The winds have changed in Chi-town. Following a shocking death in last season’s finale, the women of “The Chi” step up in the series’ seventh season, premiering Sunday, May 18, on the linear Paramount+ With Showtime network, and is available to stream on Paramount+ with Showtime.

Season 6’s finale episode opened with (spoilers) a bang — or rather the echo of a bang — and one of the city’s most notorious gangsters lying dead on the floor of his own club. For years, Otis “Douda” Perry (Curtiss Cook, “Carry-On,” 2024) ran Chicago, at times as a respected businessman and even as mayor for a short time, but always as a smooth operator conducting the city’s underworld.

Douda had made his fair share of enemies throughout his five-season-long run at the top of his empire, but it was ultimately his own No. 2, Nuck (Cortez Smith, “Loyalty Over Trust,” 2024), who pulled the trigger. Douda’s fate was sealed as he stared down Alicia (Lynn Whitfield, “Greenleaf”) as she asked for his final words and readied herself to take him out, only for Nuck, who’d recently survived a brutal beating at the hands of his boss, to step out of the shadows and make the shot.

Eliminating a common enemy did not, however, make friends of the two. This season, Alicia is decidedly on top, claiming her crown and bringing vital women up with her. While she initially speaks to the peaceful control of the city’s new regime in the official trailer for the upcoming season, it is not long before trouble comes knocking. According to Paramount: “as loyalties are tested and new rivalries are stoked, it becomes clear that there’s only one crown and it will come at a heavy cost.”

If Alicia wasn’t amenable to working with Nuck when they

Passing of the crown A new power rules the South Side in ‘The Chi’

both had guns aimed at Douda, then the deal was done when Nuck killed Alicia’s son Rob (Iman Shumpert, “Them”) in the same episode. “It’s time to get to work,” Alicia says in the trailer. It all comes down on the shoulders of the women of “The Chi” to put an end to the terror that men have inflicted on the city for too long.

“To protect this city, we have to clean up these streets ourselves,” Alicia demands of her circle. She is out for revenge for her son as much as she wants to rid the streets of Chicago of senseless violence, staking out targets in the cover of darkness.

Meanwhile, Nuck is building something of his own now that he’s replaced Douda in his operation. He’s not like his predecessor, Nuck declares in the trailer, putting his new underlings in their place threatening, “One of you disrespect me, I’ll kill you.”

Returning to “The Chi” this season are Jacob Latimore (“House Party,” 2023) as Emmett Washington; Yolonda Ross (“American Gigolo”) as Jada Washington; Shamon Brown Jr. (“Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”) as Stanley “Papa” Jackson; Michael V. Epps (“Primary Position,” 2023) as Jake Taylor; Birgundi Baker (“Black Lightning”) as Kiesha Williams; and Luke James (“Star”) as Victor “Trig” Taylor.

This new season introduces a few exciting guest stars to the Windy City. Phylicia Rashad (“The Beekeeper,” 2024) is Rene, a woman who is able to connect with Pastor Zeke (Daniel J. Watts, “The Penguin”). Wendy Raquel Robinson (“Poppa’s House”) is the generous Riley Dalton and Karrueche Tran (“Bel-Air”) is Zuri, a determined troublemaker.

Returning as guest stars this season are Kadeem Hardison (“Black Monday”), Chris Lee (“Tracker”), Brett Gray (“I’m a Virgo”), Rotimi (“Coming 2 America,” 2021), Jackie Long (“Games People Play”), Charmin Lee (“Uglies,” 2024) and Jill Marie Jones (“Sleepy Hollow”).

Season 7 of “The Chi” comes off the heels of a record-breaking season for the show, according to Paramount, citing a successful surge of streaming watches over the previous season.

“The Chi” comes from creator and executive producer Lena Waithe (“Master of None”), who produces the series under her Hillman Grad

banner. Co-showrunners Justin Hillian (“Snowfall”) and Jewel Coronel (“Lawmen: Bass Reeves”) also executive produce alongside Academy Award winner Common (“Silo”).

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter following last season’s finale in July 2024, Hillian provided a fuzzy look at what is to come this season, saying, “We strive to tell a well-

balanced story. You know, it’s just like the city, the joy, the pain, the ups, the downs. All of it. And it will all continue.”

Pressed further, Hillian promised, “It is going to be explosive!”

There has been no official word yet on an eighth season renewal of the drama series. However it was reported by Deadline in February that Paramount+ with Showtime had gone ahead and commissioned a writers’ room for the future season.

Don’t miss the streaming premiere of the new season of “The Chi” premiering Sunday, May 18, on the linear Paramount+ With Showtime network, and is available to stream on Paramount+ with Showtime.

Stars on screen

Red chair return: After having charmed viewers and fellow coaches alike during his last coaching stint on NBC’s “The Voice,” Snoop Dogg is officially returning as a coach for the singing competition’s 28th season.

The “Gin and Juice” rapper’s previous appearance on the show was in Season 26, which aired last fall. During the season finale, Snoop told host Carson Daly: “Man, this has been a great experience for me. I didn’t know what I was signing on to, but I do know … it feels like I could come back and do it again.”

Indeed, he’ll be doing it again this fall — though his return to “The Voice” isn’t for purely sentimental reasons but appears to be part of a greater business strategy.

The hip-hop legend’s return was secured by a new pact struck with NBCUniversal. According to Variety, the “new creative partnership” will also see him exploring various film, television, sports and streaming projects in conjunction with his Death Row Pictures production company, which will now be based on the Universal Studios lot.

“Audiences around the world love Snoop and connect with his unparalleled showmanship and artistry,” Donna Langley, chairperson of NBCUniversal Entertainment & Studios, said in a statement. “Those of us lucky enough to be in his orbit also know his incredible business acumen, endlessly creative spirit and the unapologetic authenticity that he brings to every project. There’s only one Snoop, and we’re so excited for him to join our unbelievable roster of creative partners.”

“Not everyone has the courage and vision to see what Death Row Pictures can bring to the table, but Donna and the NBCUniversal team have always understood, which is why I am proud to call NBCUniversal my new home,” added Snoop. “The Dogg has officially moved into the neighborhood, ya dig?”

Recently named one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People, Snoop is also working on a Universal film about his life. First announced in 2022 when he acquired Death Row Records, the film is still in the works — with “Black Panther” (2018) screenwriter Joe Robert Cole attached.

Song of success and sisterhood

We’ve all dreamed of a life where we “have it all”: luxury cars, sprawling land, all you could eat and, of course, the respect that comes with that type of wealth. And while many would simply settle for a stable income and enough food for their family to eat three square meals a day, that “what if” still nags heavily during the slow, boring days when daydreams are born.

Netflix keeps that high-class lifestyle in mind in the new dark comedy “Sirens,” starring Academy Award winner Julianne Moore (“Still Alice,” 2014) and Primetime Emmy nominee Kevin Bacon (“Footloose,” 1984) as socialites Michaela and Peter Kell, an affluent couple that leads a perfectly curated lifestyle on a luxurious holiday destination island. Told from the perspective of an unexpected outsider, the twisted comedy explores themes related to the American class system, sisterhood, the drive to succeed and female empowerment, among other things.

“Sirens” premieres Thursday, May 22, on Netflix.

Based on the play “Elemeno Pea” by series writer and showrunner Molly Smith Metzler (“Maid”), “Sirens” follows protective older sister Devon DeWitt (Meghann Fahy, “The White Lotus”), who, despite her own mental health spiral, is determined to get to the bottom of her little sister’s strange attachment to her boss. When Devon shows up unexpectedly at the private estate of the Kells, she is overwhelmed by their perfectly manicured gardens, carefully curated buildings and the absurdly polished exterior of the staff, each of whom is directed and overseen by her sister, Simone (Milly Alcock, “House of the Dragon”).

Worse yet are the Kells themselves.

Bacon’s Peter Kell is described by Netflix as having “come from old money and is the most important person in every room he enters.” His ego follows him from galas to family functions, even accompanying him on his many ath-

letic endeavors. In fact, according to his press-provided character description, it sounds as though the only time Peter is relaxed is when he decides to partake in some casual marijuana use.

Moore’s Michaela Kell, on the other hand, is the main reason Devon has come to town looking for her sister. Sophisticated and aloof, Michaela is Simone’s calm and cultish boss, whom Netflix describes as a “philanthropist and animal activist who runs island high society.” While generally distant from her various staff, Michaela appears to have taken an unnatural shine to her new personal assistant, Simone, who is overjoyed to be held in such esteem by a wealthy and well-respected woman.

But when Devon arrives and immediately begins to spot big changes in her sister’s appearance and personality, Simone instantly becomes annoyed and frustrated. Across the show’s “five explosive episodes,” family drama plays out as Devon and Simone rehash their shared personal traumas amid plenty of bizarre encounters with the Kells and their entourage of indulgent billionaires.

“This story has a lot of teeth,” Smith Metzler told Netflix Tudum ahead of the series’ release.

“There are real moments of drama, and it’s going to make people uncomfortable. Operatic is a word I like to use to describe it. It’s a true dark comedy — and it’s got a Greek mythology vibe.”

It is important to note, however, that despite the ethereal, dreamy quality “Sirens” achieves, the series is still somehow grounded in real and relatable moments.

“Sirens is really a show about relationships and the way people

Screen Scramble

desperately try to outrun their past,” Fahy shared with audiences via Tudum. “We watch Simone run desperately away from who she is ... Devon becomes embarrassed. Simone starts calling out all of Devon’s bad habits, bad relationships and the way that she mistreats herself.”

Echoing her character from the trailer, Fahy adds, “No one knows you like a sister.”

Joining Fahy, Alcock, Moore and Bacon on screen are Glenn Howerton (“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”) as billionaire bachelor Ethan Corbin III, a neighbor of the Kells’; Trevor Salter (“SheHulk: Attorney at Law”) as Jordan, Ethan’s young and attractive yacht captain; Josh Segarra (“Abbott Elementary”) as Raymond, a proud restaurant manager in Buffalo, N.Y., and Devon’s on-again, off-again boyfriend; Felix Solis (“The Rookie: Feds”) as Jose, the Kells’ astute gardener and allaround helper; Lauren Weedman (“Hacks”) as Patrice, the Kells’ longtime chef; Britne Oldford (“The Umbrella Academy”) as the Kells’ seasonal housekeeper, Missy; and Jenn Lyon (“Claws”), Erin Neufer (“Julia”) and Emily Borromeo (“Blue Bloods”) as trio Cloe, Lisa and Astrid, known collectively as “The Fates.”

Bill Camp (“12 Years a Slave,” 2013) also appears in “Sirens” as Bruce DeWitt, Simone and Devon’s father, whose health has recently taken a turn for the worse due to an unexpected diagnosis of early onset dementia. As a father and a “gruff and proud” veteran of the U.S. Navy, Bruce hopes against all odds that this new medical hurdle doesn’t turn him into a burden for his daughters.

Trading in his knives for his state-of-the-art surveillance van and high-tech spyware, Gordon Ramsay (“Hell’s Kitchen”) is going undercover in his boldest mission yet. “Gordon Ramsay’s Secret Service” premieres Wednesday, May 21, on Fox, with the worldrenowned chef exposing the unspeakable horrors behind the menu.

Hosted by Ramsay — who is famously known for confronting chefs head-on in “Hell’s Kitchen,” “Kitchen Nightmares” and “Next Level Chef” — is now flipping the script in his latest series. But this time, the element of surprise is on his side. Armed with hidden cameras, secret informants and forensic-level kitchen investigations, Ramsay is exposing the horrors lurking behind

some of America’s most troubled restaurants — all without tipping off the staff.

“With the help of a secret source on the inside, he’ll gather raw, unfiltered evidence and get a 360-degree view of the major issues facing each restaurant,” explains a description from Fox.

“This insider will not only remain a secret to the staff but will also help Ramsay infiltrate the restaurant after-hours for a dramatic nighttime black light kitchen investigation that reveals more filth and grossness than ever before. By the time Ramsay reveals his identity, it will be too late for staff to cover up their culinary crimes.”

Ramsay has never been one to shy away from a challenge, but going undercover to rescue failing restaurants pushes him into uncharted territory and one question remains: are the staff willing to accept Ramsay’s mission, or are they too far gone to be saved?

“For years, I’ve embarked on daring adventures with Fox,” Ramsay said. “But ‘Secret Service’ is the most intrepid of them all. With undercover help and cutting-edge technology, I get to go full-on ‘MI6’ with these restaurants — and they’ll never see it coming.”

The world-renowned chef is dominating the culinary TV scene, with “Gordon Ramsay’s Secret Service” serving as the latest addition. Ramsay also has six other shows on Fox — “Next Level Chef,” “Hell’s Kitchen,” “MasterChef,” “MasterChef Junior,” “Kitchen Nightmares” and “Food Stars.”

Produced by Studio Ramsay Global and Fox Alternative Entertainment, with Ramsay and Bill Langworthy (“The Hills”) credited as executive producers, “Gordon Ramsay’s Secret Service” serves up a flavorful first season Wednesday, May 21, on Fox.

“Fountain of Youth” (2025)

A power beyond our comprehension is explored in “Fountain of Youth,” coming Friday, May 23, to Apple TV+. From director Guy Ritchie (“Sherlock Holmes,” 2009), “Fountain of Youth” follows two estranged siblings — played by John Krasinski (“The Office”) and Natalie Portman (“Black Swan,” 2010) — as they reunite when a mysterious artifact resurfaces, hinting at the location of the Fountain of Youth, a mythical source said to grant eternal life. Together, they embark on a journey across mountains, jungles and forgotten cities as they follow an ancient map and use their knowledge of history on an epic adventure that will change their lives forever. Along the way, they must outwit ruthless treasure hunters and decipher secrets buried for centuries, while grappling with the wounds that once tore them apart. Also starring Eiza Gonzalez (“Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw,” 2019), Domhnall Gleeson (“About Time,” 2013), Carmen Ejogo (“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” 2016) and Stanley Tucci (“The Lovely Bones,” 2009), “Fountain of Youth” is written by James Vanderbilt (“Zodiac,” 2007). Ritchie, Vanderbilt, Matt BettinelliOlpin (“Abigail,” 2024), Tyler Gillett (“Ready or Not,” 2019), Paul Neinstein (“Novocaine,” 2025) and Chad Villella (“V/H/S,” 2012) are producers.

WHAT’S NEW ON NETFLIX

“Big Mouth” - Season 8

The hormone monsters are returning for the final chapter in Season 8 of the long-running animated series, “Big Mouth,” premiering Friday, May 23, on Netflix, with Cynthia Erivo (“Wicked,” 2024), Kristen Wiig (“Bridesmaids,” 2011), Holly Hunter (“The Incredibles,” 2004) and more guest starring. In Season 8, the Bridgeton teens are facing a new wave of growing pains as Nick (Nick Kroll, “Don’t Worry Darling,” 2022) wrestles with his first growth spurt, Andrew (John Mulaney, “SpiderMan: Into the Spider-Verse,” 2018) confronts his existential dread of premature balding, Jessi (Jessi Klein, “Dead to Me”) explores her identity, while Missy (Jenny Slate, “Zootopia,” 2016) takes charge of her health — with the help of her Hormone Monstress, Mona (Thandiwe Newton, “The Pursuit of Happyness,” 2006). Through it all, the one thing keeping these high schoolers afloat is their friendship. From creators Kroll, Andrew Goldberg (“Family Guy”), Mark Levin (“Journey to the Center of the Earth,” 2008) and Jennifer Flackett (“The Adam Project,” 2022), who also serve as co-writers and executive producers, the series’ regular voice cast also includes Jason Mantzoukas (“Invincible”), Jordan Peele (“Get Out,” 2017) and Maya Rudolph (“Bridesmaids,” 2011).

“Fear Street: Prom Queen” (2025)

Get ready for another bloody trip to Shadyside, inspired by R.L. Stine’s acclaimed novel “The Prom Queen.” After the smash success

of the Fear Street trilogy in 2021, Netflix is resurrecting the franchise with “Fear Street: Prom Queen,” premiering Friday, May 23, on the streamer. Set in the neon-soaked halls of Shadyside High School in 1988, the latest chapter follows the school’s reigning “it girls” as they battle to be crowned prom queen. But when a gutsy outsider earns a spot on the court, the competition suddenly turns deadly. As the bodies start piling up, it becomes clear that something far more sinister than high school drama is lurking the school halls. In Shadyside, prom night isn’t a rite of passage — it’s a fight for survival. From the producers of “R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour,” Joan Waricha and Jane Stine, “Fear Street: Prom Queen” is directed by Matt Palmer (“Calibre,” 2018), who penned the screenplay alongside Donald McLeary (“West Skerra Light,” 2016). India Fowler (“Insomnia”), Suzanna Son (“The Idol”), Fina Strazza (“Paper Girls”), David Iacono (“The Summer I Turned Pretty”), Ella Rubin (“The Idea of You,” 2024), Chris Klein (“Sweet Magnolias”), Lili Taylor (“Manhunt”), Katherine Waterston (“The End We Start From,” 2023) and Ariana Greenblatt (“Barbie,” 2023) also star.

A coming-of-age drama set in the fading town of Ironwood, Season 1 of “Motorheads” premieres Tuesday, May 20, on Prime Video. From creator John A. Norris (“One Tree Hill”), the series follows a group of outsider teens who are brought together by a shared love for street racing. In the glow of taillights and under the weight of family legacies, they build friendships that just might outlast their clunky old engines. Together, they confront the challenges of high school, first loves and big dreams. Starring is Ryan Phillippe (“Cruel Intentions,” 1999) as Logan, a former NASCAR mechanic; Nathalie Kelley (“The Vampire Diaries”) as Samantha, a nurse who left behind her life in New York City to return to her hometown; Michael Cimino (“Never Have I Ever”) as Zac, who aspires to live up to his father’s street racing legacy; Melissa Collazo (“Swamp Thing”) as Caitlyn, a gifted mechanic who moved back home to solve her father’s disappearance; and Uriah Shelton (“Freaky,” 2020) as Curtis, a shy outsider who is a skilled mechanic. “Clarkson’s Farm” - Season 4 Throwing viewers back into the mud-splattered chaos of the Diddly Squat Farm, “Clarkson’s Farm” returns for its fourth season, premiering Friday, May 23, on Prime Video. Picking up just a few months after the events of Season 3, a lot has changed on the Diddly Squat Farm. Kaleb (“The World According to Kaleb: On Tour,” 2024) has hit the road on a nationwide tour, while Lisa (“Prue Leith’s Cotswold Kitchen”) is busy developing a new product line. Left to steer the farm through unpredictable weather, stubborn livestock and bureaucratic hurdles, Jeremy (“Phineas and Ferb”) faces his greatest challenge yet as he runs the Diddly Squat Farm solo. Never one to do things the easy way, Jeremy dreams up a bold new venture: buying and renovating a local pub.

Directed by Kit Lynch Robinson (“The Grand Tour”), series executive producers include Peter Fincham (“The Chelsea Detective”) and Andy Wilman (“Jeremy Clarkson War Stories,” 2011).

Q: Is it true that Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are remaking “The Golden Girls”?

A: As fun as a “Golden Girls” remake starring some of today’s female comedy greats would be, it’s just an online hoax.

It stems from what appeared to be a poster for the remade show that circulated widely online. It showed Tina Fey (“30 Rock”), Amy Poehler (“Parks and Recreation”), Maya Rudolph (“Loot”) and Lisa Kudrow (“Friends”) posed together under the title “The Golden Girls.”

Tellingly, Poehler and Kudrow are in costume and makeup to make them look older, while Fey and Rudolph are not. In fact, they look even younger than they are now, suggesting that the photos the trickster used were from a while ago.

When asked about it by “Entertainment Tonight,” Fey said she enjoyed the joke, but it would only be convincing to folks who aren’t familiar with the digital trickery people are capable of today. “If this fooled you, you might be a Boomer. And if you’re Gen X, and this fooled you, go to a hospital.”

Despite being off the air for decades, love for the original, barrier-smashing sitcom “The

Golden Girls,” which ran on NBC from 1985 to 1992, is still going strong.

But Fey said that’s actually a reason not to remake it: “The original is … those ladies can’t be touched.”

Q: Did the actress who voiced Lilo in the original “Lilo & Stitch” movie come back for the new one?

A: Not only did Daveigh Chase (“Donnie Darko,” 2001) not take a role in this year’s remake of her beloved 2002 Disney hit “Lilo & Stitch,” she hasn’t taken a role of any kind in nearly a decade.

Chase voiced the titular child character Lilo in the original film, in which she adopts a fugitive monster from space, thinking it’s a dog — this being the other title character, Stitch, voiced by Chris Sanders (“The Wild Robot,” 2024), who also wrote and directed the film.

It was part of a big 2002 for Chase, who was just 12 years old at the time. That same year, she also starred as a ghostly, nightmarish presence named Samara in the blockbuster horror classic “The Ring.”

But much like the characters she haunted in that film, it seems that Chase has fallen victim to a curse — in her case, the childstar curse. Like so many others in her position, she was unable to carry her success into adulthood. Roles kept coming for a few years but never of the same caliber, and none made the same impact.

She now seems to have given up on acting. Her most recent role

was the 2016 serial killer thriller “American Romance,” which was dismissed by viewers and critics alike. Andrew Parker of entertainment website The Gate said the film “forgets to be genuinely entertaining or surprising.”

It’s a shame, because Chase is a big part of the DNA of “Lilo & Stitch.” Not only did she star in the film but she also voiced the character in three direct-to-video sequel films (two in 2003 and one in 2006) and the TV series that ran for two seasons on the Disney Channel from 2003 to 2006.

stallment in 2013, including the 2017 BBC literary miniseries “Decline and Fall,” based on the novel by Evelyn Waugh, and a recurring voice role on the lavish early-’00s series “His Dark Materials,” another literary adaptation, this time of the beloved children’s novels by Philip Pullman. And, just this year, Suchet co-starred in the thriller series “The Au Pair,” which aired on ITV in his native U.K.

More of interest to “Poirot” fans is the docuseries he did this past March: “Travels With Ag-

Sudoku

Fill in the grid so that every row, every column, and every 3x3 box contains the digits 1 through 9 Solution on page 6.

Q: Is David Suchet still acting? Or did he retire after “Poirot”?

A: David Suchet, who played the titular Belgian detective on the long-running mystery series “Poirot,” has actually been surprisingly active since hanging up his mustache comb in 2013 (that’s a joke for the “Poirot” fans like yourself).

He did 70 episodes of the series (though they were closer to TV movies than regular episodes), which was based on the short stories and novels of crimewriting legend Agatha Christie. He first appeared in the role all the way back in 1989.

He’s done loads of shows and films since his last “Poirot” in-

atha Christie & Sir David Suchet.” It took Suchet on a journey to various countries Christie visited in her life “to uncover the literary enigma’s inspirations” (per BritBox). The five-episode miniseries is available over here on the BritBox streaming service.

“’Travels With Agatha Christie & Sir David Suchet’ is a testament to the enduring allure of Christie’s genius,” Robert Schildhouse, an enthused BritBox North America president, said in a release.
