Big Ben playing even bigger for dominant Steelers
A big comeback year for Ben Roethlisberger has the Pittsburgh Steelers thinking Super Bowl once again. Indeed, at 38 and a little over a year removed from elbow surgery, Big Ben isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. Through six games in 2020 (all Steelers wins), he’s connected on over 68 percent of his passes for 1,446 yards and 13 touchdowns against only four interceptions for a quarterback rating of 99.6. Not gaudy numbers by any stretch but certainly an indicator he’s playing solid football with minimal mistakes. That was evident in his best game of the year in Week 5, when he completed 27 of 34 passes for 239 yards and three TDs and no interceptions in a 38-29 home victory against the crossstate rival Philadelphia Eagles. In that game, Roethlisberger connected twice with rookie receiver Chase Claypool on scores. In his 17th year in the league, Roethlisberger has shown a willingness to improve his game, trying to build relationships with young receivers like Claypool while working on his footwork and placement of his deep ball. Pittsburgh center Maurkice Pouncey has taken notice, and he credits Roethlisberger with bringing out the best in his receivers. “When you have a great quarterback with a skill set like that,” he said, “you can just attack different areas of the football field.” Roethlisberger and the Steelers face a big test Thursday, Nov. 26, when they take on their AFC North rivals the Baltimore Ravens in a Thanksgiving night contest airing on NBC.

Kaley Cuoco is ‘The Flight Attendant’ in new HBO Max melodrama
It’s been a while since “The Big Bang Theory” ended, and now, Kaley Cuoco’s career is taking flight again. Though she voiced the title character in an animated “Harley Quinn” show, the actress’ main focus has been on the Chris Bohjalian bestseller “The Flight Attendant” as both star and executive producer. The limited HBO Max drama-withhumor starts streaming the first three of its eight episodes Thursday, Nov. 26, with Cuoco playing Cassie Bowden, a stewardess with no memory of what happened when she wakes up in a hotel room with a dead man near her. “Over the past few years, I’ve been looking at books to maybe produce or different stories that kind of were interesting to me,” Cuoco says, “but nothing excited me. And honestly, I read one little snippet (of this), a line of the book on Amazon. It just was one sentence and I got like this weird chill, and I called my team and said, ‘Hey, I’d love to look at the rights to this book.’ ” A bidding war ended with Cuoco winning the screen rights, “and I’m like, ‘Now what do I do?’ I didn’t believe it. I brought it to Warner Bros. and I said, ‘You know what? I think this is a great character. I think this could be a really great show.’ ” The studio then matched her with prolific producer Greg Berlanti – king of The CW’s DC

Universe, plus many other series – in making “The Flight Attendant.” Rosie Perez, Michiel Huisman (“Game of Thrones”), Zosia Mamet (“Girls”) and “Grey’s Anatomy” alum T.R. Knight are among additional stars. For all her television experience, dating back to “8 Simple Rules” and the original “Charmed,” Cuoco notes she has learned a lot from “The Flight Attendant” providing her first major involvement behind the cameras. “I thought if we could find the right team and bring some levity to such a dark book, it could be kind of cool,” she reflects. “I laughed over the last few years working on this. I was like, ‘I know too much!’ Sometimes, you just don’t want to know all the stuff that’s going on ... but it’s been totally career-changing for me just to see it from the beginning, and to kind of go with my gut on things and make my own decisions.” Work on “The Flight Attendant” was shut down for several months by the coronavirus pandemic, when production almost was completed. The tale has given Cuoco a new appreciation of the title profession, having kept closer watch on stewardesses while traveling. “I can’t help it,” she confirms. “Now, after doing this project, I’ll be noticing flight attendants probably for the rest of my life.”

Originally created for a streaming service, this four-part 2016 miniseries (airing nightly through Thursday) picks up life among some of the beloved characters from the 2000-07 TV characters as they go through the course of a year. Tonight’s opener is “Winter,” which sees Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bledel) giddy over having an article in the New Yorker. She returns to Stars Hollow to ponder her next steps. Meanwhile, mom Lorelai (Lauren Graham) seeks a new chef for her inn and grandmother Emily (Kelly Bishop) mourns the loss of her husband.
Based on the same Rumer Godden novel that also inspired a successful 1947 feature starring Deborah Kerr, this new British limited series adaptation, airing tonight in its entirety, stars Gemma Arterton in the Kerr role of Sister Clodagh, an ambitious young nun heading a mission in the remote Himalayas. The location, a hilltop palace with a tragic history once known as the “House of Women,” proves a daunting spiritual home for the nuns, as illness and isolation take their toll. Alessandro Nivola, Diana Rigg, Gina McKee and Jim Broadbent co-star.

It was brought to me a couple of years ago, and sometimes, it takes time to get something made. I just loved the idea of a big-ensemble family comedy. Some of my favorites like that are “The Family Stone” and “Dan in Real 10
Life,” and “The Proposal” also has some big family scenes. Usually, I do romance-focused two-person stories, so I was really excited to be part of an ensemble.

I’m glad that I had those two weeks in quarantine with nothing else to do but grieve. I think that really helped, then getting back on the set felt I was really grateful to go really good. None of us had back to work, but it was strange for me. The new (and seasonally appropriate) episode “Santa’s Wild Home” explores the resilient wildlife living in Lapland, that region of northern Finland that is the home of Santa Claus, according to stories, and the real-life environment of reindeer, great gray owls, eagles, wolverines, musk oxen, brown bears and more. All are able to adapt in one way or another to live in a land of extremes, such as winter darkness for weeks on end as temperatures plunge below zero.
Two bitterly competitive TV hosts (Alison Sweeney, Marc Blucas) are dispatched to a festive small town over the Christmas season to cover the community’s holiday festivities. They’re both professional enough to act chummy while on camera, although that’s strictly for the sake of appearances. As their assignment continues, however, they begin to discover there’s far more to each other than they ever imagined. Jillian Walchuck, Ian Collins and Nicole Oliver also star in this 2020 holiday romance.

Rest assured, members of the “Today” team are back as hosts, but the event itself will be a TV-only affair, not a live public event with cheering throngs and multiple marching bands. Still on offer: colorful balloons (pulled by trucks, not human handlers), colorful costumes, floats and, of course, Santa Claus.

Finally, in prime time on NBC is the marquee matchup of the day, a battle for supremacy in the AFC North with the Pittsburgh Steelers defending home turf from the Baltimore Ravens.
Actor John O’Hurley returns with expert analyst and American Kennel Club judge David Frei to co-host this year’s event in Oaks, Pa., produced following both state and local pandemic guidelines. NBC Sports correspondent Mary Carillo also will be on hand to offer her insights. This year’s show features three new breeds appearing for the first time: the Barbet (Sporting Group), a water dog from France; the Dogo Argentino (Working Group), a smart hunting dog from South America; and the Belgian Laekenois (Herding Group), originally used in police work.
