By NATHAN LURZ nlurz@shawmedia.com The College of DuPage could be on its way to a “Clean Slate,” but the cleaning may not come too easy if the new Board of Trustees’ second meeting April 30 is any example. The board includes three new faces after the April election – Deanne Marie Mazzochi, Frank Napolitano and Charles Bernstein – united under a shared platform of reform and behind newly selected Chairwoman Kathy Hamilton. With the majority of the seven-member board on lock, the four pushed through an aggressive special meeting agenda the three remaining trustees consistently voted against, citing a lack of transparency and inclusion in its drafting.

Breuder out Early in the meeting, the board addressed one of the biggest elephants in the room: President Robert Breuder. The controversial leader has been in the limelight for months, first for a leaked email in July 2014 that advised trustees to find “politically attractive” ways to spend $20 million in

state funding promised to the school. His tenure was later punctuated by the board’s approval of a nearly $763,000 buyout for his early retirement in March 2016 and several DuPage County and federal subpoenas looking into his on-campus spending and that of trustees and administrators under his watch. Breuder beat the board to his proposed ouster, announcing April 28 he would be taking medical leave, but trustees still put him on administrative leave with pay during the meeting. New college attorney Tim Elliott, who also serves as a Glen Ellyn village trustee and has been involved in cases against the college twice in the past year, said the move gave the board control over the timing of Breuder’s return. College trustee Joseph Wozniak said he was voting down the measure not just in protest of lack of transparency, but also because he was “not going to kick a man when he’s down.” The passage of the vote, which included installing Executive Vice President Joseph Collins as acting interim president, was met with applause from the public.

Audits and legal action The board also moved on several looming issues regarding legislation and legal action against the school April 30. After months of foot-dragging, trustees authorized a state-run audit of the school’s finances from 2009 to 2014 by the Illinois Auditor General’s Office. Earlier this year, several members of the General Assembly asked for the audit, including state Rep. Jeanne Ives, R-Wheaton. Ives originally gave the college a March 12 deadline to accept terms for an audit dating to 2011 and agree to pay for the estimated $144,000 to $234,000 project. The board also authorized an internal investigation into the college’s accounts April 30, directed staff to provide the board and college’s client files from several law firms, and formalized a litigation hold in light of the federal investigations against the school. Additionally, it hired new temporary legal counsel – Elliott’s Rathje & Woodward and Schuyler, Roche & Crisham – for the board. Both were retained to guide the board during the next four months, although the three old guard trustees questioned the lat-

ter’s hire, as one of its attorneys, Dan Kinsella, represented Hamilton after the board censured her last year.

Suspended accounts The board has previously received criticism about lavish spending accounts held by Breuder and trustees, including several thousand dollars spent at campus restaurant Waterleaf, but it moved April 30 to suspend all travel and entertainment reimbursements for trustees, as well as all “house” accounts on or off campus. When several trustees voiced concern, particularly student trustee Gloria Roark, Hamilton said the board would evaluate each case individually and that it represented a stop until the board looked over its policies. The board also hired a transition team led by Donald Haider, professor of strategy at the Kellogg School of Management. The team will guide new board members and possibly interim administrative leadership through the legal action against the college and recommend ways to improve operations and governance. Hamilton said she was already looking at filling it with volunteer local stakeholders from across the district.

• QUEEN Continued from page 3

Cutest Pet

Alex was one of five girls out of 24 applicants who were chosen to be on this year’s court, and she was selected to be queen among the five girls. The princesses are picked based on school and community involvement, academics, and volunteer work, said Nancy Spartz, a member of the Junior Women’s Club. All of the girls make several appearances at Lilac Time events, and each receives a $1,000 college scholarship. Alex will attend Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich., this fall. She hopes to pursue a career in occupational therapy, and she said she wants to work with children with special needs. “It’s something I’m really passionate about,” she said. “I like being able to help others, and I have a heart for little kids.” Alex said she’s gotten to do a lot of volunteer work with kids with special needs through her involvement in Spotlight Youth Theatre. She’s volunteered at the organization’s summer camps and worked as an aide for their theater classes for young children. Alex has been involved with theater groups since she was a child, and she is involved with other school and community groups as well. At Glenbard East, she is part of French Club and National Honor Society, as well as English, math and foreign language honor societies. Alex also is involved with her church by helping to teach Sunday school and participating in the high school youth group. She was inspired to apply to be on the Lilac Court because her sister was a princess in 2006. After seeing her sister participate in Lilac Time activities and spend time with kids as a princess, Alex thought it looked fun and like something she’d like to do. “I loved being at the Little Lady Lilac Ball because I got to dance with a lot of little girls,” she said of the event that took place May 1. “A lot of them think we’re real Disney Princesses, and they get shy like they’re meeting Jasmine or Ariel at Disney World. It’s so cute.” Kathy Lyons, Alex’s mom, said she couldn’t be prouder of her daughter. She said being on the court helps the girls learn more about their hometown and gives them more opportunities to volunteer and become involved with their community. “It’s such an honor and I watched her work so hard, and now other people are seeing her success as well,” Kathy said. She said the family is throwing a “big party” after the Lilac Parade to celebrate Alex’s achievement.

Track meet for those with disabilities draws smiles from attendees

OUR VIEW

Some sour notes mar good moves by new COD board If you were hoping the new majority on the College of DuPage Board of Trustees would hit the ground running at their first meeting, starting the process of repudiating all the controversial decisions we’ve seen out of the school in the past year, then you were likely thrilled with what you saw at the April 30 meeting. If you felt, though, the winners from the April 7 election should allow the outgoing board members to recede into obscurity with at least a little bit of dignity, well, that didn’t happen. Some strife is inevitable. The three holdovers from the previous board lineup who represent the former majority aren’t likely to support the four members, led by new Chairwoman Kathy Hamilton, in many of their efforts to roll back all of those bad decisions. There are going to be a lot of 4-3 votes, as there were April 30. Putting its stamp on President Robert Breuder’s medical leave by voting to put him on administrative leave – good. Now he can’t declare his medical leave ended and go back to work at any time he pleases. Moving forward with a state-run audit of the college’s finances – also good. We need clarity on whether the college has been a good steward of tax dollars and students’ tuition. Hiring temporary legal counsel for the board that had previously represented Hamilton – an eyebrow raiser for sure. What was decidedly not good was the political theater around the awarding of “certificates of appreciation” for outgoing board members Kim Savage and Nancy Svoboda. New Vice Chairwoman Deanne Marie

Mazzochi, part of the “Clean Slate” of candidates that bested Savage and Svoboda at the polls, questioned whether passing the resolutions of appreciation was legally binding and could have an impact on ongoing investigations of the school. To an observer, this line of questioning seems like a mean-spirited dig rather than a sincere concern. Apparently it wasn’t sufficient to have defeated Savage and Svoboda at the polls, to have been given a mandate from voters that sweeping change was needed on the board. Instead of being a gracious victor and moving on to clean up the mess made by previous leaders, we have an overt attempt to humiliate those who were defeated. It’s no surprise that Savage and Svoboda chose to leave before the official vote on the certificates. Kim Savage and Nancy Svoboda took part in votes that were openly derided on this very opinion page, and were part of a former board that generally left the entire Chicago region scratching its collective heads trying to understand what was going on in Glen Ellyn. But surely there’s no harm in taking a moment to recognize their service, letting them have a moment of acknowledgment as their time as public servants came to a close. If the ongoing investigations point fingers in their direction, so be it. That’s another matter for another day. Being right on many, or even most, of the issues doesn’t give the new board majority carte blanche to treat the new minority, or anyone else, in a disrespectful fashion. There’s a lot to fix, but showing some decorum in the process would go a long way toward healing the wounds on campus, too.

Northeast Dupage Special Recreation Association will be hosting their annual track meet on May 16 for individuals with disabilities. This will be my fourth year attending, and I can tell you that the day is a very special one. Volunteers, many from Glenbard East High School, where the meet is hosted, show up to be a “buddy” to the athletes, offering encourCOMMUNITY agement and compassion. VOICE Many other volunteers, such Bruce as family members, local Flowers politicians and Park District employees, also have been coming for years. It is a warm, inviting event for all, and I would almost call it a love fest because you will experience many acts of kindness and graciousness if you attend. The athletes start in the school’s gym and then parade to the track, just as it’s done in other competitive games such as the World Games or the Olympics. The Knights of Columbus, in full uniform, lead the athletes and volunteers onto the track. Ceremony dictates that a smaller torch is toured around the infield until it reaches a cauldron, then a large flame is lit to burn for the duration of the event. This year local area resident Toma Dobrosavljevic, Season 16 winner of NBC’s “The Biggest Loser,” will be the master of ceremony. Also, Rick Poole, NEDSRA’s new executive director will be in attendance. Rick is finishing up his work duties as Lombard Park District’s deputy director before he officially moves over to NEDSRA on May 11. Events for the athletes will be various running and wheelchair races, long jumping and a softball throw. Olympic-style medals will be handed out, which become precious keepsakes for many of the athletes. For family members and friends, there will be concessions, entertainment and carnival games to keep them busy between events. The meet starts at 8 a.m. and runs until about 2:30 p.m., when the last softballer chucks his winning throw. If you would like to volunteer or donate merchandise or food, please call Beth Corso, senior recreation coordinator at NEDSRA, at 630-620-4500. Beth has organized the track meet for many years. She puts a lot of heart and effort into planning this event to create a great experience for her special friends. To volunteer online, visit nedsra.org and click on the NEDSRA Track Meet banner. In my opinion, it is the greatest humanity show on earth.

This message is in regard to the woman who just wants to look at animals that are available for adoption. It’s not a zoo. If she wants to look at the animals, she can look on a website or go to the zoo. But, then again, she’d have to pay to get into the zoo. This is in response to the woman who is telling people to stop volunteering for adoption rescue animals. My rescue is not a brick-andmortar rescue. We count on the kindness of foster homes and our veterinary offices. Many brick-and-mortar rescues have paid staff and some volunteers. If you want to look, so be it, at the dogs in their kennels. The majority of breed rescue dogs are not in these facilities; they are individual rescues, breed specific. So, please, do not tell us to stop volunteering, or else where would these dogs go?

DERMATOLOGY UPDATE Presented by

Todd T. Davis, M.D. Board Certified Dermatologist

SKIN ISSUES RELATED TO RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS While most people normally associate rheumatoid arthritis (RA) with joint inflammation and pain, this chronic inflammatory disorder may also lead to issues that involve the skin. For instance, about half of RA sufferers develop rheumatoid nodules, which are lumps that develop over the skin and under bony areas (i.e., fingers and elbows). While these nodules sometimes disappear without treatment, a class of drugs called disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs) used to treat RA can help eliminate them as well. In addition, RA may also cause a condition called “vasculitis”, which is inflammation of the blood vessels that feed the skin. Vasculitis can produce red spots and, in extreme cases, ulcers in the legs and under the fingernails, requiring

Rauner talks economic development By F. AMANDA TUGADE

Know more

atugade@shawmedia.com Gov. Bruce Rauner stopped by Oakbrook Terrace on Tuesday to discuss his plans to boost Illinois’ economy. Rauner was the keynote speaker at the annual DuPage County Regional Business Outlook, a one-stop shop for officials and business owners to learn about the economy from local, state and global perspectives. The outlook was hosted by Ice Miller LLP, Mesirow Financial and Choose DuPage, an agency dedicated to attracting new businesses to the county. “We want to make DuPage County the place to be,” said guest speaker County Board Chairman Dan Cronin, who kicked off the event at the Drury Lane Conference Center. Cronin said within the past year, companies from various service industries have invested at least $600 million in building their businesses in DuPage, ultimately creating 1,600 new jobs for residents. He added he, along with Choose DuPage, will continue to work hard and maintain momentum as they learn

About 60 people lined the entrance to the conference center before the event, holding signs that read “Save the Middle Class” and calling themselves “the people of the working families.” The spokesman of the group said their presence was not aimed at Rauner. Instead, they hoped to serve as a reminder that changes in the economy affect middle class workers, who are the economy’s backbone, and their living wages and benefits are important issues, he said. A common criticism Rauner said he has heard is that companies are moving out of Illinois to competing states like Iowa, Wisconsin and Indiana because of Illinois’ high property and corporate taxes. He said he is working on reforming the state’s tax code to make it competitive with other states and to attract businesses to invest in Illinois. “We cannot tax away our problems. We have to work our way through the problems,” Rauner said, adding he is focused on improving the economy across the state, from Chicago to downstate Illinois.

the first period, this time courtesy of Chalupny, who flew down the left and saw her low firsttime cross rifled just wide by Press. After an uneventful finish to the opening period, Chicago came out of the break with renewed urgency, and the persistence finally paid off in the 54th minute. Having hit teammate Julie Johnston in the face on her initial blast from just inside the box, Colaprico did everything right on the rebound, smashing a left-footed rocket past the outstretched arms of Cameron to make it 1-0. The crowd at Benedictine University subsequently had to wait until 15 minutes from full time for another quality opportunity, Chicago’s Chalupny exploding into the box on the left and rifling a laser beam on target that was guided over the bar by the fingertips of Cameron. Red Stars goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc made her best stop of the match in the 86th minute, leaving her feet and diving to her right to deny Hayley Haagsma’s dangerous header off an in-swinging free-kick from the wing. Cara Walls nearly sealed the deal for the hosts in stoppage time, as she found herself one-on-one with netminder Cameron, who pounced on a lapse in concentration to defuse the threat. It would be the day’s final close look, as the home side earned its second win of 2015. The Chicago Red Stars look to earn three more points when they take on Boston Breakers this coming Saturday in a doubleheader with MLS outfit Chicago Fire at Toyota Park in Bridgeview. Chicago, Illinois – – The National Women’s Soccer League’s (NWSL) Chicago Red Stars dominated and stayed unbeaten in their third match of the 2015 campaign on Saturday, defeating Sky Blue FC 1-0 behind rookie midfielder Danielle Colaprico’s first tally of her professional career. While the visitors from New Jersey were without all of their World-Cupbound players, the home match served as the Send-Off event for five of the eight Chicago stars who will be competing in this summer’s tournament in Canada. The Red Stars put pressure on their opponents early and created the first close look in the 5th minute, as defender Taryn Hemmings sprinted up the right wing and sent a dangerous ball to the far post. Teammate Vanessa DiBernardo was unfortunate to see her header from a tight angle sail just over the frame. A mere four minutes later, the hosts’ aggressive approach nearly paid off, DiBernardo coming close to stripping goalkeeper Brittany Cameron of the ball for what would have been a certain tally. Chicago had its next quality chance moments later. Former Virginia standout Colaprico sent Lori Chalupny down the left and the 31-year-old’s centering pass seemed destined to be tapped home at the doorstep. Instead, it evaded both defenders and attackers, trickling just wide of the far post. Red Stars striker Christen Press, who came into the game as the newly crowned NWSL Player of the Month for April, had two opportunities to open the scoring in the 18th minute. After her left-footed attempt from 20 yards out forced a diving save, Press got back on the ball and fired just high from inside the penalty area. She caused havoc once again halfway through

Rachel Krusenoski Scholarship recipient

“Events like this bring our community together. We are able to recognize the good and share that with the community,” Buchanan said. “Basically it’s kind of pay it forward.” The selection process for the awards started in September and continued through March. Suburban Life newspapers routinely published profiles of five to eight students nominated by teachers, counselors and other leaders. A selection committee including representatives from Suburban Life Media and DuPage Credit Union then graded each student based on academic achievement, community involvement and extracurricular participation to determine who would win the coveted scholarships. The two winners, both nominated

by their counselors, were shocked after seeing the amount of qualified nominees. Krusenoski – who has a 4.5 GPA and is involved in the school newspaper, as well as varsity cross country and track – believes it was her ability to focus only on activities she could put her heart into that helped elevate her to attain the scholarship. “Everything I try to pursue in these last four years is something I pursued with passion,” Krusenoski said. “In doing so, I was able to put in a lot of effort and a lot of heart into what I was doing.” Matysik – who has an ACT score of 35, is on the baseball team and is involved with Peer Leaders and National Honor Society– was initially unsure what made him stand out, but attri-

butes his success to participating in a wide variety of activities. “I don’t really know,” he said. “I mean I try to focus on being well-rounded, whether it be school athletics, academics, like different clubs and stuff, community service.” Krusenoski plans to major in journalism at the University of Southern California and Matysik will study biochemistry at the University of Notre Dame. Suburban Life Media General Manager Laura Burke said she looks forward to continuing to honor young achievers through Suburban Life Scholars. Burke said in the future she would like to see a keynote speaker at the reception. “We want this to grow,” she said.

The western suburbs’ best and brightest were recognized recently by Suburban Life Media. Two area high school students received merit-based college scholarships at an awards reception April 30 at Seven Bridges Golf Club in Woodridge. Suburban Life partnered with DuPage Credit Union to award $2,000 scholarships to Downers Grove North High School senior Rachel Krusenoski and Downers Grove South High School senior Thomas Matysik. The winners were chosen based on academic performance, character and commitment to volunteer work and extracurricular activities and beat out 48 other students who were given certificates of recognition as Suburban Life Scholars. Other Suburban Life Scholars included Joshua Beausoleil, Abby Pakeltis and Tyler Rusnak from Willowbrook High School in Villa Park. Event organizer Kelly Buchanan saw the reception as an opportunity to celebrate the community.

“Everything I try to pursue in these last four years is something I pursued with passion. In doing so I was able to put in a lot of effort and a lot of heart into what I was doing.”

Real Estate News Homeowners Voice a Shifting Sense of Home Value in New Study

Respondents in Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices’ Inaugural Homeowner Survey finds that home value goes beyond price, location in new age of real estate CHICAGO, IL – May 1, 2015 – Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices and Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices KoenigRubloff Realty Group today released results of its first quarterly Homeowner Sentiment Survey showing that people’s perception of home value runs much deeper than standard measures of price and location. Today’s property owners and prospective homebuyers define value in broader terms of personal confidence in their housing investment and how a property will meet their needs now and in the future. Owners place value in a home’s intrinsic qualities of wealth building, safety and satisfaction. “People want homes for all the right reasons, starting with a place to make memories, build

strong futures and make their dreams a reality,” said Nancy Nagy, CEO of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices KoenigRubloff Realty Group. Michael Pierson, president of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices KoenigRubloff Realty Group, added, “The facts that come to light from Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices conducting forward-thinking research studies like this one help our agents better understand their clients. That understanding is an integral part of providing exceptional service.” As housing markets across America continue their steady recovery and with home equity rising for many, homeowners have increasing options. vinaigrette. Grilled asparagus and pearl couscous were perfect complements. I am not normally a fan of fish (or asparagus, for that matter), but even I was impressed with the dish and the way it was presented. I set aside my desire for the bacon-and-blue-cheese-infused hamburger with truffled mayo and sampled the Cuban sandwich. The fresh ground mustard worked well with sweet pickles and the smokiness of the pork, all encased in a perfectly toasted Cuban roll, akin to French bread. For dessert, we tried the salted caramel cheesecake. It looked so much like ice cream we thought it would be cold, but it was light, fluffy and sweet with the right amount of salted caramel flavor on top of a toasty graham cracker crust. As chef Irvine noted on “Restaurant Impossible,” the food at Zest has always been

DOWNERS GROVE – A star turn on the Food Network show “Restaurant Impossible” spotlighted Lemon Tree Grocer in Downers Grove and the Zest Bistro located within, where the food has always been center stage. Celebrity chef Robert Irvine, host of the television program, said it was one of just a few times in years of filming the show that he actually enjoyed the food served at the outset. That’s high praise from a well-regarded chef who never hesitates to call it like he sees it. That there was nothing wrong with the menu in the first place was confirmed when my date and I recently paid a visit to Zest. Though we were both hungry, we asked our waiter to give us more time to peruse the choices, because every item sounded delectable. Before picking entrees, we decided to appease our appetites by ordering the short rib nachos appetizer. Thick and crunchy tortilla chips were the foundation for a great blend of flavors that ranged from the sweetness of the beef to the tang of Cotija cheese sauce and lime horseradish crema, with a hint of spiciness from fresh green chilies. We paired our appetizer with beverages. My date picked a beer from an impressive list of offerings by independent breweries, while I chose the Dark and Stormy Mule served in a copper mug. The rum-based drink did a dance on my taste buds with simple syrup and ginger beer leading the tango. Irvine’s signature pot roast, introduced to the menu after his recent visit to Downers Grove, must be a fan favorite, as Zest had just served the last of a roast made a bit earlier in the day and was in the process of cooking a second. My companion was slightly disappointed not to be able to try the dish, but that changed when her salmon entree arrived. The perfectly cooked fillet was coated in a honey mustard glaze and served with a sweet and savory orange mustard

LOMBARD – Despite fielding seven regional champions and two state qualifiers since 2005, Glenbard East’s boys volleyball team had won only one conference title during that stretch. That mostly speaks to the strength of the DuPage Valley Conference in boys volleyball. Now that the Rams are in the Upstate Eight Valley, East is hoping to rack up conference titles more frequently. Tuesday night’s 25-15, 25-19 win against South Elgin locked up an undefeated 6-0 season in the conference for the Rams. It was East’s first boys volleyball conference title since winning the DVC in 2008. “I’m happy to come in this new conference this year and make a statement,” senior middle hitter Adam Eboli said. “It was a good win for the team.” Nick Symonds had nine kills and Tyler Greene had seven to lead the Rams’ attack. Symonds missed a chunk of matches in late April, but has rejoined the lineup comfortably. Symonds isn’t the only Ram to miss time this season. Greene was out for a stretch early in the season and setter Andrew Hurlburt just came back after missing some time because of illness. “I don’t think we’ve had a Bill Ackerman - backerman@shawmedia.com Glenbard East’s Adam Eboli winds up for a swing on a set from Andrew Hurlburt on Tuesday in a match full roster all year,” Eboli said. “Nick had a big step up [Tuesagainst South Elgin. day]. We’re glad to have him back. He’s a big contributor to the team. ... We’re getting all the pieces back together. Andrew was sick the past couple days. He just came back so we’re hoping to keep rolling.” Despite entering Thursday’s clash against St. Charles North with a 22-3 record, East coach Marci Maier is still looking for more sharpness from her group. Perhaps the lack of a full lineup on a consistent basis is a reason. “We played well enough to win,” Maier said after the South Elgin match. “We’re happy that we won a conference championship, but I’m not happy with our performance.” St. Charles North is currently 5-0 in the River division of the UEC with just a match at Elgin on May 12 left to seal up its outright conference title. If the North Stars do so they will host the Rams in a crossover championship match May 19. After that East will shift its focus towards the postseason. The Rams will host a regional and will be in search of the program’s first regional title since 2012. “Our next goal is regionals,” Eboli said. “We got it at our home court this year, which is big. The last time we had it at our home court was my sophomore year and we got knocked out in the first round so I would love to redeem ourselves and come away with a regional championship.”

Balanced lineup powers Montini softball By DAN SANTAROMITA dsantaromita@shawmedia.com GLENVIEW – No team wants to rely on power, but Montini softball certainly has plenty of it. Alyssa Sclafani and Emily Lezcano had two home runs each in the Broncos’ 8-0 win at Loyola on Wednesday. Sclafani and freshman Nikki Cuchran have seven home runs a piece this spring. “It’s always exciting [to hit a home run],” Sclafani said. “I just try to hit the ball hard.” The Broncos are now 21-3 and have won 10 games in a row, but the long ball isn’t the only way they’ve won. “We feel that our lineup is very balanced,” coach Mike Bukovsky said. “We feel we can play small ball. Those

are the things that we’re trying to work on. We need to be multi-dimensional and that’s what I think we’re really trying to work on this year.” On the pitching side, Lauren Trojnar fired the team’s ninth shutout of the season Wednesday. She struck out four and held the Ramblers without an extra base hit. Much of last year’s sectional-winning team is back for the Broncos and they’ve played like it. However, a change is that Bukovsky is in his first year as head coach after being an assistant. Instead of focusing on longterm goals, Bukovsky is more concerned with doing things the right way and letting the results work themselves out. “We said at the beginning of the year that we’re also look-

ing at the process,” Bukovsky said. “We’re trying to become a better team in a lot of areas by the end of the year. We’re doing that, we’re seeing improvement.” Coming up soon is a big game against St. Francis on Monday. The Broncos split with the Spartans in two regular season meetings already and this third and final meeting likely will decide the conference title in the final year before Montini moves to the Girls Catholic Athletic Conference. As far as postseason goals, there’s only one the Broncos have in mind. “Nothing is going to stop us as long as we play as a team and we keep going the way we’re going,” Lezcano said. “I firmly believe that.”

Montini’s Lauren Trojnar delivers a pitch May 1 in a game against Glenbard South. Trojnar pitched a shutout and the Broncos hit four home runs Wednesday in a win against Loyola. Mark Busch - mbusch@ shawmedia.com

Plenty of goals for Glenbard East soccer in pair of wins SUBURBAN LIFE MEDIA Jessica Whipple, Jordyn Fulton, Brittany Paganucci and Dana Plotke each scored for Glenbard East’s girls soccer team in a 4-0 win against Glenbard South on Monday.
