It is my hope that this Passport will be your resource for local food, fun, and travel in the coming year! I also hope it serves as your quick reference when you need a plumber, realtor, lawyer, or other business service.

As a resident of the Wonder Lake community for more than 50 years, I know and love this region. And I understand how businesses and communities working together can create vibrant, safe, and happy places to work and live.

Our Chamber includes the villages of Richmond, Spring Grove, Fox Lake, and Volo as well as the neighboring communities. Although the villages’ combined populations are less than 30,000 the region serves hundreds of thousands of commuters and travelers each year headed between Chicago and Wisconsin. We changed the name of the publication this year to highlight the diversity of services and recreational opportunities that exist right here in our own communities.

Sitting on 7,100 acres of land connecting 15 lakes and 45 miles of rivers, Fox Lake is proud to be considered the “Heart of the Chain O’Lakes.” Incorporated on Dec. 15, 1906, Fox Lake is home to 10,978 residents who embrace it’s a rich tradition and history, while simultaneously striving for progress. The Village boasts natural scenery, unique businesses, delectable eateries, and unlimited waterway recreation.

An aquatic sanctuary, Fox Lake is home to ten exceptional marinas, offering over 1,000 boat slips. Every year the Village welcomes over

230,000 unique visitors by boat. Residents and visitors alike enjoy boating, boat races, various watersports, and year-round fishing. Fox Lake hosts dozens of community events including the Farmer’s Market, Friday Night Summer Concert Series, Fox Lake Triathlon, and many more. Thousands of people come together to “Celebrate Fox Lake,” the Village’s Annual Independence Day parade, followed by an evening of food, drinks, live music, and the best fireworks display in the area. Mayor Donny Schmit and the Village Board are an inclusive and welcoming governing body that promotes a business-friendly

environment. The Village Board consists of the Mayor, six Trustees, and a Village Clerk. The Board convenes on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month, at 7:00 p.m. at the Village Hall, located at 66 Thillen Dr.. The Board encourages community engagement and welcomes participation from residents and community stakeholders. All meetings are open to the public.

A Charming Small Town with Delights at Every Corner

Richmond is the ideal destination if you’re seeking a historic downtown with a delightful array of locally owned dining options, craft cocktails, oldfashioned ice cream, handmade chocolates, artisanal coffee, and unique boutiques. Situated on the state-line, Richmond also features a biking and riding trail right through it’s center, meticulously restored historical homes and a gateway to outdoor fun.

Richmond is a quintessential small town with a big heart. Once dubbed the “Village of Yesteryear,” Richmond embraces change while preserving its rich heritage.

Richmond’s downtown business district features a variety of women-owned and family-owned businesses, offering a blend of both new ventures and beloved community staples. The recently renovated brick face Memorial Hall serves as an exquisite event space now known as The District. There are two sought-after Airbnb

Spring Grove Spring Grove

Nestled within the beautiful surrounds of Northern Illinois and divided by the meandering Nippersink Creek, Spring Grove is one of the fastest growing municipalities in McHenry County. The Village’s current population is 5,487. Years of careful planning have rewarded the Village with an increase in both commercial and light industrial development. Increased residential developments have provided the Village with a high-quality selection of housing.

Spring Grove is proud to be the home of the Annual Fourth of July Celebration. This celebration kicks off at noon with a parade and ends with a fireworks display in the

evening. People attend both events from surrounding communities and states.

The Community Engagement committee was created in 2020 to promote resident involvement, engagement, and fellowship within the village by providing affordable and informal community events. These events include the Farmers Market, Kick Off to Summer, Craft Beer Festival, Oktoberfest, Trunk or Treat and Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony. The Village operates under a Village form of government. The elected officials consist of a President and six Trustees. All are elected to four-year terms. These officials are elected at-large, which is what makes

Spring Grove a village rather than a city. The Municipal Centre is located at 7401 Meyer Rd. and is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Services offered at the Municipal Centre include building permits, notary, vehicle stickers, voters registration, and general information.

The Village meets two times a month on the first and third Tuesday of the month at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the Municipal Centre located at 7401 Meyer Rd.. All Meetings are open to the public.

Elote Festival August 25, 26, and 27th

Save the dates for the ultimate cultural experience! Maizito & Village of Round Lake Beach are back with the much-awaited Elote Festival. Join us from Friday, August 25th through Sunday, August 27th, 2023 at the Cultural & Civic Center Grounds and have a blast with Spanish and English music, national acts, tons of elote vendors, and entertainment for children.

That’s not all, the carnival runs for all three days! On Saturday, August 26th, Los Chicos del 512 are back with The Selena Experience! Friday will feature the Elote Queens pageant, Latin Dance Lessons and La Sonora Dinamita, cumbia band. Sunday, will cover a mix of English and Spanish bands. Best of all, admission is free!

The Fox Waterway Agency was created to improve and maintain the Fox River and Chain O’Lakes waterway for recreational uses, restore environmental quality, manage flooding, promote tourism, and enhance the quality of life along the waterway for residents and users alike.

Working with local partners the FWA helps to maintain the 15 Interconnected Lakes, nearly 500 miles of shoreline, and 70 Miles of Rivers and Channels that make up the system.

The FWA is currently working on several exciting initiatives to bring in much needed additional funding to further enhance our abilities to remove an estimated 100,000+

cubic yards of sedimentation that enter our waterway each year and minimize future sedimentation.

Keeping the system navigable allows our 23,000+ sticker holders to enjoy boating, kayaking, watersports, fishing, hunting and also enjoy dozens of Restaurants and waterbased events that happen on waterway every year.
