Lantz faces Despite hiccups, Blackhawks rally hits all the right notes more charges 2015 STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS

Prosecutors say 2 fetuses found after she retired
CHICAGO – When issue after issue popped up in the 24 hours leading up to the Blackhawks’ latest Stanley Cup parade and rally, it was hard to blame fans for being pessimistic about the celebration’s chances of living up to the past two. First, a rainy week rendered the 2013 rally site, Grant Park’s Hutchinson Field, unusable and forced the party into Soldier Field. Free tickets for the event, available online Wednesday, were snatched up within minutes, and many popped up on the secondary market with triple-digit price tags, further upsetting fans. Conceding there was no way to make an anticipated crowd of 2 million happy with a 61,500-seat venue, city officials expanded the parade route and added screens outside Soldier Field, all the while

WOODSTOCK – A McHenry County grand jury Thursday indicted embattled former coroner Marlene Lantz on allegations that she failed to bury an additional fetus. Prosecutors said two fetuses were found in the morgue after Lantz left office. These were in ad dition to the body of “Baby Doe” found in the coroner’s office in January, and the basis for fel- Marlene Lantz ony charges against her. Lantz, 68, of McHenry was indicted earlier this year on charges of official misconduct and forgery, alleging she failed to properly dispose of or bury “Baby Doe,” a fetus discovered at a Crystal Lake restaurant in 1992. She has pleaded not guilty. The latest bill of indictment, returned Thursday, mirrors the first, and charges Lantz with two more counts of official misconduct for failing to bury or dispose of “Baby Angel Harris,” a 22-week-old male. A third fetus also was found, prosecutors said, but was only 9 weeks old and not old enough to sustain a charge under state law. Assistant State’s Attorney Michael Combs, lead prosecutor on the case, also filed a motion Thursday to introduce the discovered 9-week-old fetus as evidence showing Lantz “has a modus operandi for collecting and storing dead fetuses in the cooler,” he said in the court document. He further adds “the improper retention of Baby [Doe] and Baby Harris was not just a mistake.” The motion indicates the 9-week-old was in the custody of Crystal Lake Police in 2003 as part of a criminal investigation into a sexual assault. According to Combs, prosecutors in 2007 ordered Lantz to dispose of that fetus, and she didn’t. Lantz is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday for
