Scream queen Jenna Ortega (“Scream,” 2022) returns to her iconic TV role as “Wednesday” premieres the first half of its two-part second season on Netflix. Beginning with four episodes dropping Wednesday, Aug. 6, Season 2 snaps right back to it with four more episodes less than a month later, on Sept. 3. Catherine Zeta-Jones (“Chicago,” 2002), Luis Guzmán (“Traffic,” 2000) and Isaac Ordonez (“A Wrinkle in Time,” 2018) also return. Your Weekly Guide to TV Entertainment August 3 - 9, 2025
Jenna Ortega stars in “Wednesday”

or any viewers who fancy themselves as crazy, kooky, mysterious or spooky, Netflix has good news: Wednesday, the Addams family’s prodigal daughter, returns to the streamer with more action and deadpan humor than ever before. Premiering the first of its two parts Wednesday (of course), Aug. 6, on the streamer, “Wesdesday” Season 2 snaps right back to it with a second part less than a month later, on Sept. 3.
Returning to her most iconic television role, Jenna Ortega (“Scream,” 2022) stars as moody teen psychic Wednesday Addams, who is ready — and shockingly willing — to return to Nevermore Academy after her Season 1 encounters with a monstrous Hyde (Daniel Himschoot, “Mad Max: Fury Road,” 2015), a sinister secret society and, worst of all, several excessively chipper teenagers. And while Wednesday’s fellow students are even more aggressively interested in her following her heroism in saving their schoolmates from certain death, not everyone is happy to see the braid-clad school savior back in the hallowed halls of Nevermore. (Beware: Season 1 spoilers lie ahead.)
“We ended Season 1 with a stalker that was still after me,” Ortega told Tudum during promotional interviews ahead of Season 2. “Tyler [Hunter Doohan, “Your Honor”] has been sent to a psych ward, and half the school is burnt down.”
Then, in true, straightforward Wednesday fashion, Ortega added simply: “We start off Season 2 with Wednesday being kidnapped.”
But it’s not all about Wednesday this season, despite the name of the show. As happens to many older sisters at some point in their lives, Wednesday’s younger sibling, her electrokinetically charged brother, Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez, “A Wrinkle in Time,” 2018), joins her at Nevermore, thus dragging the entire Addams family further into her social circle — something the moribund youth wanted very little to do with in the first place.
“This year, we bring the family to Nevermore,” director and executive producer Tim Burton (“Edward Scissorhands,” 1990) explains in a featurette posted on the Tudum site. “Your family at school is the worst thing possible, isn’t it?”
Tudum writers Stephan Lee and Ariana Romero report that in addition to Pugsley now studying and learning to control his own powers on campus, the siblings’ parents, Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones, “Chicago,” 2002) and Gomez Addams (Luis Guzmán, “Traffic,” 2000), “have reasons to be on campus much more often” than they did in the first season. Using this screen time to home in on the intricacies of mother-daughter relationships and the dissemination of genera-

tional trauma, co-showrunner and executive producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (both of “Smallville” and “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” 2024) note that Season 2 of “Wednesday” is poised to be much darker in tone than the first.
“This season, Wednesday’s journey is darker and more complex as she navigates family, friends, new mysteries and old adversaries, propelling her headlong into another year at Nevermore,” the pair wrote in a joint statement to Netflix.
“Nothing is what it seems in Season 2,” Millar continued, adding that “Wednesday goes into this season thinking she knows Nevermore. ... But as soon as she gets back, nothing happens that she’s expecting. She thinks she’s going to be in control, that she knows where all the bodies are buried, and she doesn’t.”
Also joining Morticia and Gomez for the occasional school drop-in are Morticia’s mother, Hester Frump (a.k.a. Grandmama), played for the first time by glam icon Joanna Lumley (“Absolutely Fabulous”), and the kids’ enchantingly bizarre Uncle Fester, played once again by “Saturday Night Live” and “Portlandia” comedian Fred Armisen.
Other returning actors include Doohan as Tyler Galpin; Emma Myers (“A Good Girl’s Guide to
Murder”) as Enid Sinclair; Joy Sunday (“Rise,” 2023) as Bianca Barclay; Georgie Farmer (“Evermoor”) as Ajax Petropolus; Moosa Mostafa (“The Last Bus”) as Eugene Ottinger; Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo (“Devs”) as Sheriff Deputy Ritchie Santiago; and reportedly, Christina Ricci (“Yellowjackets”) as green-thumbed teacher Marilyn Thornhill. Victor Dorobantu, whose only listed acting credit on IMDb to date is “Wednesday,” also returns as disembodied — but still incredibly helpful — hand, Thing. What some fans are most excited for, however, is the addition of a much beloved figure from the music and horror communities alike.
Lady Gaga, known for hit songs including “Poker Face” and the recent chart-topper “Abracadabra” as well as her acting roles in “A Star Is Born” (2018) and several seasons of “American Horror Story,” joins “Wednesday” as Rosaline Rotwood, a teacher at Nevermore Academy. Although very little is known about her character, Entertainment Weekly reported that the superstar’s role would be limited to a guest role in the second half of the season, premiering Sept. 3. Gaga’s involvement reportedly followed Ortega’s 2023 Golden Globe comment that she would like to see the singer and actress as a sort of “Mother Monster” figure (per EW).
“I’m sure Netflix would love that,” Ortega told a Variety reporter of Gaga’s possible involvement. “I think Mrs. Thornhill [Ricci] and Wednesday had this weird mentor relationship or kind of understood each other in a certain way, so, if Lady Gaga were to be a part, I think it would have to be two monsters that understand each other.”
Season 2 of “Wednesday” also features Steve Buscemi (“Boardwalk Empire”), Billie Piper (“Kaos”), Evie Templeton (“Pinocchio,” 2022), Owen Painter (“Tiny Beautiful Things”), Noah B. Taylor (“Law & Order: Organized Crime”), Thandiwe Newton (“Westworld”) and Christopher Lloyd (“The Addams Family,” 1991), among others.
Don’t miss your chance to get “altogether ooky” with Ortega, Gaga and others when “Wednesday” Season 2 premieres Wednesday, Aug. 6. Part 2 will follow as of Sept. 3.

Return of the ‘King’
Beloved animated sitcom ‘King of the Hill’ reboot premieres
By Sarah Passingham TV Media
Arlen, Texas, is about to welcome back a couple of globe-trotting former residents. Animated sitcom “King of the Hill” returns Monday, Aug. 4, to Hulu. The show’s 14th season jumps years ahead of where the last season’s finale left off 15 years ago, with the Hills, Hank (Mike Judge, “Beavis and Butt-Head”) and Peggy (Kathy Najimy, “Hocus Pocus 2,” 2022), moving back to Arlen after years abroad working on their retirement fund. Since the Season 13 finale, Hank’s career in the propane and propane accessories business took himself and Peggy out of the country and halfway around the world to Saudi Arabia. Their son, Bobby (Pamela Adlon, “Better Things”), now in his twenties, also split from the small Texan town in which he grew up. Although he didn’t travel as far as his parents, he is living his dream as a chef in Dallas.
Now that the Hills are back in town — back in the same house, even — they realize that while some things remain the same, Arlen sure has changed since they last saw it. The alley behind the Hill house is still the spot for Hank and his three buddies to crack open an Alamo and catch up. Stephen Root (“Barry”) returns to voice Bill Dauterive, Hank’s neighbor and loyal, if not obsessive, friend. Boomhauer (also voiced by Judge), too, is back and incomprehensible as ever.
Johnny Hardwick, the Emmy-nominated writer, producer and original voice actor of Hank’s obtuse conspiracy theorist pal Dale Gribble, died in 2023, having already completed recording for six episodes of the upcoming reboot. Filling in as the voice of Dale for the rest of the season’s 10-episode run is Toby Huss (“Bookie”), an alum of the original series.
Also returning is Lauren Tom (“Goliath”), voicing both Minh Souphanousinphone and her daughter, Connie. Variety reported in June that Connie has a “prominent role in the new season.” Ronny Chieng (“The Daily Show”) joins the cast as the voice of Kahn Souphanousinphone (voiced in the original series by Huss), the Hill’s ambitious and self-centered Laotian American neighbor and husband to Minh.
“King of the Hill” co-creators Judge and Greg Daniels (“Upload”), who both recently received Emmy nominations for producing the Adult Swim animated series “Common Side Effects,” are back at the helm of the beloved slice-of-life series with new showrunner Saladin K. Patterson (“Shifting Gears”), eager to put Hank in a variety of mildly uncomfortable scenarios. “A lot has happened in the world since the original run of the show ended. There’s just a lot more for Hank to complain about,” Judge shared with Vulture in an interview in May.
Moving so far from Texas to Saudi Arabia, one would assume that Hank would have broadened his horizons, however, Daniels revealed in the same interview that is not the case in the reboot. “We liked the idea that he had been gone for a while, and the most Mayberry kind of freezer that you could put the family in was an Aramco base, which is like an idealized kind of white-picket-fence America,” Daniels explained. So returning to Arlen, Hank and Peggy are perturbed by the new pace of life and confronted with commonplace things like rating rideshare drivers, gender-neutral bathrooms and video meetings that they find new and objectionable. Even something as familiar to Hank as beer has changed, as he tells Bobby in the official trailer for the new season, “I’ve been drinking beer for 40 years, and I never wished once that it tasted more like fruit.”
Another voice cast member, Jonathan Joss (“Tulsa King”), passed away after production for the new season wrapped, his performance as John Redcorn already recorded. Joss was tragically killed, and following the news of his death in June, Judge, Daniels and Patterson released a statement, saying, “[Joss’] voice will be missed at ‘King of the Hill,’ and we extend our deepest sympathies to Jonathan’s friends and family.”
The original series earned critical acclaim and a cult following for the way the series remained grounded in the mundanity of life, depicting how strange and silly life can be without the extremes of other adult animated sitcoms. The “King of the Hill” reboot is a welcome addition to the wide landscape of animated sitcoms today, which largely borrow from the down-toearth storylines of the original series. Shows like Fox’s “The Great North” and HBO Max’s “Close Enough,” two recent examples, share the heartwarming DNA of “King of the Hill.”
Don’t miss the brand-new season of “King of the Hill,” dropping on Monday, Aug. 4 on Hulu. All 10 new episodes will be available to stream on premiere day.

How far would you go for an unforgettable meal? A&E’s newest series, “1,000 Ways to Dine,” sets out to answer that question and take viewers along for the journey when it premieres Sunday, Aug. 3, with four back-to-back episodes.
Hosted by actor and comedian Michael Yo — best known for his stand-up special “Snack Daddy” — “1,000 Ways to Dine” ventures far beyond the typical food show. According to A&E, the series “showcases the most exciting, unique and outrageously delicious restaurants in the world.”
Alongside Yo, viewers sneak through secret passageways to dine at a ninja-themed restaurant in Tokyo — where
guests are served by ninjas — and sip elegant high tea in a canopy over the treetops in Thailand. Each destination offers a full-sensory experience that goes far beyond food.
“1,000 Ways to Dine” explores the most extreme and unforgettable dining spots imaginable — some of which even pushed Yo out of his comfort zone.
“I didn’t want to go underwater, but some people would love it,” Yo told KCAL News. “And some [places], you have to take like three private jets to get to. It’s the most extravagant restaurants and odd restaurants in the world.”
It all circles back to the series’ central question: How far would you go, how high would you climb, how deep would you dig and how weird would you get to experience a one-of-a-kind meal? At each
location, Yo meets the chefs, creators and fearless foodies who are redefining what it means to dine out.
Reflecting on his adventures while filming, Yo said: “This show is crazy. It takes you to the most extravagant places to eat — like having dinner underwater in a bubble or hanging off the side of a cliff in Peru. So, we explore all these restaurants and it’s a lot of places.”

WHAT’S NEW ON PRIME VIDEO
“The Pickup” (2025)
Buckle in as “The Pickup” is one wild trip worth stealing a watch. Premiering Wednesday, Aug. 6, on Prime Video, this action comedy from director Tim Story (“Think Like A Man,” 2012) follows Russell (Eddie Murphy, “Shrek,” 2001) and Travis (Pete Davidson, “Bodies Bodies Bodies,” 2022), two truck drivers whose routine shift turns into a highstakes game of survival. Russell, a no-nonsense veteran just trying to get home for his anniversary, finds himself reluctantly partnered with Travis, a fast-talking rookie with more charm than common sense. What starts as a standard pickup spirals into chaos when they’re ambushed by ruthless criminals led by a savvy mastermind, Zoe (Keke Palmer, “Nope,” 2022), a cunning thief with a personal connection to Travis and a plan that goes far beyond a simple heist. With bullets flying, Russell and Travis have one very bad day that keeps on getting worse. Along for the action-packed ride are Eva Longoria (“Dora and the City of Lost Gold,” 2019), Marshawn Lynch (“The League”), Joe Anoa’i (“Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw,” 2019), Andrew Dice Clay (“A Star Is Born,” 2018) and Ismael Cruz Cordova (“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”). “The Pickup” is written by Kevin Burrows (“Gentleman Lobsters”) and Matt Mider (“Don’t”), with Murphy serving as an executive producer.

“Platonic” - Season 2
Two former best friends reconnect after a long rift. Returning with more laughs, chaos and emotional detours, Season 2 of “Platonic” premieres Wednesday, Aug. 6, on Apple TV+. After years apart, former best friends Sylvia (Rose Byrne, “Bridesmaids,” 2011) and Will (Seth Rogen, “This Is the End,” 2013) reconnected in Season 1, rekindling a friendship that’s anything but simple. Now, in Season 2, their friendship grows even more consuming, disrupting their routines and reshaping their relationships.
Sylvia, a lawyer-turned-mom-turned-party planner, is trying to juggle work, family life and her impulsive — and sometimes inconvenient — loyalty to Will. Meanwhile, Will, with his emotional baggage and career uncertainty, leans on Sylvia for support, proving that platonic bonds can be just as intense and messy as romantic ones. Season 2 also stars Luke Macfarlane (“Brothers & Sisters”) and Carla Gallo (“Neighbors,” 2014), with Aidy Bryant (“Saturday Night Live”), Kyle Mooney (“Zoolander 2,” 2016) and Beck Bennett (“Sing,” 2016) guest starring. “Platonic” was created by Francesca Delbanco (“Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” 2008) and Nicholas Stoller (“Friends From College”), with Byrne, Rogen and Delbanco returning as executive producers.

“The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder”Season 3
Get ready — the Proud family is louder and prouder than ever. Season 3 of “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder” makes its way to Disney+ on Wednesday, Aug. 6. A continuation of the beloved animated series, Season 3 follows 14-year-old Penny Proud (Kyla Pratt, “One on One”) as she navigates the ups and downs of life alongside her hilariously unpredictable family. Penny’s loyal crew — Dijonay (Karen Malina White, “Monsters”), LaCienega (Alisa Reyes, “All That”), Zoey (Soleil Moon Frye, “Sabrina, the Teenage Witch”) and Michael (EJ Johnson, “Rich Kids of Beverly Hills”) — are back for the ride. From writer and executive producer Ralph Farquhar (“Real Husbands of Hollywood”), episodes from Seasons 1 and 2, as well as the original “Proud Family” series, are currently streaming on Disney+.

With Ryan Reynolds (“Deadpool,” 2016) and Rob Mac (“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”) acting as the show’s executive producers and as on-screen talent, this next adventure follows film and television star Eva Longoria (“Desperate Housewives”) as she “sets out to reignite the soul of one of Mexico’s oldest and most storied football clubs, Club Necaxa,” per the series’ logline. Working alongside players in Aguascalientes, Mexico, Longoria hopes to breathe life back into one of the country’s top teams after a series of rough seasons. Alongside Reynolds, Mac (formerly McElhenney) and investors Al Tylis and Sam Porter, she hopes to share the talents of this

With a life-changing $50,000 prize on the line, these chefson-wheels are prepared to do whatever it takes to stay in the game, facing torrential downpours, unexpected eliminations and merciless judges on their way to the finish line. Here We Go Again,” 2018) form a bond amidst the horrors of World War I, only to be thrust through time by the mysterious stones of Craigh na Dun, landing them in a past that will alter the course of history. As Julia and Henry’s arrival collides with Ellen and Brian’s timeline, both couples are forced to confront the limits of love, loyalty and fate. Directed by Jamie Payne (“The Hour”), “Outlander: Blood of My Blood” is based on the novel by Diana Gabaldon (“Outlander”). Maril Davis (“For All Mankind”) executive produces.

Q: We’re big fans of “Mister Ed” and always enjoyed watching his show. We especially liked the interactions of Wilbur and Ed with their neighbor, Addison. Is there any chance of reruns being brought back?
A: You may not want to hear this, but “Mister Ed” is a prime case for online streaming services over traditional TV. They’re simply better suited to the likes of “Mister Ed.”
There’s always a chance of reruns coming back on TV, but channels — even the retrothemed ones — only have so many hours on their schedule, and the list of what is considered “classic” shows gets longer every day.
Retro-themed channels — such as TV Land, DejaView and Antenna TV — have brought “Mister Ed” on in the past, for a little while, but swapped it out for one of the hundreds of other classics they have to choose from.
Streaming services, on the other hand, have no such time limitations, so they can make “Mister Ed” available on demand, along with hundreds of other shows — far more than you could fit on a TV schedule.
So, while you can’t see the famous Mister Ed on regular TV, you can see him on streaming services like Roku, Prime Video, Tubi and more.
I don’t mean to get your hopes up, but there’s also always a chance of a remake. Hollywood’s tried multiple times over the years to do a reboot, but it’s never quite made it into production.
“Mister Ed” was, of course of course (that’s a solid “Mister Ed” joke that I’m very proud of), a CBS sitcom that ran from 1961 to 1966. It was about a California man named Wilbur (Alan Young, “DuckTales”), who has a pet horse (played by Bamboo Harvester) that can talk — a fact which, incredibly, was never explained on the show.
Q: What’s Alan Alda up to now? Has he retired?
A: At 89, TV legend Alan Alda (“MASH”) is still finding ways to keep working.
“At the moment, I can play anyone with Par-
kinson’s,” he joked to the U.K.’s The Guardian newspaper earlier this year. His Parkinson’s disease is pretty advanced, leaving him with a very pronounced shake.
That’s how he got a part in the buzzy new Netflix dramedy “The Four Seasons,” released in May; he plays an elderly man with Parkinson’s. The show is based on the 1981 film of the same name that he wrote, directed and starred in. This time around, his screen role is just a cameo, but he was still very involved behind the scenes.
And Alda is busy with other off-screen work as well, such as his podcast, “Clear + Vivid,” that he’s hosted since 2018. He’s also still an
active part of the Alda Center for Communicating Science, an institute at Stony Brook University in New York that he helped set up in 2009.
Prior to the “Four Seasons” remake, Alda had recurring parts in Showtime’s “Ray Donovan” and CBS’s “The Good Fight.” Plus, he had a role in the 2019 film “Marriage Story.” So it seems likely he’ll keep finding ways to work once “The Four Seasons” is done.
