Automated breast ultrasound: An additional screening option
If you’ve been told you have dense breast tissue, there’s more you can do. Because dense tissue and cancer look similar on mammograms, some cancers can be harder to detect. Automated breast ultrasound (ABUS) uses sound waves, not radiation, to create detailed 3D images of dense breast tissue. ABUS takes about 15 minutes and provides a more complete picture alongside your mammogram. For the past two years, Automated Breast Ultrasound (ABUS) has been available at OSF HealthCare Saint Elizabeth Medical Center in Peru. What began as a service offered two days a week has grown to five days a week, helping more patients with dense breast tis-
sue access an additional breast screening option. Most importantly, ABUS is helping find breast cancers that may not be seen on a screening mammogram alone. At OSF Saint Elizabeth in Peru, multiple cancers measuring less than one centimeter have been detected with ABUS after not being identified on mammography alone. These findings highlight the potential benefit of having an additional screening tool. If you have dense breasts, talk with your primary care provider about whether ABUS screening is right for you. A simple conversation now can provide greater confidence and peace of mind later.

Putnam County Community Center Grant-Johnson Funeral Homes
Grant-Johnson Funeral Homes has provided funeral, cremation and cemetery services to families throughout rural Illinois for more than 15 years. With two locations and our own on-site crematory, we’re able to care for your family every step of the way, without sending any part of that care elsewhere. When you meet with us, our mission is to create a meaningful, affordable service for your loved one. We serve every family with dedication and compassion, guiding you through each step of planning a memorial or funeral service. Our values are simple: no detail is too small. The way he fixed his hair. The smell of her perfume. That kind of attention never wavers. Together, we’ll design a service that truly honors your loved one.
Each year from October 15-December 7, Medicare beneficiaries should review available Part D plans to ensure they have the best plan for their needs. or six decades, Putnam County Community Unit School District #535 has been more than a collection of school buildings. It has been a place where generations of students have learned, friendships have formed, traditions have grown, and communities have come together around a shared belief in the importance of education. As we celebrate the 60th anniversary of our consolidated school district, there is much to be proud of in our district. Putnam County is a special place, and that is reflected every day in the dedication of our administrators, teachers, support staff, families, school board, local businesses and community members who support our students. Our district continues to build on a strong tradition while creating new opportunities for today’s learners. From our preschool program, play-based kindergarten experience, and early intervention supports to outstanding extracurricular activities and work-based learning opportunities at Putnam County High School, we strive to meet students where they are and help them discover where they want to go. Sixty years of Putnam County Schools represents thousands of students, families, educators, and memories. While we proudly celebrate that history, we are equally excited about what comes next. Our mission remains simple and important: give every student the opportunity to learn, grow, thrive, and leave Putnam County prepared for a bright and meaningful future. Norberg Memorial Home Rooted in Community
For more than 120 years, Norberg Memorial Home & Monuments has been part of the Princeton community. Our history began in 1903 and continued through Arthur Norberg and later Bodie Smallwood, who joined the funeral home in 1955. Today, Bodie’s son, JD Smallwood, carries on that tradition alongside his wife, Janice, and Operations Manager Joey Rainford. For JD, serving Princeton is personal. He was born and raised here. This isn’t simply where he works — it’s home. After graduating from Worsham College of Mortuary Science, JD returned to Princeton to work alongside his father and eventually became owner of Norberg Memorial Home. But our connection to this community goes far beyond funeral service. We believe in giving back. Norberg’s proudly supports local organizations, programs, events and causes throughout Princeton and the surrounding communities. JD recently celebrated more than five years of sobriety, a personal journey that has deepened his appreciation for family, second chances and being there for others. Janice shares that giving spirit, serving as Treasurer on the Bureau County Historical Society Board, volunteering her time face painting at community events, and sharing sourdough goodies from her cottage bakery made with her beloved starter, Doughlene. Sometimes giving back is serving on a board; sometimes it’s supporting a local cause, painting a child’s face or simply giving someone a loaf of bread and a smile. At Norberg Memorial Home, we provide funeral and memorial services, prearrangements, cremations, monuments and headstones — but caring for people has never been limited to what happens inside our funeral home. Princeton is our home. These are our friends, our neighbors and our families. This community has supported us for generations, and we believe one of the best ways to say thank you is to keep giving back — with our time, our talents and our hearts. Norberg Memorial Home & Monuments — Rooted in community since 1903.

Congratulations to Al Cioni Ford on achieving the prestigious 2025 Ford President’s Award, on behalf of Ford Motor Company. Blood, sweat, and tears makes it an outstanding six years in a row, a total of thirteen times winning the Ford President’s Award, which is no easy task. The President’s Award is only presented to those top-performing Ford Dealerships that exhibit quality business practices and Ford’s core principles. Dealerships nationwide competed for this honor, but only 10% of all dealerships achieved the 2025 President’s Award. This honor signifies our Al Cioni Ford team’s exceptional performance and outstanding accomplishments that embrace these philosophies, achieving among the highest levels of customer satisfaction — in both sales and service in the automotive industry. Dealers must exceed fantastic customer expectations and experiences every day. The pursuit of excellence requires passion, tenacity, and hard work! Melissa Olivero M
elissa Olivero is the most qualified candidate for 13th Judicial Circuit Court Judge. She is fair, experienced, and connected to our community. Her life exemplifies a commitment to service. She is a U.S. Army veteran, having served eight years as a Military Police platoon leader, company commander, and battalion staff officer on active duty and in the reserves. Her service took her overseas during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm and later to Fort Lewis, Washington, and Chicago-area reserve units. Most recently, she served as a federal judge for the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), traveling across the country hearing complex unfair labor practice cases and deciding questions concerning union representation. She was merit-selected to this position, competing against thousands of applicants through written and verbal
testing. Her cases involved employee discipline and discharge, contract bargaining, threats, strikes, and lockouts. Melissa’s cases were appealed to and upheld by the United States Circuit Courts of Appeal, one step below the United States Supreme Court. Previously, she served as a judge for the Social Security Administration, hearing disability benefits cases. Melissa is a former LaSalle County Assistant State’s Attorney. She formed and led LaSalle County’s first domestic violence prosecution unit. She tried hundreds of cases before local juries and judges. Melissa also investigated and prosecuted cases for the NLRB, getting wrongfully terminated employees reinstatement to their former jobs and recovering hundreds of thousands of dollars in back pay. She has over 29 years of litigation experience in wideranging areas of the law, including criminal law, civil law, administrative law, and
municipal law. Melissa also handled appeals in both state and federal courts. Melissa served ten years on the Illinois Valley Community College Board of Trustees, including four years as Board Chair. She also serves our community as a member of the Peru Rotary Club, the Zonta Club of LaSalle-Peru Area, the American Legion, and as a Scoutmaster. She has been honored as the Northern Illinois University Alumni of the Year and received the prestigious Illinois State Bar Association Award for Civics Education. Melissa is a licensed substitute teacher for grades K-12. In 2025, she and her husband were chosen as LaSalle-Peru Township High School’s Super Fans of the year. Melissa is also active in numerous professional organizations, including the National Association of Women Judges, the Federal Administrative Law Judges Conference, the American Bar
Association, Illinois State Bar Association, and the LaSalle County Bar Association. In 2023, Melissa formed a mock trial team at LaSallePeru Township High School in response to a shortage of lawyers in our area. She coaches the team and even drives the school’s minibus to competitions. Melissa has previously coached baseball, basketball, bowling, golf, and scholastic bowl. Melissa received her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and her law degree magna cum laude from the Northern Illinois University College of Law. She and her husband, Attorney Doug Olivero, reside in Peru, Illinois, with their two sons. Melissa is truly fair, experienced, and connected to our community. She will continue to serve the citizens of Bureau, LaSalle, and Grundy Counties with integrity and dedication as their next Circuit Court Judge.
