-threatening storm surges during high tide late Sunday and into Monday.

On the Virginia Beach boardwalk, the Atlantic Ocean roared with uncharacteristically large waves, drawing only a couple of surfers into the choppy white water. But hundreds, if not thousands of people, had descended onto the beach for the traditional last weekend of summer. Umbrellas and canopies dotted the sand under partly sunny skies.

Hermine failed to stop Barb and Don Willis of Buffalo, New York, from en-

joying the trip they booked months ago.

They even braved the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel on Saturday as the wind whipped their car and the bay rose close to the bridge’s bottom.

“That was so scary,” Barb Willis said. “Oh my God. My hands were white knuckles, and the water was so high. It was horrible.”

The couple, both in their 60s, said they knew the storm would blow over, even as friends texted their concerns.

Tropical storm-force winds were possible Monday in New Jersey. Gov. Chris Christie warned that minor to moderate flooding still was likely in coastal areas and said the storm will cause major problems, even as it tracks away from land.

“Don’t be lulled by the nice weather,” Christie said, referring to the bright sunny skies along the Jersey Shore on Sunday. “Don’t think that nothing is going to happen, because something is going to happen.”

New York City planned to close its beaches Monday because of rip currents, and the ban could extend into Tuesday, depending on weather conditions, officials said.

Long Island authorities urged people to evacuate the summer getaway known as Fire Island to avoid any storm surge and coastal flooding. Emergency officials warned that anyone who stays will not be able to leave after ferries shut down Sunday evening.

Hermine rose up over the Gulf of Mexico and hit Florida on Friday as a Category 1 hurricane before weakening to a tropical storm across Georgia. It has caused two deaths, inflicted widespread property damage and knocked out power to hundreds of thousands of people from Florida to Virginia.

“Her heart, she gave it to the world,” said Charlotte Samba, a 52-year-old mother of three who traveled with a church group from Gabon for the Mass.

“Mercy, forgiveness, good works: It is the heart of a mother for the poor.”

VATICAN CITY – Elevating the “saint of the gutters” to one of the Catholic Church’s highest honors, Pope Francis on Sunday praised Mother Teresa for her radical dedication to society’s outcasts and her courage in shaming world leaders for the “crimes of poverty they themselves created.”

An estimated 120,000 people filled St. Peter’s Square for the canonization ceremony, less than half the number who turned out for her 2003 beatification. It was nevertheless the highlight of Francis’ Holy Year of Mercy and quite possibly one of the defining moments of his mercy-focused papacy.

Francis has been dedicated to ministering to society’s most marginal, from prostitutes to prisoners, refugees to the homeless. In that way, while the canonization of “St. Teresa of Kolkata” was a celebration of her life and work, it also was something of an affirmation of Francis’ own papal priorities, which have earned him praise and criticism alike.

“Let us carry her smile in our hearts and give it to those whom we meet along our journey, especially those who suffer,” Francis said in his homily.

Born Agnes Gonxhe Bojaxhiu on Aug. 26, 1910, Teresa came to India in 1929 as a sister of the Loreto order. In 1946, she received what she described as a “call within a call” to found a new order dedicated to caring for the most unloved and unwanted, the “poorest of the poor” in the slums of her adopted city, Kolkata.

The Missionaries of Charity order went on to become one of the most wellknown in the world, with more than 4,000 sisters in their trademark bluetrimmed white saris doing as Teresa instructed: “small things with great love.”

At the order’s Mother House in Kolkata, hundreds of people watched the Mass on TV and clapped with joy when Francis declared her a saint.

They gathered around Teresa’s tomb which was decorated with flowers, a single candle and a photo of the wrinkled saint.

“I am so proud to be from Kolkata,” said Sanjay Sarkar, a high school student on hand for the celebration.

“Mother Teresa belonged to Kolkata, and she has been declared a saint.”

For Francis, Teresa put into action his ideal of the church as a “field hospital” for those suffering both material and spiritual poverty, living on the

North Korea’s weak spot

Barack Obama and Xi Jinping have obvious disagreements over how to handle North Korea’s illicit weapons program. China is angry about U.S. plans to deploy advanced missile defenses in South Korea to counter the threat, while Obama faces pressure to sanction Chinese banks and companies that help sustain Kim Jong Un’s nuclear ambitions. But the two presidents still have plenty of room to cooperate on this issue, if they can zero in on actions that are in both countries’ interests.

North Korea’s successful recent launch of a seabased ballistic missile is depressing proof that the country continues to improve its weapons systems, despite the punishing additional sanctions that the United Nations imposed in March. And it is indeed tempting to blame China.

Yet the evidence that China isn’t upholding the most recent sanctions is, at best, mixed; along the border, there are as many signs that China’s longstanding commercial ties with the North have frayed. While violations no doubt continue, at least some of them are probably due to local officials’ ignoring central government diktats – an all-too-familiar problem.

In any case, it’s unrealistic to expect China to squeeze Kim hard enough to cause the North Korean regime to collapse. That’s simply not in China’s interests. Yet China does share the U.S. desire to prevent key nuclear and ballistic-missile technology from reaching the North.

The bad news, as new research points out, is that North Korea has recruited more sophisticated and capable Chinese middlemen to source and deliver such so-called dual-use technology. Rather than travel back and forth across the border, North Korean agents now live in China and work almost entirely through these intermediaries, using Chinese banks.

The good news is that this in theory makes it easier to disrupt the agents’ operations. Rather than demand that Chinese leaders abandon Kim’s regime, the U.S. should press them to rein in these middlemen as energetically as they would any other citizens who defy their authority.

The U.S. could offer to bolster China’s ability to inspect cargo at ports near the border and to track ship traffic to and from North Korea. American officials would want to simultaneously do more to help Southeast Asian governments monitor North Korean agents operating in their countries, so the weapons trade doesn’t just move south. China may be in no mood to cooperate. But if its leaders really want to undermine the case for missile defense, they’d be wise to do all they can to make sure Kim’s – Bloomberg View missiles don’t work.

One Cook County millionaire financing Walkup’s campaign for McHenry County Board. Seems really fishy. Walkup should tell the voters why he is almost exclusively funded with Cook County money.

Walkup, the old Democrat, has brought dirty Chicago politics to McHenry County. It cannot be good for the voters.

Help doctor find time to treat Dear Dr. K: I like my doctor and I trust his judgment, but I don’t feel he really listens to me or explains things. What can I do, besides look for another doctor?

Dear Reader: Like every doctor, I am a patient as well as a doctor. I think I can see things from both perspectives. Let me respond first as a patient.

If you like and trust your doctor, I’d recommend you put him to the test before looking for another. At your next visit, gently but firmly make certain things clear: Suppose he says something you don’t understand. Tell him you’re sorry, but you don’t understand. Ask him to explain it again.

Suppose he recommends a particular diagnostic test or treatment. If you’re concerned about the risk, the cost or something else, tell him that, and explain why. If he mentions risks, be sure he tells you how likely the risks are.

(Don’t expect a precise answer, but ask for a rough estimate: one in 10, one in 100, one in 1,000?)

Suppose, after hearing the answer, you don’t like the doctor’s recommended test or treatment. Then ask him whether there are any other options you both should consider.

Suppose you’re dealing with a potentially serious illness, or a test or treatment that has serious risks – a diagnosis of cancer, or a major operation, for example.

If you’re not sure you agree with the option your doctor has suggested, you always can seek a second opinion. This is not something to do lightly: At least initially, you won’t have the same level of trust for another physician, since you won’t know him or her as well as you know your doctor.

In that case, I’d start looking for another doctor.

Now let me respond as a doctor. One of the hardest things for us is finding the time to do everything we need to do during a patient visit, given the time we have. That includes time for listening and explaining. You can help your doctor by making your time with him as efficient as possible.

If you have a chronic illness, remember the questions your doctor asks you at most visits. Be ready to answer the same questions at this visit.

For example, if you have diabetes, think about whether you have symptoms that could indicate heart problems, such as chest pain or feeling as though you might pass out.

If you tend to forget what the doctor said at the visit, consider bringing someone with you – a spouse, adult child or friend. That person can help make sure certain questions get asked. He or she also can take notes while you speak with your doctor.

The time you spend with your doctor is precious to both of you, so come prepared to make the most of your visit.

DEAR ABBY I am a retired librarian who Jeanne lives in Texas. I Phillips am what around here is called “Anglo,” meaning white and not Hispanic. I speak four languages, with varying degrees of proficiency.

Recently, a friend who is Hispanic told me if an Anglo speaks Spanish to a Hispanic person, it’s considered an insult because it implies the Hispanic person is “too stupid” to learn English. I had never heard of this before, so I asked a retired college-level Spanish teacher who is also Anglo. She informed me Hispanic people use the language difference as a “boundary,” and my speaking Spanish to them was a violation of their boundaries.

If it has been several generations, the people you are addressing might identify more as English speakers than Spanish speakers, and consider your addressing them in Spanish to be condescending because it implies you don’t think they have learned English.

So the rule of thumb would be: Assume everyone speaks English; then if it turns out they don’t, use their language.

Here, East must lead a diamond away from the queen, so the slam makes. But note that if East can safely play a spade or a club, declarer still has the diamond finesse available.

here are three daily countdowns ticking away inside Valerie Tarazi’s phone, and each day the Prairie Ridge junior copies those numbers from her phone to a big whiteboard at the end of her bed.

She looks at those reminders daily, so at any moment she can tell you how many days remain until the IHSA state meet, U.S. Junior Nationals and U.S. Olympic Trials.

“That’s how I keep motivated,” Tarazi said. “But really, I take it one meet, one event at a time. I go up there, race that event, look at my event, see how I did in my event, analyze it, talk to my coach, everything, and then I go out and focus on the next event. It’s baby steps to get to your ultimate goal, and that’s what I really focus on.”

Last year, Tarazi became only the second swimmer in McHenry County history to win a state title, winning the 100-yard breaststroke and taking second in the 200 individual medley. Now, for the first time in area history, the girls swimming season begins with a defending state champion, but Tarazi doesn’t seem to be feeling any pressure.

“Winning state was an amazing experience, and I know I’m going to have really tough competition going into this year, but that just makes me want to work that much harder,” Tarazi said.

“There’s no pressure – if I win, I win. I just have to go out there and do my own thing.”

The countdown to the 2016 state meet began about 110 days out, Tarazi said, sometime just before Junior Nationals, which were her big goal of the late summer.

After a summer filled with U.S. Olympic Trials and Junior Nationals, Tarazi got a full nine days off before the high school season.

“I really took that time, I’ve probably taken 15 days off in the last 18 months, so when I got those nine days off in a row, it was really nice to just sit back, relax, and I’m fully ready for high school season,” she said.

On the team side of things, Tarazi leads a Crystal Lake co-op team that once again should to be one of the area’s best. In addition to Tarazi, Crystal Lake brings back conference champions Paige Dalbke (100 breaststroke) and

Rhiannon Wozny (500 freestyle), has four senior captains, and freshman Jamie Gindorf has received early positive reviews.

Although the Crystal Lake team ran the table in the Fox Valley Conference last season, Crystal Lake co-op coach Stephanie Wozny thinks McHenry is year’s early favorite, mainly because of the Warriors’ depth.

Sophomore Payton Lange, the area’s other returning state qualifier, leads the Warriors, along with her older sister, Hannah Lange, who is trying to get back to state after missing out last year.

Caileigh McCafferty finished top three in two events last year at the FVC Meet and will be another state hopeful for the Warriors.

“They look pretty strong,” first-year girls coach Craig Fowles said. “As compared to the rest of the girls teams, I have no idea, I haven’t seen them. … To judge against anybody else, I don’t have input. As far as putting up a starting 12 for varsity that are all decent swimmers, absolutely. Probably a deeper team than I’ve ever had with the boys I’d say. That

Other local challengers include Cary-Grove, which finished fifth at the conference meet last season but brings back a conference champion in Ashlynn Baker and welcomes freshman Ayden Donfris, who should compete immediately, and the Jacobs/Hampshire co-op, which took third in the FVC last year and is led by one-time state qualifier Izzy Bavaro.

Considering the amount of talent coming back for a number of teams, coaches are hoping the area can improve on last year’s three state qualifiers. And with the season beginning last week, that state meet now is fewer than 70 days away, as Tarazi would tell you.

PR, past its top 2 rivals, has small ‘problem’

joestevenson@shawmedia.com Football teams across the state would love to be faced with Prairie Ridge’s “problem.”

The Wolves started the season regarded as one of the best three teams in the Fox Valley Conference and already have conquered the other two, Cary-Grove and Huntley. There are several other quality teams in the FVC and seven remaining regular-season games, but Prairie Ridge is in an enviable position.

Wolves coach Chris Schremp knows what the team must do now.

“It’s a matter of keeping the guys focused now, keep them focused the next seven weeks,” Schremp said. “Every team has a [Division I] player, and those players can turn a game around.

We just haveW to keep level-headed.”

After reaching the Class 6A playoffs semifinals last season, the Wolves want more and are aware of what they could do.

“We can’t take any team lightly,” quarterback Samson Evans said. “We have to keep working and get ready for the playoffs.”

There are solid teams remaining on Prairie Ridge’s schedule, but the Wolves will be decisive favorites every week until the playoffs start.

Good call: Schremp gave tight end Austen Ferbet credit for the Wolves’ second touchdown in their 31-20 victory over Huntley on Friday. Ferbet mentioned a play he thought would work after seeing how Huntley was lining up on certain plays.

Sources: Bears release all-time points leader Gould

ajahns@suntimes.com It’s Robbie Gould and then everybody else. Even the most famous Bears kicker of all time, Kevin Butler of 1985 Bears fame, sees it that way.

When Gould was on the verge of breaking Butler’s all-time points record with the Bears last season, Butler showered Gould with compliments.

In doing so, Butler even mentioned Gould in the same breath as Bears legend Walter Payton.

“He’s representing one of the best franchises in professional sports and certainly in football,” Butler said in an interview with the Sun-Times in October 2015.

“And when you can have your name

at the top of any list that has Walter Payton on it, you’ve got something special.”

On Sunday, “something special” came to an abrupt and unceremonious end. League sources said the Bears have informed Gould of his release.

Gould will be replaced by veteran kicker Connor Barth, who officially will join the Robbie Gould Bears on Monday.

Gould’s release came down to a matter of recent production and economics.

His struggles in training camp carried over into preseason games. It included missing two extra points in the Bears’ final exhibition in Cleveland.

Gould also missed six field goals last

season, including a potential game-winner against the 49ers.

From a financial standpoint, Gould was entering the third year of a fouryear, $15 million extension he signed under former general manager Phil Emery in 2014. It included $4.9 million guaranteed.

He was slated to have the highest salary-cap hit among kickers this season at $4.1 million. Releasing Gould saves the Bears $3 million. The Bears had salary-cap space, but they did sign All-Pro guard Josh Sitton to a three-year contract late Sunday.

Still, nothing diminishes the Gould’s place in Bears history.

Gould holds franchise records for career points (1,207), field goals made (276) and field goals of 50 yards or more (23).

He was set to begin his 12th NFL season the ninth most accurate kicker in NFL history (85.4 percent, 276 for 323).

Butler always marveled at how well he kicked on the lakefront at Soldier Field.

“The bottom line is that his consistency in that environment really ranks among the top of the NFL,” Butler said in last year’s interview with the SunTimes. “It’s just uncanny.

“I couldn’t be more proud of Robbie to do what he’s done in his career at Chicago. He’s just been consistent to a new level.”

Bears players trusted Gould. It was a surprise whenever he missed. He also had a certain edge to him. He knew every detail of special teams. And he excelled under pressure.

MINNEAPOLIS – These past five weeks have been as good as it gets for Jose Abreu.

For the White Sox, who defeated the Minnesota Twins, 13-11, in 12 innings Sunday, there’s no other way to put it – the surge is coming too late.

Even with the victory, they once again are playing games in September that – as has been their custom for almost every season since they won the World Series 11 years ago – are not meaningful aside from individual accomplishments and laying groundwork for next year.

But this stretch has had purpose for Abreu.

The consolation?

Abreu has been fixed, his confidence has returned and the Sox can plan accordingly for 2017 expecting him to be a 30-homer, 100-RBI producer.

“He’s swinging it like how you really expect it from him,” manager Robin Ventura said. “It’s really free and easy

right now. Even the home runs are more indicative of him. He’s feeling pretty good about being in the middle of our lineup driving in runs.”

Abreu continued his tear by driving in a career-high seven runs with two three-run homers sandwiched around an RBI single. He has soared up the Sox’s RBI ladder since the beginning of August, and he finished the Sox’s disappointing 2-5 road trip through Jose Abreu Detroit and Minnesota having caught Todd Frazier with the team lead in RBIs with 86.

On the road trip, Abreu hit for a .412/.412/.794 slash line with four homers and 13 RBIs. He is batting .370 with 11 homers and 30 RBIs in his past 31 games. He had 11 homers going into August.

Abreu’s homer in the first inning gave the Sox a 3-0 lead against lefthander Andrew Albers. His second homer, off Taylor Rogers in the seventh, got the Sox within 9-8. The Twins got

one back on Miguel Sano’s home run against Matt Albers in the bottom of the seventh, and the Sox back to within one on Adam Eaton’s RBI groundout in the eighth.

Avisail Garcia’s two-run single against Brandon Kintzler in the ninth pushed across the tying and go-ahead runs, but David Robertston suffered his seventh blown save in the bottom of the inning, walking the leadoff hitter Sano and giving up an RBI double to Kurt Suzuki that scored pinch runner Logan Schafer.

Tim Anderson’s two-run double in the 12th put the Sox in front by a pair.

Juan Minaya (1-0), a September call-up Thursday, earned his first major league win by pitching a scoreless 11th. When he walked the first two batters in the 12th, Ventura called on Tommy Kahnle, who picked up his first save of the season and third of his career, the game ending after four hours, 45 minutes on Eddie Rosario’s sharp grounder that caromed off Kahnle to third baseman Frazier with the bases loaded.

CHICAGO – The magic number for Cubs manager Joe Maddon always is 1.

Even as his team edges closer to clinching a playoff spot as the likely NL Central Division champ, the game of the day is the most important.

That’s true even if the Cubs aren’t facing a potential postseason rival such as the San Francisco Giants, who are in their own fight to reach the postseason.

“You have to stay mentally focused to the last drop,” Maddon said.

The last drop didn’t come until the 13th inning Sunday, when the hitting hero of the day, Jason Heyward, drove in the winning run of the 3-2 walk-off win.

“My take is we have the lead we do because we’ve played [all season] the way we did [against the Giants],” Maddon said of taking three out of four in the series. “Nobody is mailing anything in. Nobody’s taking anything for granted. We’re taking it one game at a time.”

There were many heroes in the series finale.

Starter John Lackey pitched twohit ball through five innings in his return from the disabled list. Seven relief pitchers followed, holding the Giants

to only two more hits, with Trevor Cahill (4-4) getting the win.

But the man wearing the brightest badge was Heyward, whose hard-luck season at the plate has been a side story all year.

After committing only his second error of the season in the second that allowed an unearned Giants run, Heyward drove in all three for the Cubs.

“It feels good to help,” he said of a 3-for-6 day and first walk-off RBI since Aug. 18, 2010. “The Jason Heyward error (dropping Hunter Pence’s fly ball) stayed with me about a second, but seeing how the wind was playing, I just overran it.

It happens. You keep playing and you have to keep being a part of the game.”

Lackey shook off the miscue and Heyward’s apology. “He’s played Gold Glove defense all year. I’ll take that guy out there every day of the week,” Lackey said.

Lackey didn’t allow a hit until the fifth, a double by Eduardo Nunez that turned into the only other Giants run.

Delle Donne scores 35, Sky beat Stars for 4th straight win

ROSEMONT – Elena Delle Donne made 12 of 20 shots and scored 35 points to help the Sky beat the San Antonio Stars, 97-73, Sunday night for their fourth straight victory.

The Sky were ahead, 73-63, after three quarters, and Delle Donne scored 10 of the Sky’s first 11 points of the fourth for an 84-67 lead.

Ravens agree on 1-year deal with punt returner Hester

OWINGS MILLS, Md.– The Baltimore Ravens and kick returner Devin Hester have reached agreement on a one-year contract.

Over a 10-year career Hester has returned 20 kicks for touchdowns, the most in NFL history. Selected to four Pro Bowls, the 33-year-old has played in 144 games with the Bears and Atlanta.

Hester has scored an NFL-record 14 touchdowns on punt returns. He also has returned five kickoffs for TDs and scored on a 108-yard missed field goal attempt.

Casey eagles 18th for 3-shot lead at Deutsche Bank

NORTON, Mass. – Paul Casey finished with a birdie and an eagle over the last three holes Sunday for a 5-under-par 66 and a three-shot lead going into the Labor Day finish at the Deutsche Bank Championship.

Casey hit 7-iron into 5 feet for birdie on the par-3 16th, and then he drilled a 3-iron into the swirling wind on the par-5 18th that worked out perfectly. It landed just left of the green, caught a ridge and rolled to 30 inches for the eagle.

Casey was at 15-under 198 as the 39-year-old Englisman goes for his first PGA Tour in seven years.

Brian Harman had a 68 and was three shots behind. PGA champion Jimmy Walker recovered from a rough start for a 70 and was four shots behind along with Smylie Kaufman (68) and Kevin Chappell (71), who had the lead until he was derailed by a double bogey on the 12th hole.

DARLINGTON, S.C. – Martin Truex Jr. took the lead with 28 laps to go and held off Kevin Harvick on the final restart to win the Southern 500 on Sunday night.

Truex started the summer season by leading an astounding 588 of 600 miles to win at Charlotte on Memorial Day weekend. He closed the season by outracing Harvick on Labor Day weekend for his second crown jewel win of the season.

Truex pulled up to the inside wall to greet his crew, then taking off for some celebration donuts at the track “Too Tough To Tame.”

Harvick had the dominant car – he led 214 of 367 laps Martin – but this run was Truex Jr. cut short by slow pit stops. At one point, Harvick fell 11 spots from first to 12th after a super slow 16.6-second stop. He battled back toward the top, but could not chase down Truex.

Last week’s winner at Michigan, Kyle Larson, finished third and Denny Hamlin was fourth. Joey Logano was fifth, followed by Matt Kenseth, Kasey Kahne, Ryan Newman, Brad Keselowski and Chase Elliott.

Truex moved past leader Newman on lap 339 to take the lead and stayed in front on a final restart to win another of what was once considered of one of NASCAR’s most-prized races.

“This is unbelieveable,” Truex said. “I’ve always loved this race track. I’ve led a lot of laps here and I feel like something always happens.

I’m proud to get to victory lane with this group.”

It’s the second time in the past six Southern 500s that single-car Furniture Row Racing wound up in victory lane. Regan Smith stunned the Sprint Cup garage in 2011 with his win here.

Truex, who made last year’s championship Chase and is locked in this year, is no surprise – and might have stamped himself a significant contender for the Sprint Cup crown.

“It was definitely worth the wait,” he said.

AUSTIN, Texas – Tyrone Swoopes scored on a lunging 6-yard touchdown run in the second overtime, giving Texas a 50-47 victory over No. 10 Notre Dame on Sunday night.

The Texas quarterback broke a tackle, burst up the middle and stretched the ball across the line as the Longhorns earned a huge victory for embattled coach Charlie Strong after two losing seasons.

Freshman Shane Buechele got the start over Swoopes, but the senior played a huge role in Texas’ running game with two scores and big runs that punished Notre Dame defenders in overtime.

Buechele, the first freshman quarterback to start a Longhorns season opener since Bobby Layne in 1944, was impressive, with 280 yards passing and two long touchdown throws.

“I said a year ago we probably would have lost that football game because we didn’t know how to finish,” Strong said.

“You knew [Buechele] could handle it.

You knew the stage wouldn’t be too big.”
