OF ‘AMERICAN AUTO’ ON NBC Though you’re Australian, you’re now a star of “American Auto.” How do you feel about that?

I know! I feel impostor syndrome, though I haven’t quite earned it. There’s nothing more American than a corporation that builds and owns things there, and it’s a great gig to get. I’m really glad this came my way. And NBC does great workplace comedies; they always push the boundaries, and I love that. What do you think differentiates “American Auto” within that genre?

It looks at corporate America. In “Parks and Recreation,” big decisions were being made, but not in a company that was huge. In “The Office,” it was a paper company ... but here, the decisions affect thousands of employees and millions of buyers. And the money we’re playing with is so much bigger, it’s almost “Succession”-type money, and it’s great to put something in that comedy space. What are your thoughts on showing a rather traditional workplace in the time of the coronavirus pandemic?

I think people are probably a little nostalgic toward that office environment. All the people I know in Australia who have jobs in offices are still working from home. I think they made a clever decision to not even mention the pandemic in the show, because I’m sure people will get back to their 9-to-5 schedules and water-cooler conversations and coffee breaks and those kinds of things.

You made a big impression as Elisabeth Moss’ sister in the movie “The Invisible Man.” Have you gotten a lot of comments about that?

I think I would have, but everywhere we go, we wear face masks! Also, I’m not always very observant; my husband will sometimes say, “Those people are looking at you,” and I won’t have noticed. I fly under the radar, just walking around in a baseball cap and overalls most of the time, but that’s how it’s been for my whole career.
