Blessed be the fruit, and heroic be the handmaids. After a three-year hiatus, the citizens of Gilead, Little America and New Bethlehem alike return for the sixth and final season of “The Handmaid’s Tale,” coming to Hulu with a three-episode premiere Tuesday, April 8. Episodes set to release weekly thereafter. Created for television by Bruce Miller (“Eureka”) and inspired by Margaret Atwood’s 1985 novel of the same name, this dystopian tale takes place in a totalitarian society, Gilead, built in what was once the United States. Low fertility rates led to the rise of theocracy, and the creation of a system in which fertile women (called “handmaids”) are assigned to powerful men and their wives, forcing them to bear children they must immediately surrender.
Eager to save her eldest daughter, Hannah (Jordana Blake, “Riot Girls,” 2019), one steadfast Handmaid, Offred (Elisabeth Moss, “The Invisible Man,” 2020) — later known by her real name, June — has fought tooth and nail to free herself from Gilead’s oppressive constraints, despite working for the likes of the ever-powerful Cmdr. Waterford (Joseph Fiennes, “Shakespeare in Love,” 1998) and his wife, Serena Joy (Yvonne Strahovski, “Teacup”), as well as Gilead architect Joseph Lawrence (Bradley Whitford, “The West Wing”), a complicated man wrestling with the reverberations of his own creation.
June’s fight continued following the birth of her daughter Nichole, eventually leading both to find safety in Canada, with June’s husband Luke (O-T Fagbenle, “No Good Deed”) and her best friend, former Handmaid Moira (Samira Wiley, “Orange Is the New Black”).
Captured alongside her husband, Serena soon followed suit, confined in Toronto until she was eventually freed and sent to live with a couple more

than obsessed with her newborn child. As tensions grew on both sides of the border, however, both Serena and June found themselves on the run in Season 5’s chilling finale, children in tow as they made way for the supposedly-safe Hawaii.
In her first interview following said finale, the Emmy-nominated Strahovski spoke candidly to Vanity Fair about Serena and June’s journey. “Personally, I don’t feel like they’re going to make it very far,” she says. “I can’t see them making it to their destination of choice.”
According to Hulu’s synopsis for the upcoming season, it seems Strahovski is correct. While welcoming series newcomers like Josh Charles (“Dead Poets Society,” 1989), D’Arcy Carden (“The Good Place”) and Timothy Simons (“Veep”), this sixth and final season promises more trouble for series favorites Serena Joy and June, as the former dives into a campaign to reform Gilead, while the latter fights to demolish the oppressive regime.
Later, speaking with W Magazine, Strahovski shared her thoughts on the upcoming season: “It got pretty raw in past seasons, but it gets even rawer this season. I don’t know how to explain it any other way. They just have some kind of a no[nonsense] language between them, where they can really see and hear each other. They can’t lie to each other very well. And that relationship is also really, really complicated, and it’s been great to go even deeper into those complications.”
While Serena and June fight for opposing sides once again, the morally ambiguous Cmdr. Lawrence is busy reimagining his blueprints for Gilead, creating a more welcoming, approachable environment with New Bethlehem — a development meant to offer more modern-day amenities and less stringent rules to those interested in joining a Gilead-adjacent way of life. New Bethlehem offers sanctuary to all, including banished traitors and runaway handmaidens, which may prove
tantalizing for runaway Serena. Despite his role in Gilead’s creation and evolution, however, Lawrence has often undermined his own totalitarian society, leaving fans to wonder what his true intentions might be with this next plan of action. Speaking to Liam Crowley at SXSW, Whitford shared his complicated (and cheeky) feelings regarding the show’s final season.
“I won’t say the ending, but we just wrapped up,” Whitford said. “Obviously, it’s a dark show, but it was such a joyous, weirdly sweet set, and a really wonderfully creative, interactive experience. It’s a show I’m really proud of. I love that part, and it was really hard to say goodbye to everybody. But we solved the whole misogyny fascism thing. Our work was done.”
Whether June and her allies are truly able to “solve the whole misogyny fascism thing” has yet to be seen, but “Handmaid’s” fans and avid Atwood readers alike know that Gilead’s story is far from over, given that “The Handmaid’s Tales” sequel, “The Testaments,” is set to be developed into a series of its own.
Set 15 years after the original, this next series will also feature
Miller as series creator and will star the likes of Ann Dowd (“The Exorcist: Believer,” 2023), who reprises her role as Aunt Lydia, alongside Chase Infiniti (“Presumed Innocent”), Lucy Halliday (“Blue Jean,” 2022) and more. Ending one story and introducing another, the epic, sixth and final season of “The Handmaid’s Tale” debuts with a three-episode premiere Tuesday, April 8, on Hulu.

Third strike: After eight seasons, two cancelations and two last-minute reprieves, it looks like it might be the end for “S.W.A.T.” Starring Shemar Moore (“Criminal Minds”) and based on the 1975 ABC series of the same name, the action-packed police procedural was recently canceled by CBS and the current season, its eighth, will be its last.
But, we’ve seen this scenario play out before. In May 2023, the show was canceled after six seasons, only for the decision to be reversed days later when CBS worked out a licence fee deal with producers/distributors, CBS Studios and Sony Pictures TV. Season 7 didn’t end up being the final season, either, despite being touted as such. The show was then handed a surprise renewal in April 2024.
This time, the cancelation might actually stick, though you never know. The news was shared with the cast and crew last month. Showrunner and executive producer Andrew Dettmann (“Numb3rs”) reflected on the news, saying, “It’s heartbreaking news, primarily because it’s been such an immense pleasure working with this cast and crew to put out a show that we’ve always been proud of. They are truly an extraordinary group of people who have all worked so hard and have been
so dedicated for all these eight seasons, overcoming countless challenges. I can’t give them enough credit. I feel so privileged to have been a part of the ‘S.W.A.T.’ family.”
Given the show’s history, it’s understandable if fans are holding out hope for a reprieve — its star is, too.
In a video posted on Instagram, Moore — a CBS mainstay since his TV debut in the ‘90s in “The Young and The Restless” — expressed gratitude for the show’s success, though he made it clear he hasn’t given up on it, cautioning network executives that “I don’t think you’re making the right decision.” He went on to pitch Netflix as a possible new home for the series, pointing out that it quickly became the topstreaming series on the platform and stayed in the top 15 for several months. Moore said, “So Netflix, if you’re interested in a show that is on autopilot that the world is watching, we’d love to come play.”
Barring new developments, “S.W.A.T.” looks set to wrap up this May, though it isn’t the only CBS drama to get the axe: “FBI: Most Wanted” and “FBI: International” are gone after their current seasons, too. But CBS has renewed at least 10 of its series at the time of writing, with “The Neighborhood” getting the green light for a final season.
From the list below, find each word and circle its letters in the puzzle to reveal the message relating to this week’s topic.

Desperate times Hamm preys on ‘Friends & Neighbors’ in new Apple series
By Dana Simpson TV Media
Whether diving into the sinister world of tech companies and the ideal 9-5 worker in “Severance,” or creeping behind Hollywood’s velvet curtain in “The Studio,” Apple TV+ has recently made a name for itself by presenting storylines centered around the destructive hopes and dreams of the rich. But what about the fallen rich — those who have built their lives on stately homes, beautiful partners and seemingly perfect families, only to watch it all crumble beneath the soles of their Italian leather loafers? Well, this new series on Apple TV+ has that covered.
“Your Friends & Neighbors,” premiering Friday, April 11, on the Apple-owned streaming service, stars “Mad Men” actor Jon Hamm as Andrew “Coop” Cooper, an affluent hedge fund manager who loses his well-paying, highpowered job shortly after divorcing his wife, Mel, played by “Fatal Attraction” actress Amanda Peet. After Coop meets with his financial adviser — who tells him he has enough money to “coast” in his current lifestyle for no more than six months — he begins looking for ways to sustain his wealth by other means. Unfortunately for those around him, Coop’s methods may not be in their best interest.
More specifically, “after being fired in disgrace, Andrew ‘Coop’ Cooper ... resorts to stealing from his neighbors’ homes in the exceedingly affluent Vestment Village,” the official Apple TV+ logline reads, “only to discover that the secrets and affairs hidden behind those wealthy facades might be more dangerous than he ever imagined.”
“Your Friends & Neighbors” comes from author, creator and executive producer Jonathan Tropper, who is also known for his writing work on the Jason Momoa-led sci-fi series “See” as well as films such as 2017’s retro road trip drama “Kodachrome” and 2022’s action film “The Adam Project,” starring Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds (“Deadpool & Wolverine,” 2024).
Tropper, excited about the debut of his first original television series creation since 2019, told Apple TV+ Press about his experience taking the first season off the page and onto the screen.
“I’ve had this show in my head for years, and making it has been a dream come true,” Tropper said. “It’s been an absolute thrill partnering with Jon Hamm, along with [fellow executive producers] Connie Tavel [’Judging Amy’] and Craig Gillespie [’I, Tonya,’ 2017], to bring it to life.
“The support from everyone at Apple has been phenomenal,” he continued, “and the fact that they’ve ordered a second season before we aired our first is an incredible validation and a tribute to the work of this stellar cast, as well as the crew, writers, directors and producers who worked so hard to make this show what it is. We can’t wait for everyone to see it.”
Indeed, as Tropper stated, Season 2 of “Your Friends & Neighbors” was announced in November 2024 alongside the release date for the series premiere — an action that is a relative rarity in the television business, especially for an original series not tied to preexisting property (for example, book-to-TV franchises such as “The Wheel of Time” or “Game of Thrones”). The series’ “quick renewal,” Deadline writes, “is a big vote of confidence and indicative of Apple’s lofty expectations for the drama, which marks Hamm’s first time headlining an ongoing series since his Emmy-winning turn on ‘Mad Men.’”
But Hamm isn’t the only recognizable face in the dramedy’s 10-episode debut season. Peet, who rose to fame following her
Screen Scramble
role as Jill St. Claire in “The Whole Nine Yards” (2000), stars as Hamm’s ex-wife and mother of their children, Tori (Isabel Gravitt, “In Search of Fellini,” 2017) and Hunter (Donovan Colan, “Chapelwaite”).
Fans of the 2012-2014 HBO series “The Newsroom” may also be delighted to know that Olivia Munn, who played Sloan Sabbith in that series, will star in “Your Friends & Neighbors” as Samantha Levitt. Based on the trailer and series write-ups, it seems likely that Munn’s character will be a love interest for Hamm’s character, Coop. At the time of writing, however, very little information has been released regarding the relationships between characters.
The main cast is rounded out by Tony Award winner Lena Hall (“Snowpiercer”) as Allison “Ali” Cooper, Mark Tallman (“First Wives Club”) as Nick Brandes, Aimee Carrero (“The Menu,” 2022) as Elena Benavides, and Hoon Lee (“Banshee”) and Eunice Bae (“Fallout”) as Barney and Grace Choi, respectively. Sandrine Holt (“House of Cards”), Corbin Bernsen (“Kiss Kiss Bang Bang,” 2005), Sarah Thompson (“7th Heaven”), Daniel Dale (“Y2K,” 2024), Gino Vento (“Mayans M.C.”), Happy Anderson (“Bad Boys for Life,” 2020), Jennifer Mudge (“Somebody Somewhere”), Miriam Silverman (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”), Lizbeth MacKay (“Rarely Never Sometimes Always,” 2020) and rising talent Jameson Flynn Lopez appear in recurring roles. Don’t miss the double-episode premiere of “Your Friends & Neighbors” when the first of two confirmed seasons premieres Friday, April 11, on Apple TV+.

Embrace the country life with cookbook author, food blogger, TV personality and chef Molly Yeh (“The Best Thing I Ever Ate”) during a brand-new episode of “Girl Meets Farm,” airing Sunday, April 6, on Food Network.
Throughout this delicious and educational series, Yeh — who was once a New Yorker but now lives on a sugar beet farm on the North Dakota-Minnesota border — welcomes friends, family and viewers alike into her gorgeous gourmet kitchen, where she shares personal recipes that reflect, embrace and celebrate her Jewish and Chinese heritage.
Certifiably “food obsessed,” Yeh has been on a mission to share her passion for cooking since the release of her 2016 memoir, “Molly On The Range:
Recipes and Stories from an Unlikely Life on a Farm.” Yeh followed that up with her cookbook “Yogurt” (2018), an ode to one of the culinary world’s most versatile ingredients, gaining further virality through her lifestyle and food blog, mynameisyeh.com.
According to Food Network, Yeh’s talent in the kitchen has been widely recognized, as she has been “featured by the New York Times, Food & Wine, Bon Appetit and New York Magazine, and has contributed to Vanity Fair, Saveur, Condé Nast Traveler, Food52 and The Jewish Daily Forward. She was named to Forbes’ 30 under 30 list for 2017 and Apartment Therapy’s 10 under 40 list.”
Now, with more than a dozen seasons of “Girl Meets Farm” under her belt, Yeh has taken her skills and shared them with the masses, showcasing beginnerfriendly, time-conscious recipes that are perfect for busy parents
and students. Some of her standout dishes include shakshuka with feta, homemade chili potato chips and sesame avocado salsa, gochujang meatloaf sandwiches, Korean corn dogs, grilled cheese with everything bagel seasoning and slow cooker Asian wedding soup.
This week, Yeh takes on a family-friendly challenge as she throws a superhero-themed birthday party for her niece. For dinner, our host prepares green pesto pasta with burrata, a pepperoni pizza cheeseball with crunchy cheese crackers and salami chopped salads. For dessert, she tops it off with a chocolate beet superhero cake that’s a real crowd pleaser.
Join Yeh in her food obsession — and perhaps bake a cake of your own — when “Girl Meets Farm” airs a brand-new episode Sunday, April 6, on Food Network.

Q: How did they manage to get both Disney and Warner Bros. characters in “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”?
A: As the old punchline says, “Very carefully.”
It was indeed a huge achievement to bring together characters from cartoon competitors Disney and Warner Bros., as well as ones owned by King Features Syndicate, Turner, Universal and others, for the 1988 smash “Who Framed Roger Rabbit.” And when you need a huge cinematic achievement, who do you call? Steven Spielberg (“Raiders of the Lost Ark,” 1981).
The short answer is Spielberg came on board as a producer and used all his Hollywood influence to get various studios to sign up with him.
According to a retrospective of the movie published by the Hollywood Reporter, he got them to agree to license their characters for “the unbelievable flat rate” of $5,000 per on-screen appearance. There was another odd but important stipulation: Warner demanded that its marquee character, Bugs Bunny, receive the same amount of screen time as Disney’s leading character, Mickey Mouse. You can see it in the scene where they both skydive out of a plane
with the live-action main character Eddie Valiant (Bob Hoskins, “The Long Good Friday,” 1980). That same dynamic plays out with a few other characters. Daffy Duck (WB) and Donald Duck (Disney) are on screen together for the exact same amount of time, playing piano at a night club. And at the end, Porky Pig (WB) gets to do his “That’s all, folks” line, but is then magicked away so Disney’s Tinker Bell can do her own traditional end-of-show goodbye.
Q: Where is Bonnie Hunt nowadays? I haven’t seen her in a while.
A: Once a very visible face and name on TV — starring in a string of three shows with her name right in the title and ending with the daytime talker “The Bonnie Hunt Show” from 2008 to 2010 — Bonnie Hunt (“Jumanji,” 1995) has retreated from the limelight a little, but she’s no less busy. Hunt is now a prolific voice actor, with longstanding gigs in some of the biggest animated films of all time. She is, for example, Sally in the Cars franchise, Dolly in “Toy Story 3” (2010) and “Toy Story 4” (2019), and she voiced a character creatively named Bonnie Hopps in “Zootopia” in 2016.
She also does work behind the scenes, such as writing and producing the 2022 AppleTV+ dramedy series “Amber Brown.”
But, she still steps in front of the camera from time to time, most recently in a pretty big way. She was Mrs. Claus in 2024’s “Red One,” the mega-budget Christ-
mas action-comedy that also starred Dwayne Johnson (“Black Adam,” 2022) and Chris Evans (“The Avengers,” 2012).
Hunt has always had a pretty diverse career, often writing and producing the projects she’s starred in, especially all those “Bonnie” shows, which also included the two-season sitcom “Life With Bonnie” from 2002 to 2004 and another sitcom simply called “Bonnie” from 1995 to 1996.
It all stems from her early days as an improv performer in Chica-
eck said to Parade magazine back in December.
It was one of many interviews he gave while his long-running series “Blue Bloods” wound down its final season. And in more than one of them, he mentioned an interest in returning to the Stone series of TV movies.
But that’s as far as things have progressed.
“I haven’t worked on it yet,” said Selleck. “It would be an interesting challenge because Jesse is older now. There have been quite a few years between shows. That

go. This included being part of the legendary Second City troupe, which launched the careers of many other great multitasking stars.
Q: Is Tom Selleck going to do more Jesse Stone movies now that “Blue Bloods” is over?
A: Tom Selleck (“Magnum, P.I.”) has given a solid “maybe” to the question of whether he’ll return to his beloved Massachusetts-based police chief Jesse Stone. He said the main attraction is the fact that so many people (like yourself) are still interested.
“Everywhere I go, one of the things I get asked is, ‘When can I see another Jesse Stone?,’” Sell-
doesn’t mean he isn’t a viable character.”
There have been nine “Jesse Stone” movies since the series launched on CBS in 2005, and it’s true that the time between has varied. But the biggest gap was the three years between 2012’s “Jesse Stone: Benefit of the Doubt” and 2015’s “Lost in Paradise,” the most recent installment. It’s been 10 years since then.
Still, Selleck’s interest in the character hasn’t waned. And it seems, based on your question — and his anecdote — that the audience is still there, too.
