College’s search for president down to 5

Each candidate to appear at MCC forums soon By ALLISON GOODRICH agoodrich@shawmedia CRYSTAL LAKE – There are two women and three men currently in the running to lead McHenry County College as the next president. Having started over the summer, the search for a new MCC president has been narrowed to five people, all external candidates, Board of Trustees Chairman Mike Smith said. The remaining five candidates were chosen from a pool of eight after each was interviewed face-to-face Nov. 14 and 15. They ultimately will be presented to the board, as well as to the broader community, Smith said. “They will meet with the broader constituencies outside of the college, faculty, adjunct faculty,” he said. “Basically it’s going to be an open forum, an invitation for anybody in the community to listen to them [and] ask them questions.” Different constituencies, such as the board, along with some of the college’s top donors, each have time with the candidates to learn more about them.

HOLIDAY HILLS – The Village Board is discussing including a memorial to McHenry County Sheriff’s Deputy Dwight Maness as part of a plan for a revamped park at Tower Drive and Hickory Road. Holiday Hills Police Chief Tony Colatorti and village Trustee Lou French said they came up with the idea after Maness died in September, less than a year after he was shot and wounded while responding to a domestic call in Holiday Hills. Maness and Deputy Khalia Satkiewicz both were injured after responding Oct. 16, 2014, to the Holiday Hills home of 53-year-old Scott B. Peters who Dwight fired more than a dozen rounds Maness at the responding officers. Peters was convicted of multiple charges, including attempted murder of police officers. He was sentenced to 135 years in prison. The board plans to discuss the plans for
