SEASON FOR SONGS Local concerts will help lift holiday spirits By JOHN ETHEREDGE news@kendallcountynow.com
I
magine the Christmas holiday season without music. On second thought, please don’t. The holidays simply wouldn’t be the holidays without the haunting beauty of “Silent Night,” the soothing “White Christmas” and even the familiar silliness of “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” and so many other songs. Fortunately, there are plenty of opportunities in the coming days and weeks to hear holiday songs at concerts in Kendall County and nearby communities. Here’s a listing of several of those concerts that will feature popular songs of the season that promise to make this a merrier holiday season for you and yours: Over 400 Oswego High School student musicians will present the school’s annual holiday “Crystals” concert in the school auditorium on Saturday, Dec. 10, at 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. and on Sunday, Dec. 11, at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Advisory: the Crystals concerts are extremely popular and all four of the shows typically sell out. For more information, visit OHSband. org; to check on ticket availability, visit sd308.org/tickets. ••• The first performance of the Fox County Players’ community choir will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, in the auditorium on Waubonsee Community College’s Sugar Grove campus. The concert will feature a
wide variety of music that is a combination of sacred, secular, serious, comedic, traditional and modern. The concert will also include a sing-along portion, where the audience can join the choir on familiar holiday songs. In the spirit of giving, Fox Country Players will offer a donation opportunity to benefit Toys for Tots. Those attending the concert are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate. A collection box will be located in the lobby. Tickets are $5 for students and seniors (65 or older) and $10 for adults. Tickets may be purchased at waubonseetickets.com or at the door. For more information, visit foxcountryplayers.org. ••• The 23rd annual Yorkville High School Madrigal Dinner will be presented this weekend Dec. 9-11. The evening features a hearty meal, wassail, drama, comedy and a steady stream of Renaissance music. The Madrigal “lords and ladies” will perform traditional madrigals and holiday favorites while dressed in full costume during this themed event. YHS Madrigal Strings and Brass ensembles will also be featured. The Madrigal Dinner will be presented at the school on Friday, Dec. 9, at 6 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 10, at 6 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 11, at 4 p.m. Ticket reservations are recommended through showtix4u.com or also at the door.
