Local fundraiser still growing
Blues on Barton 5K in Oswego will aid Siebel, Sherrell families in fourth year

The fourth annual Blues on Barton 5K race will take place Saturday, Aug. 6 at Churchill Elementary School, 520 Secretariat Lane, Oswego. A kids’ race will begin at 8 a.m., and features a lap around Plank and Churchill schools. The 5K begins at 9 a.m. Registration remains open until the morning of the race at BluesonBarton.org. Justin Sather was one of the first homeowners in Oswego’s Churchill subdivision 12 years ago when the gathering first began. As time passed it grew larger and larger. band, and the rest was history. “After that [was] when the party really took off. We had more and more people coming each year,” Sather said. In 2011, Churchill Elementary School kindergarten teacher Kerry Engdahl was diagnosed with ALS, and many fundraisers were organized to support her and her family. “We figured if we were having all these people come over, why not try to raise some money while we were at it,” Sather said.
