SPECIAL EVENT LOMC 5K benefit Nov. 1

Lutheran Outdoor Ministries Center in Oregon is planning a 5K benefit on Nov. 1.

Participants can run, walk or cycle their way through LOMC or at any place in their community on their schedule. Those that participate are asked to make a $25 donation to LOMC and promote the benefit by email, social media or otherwise and find sponsors that will donate in honor of their efforts in the 5K.

Each participant needs sponsors. Donors can join “teams” and choose an amount to donate in honor of their runner, walker or cycler.

LOMC is over 600 acres of prairie, hills, a pond, forest and more. The benefit is taking place to help combat losses due to COVID-19 including its summer programs.

Thanks for Biden endorsement

Thanks so much for your endorsement of Joe Biden.

After all the chaos of the last few days, it was a breath of fresh air for me, reassuring that we do have thinking people in our press. A 90-year-old faithful reader.

Library says thanks

Dear Editor,

The Mt. Morris Public Library would like to thank all of the sponsors for this year’s summer reading program.

It was a very strange summer for all of us, but the support from the community has made things so much easier.

We had to use a virtual format this year, but those who participated navigated it well. It was thanks to our donors that we were able to use that option.

We would like to thank the following for their donations that helped our program to be a success: Exelon, Sullivan’s, Spectrum Preferred Meats, Rat Worx, MM Super Wash, Custom Seal & Rubber Products, Kandu LLC, Sterling Federal Bank, Paul Smith, Reising Insurance, Gesin, Inc., Hough’s Maple Lane Farm, and the Oregon Soap Shoppe. We also have a jar on the counter where people drop change for the summer reading program. This year’s total for those anonymous donations was $113.30. Every penny counts!

We are very fortunate to live in a community that cares about the children. We are grateful for all the support we receive. Even at this strange time, we will continue to serve the best we can. Thank you!

Not happy with Ogle County Board noise ordinance

To the Editor:

This is to comment on the way Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle and the Ogle County Board is dealing with Sledgehammer’s, a new business in Ogle County.

The County Board has failed to have a noise ordinance in effect and the Sheriff’s Department has made 12 arrest for noise complaints for which there is no ordinance. They, of course have had to change the charge to disorderly conduct.

At the very lest, the County Board is guilty of neglect of duty and the sheriff’s department is guilty of harassment of Sledgehammers, encouraging people to file complaints, bullying, and unprofessional conduct.

In closing, I would address a comment made by the sheriff in regard to measuring noise. The most common measurement is in decibels and the sheriff indicated they couldn’t afford anything to measure the noise by ear. I believe this would be like having imaginary stop signs or guessing at car speeds.

I also will state, I have no connection with, nor have I ever been in Sledgehammer’s.
