OF ‘REINDEER GAMES HOMECOMING’ ON LIFETIME
Emily Blunt stars in “The English,” premiering Friday on Prime Video.
Not only do you star in “Reindeer Games Homecoming,” you also are an executive producer of it and you wrote it. How was it to see your words brought to life?
It was sort of surreal. I found myself pinching myself multiple times, even from the first time I got on a Zoom call with Lifetime executives about it, and I was hearing everybody talk about these characters that I had made. These people and situations came from my brain, and here was this whole team talking about them. I think it hit me again once we got on the set and started shooting. I had multiple times of crying, because I was so excited and so happy. I was so supported every step of the way by the folks at Lifetime and by my creative team. It was like everybody cared as much about this as I did, which was such a gift to me. The movie reunites you with your former “Grey’s Anatomy” colleague Justin Bruening. Had you always wanted him in it?
Oh, absolutely. When his name was brought up, I was like, “Yes, yes, yes!” We’ve been working together for 10 years on different projects, so we have this inherent trust with each other. I know how hard he works, what a team player he is, and how great our chemistry is. All those things you need to make that role and this story sing, he just has them. I was thrilled that they were going to make the offer to him, and I called him before anyone else did. Between making cable movies plus series such as “Amber Brown,” you’ve had a busy time lately. Is that to your liking?
In the past, a lot of my time in-between projects was just waiting for the phone to ring, then prepping for auditions and going, “Oh, my gosh, when am I going to get the next thing?” I’ve only been gone from home on sets for about five weeks this year, and I’ll be gone another six weeks for my next project, but everything else has been self-motivated. The post-production work on “Reindeer Games Homecoming” was wonderful but time-consuming, so I spent a ton of time reviewing when to bring in the music and special effects, and to do all the fine-tuning for it to live up to its full potential and beyond. It’s been a fun time, and I’ve actually been able to be home while doing a lot of it, which has been great.
