Officers cleared in local shooting State’s attorney: Man who was shot fired rifle at police By JOHN ETHEREDGE jetheredge@shawmedia.com
Demolition begins on old Oswego government building Demolition of the old Oswego Village Hall at 113 Main St. started early Tuesday morning. Within a few hours, contractors for the village had taken down a large section of the single-story building, which had stood since 1921. The building, which at various times had housed the Oswego Volunteer Fire Department and village police department, had stood vacant since the completion of the new village hall at 100 Parkers Mill in 2008. Weis based his conclusions on a review of the incident which resulted in police shooting and wounding Taylor J. Cano, a resident of Ashlawn Avenue. In making his determination, Weis noted he examined the events and circumstances that led to Cano’s shooting in the early morning hours of Aug. 29. Weis said he reviewed all of the police reports, witness statements, evidence recovered at the scene, incident photos and statements made by Cano to village and state police. In addition, he said he watched and listened to video and audio recordings of the incident, including radio traffic and 911 telephone calls. Weis said that prior to the incident Cano had several conversations with KenCom (911) dispatchers concerning his intent to commit harm against other individuals that day. Cano also told dispatchers he was armed and would harm those who would come to help him. Upon arrival on Ashlawn Avenue, the two police officers, Chad Dickey
