4-H FAIR RESULTS

2

Letter from Extension County Director

R

esilient, flexible, and strong-willed are words that come to mind when I think of 4-H families, volunteers, and staff. Projects, programs, events, etc. do not always go as planned for a variety of reasons. So, the ability to adapt and persevere is a lesson that comes early to families, volunteers and staff. Then the unpredictable weather affects crops, flowers, vegetables, baking, rocket launches, and of course, the fair itself. Heat, humidity, and strong thunderstorms are not uncommon to deal with during 4-H show season. Everyone does their best in each situation and learns a lesson at the same time. I hope you were able to visit a 4-H show this season to see the hard work of the 4-H members, the volunteers and staff. While the shows are the culmination of the 4-H year, 4-H is year-round. There are many Special Interest (SPIN) clubs, afterschool programs, and standalone programming that goes on throughout the year. 4-H also works with our Master Gardener/Master Naturalist and Food and Nutrition programming. Cross programming allows us to reach more people and provide awareness of the variety of programming Extension can provide. Please encourage a young person to join a local 4-H club. Participation can begin as early as 5 years old as a Cloverbud or a community club member at 8 years old. Contact your local extension office if you are unsure of the clubs available in your area. Enrollment is open throughout the year, so any time is a good time to join 4-H!

We appreciate our local donors who make our programs a reality. All donations stay in the county it is designated for. We use donations for program supplies, 4-H trophies, SPecial INterest (SPIN) programs, STEM activities, after school programs, and so much more for our youth. 4-H does not just happen at the fair. Our staff are involved in their counties all year. Local donations are also matched by the state, so your dollar goes farther! We could not have the 4-H fair without the help of many, many volunteers. Our volunteers donate their time, interests, and talents to 4-H each year. We thank all the 4-H families, 4-H Community Club leaders, SPIN Club leaders, 4-H Project Superintendents, 4-H Fair judges, Home and Community Education Association members, fair boards, foundations, and everyone else who works with us to support our local youth throughout the year. Please contact us if you are interested in volunteering. Thank you to everyone who made the 2026 4-H Fairs a success! A special thank you to all the Extension staff who work very hard to make the fairs successful In kindness, Erin Orwig University of Illinois Extension Extension County Director

2026 La Salle Country State Fair Delegates and Alternates The La Salle County 4-H Show and Junior Fair was held July 9-12. The county 4-H exhibition show is an exciting time for 4-H members. It is an opportunity to display to the public the hard work, time and skills they have put into their exhibits. It is also an opportunity for young people to show animals they have been tasked with the responsibility of purchasing or raising and caring for, to be shown at the livestock shows. 4-H exhibition shows are important because they celebrate 4-H members’ achievements, talents and provide opportunities for youth to develop life skills, responsibility and decision making in addition to making memories. An important aspect of the fair is judging. 4-H projects are judged on their quality of workmanship. Although competition is an important part of the fair, the real benefit for 4-H members lies in competing to better their own skills. It’s exciting for 4-H members to win ribbons and trophies, with goals to advance to the state fair exhibition show. The success of a great 4-H show is dependent upon the culmination of

an endless amount of volunteers. We are grateful to our superintendents, judges, club leaders, families and the many other volunteers who help in putting together such a fabulous 4-H exhibition show. Congratulations to all our exhibitors who have shown in the 4-H show. We are proud of your accomplishments and commitment to learning.

2026 Marshall-Putnam County State Fair Delegates and Alternates Announced The 2026 Marshall-Putnam County 4-H Show concluded with another successful year, providing 4-H members the opportunity to showcase their knowledge, skills, and accomplishments across more than 200 project areas. Youth from throughout Marshall and Putnam counties gathered at the Marshall-Putnam Fairgrounds to exhibit projects they have worked on throughout the year, with many earning the opportunity to advance to the Illinois State Fair in Springfield this August. The Marshall-Putnam 4-H Show is the culmination of a year of learning, leadership, and hands-on experiences. From agriculture and animal science to visual arts, photography, clothing, food, STEM, and communications, members demonstrated the wide variety of skills they have developed through their 4-H projects. The success of the 4-H Show would not be possible without the dedication of countless volunteers, superintendents, judges, committee members, donors, sponsors, and families who generously gave their time and talents. Their commitment helps create a positive and rewarding experience for every 4-H member. Congratulations to all of the youth who participated in the 2026 MarshallPutnam County 4-H Show. Your hard work, dedication, and willingness to learn are commendable. We wish the best of luck to those selected to represent Marshall-Putnam County at the Illinois State Fair. Below is a list of the trophy winners and the State Fair Delegates.
