BOND REDUCTION DENIED IN SEX CASE WOODSTOCK – A Wonder Lake man accused of having sex with a teenager has the name of the girl tattooed on his body, prosecutors said. Michael E. Allen, 33, was charged with three counts each of criminal sexual assault and abuse. The more serious charge carries a sentencing range of four to 15 years in prison. Allen and the 15-year-old alleged victim had sexual relations on three occasions when the girl came home early from school, Assistant State’s Attorney David Metnick said. In asking that his bond be reduced to $40,000, Allen’s attorney, Assistant Public Defender Kim Messer, argued Allen maintains steady employment and no longer lives with the girl. McHenry County Judge Gordon Graham rejected the request. Allen has been held in McHenry County Jail on $100,000 bond since his Dec. 3 arrest. His next court date is Dec. 30.

Modest growth for D-300 Study: Student increase won’t cause immediate boundary changes By STEPHEN Di BENEDETTO sdibenedetto@shawmedia.com ALGONQUIN – Student growth at the state’s sixth-largest school district will increase by roughly 600 students during the next 10 years, a modest trend that won’t force District 300 officials to immediately redraw attendance boundaries. Chuck Bumbales, assistant

superintendent of operations, detailed the enrollment forecast to District Board members Monday in a much-anticipated demographic study. In the 251-page report, the Carpentersville-based district’s enrollment is projected to grow by 577 students in the next 10 years, totaling 21,247 students by 2023. From 2019 to 2023, the district is projected to grow by a mere 80

students mainly because of slow housing growth from the economic recession, Bumbales said. “It doesn’t appear that there is anything we have to do for the ’14-’15 school year that involves a major attendance boundary change,” Bumbales said. “We then will take a look at how we are programming at the buildings.” The demographic study is

meant to help administrators determine how to use future classroom space and lower class sizes based on a teacher contract that caused a one-day labor strike nearly a year ago. The modest projections would stave off attendance boundary changes in the near future, Bumbales said. The district would

WOODSTOCK – The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office will not reopen the investigation into an embattled Woodstock police sergeant, as public outrage over an inappropriate text message sent to a young girl extends beyond McHenry County. Criticism over the handling of the investigation into a text message Charles

“Chip” Amati sent to his former girlfriend’s 12-yearold daughter was propelled by international hacker group Anonymous. In the message, Amati asked the girl to send “sexy pictures.” On Friday, the group asked its more than 1 million Twitter followers to demand that Amati be fired or charged.

Amati received a 30-day unpaid suspension from the department after the Illinois State Police investigation also revealed he misused the LEADS system by running a background check on the girl’s mother, whom he had been dating. The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office declined to pursue charges against Amati, saying that the evidence didn’t support a criminal activity, Assistant State’s Attorney Michael Combs said. The Ringwood Village Board voted unanimously in favor of hiring a contractor to demolish the apartment building at 5204 Barnard Mill Road if the owner, Debbie Foster of Crystal Lake, doesn’t meet the March deadline to have the building demolished.
