It’s an exhibit for and by the people – made in reaction to the state’s budget crisis after the museum was emptied out earlier this month because of a lapse in insurance, Lockport Gallery Manager John Lustig said.

Within only two days of the city of Lockport issuing a news release calling on artists to submit work, Lustig said the response has been overwhelming, with 125 Illinois artists submitting 250 pieces.

“This is incredible,” Lustig said. “This is almost like we’ve let everyone decide what we exhibit. And it’s fun.”

Lustig said he’s received work from all over the region, including from Joliet Junior College and Julia Haw, a Chicago artist whose work was featured in the gallery before it closed.

Haw said she’s created a new exhibit specifically for the event titled “Chicago Relic.” She said it’s her take on what society will be left with if the Illinois State Museum system and “all of the

What are we left with?’ ” she said. “We’d be left with the extremely mundane. It’s a permanent solution to alleviate temporary problems.”

The space was cleared out

with the start of the current fiscal year, which began July 1, when the Illinois State Museum system’s insurance that covers traveling or loaned items lapsed because of the state budget stalemate in Springfield.

Local officials said the goal is to fill the walls from floor to ceiling, end-to-end, fitted together like a jigsaw puzzle – as a way to send a message to lawmakers and Gov. Bruce Rauner. The plan is to have the work on display during the city’s Summer Art Series.

Lustig said while there’s much uncertainty looming with proposed cuts to the Illinois State Museum’s five branches, including Lockport, he’s overwhelmed by how everyone has come together to support the museum.

“It’s strange times, and I just wanted to thank people,” Lustig said. “If we are going to be closed, and the budget cuts go through, I want to at least thank the community. What a perfect way.”

The event’s sponsors include the city of Lockport, Embers Tap House and Tall Grass Restaurant. Embers Tap House will provide beverages with all proceeds going to the Lockport Gallery.

OLIET – Heavy rains this summer caused delays in the construction of the Joliet Central High School Student Center, but the project is on track to finish by the end of the year.

It’s one of the biggest projects a Will County school district has worked on this summer. Several districts have embarked on projects to either improve their facilities or create more amenities.

The Joliet Central student center, part of a $28 million building project that began last year, will expand cafeteria seating from 350 to 500, and create a bookstore, technology help desk counter and more collaboration spaces.

School officials have said it will provide a “21st century learning” environment for students.

The project is between 60 to 70 percent done, said Ilandus Hampton, Joliet Township High School District 204 business services assistant superintendent. Construction work for the kitchen, cafeteria, atrium foundation are complete.

“We’re on schedule, and we’re on budget,” he said.

The student center and galleria construction are one of the last phases of the threephase project.

Before construction began in June 2014, the Infant Child Care Center was relocated out of the Little Theatre building to Collins Street, and the Little Theatre was demolished in February 2014.

Hampton said the district is making sure the student center addition architecture is consistent with Joliet Central.

“Part of it, of course, is to continue the historical preservation. We currently have met with the Joliet Central archives committee because Joliet Central is on the national registry [of historic places],” he said.

JTHS school officials also are working on adding a permanent concession stand for Central that is slated to open the third week of August,

Hampton said.

In the past, Central only had mobile concession stands.

Plainfield, Lockport school projects

Unlike last year, Lockport Township High School District 205 pursued only maintenance projects this summer.

The pizza was bought through a cruise night tent set up by Fat Ricky’s One World Pizza located just north of Uptown Square, or the future downtown center of Romeoville at the southwest corner of Route 53 and Phelps Avenue.

More than 70 classic, vintage and modern cars filled the southern parking lot spaces of Uptown Square on Thursday at “Cruisin’ the Square.”

“We’ve been to car shows in other places,” said Woltz, a Romeoville resident. “I’m glad to see it here.”

Afterward, Woltz and his son went to Fat Ricky’s – this time the restaurant – for dinner.

CenterPoint seeks dismissal of lawsuit brought by Elwood

By LAUREN LEONE-CROSS lleonecross@shawmedia.com ELWOOD – CenterPoint Properties is seeking to dismiss the charges levied in the Village of Elwood’s latest allegations that the Oak Brookbased developer illegally destroyed essential documents and overbilled the village in its spending of tax increment financing subsidies.

Wednesday’s filing in Cook County Circuit Court is the most recent development in an ongoing dispute between CenterPoint and the village.

At the root of Elwood’s lawsuit is a Tax Increment Financing agreement reached in 2000 after the village annexed a portion of the former Joliet Arsenal and designated it a TIF

district.

CenterPoint opened the Deer Run Industrial Park in Elwood more than a decade ago through the creation of the $88 million TIF subsidy – which increased to $110 million in 2003.

In the village’s complaint earlier this month, Elwood argued the developer destroyed essential documents, making it impossible for the village to adequately inspect them to see how CenterPoint spent those TIF dollars.

But Michael Murphy, chief development officer for CenterPoint, said Thursday that CenterPoint gave Elwood “everything we had.” Murphy added that CenterPoint alone is at risk for nonpayment of the TIF notes if the industri-

al park doesn’t create enough new tax revenue.

He also said CenterPoint has spent well over the $110 million to improve the site.

The motion states CenterPoint has spent more than $627 million associated with the project, while having only submitted $88 million of those expenses through the TIF process.

“Notwithstanding the fact that ... the village’s own appointed trustee approved the expenses that CenterPoint did submit over a decade ago, the Village is now challenging the entire TIF process and trying to stop further CenterPoint development.”

A phone call to Elwood’s attorney, Jonah Orlofsky, was not immediately returned

Thursday, but Orlofsky responded in an emailed statement from Elwood’s spokesperson. “... The Village is committed to finding out exactly how CenterPoint spent every last local tax dollar and why it has failed to live up to its end of this agreement. Instead of a vibrant retail base, [good-paying] jobs and needed tax dollars that it promised, CenterPoint has given us a barrage of heavy truck traffic that puts residents in harm’s way, low-paying warehouse jobs that make it impossible for middle-class families to live on and a mere fraction of the revenue it touted would receive in return,” Orlofsky said in the emailed statement.

In a news release, Murphy said the new village administration has consistently gone out of its way to negatively portray CenterPoint, adding that the claims in “this frivolous lawsuit are without merit and a real waste of taxpayer dollars.”

Murphy said CenterPoint has benefited the village in a number of ways, including transforming land that was destined to otherwise become a landfill. Instead, the village is home to one of the largest intermodal business parks in the U.S., he said.

By BOB OKON bokon@shawmedia.com JOLIET – One lane on Houbolt Road has been closed for a water main construction project that started this week.

The lane closure Thursday on a section of Houbolt that runs past the Interstate 80 interchange led to traffic backups that slowed down motorists exiting the interstate.

Joliet Utilities Director James Eggen said the work is expected to be completed some time in the fall.

The city is adding a second main to improve water supply in the area, Eggen said. One

northbound lane has been closed because the main runs underneath Houbolt.

The water main will run from Olympic Boulevard on the north to Mound Road on the south.

Route 6 work

Meanwhile, work continues on another sewer project in the same area.

The city is replacing an old sewer force main along Route 6. The project runs from Terry Drive to McClintock Road, and then down McClintock to Patricia Lane.

The project includes the construction of a sewer pumping station.

THE HERALD-NEWS PLAINFIELD – Moody’s Investor Services on Wednesday upgraded the village of Plainfield’s general obligation bond rating from Aa2 to Aa1.

The rating is Moody’s second highest, and the change is expected to save the village money on $18.5 million in outstanding rated debt, according to a village news release.

Fortunately, lymphedema is one that can be successfully managed through physical therapy and lifelong maintenance that patients can perform themselves or with the aid of a caregiver.

According to Temi Asein, physical therapist and certified lymphedema therapist (CLT-LANA), from the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago at Silver Cross Hospital, in New Lenox, lymphedema is the swelling of a body part caused by over accumulation of lymph fluid when the lymph nodes no longer remove lymph from the body.

Lymphedema often occurs in breast cancer patients who had all or part of their breast removed and underarm lymph nodes removed. Lymphedema in the legs may occur after surgery for uterine cancer, prostate cancer, lymphoma, or melanoma. It may also occur with vulvar cancer or ovarian cancer.

“Once the lymph nodes are gone they never grow back so they can’t move fluid from that extremity like used to,” Asein said. However, she added, “You can bring it under control if you manage it properly. When my patients do, they see really good results.”

Treatment includes congestive therapy, manual lymphatic drainage and bandaging. Targeted massage moves lymphatic fluid to other parts of body where intact lymph nodes pump fluid back to the heart and reduce swelling. Treatment also consists of compression bandaging - layered stretch bandages help to keep lymphatic fluid from accumulating.

Asein usually sees each patient two or three times a week for four to six weeks during the intensive phase of lymphedema treatment. The second phase is the self management phase, performed by the patient at home. It includes 20 to 30 minutes or less of massage, followed by bandaging, which takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes.

“It can take even less if a family member helps,” Asein said.

JOLIET – More than 900 auto shop students get free tickets Saturday to Route 66 Raceway for an appreciation day designed to encourage careers in the automotive business.

Too many auto shop programs have disappeared in recent years, and this is one way to keep students on track for careers as technicians, said Steve Wolcott, president and chief executive of ProMedia Events.

“This is a way to say to these guys: Keep working hard, there’s a lot of opportunity, and we need you,” Wolcott said. “Coast to coast, we’re not turning out as many technicians as we used to when auto shop, wood shop and metal shop classes were more

prominent.”

Auto Shop Appreciation Day at the Nitto Tire NMRA/ NMCA Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing in Joliet is the first one being held at races sanctioned by ProMedia Events.

JOLIET – Details on the fundraiser to replace Festival of Trees are set to be shared Aug. 11 at the annual meeting for the Rialto Square Theatre Foundation.

Rialto General Manager Randy Green this week told the Will County Metropolitan Exposition and Auditorium Authority, the board that oversees the theater, that he will present details of the fundraiser at the meeting.

The authority also heard how the theater plans to commemorate the late Dorothy Mavrich, a Joliet resident often credited with saving the Rialto from demolition in the 1970s, and two of its board members who died last year.

Green still plans to make the first full public presentation of the new fundraiser after Labor Day as announced previously. But he said the foundation, the fundraising arm of the Rialto, should hear a presentation at its annual meeting.

“There are still some details we are trying to complete

by Aug. 11,” Green told the Rialto board.

The Festival of Trees, an event when people and organizations in the community create decorated Christmas trees for sale, has been the annual fundraiser for the Rialto.

Green has said the new fundraiser will be larger in scope and longer in duration but has not offered details.

Born on December 26, 1912 in Linton, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Michele and Marie (nee Vigna) Airola. She has resided in Joliet since 1926.

Dora was preceded in death by her first husband, Michael D. Berta in 1960; her second husband, C. Paul Geary in 2003; her brothers, James, Peter and John Airola; her sisters, Mary Bertino, Lena Airoldi and Eda Airoldi.

Loving mother of Dorine (Ray) Muenzing and Michael (Sharon) Berta; stepmother of Donna Geary; cherished grandmother of 15, great-grandmother of 33 and great-great grandmother of 4.

Dora resided at Our Lady of Angels for the past four years. She was an outstanding seamstress with a unique and amazing eye for style. She made beautiful dresses, formals and wedding gowns working at Alveda’s Dress Shop.

Dora and her second husband C. Paul Geary owned and operated the Sports Huddle in Lockport for

15 years. She was a member of the Church of St. Anthony for over 80 years.

The family would like to thank the staff of Our Lady of Angels/ St. Anthony Wing A2, for their loving and kind care shown to Dora during her four years residing there.

But Lynne Lichtenauer, a friend of Mavrich and a member of the Rialto foundation board, said Mavrich herself did not want a bust and thought it would exaggerate her role in saving the theater.

“She said she was instrumental in saving the Rialto, but there were so many people behind her that she

Schock, prosecutors find resolution on contempt accusations

SPRINGFIELD – Former U.S. Rep. Aaron Schock and his attorneys have reached a temporary resolution with federal prosecutors on civil contempt accusations he faced for failing to produce campaign and congressional records.

The Peoria Republican appeared Tuesday and Wednesday in federal court in Springfield on the contempt issue.

Schock’s attorney, George Terwillinger, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy Bass said both sides reached an agreement.

Sharon Paul, the spokeswoman for the Office of the U.S. Attorney for the Central District of Illinois, said attorneys for both sides would provide the court with details of the agreement as early as Thursday.

Schock, who resigned in March, is under federal investigation over his use of taxpayer and campaign money. A federal grand jury has been hearing testimony from former members of Schock’s staff. Last month, FBI agents removed boxes and other items from his central Illinois campaign office.

Federal prosecutors’ move to hold Schock in contempt on the issue of producing records wasn’t public record until Wednesday.

“I believe we have at least a temporary resolution that would cause us to request that we postpone this hearing and proceed no further,” Bass told U.S. District Court Judge Sue Myerscough, who had ordered Schock to produce the documents.

Terwillinger said Schock was looking to secure his “constitutional rights in connection with a grand jury investigation. We are very pleased that we reached an agreement with the government that protects Mr. Schock’s rights

Ex-U.S. Rep. Reynolds scrambles to meet bond conditions

CHICAGO – Former U.S. Rep. Mel Reynolds, facing federal tax charges, scrambled Thursday to find a place to stay to meet bond conditions after prosecutors told a judge that restrictions on sex offenders apply to the Chicago Democrat because of a decades-old statutory rape conviction.

The cash-strapped Harvard graduate, who is represented by a federal defender, has no home of his own; he found a place to spend the night after hours of searching.

The issue arose at a morning hearing in U.S. District Court in Chicago after Reynolds entered a not-guilty plea to failing to file income tax returns from 2009

to 2012 and as both sides raised the question of bond. Reynolds resigned from Congress after a 1995 conviction for having sex with an underage campaign worker.

He wasn’t required to register as a sex offender under laws at the time, said his court-appointed attorney, Richard Kling. But prosecutors said they would agree to Reynolds remaining free pending trial on an unsecured bond – which requires no money down – only if he lived under standard sex-registry restrictions.

A South Side Chicago residence where Reynolds lived recently was ruled out because it’s within 1,000 feet of a school. A suburban Bartlett house where Reynolds said he could stay with an acquaintance was excluded because it’s close to a children’s center. When Kling broached the idea of Reynolds staying in a northwest Indiana motel, not far from Chicago, U.S. Magistrate Judge Maria Valdez promptly responded, “Not appropriate.”

In the late afternoon, Kling said Reynolds finally found a place to stay overnight that court officials approved; he said the place is in Chicago, although he declined to provide details. Kling said he’s hopeful longer-term accommodations could be made. Another

hearing was set for Friday.

Illinois sets record for seat belt usage in front seat

SPRINGFIELD – Usage of seat belts by drivers and front-seat passengers in Illinois has reached an all-time high.

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced Thursday the rate is at 95.2 percent.

That’s an increase of 1.1 percent from last year’s previous high of 94.1 percent. The state has had a mandatory seat belt law since 1985.

The National Highway Safety Administration said earlier this year that Illinois ranked seventh nationally in safety belt usage for 2014. IDOT officials said they’re happy about the number but still want it to be higher.

IDOT undertook a survey of 155,175 front-seat occupants on roads across Illinois.

Data for back-seat passenger seat belt usage is due in October.

Illinois law has required backseat passengers to wear seat belts since 2012.

Kankakee County ‘rent-a-cell’ program saves jail $2.6M

KANKAKEE – A report said inmates from outside Kankakee

County are saving the jail $2.6 million this year.

A special finance committee formed to study the county’s rent-a-cell program found the sheriff’s department earns $80 a day for jailing prisoners for federal agencies and spends $48.70 to house them.

The committee worked out the figure with the sheriff’s office.

The Kankakee Daily Journal reported the review ends years of disagreement by officials over how to measure the program’s costs and benefits.

Committee co-chairman Andrew Wheeler said the panel believes the program is a boon to the county.

While it found $2.6 million in savings this year, it did not examine past years.

County inmates cost $102.76 a day to house – largely because of health care costs.

Illinois’ health law co-op among those struggling

CHICAGO – Illinois’ only nonprofit health insurance co-op has struggled with low enrollment and financial losses.

A government audit released Thursday shows that only one of the nation’s 23 co-ops made money last year.

The nonprofits were set up under the national health care overhaul as alternatives to mega-insurers.

In Illinois, Land of Lincoln Health had projected its net income to reach $28 million for 2014.

Instead, the audit found, it had a net loss of $17.7 million.

Claims expenses topped income from premiums by $7.8 million.

And Land of Lincoln’s 3,461 enrollees were less than 4 percent of the 94,249 it had expected to sign up.

Spokeswoman Janine Sheedy said the co-op has “adapted to the marketplace,” now enrolled more than 50,000 members and is “on the pathway to profitability by 2016.”

Texas Commission on Jail Standards Director Brandon Wood said Thursday a major challenge for jailers is dealing with inmates with a history of mental health issues who don’t appear to be in immediate crisis.

Wood testified to Texas lawmakers who are reviewing jail and police standards.

Bland was found dead in a Waller County Jail on July 13, three days after she was arrested during a traffic stop. Authorities said she hanged herself, a finding her family has questioned.

Bland indicated on a booking questionnaire that she previously attempted suicide.

Officials said Waller County jailers didn’t get additional mental health training they were supposed to receive.

Afghan Taliban confirm death of Mullah Omar

KABUL, Afghanistan – The Taliban confirmed the death of longtime leader Mullah Mohammad Omar and appointed his successor Thursday, as a new round of peace talks was indefinitely postponed amid concerns over how committed the new leadership is to ending the militant group’s 14-year insurgency.

Congress passes 3-month highway, transit aid patch

WASHINGTON – Congress sent President Barack Obama a threemonth bill to keep highway and transit money flowing to states on Thursday, one day before the deadline for a cutoff of funds.

Earlier in the day, the Senate passed a sweeping, long-term transportation bill, setting up discussions with the House this fall on what the future course of transportation policy should be and how to pay for programs.

The Senate approved the short-term bill by vote of 91 to 4.

The House passed the same bill a day earlier, and then left for its August recess.

Lawmakers said they hope the 3-month patch – the 34th shortterm transportation extension since 2009 – will be Congress’ last. It extends the government’s authority to process aid payments to states through Oct. 29.

By ANDREW MELDRUM and SYLVIE CORBET The Associated Press SAINT-ANDRE, Reunion – A barnacle-encrusted wing part that washed up on a remote Indian Ocean island could help solve one of aviation’s greatest mysteries, as investigators work to connect it to the Malaysia Airlines flight that vanished more than a year ago.

The surprise discovery of the debris on a rocky beach stirred hopes and emotion among families of the missing, after a year and a half of grieving and frustration at a lack of answers, despite a wide, deep and expensive multinational search effort in the southern Indian Ocean, the China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.

Even if it is confirmed to be a long-awaited first clue to the disappearance of Flight 370, there’s no guarantee investigators can still find the plane’s recorders or other remains.

French authorities moved the plane piece from the

beach to the local airport on Reunion, and will send it next to the city of Toulouse, where it may arrive Saturday morning, according to the Paris prosecutor’s office.

Toulouse is the hub of Europe’s aerospace industry, with the headquarters of Airbus and a network of hangars and plane facilities. The plane part will be analyzed in special defense facilities used for airplane testing and analysis, according to the Defense Ministry.

Air safety investigators, including one from Boeing, have identified the component found on the French island of Reunion as a “flaperon” from the trailing edge of a Boeing 777 wing, a U.S. official said. The official wasn’t authorized to be publicly named.

Flight 370, which disappeared March 8, 2014, with 239 people on board, is the only 777 known to be missing.

The unsuccessful search for the plane has raised concerns worldwide about whether airliners should be required to transmit their locations

continually via satellite, especially when flying long distances over the ocean.

Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott, whose country is leading the search for the plane in a remote patch of ocean far off Australia’s west coast, expressed hope Friday that the part would help solve the baffling mystery that has left the families of those on board in an agonizing limbo.

“Nothing has been confirmed, but obviously this is, by far, the most encouraging sign so far,” Abbott told Sydney radio station 2SM. “We have long thought it went down somewhere in the Indian Ocean and, at last, it seems that we may be on the verge of some confirmation.”

If it turns out to be part of the Malaysian plane, that could bolster the theory that the plane deviated from its path between Kuala Lumpur and Beijing and turned south into the Indian Ocean. And it would put to rest speculation that it could have traveled north or landed somewhere after being hijacked.

To the Editor: Make sure a college savings plan is on your back-to-school list.

For $25, anyone can open a college savings account. You do not need to be a parent. You do not even need to be related to the child.

For $25, you can set the expectation that college graduation is attainable. A child who knows they have a college savings account is seven times more likely to attend college.

An account can be opened at www.illinoistreasurer.gov. Click on College Savings and choose either Bright Start or Bright Directions. Both will launch the path to success.

You do not need to be an investment expert to open a college savings account.

Most people choose a fund based on the age of the child. However, if you enjoy picking

specific investments, you can do that, too.

Of course, it is best if you can add a little bit of money each month. But if you cannot, do not let that stop you from opening an account.

A college degree or technical school certificate puts a person in a position to succeed.

We know that educational attainment is the best predictor to employability. That is because employers associate a degree or certificate with a person who is dependable, responsible and trainable.

“An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest,” is a quote often attributed to Benjamin Franklin. As you prepare to send your loved one back to school, show them their college savings plan so they know they can be part of the American Dream.

Not just Madigan’s fault there isn’t a budget yet Last week, Gov. Bruce Rauner declared to reporters that if it wasn’t for House Speaker Michael Madigan, the budget impasse would’ve been resolved.

And perhaps if the sky was green, then grass might be blue.

For starters, what the governor said was highly doubtful. It’s not as if the absence of Madigan would free Senate President John Cullerton and his liberal Democratic caucus from eagerly going along with the harshly anti-union aspects of Rauner’s “Turnaround Agenda” in exchange for a budget deal and tax hike, as the governor is demanding.

Cullerton confirmed that just a day after Rauner had made his remarks.

“This is a supermajority of Democrats and a bunch of pro-union Republicans in this state,” Cullerton told reporters. “This isn’t, you know, Oklahoma or Kansas. And so he’s got to understand, he ran for governor of Illinois.”

things Democrats just won’t ever go along with, such as all but eliminating collective bargaining rights for unions at the local government level, killing off the prevailing wage for construction workers and doing away with the mostly “no fault” aspect of the workers’ compensation system.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is more conservative than Cullerton, and he’d like to see some changes to the workers’ comp system, but he also has taken the side of unions in this ideological war, as well.

Plus, let’s get real here.

There is no “absence” of Mike Madigan. He is, love him or hate him (and, if the polls are right, most people hate him), a fact of Statehouse life.

It’s true Madigan hasn’t been cooperative during the long overtime legislative session. He even intervened in the Senate this month to prevent Cullerton from passing a compromise bill on property taxes.

Cullerton’s proposal

VIEWS Rich Miller attempted to address one of Rauner’s “Turnaround Agenda” demands of a twoyear property tax freeze while making sure Chicago schools and other struggling school districts around the state weren’t harmed.

The bill was opposed by the Chicago Teachers Union, which nonetheless called it “well intentioned.” The Chicago Teachers Pension Fund also opposed the bill because it changed the pension payment “ramp” schedule for the city’s school system. The Republicans, of course, also were opposed, because the governor wants to get rid of most collective bargaining rights for teachers unions as part of his proposal.

For all those reasons, plus one, Cullerton’s measure received 32 “Yes” votes – four short of the three-fifths major-

ity needed during an overtime session.

The “plus one” angle is that Madigan also was opposed. If you check the roll call, Sen. Martin Sandoval, who is Madigan’s senator, didn’t vote even though he was in the chamber during the roll call. Sen. Steve Landek, whom Madigan had appointed to the Senate four years ago, voted “Present.”

The Senate Democrats were aware Madigan was working against the bill, but Cullerton went ahead with the roll call anyway. Cullerton believes he has the votes to pass the legislation when his chamber returns to town in August.

Look, I won’t excuse any of his actions, but others have found a way to make a deal with Madigan. Heck, even former governor Rod Blagojevich did, and he even did so after he accused the chairman of the Democratic Party of being a “Republican.”

So, enough with the excuses and the eliminationist fantasies. If the governor wants an agreement, then he has to step

away from his far-right economic agenda and find some practical solutions to this mess, or we will never even get to talking about a budget.

Democrats – and a whole lot of Republicans – are simply not going to vote to eviscerate labor unions. Period. This isn’t so much a personality clash with one stubborn House speaker as it is an ideological war with more than half the state.

Successful governors always have found a way to bridge the oftentimes yawning gaps between the various interests and power centers.

I don’t disagree at all with the governor that we need some economic reforms to spur some much-needed growth. But if this governor was serious about breaking the logjam, he’d find a way to do that in concert with a Democratic supermajority.

Kristen Gillespie named coach at Lewis

Coaching basketball is one for Kristen Gillespie.

Gillespie was named Thursday afternoon as Lewis University’s 12th women’s basketball coach in school history.

Gillespie is the granddaughter of coaching legend and former Lewis athletics director Gordie Gillespie and the daughter of longtime coach Mike Gillespie.

Now it’s time for her to follow in her grandfather’s footsteps at Lewis.

“I said a couple of times in the interview process that this is my dream job,” Gillespie said. “I grew up hearing stories from my grandfather, from his former players, at dinners and at barbecues of just how special not only Lewis athletics is, but the people.

That is so evident when you go around campus because people are so friendly, so welcoming, a smile on their faces. I know I’m where I belong, and I hope that I can be here for a really long time.”

Because it was her dream job, she was ready the second it opened.

When Lisa Carlsen announced she would be leaving Lewis to accept the head women’s basketball position at Northern Illinois University, Gillespie wasn’t the only person ready. She had a few important people in her corner.

“Coach Carlsen’s [news] conference was at 11, and at 11 o’clock Dr. (John) Planek had my résumé, my cover letter and an email waiting for him,” Gillespie said. “I’m very lucky because a lot of my grandfather’s former players are still close family friends, so Tom Kennedy placed a call for me, as did John Ostrowski, who was the baseball coach at Benedictine, and Pat Sullivan.

I was pretty lucky. I had some heavy hitters helping me out.

It was on the dot. As soon as it went live, the email was sent.”

Even though the Flyers graduated much talent, they won’t have a “rebuilding year” in Gillespie’s first season as head coach. All-Americans Jamie Johnson and Mariyah Brawner-Henley are two seniors who are hungry for a national championship and will lead this upcoming year’s talented team.

John Planek Lewis University athletics director Gillespie has a long résumé of coaching experience that makes Lewis believe she can.

She led Benedictine University to a 18-10 record in 2015. In four seasons, she recorded a 54-53 (.505) record and guided the Eagles to four straight Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament appearances in D III. After playing basketball at

North Carolina State under Kay Yow, Gillespie started her college coaching career at Central Florida as an assistant in the 1999-2000 season before becoming an assistant at UC Santa Barbara.

Gillespie became a graduate assistant at North Carolina State, then coached high school at Maclay School (Florida). She returned to N.C.

State as an assistant coach and co-recruiting coordinator, then became an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the University of Illinois at Chicago.

All of the coaching experience has led her to the opportunity to coach at Lewis, where she doesn’t have to rebuild. She just has to go for the big prize.

“Coach Carlsen did an amazing job building this program into a national powerhouse – and you’re right, I have huge, huge shoes to fill,” Gillespie said. “I will not shy away from this opportunity. I am very excited about trying to continue this tradition, but to take it even another step forward.

“This is my promise to these young women and to the Lewis community: that every single day, we will work towards that goal of winning our first national championship.”

Kristen Gillespie Lewis women’s basketball coach After playing basketball for Ray Meyer at DePaul University, he served as Lewis’ athletics director from 1951 to 1976, was the school’s basketball coach from 1951 to 1965, and led the baseball program from 1953 to 1976, with the highlight being three straight NAIA titles.

“My family moved away when I was at a younger age, so my time spent with my grandfather was when I was really young and then summer visits, but it was always the same,” Kristen Gillespie said. “You’d sit in the room and be the most important person. You were his world and were the greatest coach known to man, or the greatest player or the greatest granddaughter.

“I am so thankful that God put me back in the Midwest six years ago after coach Yow passed away from breast cancer and they got rid of our staff. I thought that was a really tough pill to swallow. But that gave me six years to spend with my grandfather, and that’s time that I will always be thankful for because I got so close with my grandfather. He always told me that the wins will take care of itself. If you do it the right way and if you love your kids and are there

for them, everything will fall into place.

“It’s extremely humbling. I walked into the athletic complex today, and when you walk in the door that leads to my office, it lists all of his accolades and a little memorial piece on him. I feel like I’m the luckiest person alive because that’s my route to my office every day. Not that I need a reminder of how special my grandfather was or the type of role model that I want to become because of what he taught me. I still can’t believe that I’m part of the Lewis family. It truly is a dream come true, and I’m ecstatic that I get to share it with my family.”

Her father also played basketball for Meyer at DePaul before beginning an eightyear run as basketball coach at Catholic High, where he won 139 games, four regionals and one sectional.

After moving to Florida, he coached for 20 years, which included 11 years at Tallahassee Community College, where he won 258 games.

“My dad watches every game, and you can count on a phone call like 10 minutes after the game with the good, the bad and the ugly,” Kristen Gillespie said. “Him and my brother are just die-hard fans of me, and whatever team that I coach, they live, breathe and sleep it.

“I was so lucky and blessed because I thought that was normal growing up with coaches surrounding you. I feel really bad for my mother because she had no choice – she was stuck with all of us. I didn’t realize how lucky I was, but it completely shaped the person that I am today. My dad has a brilliant basketball mind, but I learned so much from him off the court, like from my grandfather, of just how to treat people. I saw what he was able to do with some of the young men that he coached, and that’s why I love what I do.”

Johnson excited about the Flyers’ new coach

By CURT HERRON cherron@shawmedia.com ROMEOVILLE – In her first meeting with new Lewis University women’s basketball coach Kristen Gillespie, Jamie Johnson admits she and Mariyah Brawner-Henley were well-prepared with some tough questions.

After all, not just anybody was going to be able to replace their previous coach, Lisa Carlsen, the program’s all-time wins leader who led the Flyers to a 31-3 season and a trip to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight during a season in which they won 23 straight games to open the year and spent five weeks ranked as the nation’s top team.

But it quickly became apparent to the Flyers’ senior All-Americans that Gillespie was the ideal candidate to succeed Carlsen, who announced June 30 that she had accepted the women’s basketball coaching position at Northern Illinois University.

“We were ready, and I had questions written down,” Johnson said. “We wanted the best possible coach to lead us next year, not only for this year’s seniors but also a coach who’s going to be here for years to come for the incoming freshmen so that we can build a dynasty here at Lewis. We want to be able to come here as alumni and see teams

be even more successful than we were. I feel that she’s the kind of coach who can get that done.”

The pair quickly were won over by Gillespie’s personality, and it also didn’t hurt she had an impressive résumé which featured working for several quality coaches.

“When we first met her, we saw that she definitely has an exciting personality, and she’s very vibrant, so you just want to be around her and get to know her and take all of her knowledge in because she has a lot to offer,” Johnson said. “She’s coached at a lot of different places, so she’s pulled a lot of different styles of play and perspectives from the people that she’s coached under.”

Although the Flyers will have a different look in 2015-16, Johnson expects the program once again will be among the top teams in the nation.

“There’s no reason why our goals should change at all from what they were before,” Johnson said. “When coach first came in to speak to Mariyah and me, one of the first things that she said was that she wants to win a national championship this coming year, and that really stood out that it was her goal without us even talking to her. I think it will be fun to play for her and we’ll be a fun team to watch. It should be a great year.”

ROMEOVILLE – With the basketball pedigree Kristen Gillespie has, it’s hard to imagine how Lewis University’s new women’s basketball coach won’t be a big success.

Grandfather Gordie Gillespie is one of the winningest coaches in American sport; her father, Mike, is one of the brightest basketball minds to come from this area; and her college coach, North Carolina State’s Kay Yow, is a Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer.

Not surprisingly, the new Flyers coach talked about all of these individuals’ influences in helping to shape her coaching philosophy as she prepares to begin her “dream job.”

“I would like to thank the three coaches who greatly impacted my life and two are no longer here with us,” Kristen Gillespie said.

“The first is my grandfather, Gordie Gillespie, who we lost a couple of months ago, but I know that he’s looking down with a big smile on his face. Second is my former coach at N.C. State, Kay Yow. And last is my father, Mike Gillespie.

“While all three had very different coaching styles, they all had one thing in common. And that was players are always the most important people in your program. I learned from a young age that it’s my job as a coach to serve my players and to empower them to reach their potential. That’s something that I look forward to doing with these young women.”

Gordie Gillespie enjoyed an amazing coaching career, which saw him have success in baseball, football and basketball. He established an illustrious legacy at the three local schools where he coached – Lewis, Joliet Catholic and the University of St. Francis.

“My dad has a brilliant basketball mind, but I learned so much from him off the court, like from my grandfather, of just how to treat people. I saw what he was able to do with some of the young men that he coached, and that’s why I love what I do.”

Prosek seeks to continue Minooka success

By KAITLYN JASNICA kjasnica@shawmedia.com MINOOKA – Sometimes, opportunity presents itself at perfect moments.

When Carrie Prosek left the Minooka boys program for maternity leave, her whole family knew she would make her way back to coaching high school eventually.

Almost every year, at least one head coaching position in the Joliet area has been open.

Coaching at the club level didn’t feel the same, so Prosek was ready to jump back in.

There was one requirement, however.

“I would never leave Minooka. I love teaching at Minooka,” Prosek said. “I love working at Minooka. I love the sports, the program, the community involvement. I would never leave.

“My family is very big into volleyball. My husband was always ready for this opportunity as well for me to get back into high school. Honestly, I like coaching club, but I love coaching high school.

Minooka High School, the community is an amazing sports community.”

Waiting for the right position has paid finally off.

Prosek was named Minooka’s new girls varsity volleyball coach.

Unlike many coaches who start working with a new team, Prosek won’t really need time to adjust to new surroundings. She is a physical education teacher and an athletic conditioning coach, so she has interacted with many Minooka athletes.

On top of that, Prosek has watched the Minooka teams and knows how Chris Hoelscher ran the program. “[Hoelscher] ran a very good program,” Prosek said.

“She was a very good coach, and we’re similar, kind of. I watched her coach through the years, and I’ve had several good conversations with her. I highly respect how she ran the program. I’m walking in where it’s already developed. I don’t have to restart the program because she did a good job.”

Before her new position at Minooka, Prosek coached UNO Volleyball Club’s 14 Elite girls team and 17 Elite boys team, was the graduate assistant at Missouri-Kansas City, and was the club director for Adrenaline Volleyball Club.

Before the Joliet Central grad began coaching, she played at Charleston Southern University as an outside hitter and a middle blocker.

Most hitting positions aren’t known for their defense, but Prosek holds the school record for digs.

Because defense played such a big part of her game in college, it makes sense she emphasizes that part now.

“A lot of people focus on hitters,” Prosek said. “But I’m huge on you can’t have an offense if you don’t have a defense. I’ll focus big on that.”

Defense and serve receive are Prosek’s main focus right now, and it’s a spot she has to fill. One of the four starters last year who graduated was the libero. She also needs to fill a setter, right side and

Camp just has started, so players are fighting to fill those spots. Minooka’s freshman and sophomore teams both were successful, and the freshman team went undefeated. Each spot is up for grabs.

One thing Prosek doesn’t need to worry about right now is someone reliable to

put the ball away.

Minooka already has firepower because it is returning Ginger Perinar and Emily Hise. Perinar, a 6-foot1 outside hitter, totaled 348 kills and was a Herald-News All-Area first team player, and Hise is a well-rounded middle who can hit and block.

After losing in a close match to Normal Community in a sectional semifinal, the two returning starters are ready to lead the team far with the other seniors.

Even though Prosek is focused on picking the remaining positions and making sure the team bonds, winning has to be on the back of her mind because it’s in her family.

Her husband, Mike, played at Lewis and made it to the final four. Her father, Mike O’Connell, was the head basketball coach at several Joliet Township programs for 25 years. And her nephew, Kyler van Rossum-O’Connell – a Herald-News first team player – was a part of the Joliet West squad that stunned many teams in the area and made it to supersectionals.

The list goes on, with brothers Rory and Coley, cousins, uncles and her grandfather being among the other family members who have enjoyed success both as coaches and athletes.

The whole family has excelled in the area, and Prosek did well as the Minooka boys coach years ago and with the UNO 17 Elite team this year as they took 11th in open at Nationals.

Now it’s her time to shine as Minooka’s girls head coach. She’s taking it one moment at a time, however.

“I’m very excited,” Prosek said. “It was perfect timing. I wasn’t looking for the job to open. I applied when it did.

[Hoelscher] left me with a nice program, a very young program, but they had a phenomenal freshman team last year and, obviously, a phenomenal varsity team.”

“Our goal for every Minooka volleyball teams is to win conference. We have a tough conference, but we’re always up there. I want to take it one step at a time because we have only a few returning starters.”

Greenup eyes fourth victory in five races SUBMITTED REPORT MORRIS – As July comes to a close, D’Arcy GMC STARS National Midget points leader Brad Greenup hopes to continue the hot streak he has had through the first four races.

Greenup looks to become the fourth driver in STARS history to win four or more races in one season. The record is held by defending champion Austin Prock, three-time champion Jim Anderson and the all-time wins leader, Kyle Hamilton.

“I have always looked up to Jimmy since I first got in the seat of a national midget,” Greenup said. “I tried to model myself after him on and off the track. I feel he is one of the best drivers I have raced against, and to have my name on any list next to him would be an honor. Jimmy, Kyle, and Austin, you knew would be the ones you would have to hold off or pass to get a win, so to accomplish something only those three have done would be a great achievement for me.”

Greenup holds a 28-point lead over Tyler Baran heading into Saturday’s halfway point.

“I’m lucky to be only 28 points behind,” Baran said.

“I feel like we are close and have the speed to win any night – just need lady luck to come to our side.

“The tough part about this season is that, each night, there are contenders up and down the pits that can win on any given night.

To win the championship will be a survival of the fittest, and consistency will be more important than ever.

We can’t afford a bad night.”

The second half of the STARS season kicks off Saturday at Grundy County Speedway, with the gates opening at 4:30 p.m. First race will take place at 6 p.m.

STAFF REPORTS SCHAUMBURG – The Joliet Slammers had had Schaumburg’s number, especially on the road, where they had picked up five of their eight wins in visiting ballparks.

The Slammers were hoping to capture a rare road sweep Thursday, but the Boomers had other ideas as they captured a 7-0 Frontier League victory.

Schaumburg took control by scoring three runs in the third inning when Craig Massey (2 for 4) doubled in two

runs, and Willi Martin singled in another against Slammers starter Michael Carden, who allowed nine hits and struck out three in 62⁄3 innings.

Meanwhile, Joliet (25-37) struggled to get anything going against Boomers starter Taylor Thurber, who allowed four hits and struck out four in nine innings.

Hunter Ridge had two hits, while Mike Garza and Max Casper also collected hits. It marked the 23rd straight road game in which Garza got a hit. Jordan Dean went 3 for 5 with three RBIs for Schaumburg.

Kyle Long enjoying a breath of fresh air It’s hard to believe that 27 months ago, Kyle Long was a controversial first-round draft choice with just four starts in Division I football at Oregon.

This reporter somewhat famously called this selection a blown draft choice on 670 The Score immediately after the pick.

It was a nice night for Long, but clearly not my finest moment.

Today, he is surely the best player on the Bears, unless you want to make an argument for Matt Forte.

Fortunately, we’ve formed a solid working relationship, and when I asked him what his memories were of growing up the son of an NFL star, he shared this story.

“It’s funny because growing up in that house, I tried my best to run away from that. I really have no recollection of my dad playing from when I was younger.

“My earliest football memories are being in the studio with my dad, and getting to go to on location sites, my first real memory was at the Payton center with my dad, he was delivering a truck for his Ford Built Tough, Tough Guys Award and I think ... who was the defensive tackle that would have won that ... Keith Traylor is exactly who it was, he got a free truck that day, and I remember being in the Payton Center.

“In retrospect, when I practice in there every day, it’s amazing to be a part of something like this, and you’ve got to really grasp the moment when you have it ’cause your window for football is this big.”

One of the most impressive things about Long is he is so well spoken and honest without calling anyone out.

Jeff Dickerson of ESPN shared the interview with us and asked Long

BEARS INSIDER Hub Arkush about the differences from this year to last and he replied, “Just the guys we have here, we have the right guys on the bus and the wrong guys off the bus and we’re fired up about it, we really like what we’ve got going on here.”

Pressed to elaborate whether morale was really that much better, Long said, “Oh it’s unbelievable, it’s such a loose environment you know. Obviously, we have a strict plan and mission we want to stick to but we have a very, very relaxed environment and casual in terms of social interactions and relationships, everyone’s really cool with one another ... .”

Clearly the biggest question facing Long personally is what position he wants to play?

“I’m going to have a Marty (Bennett) comment here and say you know curiosity is good but also killed the cat.

“We have a left tackle, we have a right tackle at this point and you know those guys have been doing it for a while and they’ve been doing a pretty [darn] good job at it. I’m going to be ready to do whatever. I’ll be ready to do whatever they ask me to do. This is a team game, it’s not an I game so I’m just trying to help.”

I’m thinking now that “blown draft choice” might prove to be one of the best picks the Bears have ever made.

Boston rocks Sale, snaps Sox streak BOSTON – Xander Bogaerts and David Ortiz each had three hits, and the Boston Red Sox beat Chris Sale and the White Sox, 8-2, on Thursday night, snapping the White Sox’s seven-game winning streak.

Knuckleballer Steven Wright (4-4) pitched seven effective innings in Boston’s third win in 15 games. Brock Holt had a two-run single, and Rusney Castillo homered.

Jose Abreu hit a two-run homer in the first for the Sox, who head home for a weekend series against the Yankees after a 7-1 road trip moved them into contention for an AL wild card.

The first five batters reached in Boston’s four-run sixth before Sale (9-6) was lifted.

He allowed seven runs and 12 hits in his worst start since April.

Sale struggled with his location, while Wright struck out a career-high eight after a suspect start.

Rizzo helps Cubs beat Brewers

MILWAUKEE – Anthony Rizzo hit a three-run homer with two out in the eighth inning, and the Cubs beat the Milwaukee Brewers, 5-2, Thursday night.

The Cubs won for the third time in four games since they were swept in a weekend series against lowly Philadelphia. Rizzo finished with three hits, and Dexter Fowler went 2 for 4.

Jimmy Nelson pitched seven innings of two-hit ball for Milwaukee, but the Cubs rallied in the eighth. Addison Russell and Fowler singled against Jeremy Jeffress before Will Smith (4-2) came in.

Smith retired his first two batters, but Rizzo connected for his 18th homer to give the Cubs a 3-2 lead.

Low-key, fun for the entire family C.W. Avery Family YMCA to host Mini and Kids Triathlon on Aug. 15

His mother, Katie Clark, said Andrew finally was old enough for the Mini and Kids Triathlon, at the C.W. Avery Family YMCA in Plainfield.

Clark and Andrew’s twin siblings, Emily and Ethan, 9, had participated in past years.

But last year, a family commitment conflicted with that date. However, the schedule is clear this year, and on Aug. 15, Andrew, 7, finally will join his family at the mini triathlon.

“He is very excited,” Clark said.

The Mini and Kids Triathlon attracts between 90 and 150 people, and takes 60 to 90 minutes to complete, said Susan Krause, health and wellness director at the C.W. Avery Family YMCA. It’s open to YMCA members and area residents ages 6 and older. The adult race – ages 12 and older – consists of a 200-yard swim, a 10-mile bike ride and a two-mile run, Krause said.

The children’s portion of the mini triathlon has two divisions.

Six- and 7-year-olds will complete a 25-yard swim, onemile bike ride and half-mile run, Krause said. Kids ages 8 to 11 will complete a 75-yard swim, a two-mile bike ride and a one-mile run, Krause added.

Swimming will take place inside the YMCA’s lap pool.

Running will be outside at two locations – on the YMCA grounds and around Ira Jones Middle School, which is near the YMCA, Krause said.

Kids will ride their own bicycles on YMCA grounds.

Adults will use stationary bikes, but those will be moved outside for the mini triathlon,

Krause said.

The best part about this triathlon is any of these activities can be modified to fit the participant.

“If you’re slower than everyone else or if you’d rather run than walk, that’s fine,” Krause said.

While Krause doesn’t recommend the Mini and Kids Triathlon for people who never exercise, the event shouldn’t daunt the average person. If someone really is struggling, Krause said, people will be available to help.

“I would encourage everyone to come,” Krause said.

“It’s not incredibly difficult, and you can work at your own speed and level, so anyone can complete it.”

Emphasis on fun, not competition With an indoor track, inclement weather is not a problem, and the event will take place rain or shine. People can register in advance or at the door, although Krause cannot guarantee how long commemorative T-shirts will be available. If participants want T-shirts, they should not wait to register.

Unlike any YMCA events – which are offered only to members – the mini triathlon is open to the community, Krause said. The goal is to encourage fitness for all ages, add spice to existing workouts

“When you see the kids getting their medals, their faces are all bright and happy,” Krause said. “It [the mini triathlon] is exciting without being incredibly intense.”

This low-key approach is the reason Clark initially signed up for the Mini and Kids Triathlon several years ago. Although fitness is important to Clark – she and her family are active YMCA members – Clark said triathlons intimidate her.

The mini triathlon seemed different, so Clark gave it a try. And she is glad she did.

“The kids watched me do it,” Clark said. “They thought it was exciting and decided to join me the year after. It was fun to do with the kids.”

Or you may feel like you have food sticking in your chest after you swallow. Esophagitis also can cause bleeding; if you sometimes vomit, you may see blood in your vomit. The bleeding in your esophagus may travel downward and make the color of your stool very dark (black).

To treat esophagitis caused by acid reflux, you have to treat the acid reflux. Start with lifestyle changes: • Lose weight if necessary. Being overweight causes more acid reflux.

• Eat small meals throughout the day rather than three large meals.

Large meals generate more acid – and more acid reflux.

• Don’t lie down right after eating, since your stomach makes more acid during meals.

• Cut out cigarettes and alcohol, both of which stimulate acid production.

• Identify and avoid foods that cause symptoms. Common culprits include caffeine, chocolate, peppermint and high-fat foods.

Your doctor likely will prescribe acid-blocking medication as well. Examples include H2-blockers and proton-pump inhibitors.

If reflux and esophagitis continue, your doctor may recommend surgery to tighten the esophageal sphincter.

Your symptoms should begin to improve within days of starting the right treatment, but it can take weeks for symptoms to go away completely. In the meantime, your doctor can prescribe pain relievers.

esophagitis. Could this have been caused by my acid reflux? What can I do about it?

Dear Reader: Yes, it could, and there are treatments. First, some explanation. The esophagus is the muscular tube that carries food from the mouth, through the chest and into the stomach.

Normally you don’t feel the presence of the esophagus, except when you are swallowing.

Sometimes the lining of your esophagus becomes inflamed. That’s called esophagitis. By far the most common cause of esophagitis is acid reflux, or gastroesophageal reflux disease.

A muscular ring (the esophageal sphincter) sits at the bottom of the esophagus, where it meets the stomach. Normally, the sphincter opens when you swallow, allowing food into your stomach. The rest of the time, it squeezes tight to prevent food and stomach acid from backing up into the esophagus.

In most people with GERD, however, the esophageal sphincter does not seal tightly. As a result, acid and digestive enzymes from the stomach flow backward into the esophagus. These caustic stomach juices irritate and inflame the lining of the esophagus. (I’ve put an illustration of this on my website, askdoctork.com.)

Esophagitis causes several bothersome symptoms. Pain – in the throat or behind the breastbone – is a common symptom.

The pain can be burning, heavy or sharp, and it may be worse after meals or when you lie down. (That’s because stomach acid travels more easily backward, up into the esophagus, when you lie flat.)

Swallowing problems are also common. For example, if esophagitis is causing a persistent pain in your mid-chest, it may get worse when you swallow.

Dear Abby: I have been close to my best friend for three years. A year ago we decided to date. We have a wonderful relationship on almost every level. The only issue I have is he’s reluctant to open up about his past.

He is a very private person, and I know it’s because of his upbringing. This has sparked many debates between us that have ended less than pleasantly.

Recently, he did open up, and when he did, he dropped a bomb. He asked me if I believed in soul mates, and I said yes. Then he told me about how in his past there was a girl he loved very much. Sadly, she died. He said he sees this girl as his soul mate, but he doesn’t think it lessens any of his love for me.

This was the first time he opened up to me. Now that it has sunk in, I’m hurt. I already have self-confidence issues, and I worry that since I am not her, I’m not enough. I can’t live up to a dead woman.

I always thought I could change his closed ways, but now, knowing the cause, I fear there is nothing I can do to help him. Maybe he’s just too messed up for me. I don’t know what to do. Can someone have two soul mates? –

Time and Place of Opening Bids. Sealed proposals for the construction of the Water Supply Well No. 1 Pumping Equipment Replacement for the City of Crest Hill, Will County, Illinois, will be received at the City Hall at 1610 N. Plainfield Road, Crest Hill, Illinois 60403 until 10:00 A M., August 19, 2015, and at that time will be publicly opened and lump sum bid read aloud.

Description of Work. The proposed construction consists of removal of the existing pumping equipment from the well; providing and installing 500 gpm submersible pumping equipment; disinfection, testing and other miscellaneous items of work .

3. Information for Bidders. All pertinent documents may be examined at the City Hall at 161O N. Plainfield Road or at the office of Baxter & Woodman, Inc., 8678 Ridgefield Road, Crystal Lake, Illinois 60012 .
