Each year, hundreds of students take the first step toward successful careers at Illinois Valley Community College.

IVCC sophomore Dylan Zupec of Granville will transfer to NIU to major in electrical engineering next fall. He is planning a career as an embedded system engineer.

At IVCC, the son of John and Kelly Zupec tutors fellow students in math and physics. He was recently named one of just 50 Coca-Cola Academic Team Gold Scholars and will receive a $1,500 scholarship.

His selection was based on scores he earned in the All-USA Academic Team competition, for which more than 2,000 applications were received.

As co-president of IVCC’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter, he led a volunteer service project at Upscale Resale, a thrift store in Spring Valley. As a result of that work, the group donated $500 in appliances to Illinois Valley Animal Rescue’s April silent auction. Dylan Zupec with IVAR Director Chris Ellberg
