POLO – Rita Ann Lawton, 92, of Polo, passed away on September 27, 2020 at Polo Rehab and Health Center with her children at her side.
She was born Oct. 19, 1927, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to Andrew and Celestine Lunz and was raised in Chicago.
She married Donald Lawton on June 22, 1946. Donald preceded her in death MICHAEL SMYTH
FORRESTON – It is with great sadness that the family of Michael Smyth announce his passing on Tuesday, April 7, 2020. Michael “Leroy” Smyth passed away at his home in Forreston, at the age of 65, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Mike was born on May 15, 1954 in Freeport to Leslie and Betty (Rinderman) Smyth.

AMBOY – Martha Jean Wojtkiewicz-Wagner, age 95, of Amboy, passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 in Serenity Hospice & Home, Oregon.
Martha Jean was born on March 30, 1925 in Eldena, the daughter of Elbert & Olive (Shuck) Shoemaker.
She was a 1943 graduate of Amboy High School, Amboy.

Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle reports the following police activity.
Sept. 29
Corey Carter, 36, of Steward, was arrested at 6:07 p.m. for battery after deputies were dispatched to the 6,000 block of South Sarah Avenue in Rochelle for the report of a disturbance. Carter was released from the scene on an I-Bond and will appear in court at a later date.
Sept. 30
Daniel Rice, 40, of Muscatine, Iowa on Nov. 21, 1975.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Katherine Jelick and Dorothy Greenan; and two brothers, Robert Lunz and Ray Lunz, all of Chicago.
Rita is survived by her sister, Jean Lawton; daughter, Dorothy (Mark) fer, Inc. for more than 20 years, and then worked at Estes Express for 20 years.
Mike loved toasting his friends at Josh’s Saloon, playing the slots and he never turned down a good meal.
He also loved riding his Harley and spending time with his family and friends. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Leslie; his mother, Betty; and his four children, Tugger, Bert and Ernie. nance Plant, Amboy, before becoming a mother and homemaker.
She was a past member of St. Patrick Church, Amboy, IL. Martha Jean loved taking care of family and friends, and she was known for her pies.
She married Robert J. Wojtkiewicz on was arrested on a driving while license suspended warrant. Rice had a bond of $3,000/ 10% and remained in the Ogle County Jail pending a court appearance.
Oct. 1
Jacob A. Haws, 34, of Rockford was arrested for a failure to appear warrant. He posted $2,625.50 as bond and was released from jail.
Oct. 2
Robert Curatola II, 33, of Oregon was arrested at 11:55 p.m. for driving while under the influence of alcohol after deputies conducted a traffic stop in the Dusing; son, Dan (Cathy) Lawton; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Rita retired from head cook at the Polo schools, where she worked for over 25 years. She then spent the next 18 years employed at PNC, Inc. in Polo, and an additional 10 years as a volunteer at Centennial Elementary School.
Rita was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He is survived by his two stepchildren, Mike (Heather) Dietmeier and Jennifer Dietmeier; his sister, Diane (Larry) Asche; brother, Les (Rosemary) Smyth; and several nieces, great-nieces, nephews and a great-nephew, Angie Pascoli, Michele (Brian and Jillian) Bergman, Dan (Jessica and Reagan) Asche, Christian Smyth, Rachael (Micah and Miles) Van Sept. 5, 1944 in St. Sebastian Church, Chicago, and he preceded her in death on April 4, 1983.
On May 6, 1987 she married Daniel H. Wagner in the Candlelight Wedding Chapel, Las Vegas, Nevada, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 24, 1994.
Martha Jean is survived by five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands; son, Gary Wojtkiewicz; daughter, Carol Blum; one brother, 6,000 block of North Illinois 2.
Curatola II also received citations for equipment violation and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
Curatola II was transported to the Ogle County Jail where he was released to correctional staff and held in lieu of bond.
Oct. 3
Jeremy Probasco, 32, of Holcomb was arrested at 2:11 p.m. for driving while license revoked after deputies responded to the intersection of Allen and Second Streets in Holcomb for a

A memorial has been established in Rita’s name and may be directed to Polo Family Funeral Home, 110 E. Dixon St. Polo, Illinois 61064.
A private mass and burial will take

Due to COVID-19, a private graveside service will be held Saturday, Oct. 10.
Mike’s family is requesting those wanting to share a memory may do so at the Forreston Memorial Park on Saturday, Oct. 10 from 12:30 until 2:30 p.m.
Afterwards, anyone wishing to raise a toast to Mike may proceed on to his favorite hangout, Josh’s Saloon.

Martha Jean will be laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery, Dixon, and at her request, there will be no services.

Malcolm McNeal, 37, of Rockford was arrested at 12:27 a.m. for driving on a revoked license after deputies conducted a traffic stop in the 19,000 block of East Illinois 64 for an equipment violation. McNeal was transported to the Ogle County Jail and held in lieu of bond.
