Morris YMCA
Summer Day Camp returns for the 2025 season
With the completion of its new 60,000 square foot facility in December, the Morris Hospital YMCA will be ready and waiting for day campers this summer. The new facility located at 2200 Dupont Avenue features an eight-lane lap pool, a state-of-the-art health and wellness center, a gymnasium and indoor walking track, group exercise studios, a cycling room, a healthy eating kitchen, youth play spaces, and meeting rooms.
Now summer day campers will be able to swim four days a week in the facility’s new pool, Morris Hospital YMCA camp director Jordan Overton said. In addition, day campers to the 10-week YMCA summer program will have plenty of time out and about on the specially organized field trips which are all part of the YMCA’s day camp experience, she added. This includes trips to Blackberry Farm, Cypress Cove, Altitude Trampoline Park as well as volunteering at Feed My Starving Children.
Overton said, the camp gives kids the opportunity to make friends, build confidence, and the opportunity to try new things. Each week has a theme that includes superheroes, stars and stripes, and outdoor explorers with special activities tied to the theme. Visitors are scheduled to come to the camp including staff of Morris Hospital who will be offering classes on safety, handwashing, and a teddy bear clinic. This is in addition to teambuilding, arts and crafts, reading time, STEM activities that campers rotate through each day.
The Morris Hospital YMCA offers a safe, affordable and fun summer day camp program for children between kindergarten and 8th grade. The 2025 camp dates are June 2 through August 8 with camp hours from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The cost of the camp for members is $215 per week per child and $240 per week for community members. Registration for members begins on March 8 and community members can register beginning March 15. Families can sign up for each week individually—so if they are on vacation, they do not have to sign up for that week. Also, no one is turned away from the YMCA for inability to pay.

Offering the same banking opportunities as a “big bank” with locations in Morris and Wilmington, Grundy Bank still considers itself a local community bank. In doing so, it is dedicated to providing customers with the latest technology in secure banking while also taking the time to support the local community and local causes. When an individual comes to Grundy Bank for their mortgage, Christine Mendez, Marketing and Sales Director of Grundy Bank said that mortgage stays at the bank. The homeowner is not going to be dealing with someone in a different town or state, she added.
In the coming weeks, with its close ties through generations to local farming families, Mendez said, the more than 160-year-old Grundy Bank will be celebrating National Agricultural Week by providing educational opportunities for customers. “We want to acknowledge that farming has such an importance on the economy,” she added. The bank also will be recognizing National Consumer Protection Week which raises awareness about fraud and common scams.
For its business clients, Grundy Bank has rolled out a new tool—Positive Pay to safeguard against check fraud. “It operates by cross-referencing checks presented for payment with a comprehensive list submitted by the business, detailing every check issued. Should any discrepancies arise, indicating potential fraud, these checks are flagged and promptly brought to the business’s attention for verification, thereby reinforcing security by preventing unauthorized transactions,” according to Mendez.
Throughout the year, Grundy Bank sponsored various events to give back to the community including a coat and accessory drive in the fall which collected more than 400 coats and 100 accessory items such as hats and gloves. In the summer, it hosts an annual hot dog eating contest where local nonprofits nominate one individual to eat as many hot dogs as they can to earn a donation from the bank. In July, the bank sponsors an ice cream social benefiting We Care’s Back to School program. Grundy Bank also continues to provide financial literacy programs for all ages from girl scouts to high school students.

Metal roofs can be designed in choices that include shake, shingle, slate, standing seam as well as custom work, it is the “best of both worlds,” according to Haan.

Roth Jorstad strives to be your hometown independent insurance agency
After temporarily relocating down the street for most of 2024, the staff of Roth Jorstad Insurance is back in their building on Liberty Street in newlyrenovated offices and a forward-thinking mindset.
Last January, a combination of several unfortunate weather events-- first snow, followed by rain, and a rapid drop in temperature led to a collapse of the roof of the 1916 building. This forced the office staff to relocate down the street for one year working at the site of the nearly complete McBride’s Pub and Grille until the building could be renovated. The incident forced the insurance agency to momentarily postpone their 90th anniversary celebration –a milestone they plan on making up for in 2025.
After all Roth Jorstad Insurance Agency has been on the corner of Liberty Street and Jefferson Street for a “very long time,” Deb Baker, Roth Jorstad Insurance Agency manager said. Before the roof collapse, when talking about insurance and the level of coverage Baker would sometimes joke to clients, “We are trying to make sure if the roof caves, you are covered.” Nowadays, Baker shared that after living through a roof collapse, she typically doesn’t use that reference. However, the insurance agency still is dedicated to providing its clients with the best coverage at the best price.
The business covers many different areas of insurance varying from farm and crop insurance which is primarily handled by Steven and Jordan Jorstad. Home and auto, life, and commercial business insurance is handled by Sandy Wiekert, Cindy McCormack, Rebekah Barla, and Baker. “We work with many companies,” Baker added, “We shop our companies and find the best fit for our customers.” Due to the changing market, she added, more than ever her team is revisiting clients’ policies to ensure that they are in the best place. Insurance is for those things that an individual could not afford to take care of when catastrophe happens, Baker said. “Most folks are not going to be able to rebuild their house if it burns down,” she added, “They need assistance” and that is why Roth Jorstad serves the community. The Roth Jorstad Insurance Agency is located at 322 Liberty Street, Morris and can be reached at (815) 942-4900 or https://rothjorstadinsuranceagencyllc.com/

Interventional cardiologists Dr. Athar Saeed (front left) and Dr. Syed Ahmed with the Morris Hospital Cath Lab team in front of the new $1.7 million cardiovascular angiographic system that is used to provide lifesaving cardiovascular care.
Morris Hospital Continues Strong Commitment to Advanced Cardiovascular Services
For 22 years, Morris Hospital has been providing advanced, lifesaving heart care in its Catheterization (Cath) Lab. This is the location in the hospital where specially trained cardiologists implant pacemakers and defibrillators to help regulate the heart’s rhythm. It’s where interventional cardiologists perform procedures to diagnose and open blocked arteries, such as coronary and peripheral angiography, angioplasty, and stenting. It’s where lives are saved during a heart attack.
Morris Hospital has demonstrated its commitment to continuing a strong tradition of advanced cardiovascular care with the recent installation of a new cardiovascular angiographic system for the Cath Lab. The new Siemens Healthineers ARTIS Icono system was selected for its enhanced image quality, giving cardiologists even better visualization of the coronary and peripheral vessels when diagnosing and treating heart and vascular conditions.
The $1.7 million Cath Lab replacement project is being funded through generous donors to the Morris Hospital Auxiliary & Foundation.
The most dramatic use of this advanced technology in the Morris Hospital Cath Lab is during a STEMI, a type of heart attack in which the
coronary artery is completely blocked. Guided by images obtained with the angiographic system, specially trained cardiologists at Morris Hospital are able to open blocked arteries and restore blood flow to the heart during a procedure called coronary angioplasty. Stents – which are tiny, wire mesh tubes – are used with angioplasty to hold the artery open.
“When a patient is having a heart attack, time is of critical importance,” said Jori Christensen, Director of Cardiovascular Services at Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers. “That is why we have a team from the Cath Lab on call and ready to respond at all times in the event that a patient needs lifesaving cardiac intervention.”
“As a resident of Grundy County myself, I believe we are very fortunate that our local community hospital provides such an advanced level of cardiac care. Lives are saved because of the capabilities of the Morris Hospital Cath Lab,” she said.
Morris Hospital’s comprehensive cardiac services also includes cardiac testing to diagnose suspected heart or circulation problems, such as electrocardiography, echocardiography, holter monitoring, tilt table testing, and various types of stress tests.
Morris Hospital’s cardiac rehabilitation program is
also an important component of the comprehensive cardiac services. Through monitored exercise, nutrition counseling, and education on lifestyle modifications, the program helps individuals with heart disease recover faster and regain full, productive lives. Cardiac Rehabilitation recently relocated from the Diagnostic & Rehabilitative Center just north of Interstate 80 on Gore Road to the new Morris Hospital YMCA at 2200 W. Dupont Avenue on the west side of Morris.
Central to Morris Hospital’s comprehensive cardiovascular services is Morris Hospital Cardiovascular Specialists, a cardiology practice with office locations in Morris, Channahon, Dwight and Ottawa. The practice includes interventional cardiologists Dr. Syed Ahmed, Dr. Mostafa Ghanim, and Dr. Athar Saeed; general cardiologists Dr. Mary Menz and Dr. Hershel Wix; and cardiology nurse practitioner Sherese Pruss. In addition, Dr. Alexander Green, an electrophysiologist from Loyola University Medical Center, sees patients with heart rhythm conditions in the Morris Hospital Cardiovascular Specialists’ Morris office.

Looking Out Vision dedicated to patient care
A move across Jefferson Street in downtown Morris this past summer did not slow down the optometrists and staff of Looking Out Vision one bit. On its opening day at its new location, Dr. Jennifer Jacobs, the owner of Looking Out Vision, and Dr. George Roebuck got right to work continuing to provide quality, comprehensive eye care--following an approximately 80-year tradition. With much gratitude for their patients, the community, and staff members, Dr. Jacobs and Dr. Roebuck are determined to carry on the tradition of serving the community.
With more than 20 years’ experience in her field, in 2022, Dr. Jacobs joined Dr. Roebuck’s optometry practice, Roebuck Family Eyecare. In 2023, Dr. Jacobs purchased the business with the goal of carrying out Dr. Roebuck’s tradition of providing the highest quality vision care. Despite the change of hands and a name change, Dr.

Dr. Jennifer Jacobs
Roebuck still is hard at work at the optometry practice--something he has his sights on continuing to do for a long time.

Dr. George Roebuck
Changing the name to Looking Out Vision was done to reflect their vision of looking out for one another, working together, and taking care of
one another. The two optometrists who met years ago volunteering their time for back-to-school eye exams are both committed to giving back to the community. Dr. Roebuck is involved with the Lions Club and Dr. Jacobs serves on the board of I Care International, a local nonprofit that conducts mission trips to provide eye care in impoverished countries. When considering eye disease, Dr. Jacobs said, “The importance of early detection for so many conditions is critical.” She added there are many systemic conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or even cancer that can be detected through an eye exam. That annual eye exam, Dr. Jacobs said, is important for eye health, but it is also important for overall health.
Looking Out Vision is located at 124 Jefferson, Morris. For appointments visit https://lookingoutvision.com/ or call (815) 942-1951

The BEST and most innovative Vein Treatments Right in your backyard at Eterna MedSpa & Laser Vein Center
Eterna
MedSpa & Laser Vein Center offers the latest techniques in varicose and spider vein procedures by a team of professional doctors and staff that care about your experience.

“We are proud to be voted the 2024 BEST Cosmetic Center in the Will County area several years in a row. Making cuttingedge vein solutions available to the residents of Will and Grundy County, right here in Shorewood, Il. “ said Kathe Malinowski at Eterna MedSpa & Vein Laser Center.
Varicose Veins are a common condition caused by weak or damaged vein walls and valves. Spider veins are a mild form of varicose veins that affect smaller vessels. Everyone’s treatment needs are different based on the size and location of their veins.

At Eterna MedSpa & Vein and Laser Center they offer a no obligation Free consultation, so they can determine the best course of treatment specifically for you.
“We will conduct a physical exam and ask about your symptoms, family history, activity levels, and lifestyle. Image testing, such as an ultrasound may also be done. This noninvasive method uses sound waves to assess blood flow through the vessels in your legs. It is common to recommend an ultrasound to diagnose varicose veins and get a clearer picture.” said Malinowski. Treatments for varicose and spider veins include:
Sclerotherapy - Sclerotherapy involves injecting a solution into the vein. The sclerotherapy solution causes the vein to shrink. Causing blood to flow through healthier veins. The collapsed vein then fades.
Venaseal - Minimally invasive procedure that uses a medical glue to close affected veins. This special glue holds the walls of the veins together, stopping and then redirecting the blood flow to healthy veins. With time, your body will absorb the inactive veins, and they will disappear.
RFA (Radio-Frequency Ablation) - This treatment is minimally invasive technique uses heat created by radio-frequency to shut down the vein and redirect the blood flow to the healthy veins.

In early 2025, Silver Cross Hospital earned a distinguished three-star rating from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) for its patient care and outcomes in isolated coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) procedures. The three-star rating, which denotes the highest category of quality, places Silver Cross among the most elite for open heart surgery in the United States and Canada. The hospital’s heart surgery program launched in May 2019.
“This is the second major award our heart surgery program has earned since October, when Healthgrades ranked Silver Cross #2 for Cardiac Surgery in Illinois, right in between two of Chicago’s leading academic medical centers,” said Michael Mutterer, RN, MA, LCPC, CADC, LNHA, Silver Cross President and CEO. “The credit for these extraordinary accomplishments goes to cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Pat Pappas and his associates at Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgical Associates, our Cardiovascular Unit, Cardiovascular
Operating Room team, Procedural Care Unit and all those who support heart surgery at Silver Cross.”
The STS star rating system is one of the most sophisticated and highly regarded overall measures of quality in healthcare, rating the benchmarked outcomes of cardiothoracic surgery programs across the United States and Canada. The star rating is calculated using a combination of quality measures for specific procedures performed by an STS Adult Cardiac Surgery Database participant.
“The Society of Thoracic Surgeons congratulates STS National Database participants who have received three-star ratings,” said David M. Shahian, MD, chair of the Task Force on Quality Measurement. “Only a very small percentage of participants nationally achieve this important recognition.”
The Society of Thoracic Surgeons is a not-forprofit organization representing more than 7,700 cardiothoracic surgeons, researchers and allied healthcare professionals worldwide who are dedicated to ensuring the best possible outcomes for surgeries of the heart, lung and esophagus, as well as other surgical procedures within the chest. The Society’s mission is to enhance the ability of cardiothoracic surgeons to provide the highest quality patient care through education, research and advocacy.
