Born: Oct. 8, 1942; in Morris, IL Died: March 3, 2015; in Morris, IL Sharon L. Harr, 72, of rural Morris, passed away Tuesday evening, March 3, 2015 at her home with her loving family by her side. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. at the Fruland Funeral Home, 121 W. Jefferson St., in Morris with Pastor Steven Lombardo II officiating. Private inurnment will take place at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home.

Born October 8, 1942 in Morris, she was the daughter of John and Marjorie (Sharpe) Dickman.

She graduated from Morris Community High School with the class of 1960. Sharon received her nursing degree in Oak Park.

BRIEF She was employed as a nurse at Morris Hospital and for 29 years was the school nurse at Saratoga Grade School.

She is survived by her husband; three children, Patricia Schneider of Morris, Kathleen Nelson of Roscoe and Michael Harr of Morris; eight grandchildren; one brother, John(Nancy) Dickman of Rockford; several nieces and nephews; two longtime friends, Kathryn Chord and Sandy Barbier. Preceding her in death were her parents.

Sharon enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, gardening, reading, camping, was a strong supporter of the scouting programs and spending time with her family, grandchildren and friends. Bernadette was born on August 20, 1935. She married Elton Sancken on September 17, 1994, in Dwight. She worked at Zenith for many years in Chicago, and moved to Dwight to raise a family. While living in Dwight, she was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mae Janus; and her brother, John.

Mock Trial Team was No. 1 at qualifier last month, in its third year competing

By JEANNE MILLSAP Shaw Media correspondent MORRIS – Later this month, Joel Heilmann of Morris will be closing attorney for the plaintiff in a wrongful death case.

He also will be a witness for the defense.

In the same case.

But in a different trial.

It may sound confusing, but Heilmann is not a real lawyer, and the trial is only a mock one, played out over and over again in tournaments throughout the season.

The son of Steve and Barb Heilmann of Morris, Heilmann is a senior at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, studying political science with an eye for law school next fall.

He and his teammates on the NIU Mock Trial Team A blew their competitors out of the courtroom, winning the American Mock Trial Association’s Championship Series Qualifier in February.

Heilmann also brought home an award for Outstanding Witness earlier this year.

The team goes to Geneva on March 20 to 22 for the opening round of the National Championship Series.

“We were 8-0 in regionals,” Heilmann said. “We were the No. 1 team. We had the most wins, and we were the only undefeated team, and that secured us a bid to nationals.

This is unheard of for a program in its third year of competition.”

This is Heilmann’s second year at NIU and his second on the team.

He transferred there after getting his associate degree at Joliet Junior College. wHe said the team’s success results from a combination of hard work, team members who work well together and a great coach.

“We have really good chemistry,” he said of his

Heilmann has wanted to be a lawyer since he was at least 12, growing up watching “JAG” and “Law & Order” on TV with his mother.

His dream is to become an attorney for the U.S. Air Force Judge Advocate General Corps (JAG Corps).

Students on the university mock trial teams received their cases in early fall. There are two teams at NIU, and each team receives one case members work on and present all year.

“Student teams are assigned one case to work on per year, and the teams are

not scored by the verdict, but by their performance and the work they do,” political science professor Mitch Pickerill, NIU’s mock trial team coach, said in a news release.

Pickerill started the team two years ago after several students approached him about setting up a program.

The workload to learn the cases and the laws behind each one is enormous, and each team member must fit it in with course loads.

Each case comes with about

140 pages of case material, including affidavits, dispositions and evidence.

“It’s a ton of work to have to do,” Heilmann said. “The teams don’t really hit their strides until the middle of the semester.”

At each tournament, each team presents two rounds representing the plaintiff and two rounds representing the defendant.

LOCAL NEWS President Cook gives last State of the Village address

By JEANNE MILLSAP Shaw Media correspondent CHANNAHON – Village President Joe Cook’s 12th and last State of the Village address Wednesday was an emotional one, consisting not only of a recitation of changes in Channahon over the past year, but also of reflections of his tenure as mayor and trustee.

Cook’s term is up in April, and he chose not to run for re-election.

“When I took the office of Channahon village president there was a trailer court at one end of town and a cornfield at the other, both connected by a two-lane, broken-down road,” he said.

A multimillion dollar development be constructed in the trailer court’s place this summer at the northwest corner of the Route 6/Interstate 55 intersection.

Reconstruction of the interchange’s bridge and ramps is set to begin in the spring. To

the south, the Bluff Road/I-55 interchange also will see improvements in the future, including an expansion of the village’s water to the east side of the interstate.

The village’s water quality is another accomplishment Cook said he had a hand in during his tenure.

“When I took office ... our residents received letters in the mail warning them of the dangers of drinking our water,” he said. “We were given a deadline ... but I wanted it fixed right away, and we immediately started work on our first water treatment plant that, when finished, became a showcase for the type of process.”

Cook also announced recipients of three awards given annually at the address. Channahon Police Department Detective Matt Brooks was named the William Kennedy Police Officer of the Year; Packard Transport was named Fred Rittof/George Sparagis

Business of the Year; and Pastor Joe Pospischil, of Living Stones Church, was named Amos Moose Hayse Citizen of the Year.

After the meeting, Pospischil said he was honored at being chosen for the award.

The pastor said he knew it was time to follow the calling of the Lord when the position of a new colleague of his in the public works department was slated for termination.

Pospischil took his place, leaving a secure position for an uncertain ministry serving those in need. The Living Manna Food Pantry in the church now serves about 2,000 people each month.

“We’re very benevolent,” Pospischil said. “We have a food pantry Tuesdays and Saturdays every week, and we take things to shut-ins. The whole upstairs of the church is dedicated to benevolent because we’re committed to the calling. We’ll exhaust every opportunity we have.”

Cook said the village is in a strong, stable position, with cash reserves of more than 50 percent of yearly expenditures and all funds positive. He said he leaves Channahon as a “people’s office,” where people feel more comfortable than ever working with the city.

He often overcame others telling him it couldn’t be done,

he said, but always followed his father’s advice of not quitting and not backing down.

“I am confident that I will be leaving office with Channahon being an even better community than it was 12 years ago,” Cook said, “but Channahon’s best days are still ahead.

Channahon’s potential, if fostered correctly, is unlimited.”

By HEIDI LITCHFIELD hlitchfield@shawmedia.com COAL CITY – Discussions continue with Grundy County and Coal City officials regarding liability issues when it comes to Coal City police backing up the sheriff’s department on calls to neighboring communities such as Diamond and Carbon Hill.

“We’re determining who needs to be at the table as we prepare to host a meeting to see if there can be some type of intergovernmental agreement to aid Coal City,” Grundy County Board Chairman

David Welter said Wednesday.

“We expect invitations to the meeting to go out in the next few days.”

Diamond is one of a few villages in Grundy County that contracts with the sheriff’s department for policing instead of having its own department, according to Sheriff Kevin Callahan.

Coal City previously asked Grundy County to provide liability insurance for its officers when responding with aid to the sheriff’s department.

The county, under the advice of Grundy County State’s Attorney Jason Helland and

City taxpayers who pay for the police department.

“They don’t handle the call, they have no legal authority, but they do stand by and help restore peace until a deputy can get there. That’s what police do,” Callahan said. “I don’t agree the county should assume liability because we have no control over their police or how they are trained.”

He said the two departments have a good working relationship and he hopes it can continue.

Fritz said if insurance can’t be provided for when Coal City assists other communities, village police may eventually have to decide to no longer respond.

County to hold off on life skills house Timeline deemed too fast for current build cycle

By HEIDI LITCHFIELD hlitchfield@shawmedia.com MORRIS – The county has decided to hold off on a special education life skills house proposed to be constructed on county property.

“The timeline that GAVC [Grundy Area Vocational Center] needs is too fast for us to move forward right now,” Grundy County Board Chairman David Welter said Wednesday. “We will continue to work with the co-op [Special Education Cooperative] to see if it can happen in the next build cycle, which will be in two years.”

In January officials continued to discuss whether the life skills house for special education students could or should be built on the Grundy County Administration Center campus.

GAVC Director Lance Copes said due to its building trades class schedule, a decision is needed soon so the school can move forward with going out to bid on the foundation by April so it can be finished during the sum-

mer months. This would allow students to start building when they return to school in the fall. Each home takes two years to complete as work is done during the school year.

“We can’t hold up the plans because of the students,” Copes said.

Neil Sanburg, executive director of the co-op, said he hopes to continue to work with the County Board so plans are ready when the next build cycle presents itself at GAVC. “We are encouraged that with the timeline we will be able to get everything done,” Sanburg said. “I believe in the concept of kids doing a project for other kids, who are their classmates. It’s a wonderful idea.”

If the life skills house moves forward on county property, it would be used as a nontraditional, community-based classroom and allow students in special education classes to learn skills such as cooking, cleaning and paying bills.

Students between the ages of 18 and 21 who are involved in the co-op’s REACH transition program would use the

Typically between 15 and 20 students participate in the program. The idea for the house to be built on county property came after residents of Fields of Saratoga objected to the house being built in their subdivision.

Copes said GAVC and its building trades class are ready to move forward with the construction of a ranch style home on property it owns in the Deer Ridge subdivision in Morris. This house will built by students and later sold as it has with previous house projects.

“We’ve had the designs ready for both the home and the life skills house just in case,” he said.

This will be GAVC’s first home in Deer Ridge, which is located off Route 6.

and a verdict might not even be pronounced.

There’s never a “smoking gun” in a mock trial, either.

“It never goes the same way twice,” he said. “There are a lot of variables. We don’t know what witnesses they will call or what their theory of the case will be.”

The case teams compete with this year involves an 11-year-old child who is visiting a friend, Sydney, and somehow ends up shooting and killing Sydney with a gun that was in Sydney’s house.

MORRIS DAILY HERALD MORRIS – The Grundy Kendall Regional Office of Education held its local spelling bee at the Morris Community High School Auditorium Saturday.

Twenty public and private schools from Grundy and Kendall counties sent their school spelling bee champion to compete for an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, according to a news release from the Grundy Kendall Regional Office of Education.

Aditya Nadkarni edged out Cameron Cimino of Minooka Junior High School to become the Regional Spelling Bee champion.

Celebrating Nasdaq milestone too early

Love and sacrifice in Korea Eun-man is 26 years old.

He was born with cerebral palsy. He spent 14 years in a hospital, and many people are grateful for it.

During his hospital stay, his father, a pastor in South Korea, wound up ministering to other children, many of them with disabilities, many of them abandoned. He adopted some of them. And the children in need kept coming.

Eun-man’s life has been a lifesaver. Abandonment of newborn babies is a common practice in South Korea. A mother can’t handle the child she has given birth to. So she or someone else leaves the baby in front of a home, hoping those inside will take on the responsibility that she can’t. Sometime around 2008, Lee Jong-rak, Eun-man’s father, noticed that these children were everywhere.

And many of them didn’t survive, dying of exposure before anyone could get to them. He knew he had to do something.

VIEWS Kathryn Jean Lopez to some of these children, they sent out invitations, so to speak. The community church they run has become a home for the abandoned and disabled. They established a “baby box,” a warm bin in which mothers can anonymously leave their babies with the assurance that the babies will be cared for.

Hannah was one of the abandoned. Hannah’s mother – who was in middle school – had taken drugs while pregnant, and her daughter was born with a brain disease.

She had to breathe through her neck and eat through her nose. It was quite the effort to care for her, but Pastor Lee and his wife did so with love.

So much so that they were heartbroken when she died, at 6 years old.

As Young Ran Jeong, a director at Pastor Lee’s church,

describes it, “Hannah lived a beautiful life and left us.”

Rather than question whether such a painful life was worth the effort of the people who cared for Hannah and Hannah herself, Lee sees Hannah and her struggle as both a gift and an inspiration.

Lee says that he “learned about the dignity of valuable life” through his son.

People such as Pastor Lee and his wife make it clear there is no such thing as an unwanted baby. If every one of us could only tap into the depths of our hearts for the love and sacrifice that the world needs. That’s what Pastor Lee, his wife and his church did. And countless Korean children are alive because of it.

Break out the champagne. The tech-fueled Nasdaq closed at 5,000 Monday for the first time since 2000. Despite a small drop Tuesday, it’s within range of breaking the all-time high closing of 5,048.62.

When the tech bubble burst in 2000, naysayers declared that Silicon Valley’s best days were behind it, and Rust Belt denizens took a perverse joy in seeing the industry (Pets.com? Really?) get its comeuppance. But today the success of Apple, Google and Facebook, hardly flashes in the pan, are fueling a boom.

With what seem like daily developments in everything from sensors to medical monitoring devices to driverless vehicles, it’s clear that entrepreneurs haven’t run out of marketable ideas.

This is a boom, not a bubble, but booms by nature cannot last forever.

Historically, chip sales have been the primary indicator of industry ups and downs.

The Semiconductor Industry Association recently announced that chip sales hit an all-time high of $335.8 billion in 2014, marking the second year in a row of record-high sales and reinforcing the Nasdaq’s indications. But already, forecasters are predicting a slowdown in chip sales in 2015.

Chip performance is a harbinger because orders reflect the optimism of corporate leaders, from startups to veterans such as Apple.

In a boom cycle, companies are optimistic about their ability to capture additional market share

against their competitors, so they place chip orders accordingly.

But it’s impossible for every business to be tops in its field; competition has to have winners and losers, and as some fall behind their targets, chip orders drop.

Other types of shrinkage, like layoffs, can follow.

The relatively young tech industry has seen eight boom and bust cycles, each featuring several years of incredible chip growth followed by a drop in sales.

For three decades through 2002, chip sales each year either increased by greater than 20 percent or declined by at least 10 percent.

The numbers haven’t been quite as dramatic since the 2000 bubble burst, but they still follow the pattern.

While search engines and software advances capture our attention, this is still a chip-based economy. The cars Apple and Google are working on will pack them in. Medical technology, robotics, you name it – chips make things run.

The best companies weather ups and downs.

Those that fail make way for a new wave of entrepreneurs eager to turn the next big thing loose on the American economy.

If we can avoid steep plunges, it’s healthy.

The key is to continue nurturing the innovative minds that make this region one of the most interesting places to be in the world.

If we recovered from the catastrophe of 2000, we can survive whatever lies ahead.

Butler shines in Minooka team effort Indians earn shot at No. 1 seed Neuqua Valley

By DICK GOSS dgoss@shawmedia.com JOLIET – Earlier this basketball season, Minooka boys basketball coach Scott Tanaka’s statement raised a few eyebrows. “I think Joe Butler is the best player in our conference,” he said.

Minooka toils in the Southwest Prairie Conference, where the big names include Plainfield North’s Trevor Stumpe and Plainfield East’s Aaron Jordan, both seniors.

Stumpe will play his college ball at NCAA Division I Wofford and Jordan has signed with Illinois. After Minooka’s 61-45 victory over Joliet West in Tuesday’s second semifinal at the Class 4A Joliet West Regional, Tanaka said it again.

“Joe Butler is the best player in our conference,” he said.

“This is exactly why I said it previously. It’s why in my opinion he is one of the top players in the state.”

All Butler did Tuesday was hit 11 of 12 shots, including all three 3-point attempts, and 7 of 10 free throws for 32 points to go with 11 rebounds. He also defended the Tigers’ super sophomore, Trevian Bell, most of the night. As much as Butler accomplished, however, it was a team effort that is sending the Indians (15-15) into Friday night’s regional final against Neuqua Valley, the No. 1 seed in the Bolingbrook Sectional.

Minooka is seeded eighth.

If Neuqua shoots 3-pointers the way it did in Tuesday’s first semifinal, when the Wildcats whipped Oswego East, 8943, advancing to the sectional semifinals will be a monumental task for Minooka.

On the other hand, the Indians know what it will take – do their thing and do it well.

“That’s my old school,” Tanaka said of Neuqua. “I’m excited for the opportunity.”

Against West, Minooka led, 30-15, at halftime. The Indians stretched it to 38-20 early in the third quarter before a

7-0 West run made it 38-27 and kicked the noise level in the gym up a couple of notches.

However, Minooka scored the next six points, five by Butler, and was not seriously threatened again. “Their fans were loud, but our fans brought a lot of energy, too,” Butler said.

“They helped get us going, and we played well.”

“We had to do certain things to win this game, and we did everything right,” Tanaka said. “When they came back on us, we took care of the ball and attacked.”

When Tanaka speaks of playing well, freshman point guard Keegan Graebner steps front and center. Joliet West’s quickness and applied pressure throughout, but Graebner met the challenge. “[Butler] gets the credit, but [Graebner] should get as much or more,” West coach Nick DiForti said. “We kept after him thinking we could wear him down, and he kept getting the ball to the right spots.”

“Keegan Graebner was huge,” Tanaka said. “For a freshman point guard, he is amazing. And, we have the big man [muscular Blake Parzych] who is going to rebound every 50-50 ball.”

Butler said Parzych is a contributor in ways other than what show in the box score.

“Blake brings energy,” he said. “He plays hard and boxes out. He does a great job dishing the ball. He got it in to me a few times tonight.”

As for offense, whatever Butler did not supply, Larry Roberts did. The junior shooting guard hit two 3-pointers in the first quarter to jump-start the Indians, and he connected on a 10-foot runner from the baseline as the first quarter wound down to give Minooka a 12-6 lead. Roberts was limited to two points in the middle two quarters but came back strong in the fourth quarter when he nailed another 3-pointer, two free throws and a layup on a pretty baseline drive. STAFF REPORTS CHANNAHON – For basketball fans, this weekend will be a busy one at Families of Faith Christian Academy in Chanahon. Families of Faith is hosting the South Shore Christian Conference Final Four tournament for both boys and girls basketball.

The conference consists of 10 schools and covers a geographical area from Channahon to Granger, Ind., and is split into two divisions, East and West.

Teams to watch for in the girls tournament wil be two from the East Division.

Victory Christian of Val-

paraiso, Ind., and Granger Christian from Granger, Ind., are a combined 36-13 on the season, and Granger Christian has won the last three SSCC titles.

On the boys side, Families of Faith sports a 30-8 record and have played and beaten every school in the conference.

Grace Christian of Kankakee comes in with a 19-6 overall record, however, and their only two conference losses were to Families of Faith.

Calumet Christian (24-14) is the top seed in the East division.

On Friday, the girls semifinal games will take place at 4 and 5:30 p.m., with the boys

semis tipping off at 7 and 8:30 p.m. If Families of Faith reaches the Final Four, they will play in the 8:30 game on Friday.

On Saturday, the girls consolation game will be played at 12:30 p.m., with the boys consolation game at 2.

At 4:30, the girls will play their championship game, with the boys title game to follow at 6:30.

Blaire Harseim served eight points, while Makenna Crater and Sydney Carlos each had three.

Noah sends anti-violence messages alongside gameplay

By JOE COWLEY jcowley@suntimes.com CHICAGO – Joakim Noah met with the media for just under 10 minutes on Wednesday, discussing his left knee, his on-the-court passion again resurfacing, and his short-handed roster doing whatever it takes to win games until help returns.

Topics that Bulls fans want to hear from the two-time AllStar, but not the real message Noah wanted to get out.

After releasing an anti-violence video called “You’re Not Alone” on Tuesday, Noah let it be known that this was just another step in his push to help try and clean up the violence in not only Chicago, but in cities across the United States.

“Yeah, I think the video was very important,” Noah said.

“It’s important for people from all shapes of life to look at it as it’s not just a problem that’s just going on the South Side or the West Side. It’s everybody’s problem.

“I mean it’s a harsh reality here in Chicago. Violence is out of control. As somebody who plays for the Chicago Bulls, I just feel like it’s important to be aware and to be involved.”

According to Noah, the next step is the launch of a website called rockyourdrop.com.

Along with his mother, Cecilia, and his foundation, the hope is to raise money and help build programs to keep kids off the streets and active.

“It’s called: Rock Your Drop:

The Drop of Consciousness,” Noah said. “It’s a necklace, and you can look at everything on Rockyourdrop.com. It’s a necklace that represents a tear drop.

“It’s something we’ve been working really hard on. It’s to bring awareness to all the violence that’s going on and also that we’re all in this together, and you’re not alone. It’s our movement and we’re very proud of it, and we just hope that it can spread. The more money we raise with these drops, the programs we can put in for these kids.”

It’s not like Noah hasn’t done his research for this project, either. As well as frequent talks with Chicago-born teammates Nazr Mohammed and Derrick Rose, Noah has been helped by

award-winning journalist Alex Kotlowitz.

“We got to find solutions,” Noah said. “One way we can all help is by putting in more programs, getting these kids more jobs, getting these kids more activities, more things to do. “[I talk to Mohammed and Rose] all the time. Especially for Naz and ‘Pooh,’ they’re from here, so they understand the situations better than everybody. They grew up in it. When I go talk to the kids, and I talk to Pooh and Naz, I don’t really talk too much. I try and listen as much as possible.”

Noah isn’t just preaching anti-violence, either. He’s living it. After Wizards big man Nene knocked Noah down with a slap that was ruled a Flagrant

1 in Tuesday night’s win, Noah admitted that he didn’t get up and retaliate because of the video being released earlier in the day.

“You know, just trying to put out a video a couple of hours before the game about non-violence, and trying to teach these kids big picture,” Noah said afterward. “So it wouldn’t have been a good look, not today. You know what I mean? Not today.”

He was asked about that again on Wednesday, and if it was hard not to retaliate.

“Nah,” Noah said. He was then asked if he would have been able to keep his cool like that in the past.

“Yup,” Noah replied, as a big smirk came across his face.

No one was buying it.

Quintana quiet about replacement despite good spring showing

along with Chris Sale and Jeff Samardzija, struck out Adrian Gonzalez and Andre Ethier to end his innings.

“I threw the fastball in and out really good,” said Quintana, who admitted to having a case of nerves when Jimmy Rollins led off the bottom of the first, even though it’s spring training.

Quintana didn’t look nervous, throwing two balls in the

first inning. The Sox run production, historically poor for the tough-luck, never-complain lefty with a 3.50 career ERA and a whopping 39 career no-decisions, was good. They got four runs for him.

Quintana was replaced by 36-year-old former Dodger Brad Penny, who is trying to resurrect his career in Sox camp this spring. Quintana wouldn’t bite

on a question about whether he would want to start the Sox opener in the likely event Chris Sale (avulsion fracture in right foot) isn’t ready to go.

“It’s a possibility,” Ventura said. “We’re still kicking it around of how that’s all going to line up and how we want to do it.

He’s going to be one of the first couple. He’s always put himself in the running for a lot of things.

He just looks good. The more maturity this kid gets, he gets even better.”

Cautious response to new weight-loss drug Dear Doctor K: I heard about a new drug that can help people lose weight. I’m overweight.

Should I give it a try?

Dear Reader: You’re likely referring to Contrave, a drug the FDA approved in September of 2014 to help people lose weight along with a reduced-calorie diet and exercise.

Contrave combines two drugs, naltrexone and bupropion. These drugs are already approved for other uses.

Naltrexone is used to help kick alcohol and narcotic addiction.

Bupropion is used to treat depression and seasonal affective disorder. Many people also take bupropion to stop smoking. Neither naltrexone nor bupropion by itself has been approved for weight loss.

ASK DOCTOR K Anthony L. Komaroff Why should the combination of these drugs help with weight loss? It’s likely that the drugs act on impulse, reward and/or hunger centers in the brain to decrease appetite and dampen the reflex to seek food for comfort.

Not everyone who is overweight needs a weight loss drug. Contrave is approved for adults who are obese and for certain people who are overweight. Obese is defined as a body mass index, or BMI, of 30 or higher. Overweight adults have a BMI between 25 and

30. Overweight adults should only take Contrave if they also have at least one other weight-related condition, such as high blood pressure or Type 2 diabetes. If you don’t know your BMI, you can look it up on the BMI table I’ve put on my website, AskDoctorK.com.

The FDA approved Contrave based on the results of several clinical trials that included 4,500 overweight and obese men and women. All were treated for one year.

In one trial of people without diabetes, 42 percent of those who took Contrave lost at least 5 percent of their body weight, compared with 17 percent of those who took a placebo. In a trial of people with diabetes, 36 percent of those taking

Contrave lost at least 5 percent of their body weight, compared with 18 percent of those taking a placebo.

Like any drug, Contrave can cause unwanted, sometimes serious, side effects. Used alone, bupropion has been linked to suicidal thoughts, as well as seizures. And naltrexone use has been linked to seizures. I think the drug should be avoided by anyone who: • Has had seizures in the past • Has had an eating disorder (bulimia or anorexia nervosa) • Is taking an opioid pain medicine or a medicine to treat addiction to opioids • Is taking an antidepressant medicine called an MAOI • Is pregnant

I am reluctant to get enthusiastic about a new medicine until some time has passed.

The 4,500 people who participated in studies is a pretty large number.

However, it is a very small fraction of the total number who are likely to be prescribed the medicine. Rare but serious side effects could have been missed in the early studies.

Also, about half of the people in the studies saw no benefit. If you take the medicine for 12 weeks and see no benefit, it’s wise to talk to your doctor about stopping it.
