Mendota’s mayor-council form of government, a clerk-collector, city treasurer, and city attorney serve its 7,057 residents. Accountable and accessible government, positive planned growth, and progress have been the earmark of Mendota’s administration. With a 15-member police force, the Mendota Police Department maintains 24-hour patrol. Mendota police are involved in the community with programs like DARE, Crime Stoppers, and an active Neighborhood Watch. The Mendota Fire Department has a full fleet of top firefighting and rescue equipment to handle emergencies, including three engines, one aerial tower, a heavy-duty rescue vehicle, and one rapid response vehicle. A Regional Dispatch Center serves the community and provides rapid dispatch for police, fire, and emergency services. The Mendota Civic Center is a fullservice facility situated on Lake Mendota. Used often by the entire Illinois Valley, it offers meeting, conference, and banquet rooms that seat a wide range from 15 to 500 people. Other programs include city-owned parks, CDAP Revolving Loan Fund, Tax Increment Financing, and Enterprise Zone.
