WOODSTOCK – McHenry County court documents reveal new details in the first-degree murder case of a Huntley man accused in the beating death of his wife. In an unsealed search warrant, police said 64-year-old Edward E. Hartgraves sought medical help for his wife, Carol, seven hours after a fight with her turned violent. Edward Hartgraves called 911 at 5:24 p.m. March 20 to report that 63-year- Edward E. old Carol Hartgraves Hartgraves needed medical attention. According to court documents, Edward had a 0.314 blood-alcohol level and told a 911 dispatcher that he pushed his wife. When asked why, he said “out of anger,” according to the affidavit. When police arrived, Carol Hartgraves was conscious but disoriented and bleeding from the chin. She was taken to the hospital and interviewed by detectives. There she told police the argument began at 10 a.m. that morning. She also said Edward Hartgraves had been abusing her for the last 35 years of their marriage, but she had only recently began calling the police to report the violence. “Carol stated she is afraid of

Officers confirmed the robbery after responding to a call that came in at 11:36 a.m. for an incident at 1712 N. Richmond Road, according to a police news release.
