Letter from the County Clerk:

One of the most memorable experiences I have had in my life was the day I was sworn in as County Clerk. I have been involved in public service for a number of years, first as a member of McHenry County State’s Attorney office and then as an Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney and also on the McHenry County Board. I have always found it rewarding to serve the entire county by providing friendly and helpful service to the citizens of McHenry County.

It is a rare thing in politics to be proven right. During my election, I ran on the promise that I would update the County Clerk’s office without increasing the budget of this office. I have improved all aspects of the office with new software in the election department and in the delinquent tax department and all vital records. By purchasing new software tax payers have saved thousands of dollars on expenses.

I have enjoyed fulfilling the responsibility that my constituents have placed in me.

Prairie Trail

The entire 26 mile Prairie Trail travels from Algonquin to the Wisconsin State Line. The former Chicago and Northwestern railroad line, now takes cyclists and hikers through prairie, woodlands and alongside residential areas. The trail connects eight McHenry County communities, allowing for a safe and convenient means of travel. Along the way, the

Chain O’ Lakes State Park

Located in the heart of Illinois’ largest concentration of natural Lakes, Chain O’Lakes State Park is a

water-oriented recreation area. The park offers 6,023 acres for campers, picnickers, hikers, bicyclists, horseback riders, hunters, anglers, and boaters. There are 6 miles of hike/bike trails and 8 miles of horse trails. You will find a boat rental concession with food service/camp store and horse rental concession. Camping is popular at Chain O’Lakes, with more than 230 campsites, three cabins, and a youth group camp.

Moraine Hills State Park

From fishing to hiking and biking - from lush habitat and rare plants to watching a wealth of wildlife Moraine Hills State Park is home to a recreational bounty in northeast Illinois. Located 3 miles south of McHenry in McHenry County, the park is located near the Fox River and McHenry Dam, with about half of the park’s 2,200 acres composed of wetlands and lakes.

Volo Blog

If you’re looking for a truly unique outdoor adventure, head for Volo Bog State Natural Area in Lake County in northeastern Illinois. The site includes Volo Bog, the only quaking bog in Illinois, significant in that it exhibits all stages of bog succession. A floating mat of sphagnum moss, cattails and sedges surrounds an open pool of water in the center of the bog.
