Little Red Barn Door To Open Specialty Baby Boutique On Geneva’s Historic Third Street Inside a little shop at 227 S. Third St, Geneva, on the upper level in the historic Berry House, something amazing is happening. What once was a simple online home décor shop has blossomed into not one brick and mortar location, but three, specializing in local craftsmanship, architectural salvage and unique baby items. The second location, a warehouse at 731 N 17th St, St. Charles, staged its grand opening in August. An extension of the shop in Geneva, Little Red Barn Door’s Warehouse carries even more furniture, home decor and new inventory that can’t be found in the shop and is open for special seasonal events. But it doesn’t stop there. The shop’s baby items have been such a hit consuming and expensive. We knew opening a brick-and-mortar would with customers, that a third location, Little Barn Baby, a baby boutique, eliminate all that and hopefully open more doors for us.” is opening this month at 207 S. Third Street #110, in Geneva, carrying Torres was right. Not only did having a storefront eliminate the burden of packaging and shipping, it also enabled the business to carry bigger and heavier items like custom furniture. Little Red Barn Door sources and carries products from local makers and crafters, offering unique, oneof-a-kind finds and restages the shop monthly with new decor, furniture and architectural salvage. Some of its more popular items include locally made candles, pillows, gnomes, and signs. And from the brand new Little Barn Baby, customers can expect the same fine quality and local craftsmanship the company is known for, but all geared toward the little ones. Gifts, nursery décor, books, toys and essentials – all made with the same care and attention to detail customers have found at the original Little Red Barn Door. Little Red Barn Door is located at 227 S. Third St., Suite 205, Geneva and is open Tues-Wed 10am-5pm, Thurs-Sat 10am-6pm & Sun 12pm-5pm. Call (630) 402-0072 or email hello@littleredbarndoor.com for more information, or visit the store’s Facebook page. The warehouse is open by unique baby gifts and nursery essentials. Owner Sylvia Torres says it is the mix of both old and new items that appointment and for special events. makes Little Red Barn Door and its sister shops unique. “We are also very fortunate to work with a great group of talented local small businesses that help us stock the shop with all the beautiful unique items we carry,” she says. “I try to pay attention to what people want and I always go with my gut. I want to stay true to my ‘brand’ and offer my customers something they will not find at a big box store. The shopping experience they have each time they come in to the shops will be different, and we are always working to bring in new items that will appeal to our customer base.” But while its growth has been impressive, the beginnings were as modest and homegrown as the name of the shop, itself. “We came up with the name Little Red Barn Door from an actual little red barn door we bought at a market. I saw the door and fell in love with it and knew I had to have it,” she says. “Within a small amount of time we started having a lot of orders and the packaging/shipping was so time-

AFFORDABLE PROPERTY INSURANCE FOR MORE THAN 90 YEARS IN 1925, a group of 36 farmers who could not find insurance

anywhere else formed their own company, Kane County Mutual Insurance Co. Over ninety years later, the company remains focused on providing its customers with service that exceeds their expectations. “The company was originally formed to fill a need for affordable property insurance in a rural area,” said manager Kathy Rice. “We still feel we offer a competitive product for our policy holders today.” The company provides property insurance coverage for farms, homes, rental properties, condos, tenants, structures under construction, as well as certain types of boats and RV’s. Equipment Breakdown Coverage can be added to your homeowners, farm owners or rental dwelling policies at a reasonable cost. The company has several convenient payment options as well. It is a small company that markets its products through various independent agencies, and remains based in Geneva, originally selected because it was the seat of Kane County. While much has changed during the past 90+ years, the company’s current leadership understands what has helped Kane County Mutual stand the test of time. “We maintain good relationships with our agents and our policy holders,” Rice said. When you call our office you will always talk to a real person.” Kane County Mutual Insurance, a Grinnell Mutual member, takes pride in being a farm mutual insurance company, owned by the policy holders, which helps keep premiums reasonable, since there are no stock holders to satisfy. For the future, the company plans to pursue controlled, sustainable growth by adding more agencies throughout Northern Illinois, where it does business. The company understands that those plans for the future can only occur if it remains focused on what it values most, its customers. “You are never just a number, but a person with our company,” Rice said. “Our company was founded on the Golden Rule, and we still adhere to that concept today.”

This year they have also expanded their offering of natural and eco-friendly products.

Originally established in 1977 as a Rug Doctor carpet cleaning rental store, in 1983 the business transformed into the vacuum repair and vacuum retailer we know today — Best Vac. Owner Ron Vohs teamed up with his wife, Kelly, in 1998 to purchase the St. Charles business.

SM-CL1694619

Today, Best Vac offers vacuum cleaners from leading manufacturers like Miele, Riccar and SEBO, as well as a full range of parts and accessories for all brands of vacuums. Best Vac operates a full-time, in-house service department and services all brands of vacuums, as well as home environment products such as air purifiers. Ron credits Kelly with the firm’s expansion into all-natural products. Now more than ever, you’ll find things at Best Vac you won’t find anywhere else in the area. Replace your dryer sheets with all-natural and chemical-free wool dryer balls. Made from pure New Zealand wool, these dryer balls are hypoallergenic and save time, energy and money. What about Moso Bags made from bamboo charcoal? They remove odors, allergens and harmful pollutants naturally for up to two years. Moso is fragrance-free, non-toxic and keeps children and pets safe. Best Vac now also features a host of natural and chemical-free cleaning products, and has added essential oils and diffusers. Ron and Kelly personally use

all products before offering them for sale and only offer the best to their customers. The Vohs have built their business with a philosophy of building relationships and helping customers rather than simply selling to them. They focus on solving problems and offering a solution that makes life easier for their customers. Every homeowner has a different cleaning situation — pets, allergies, carpet type, hard floor surfaces, and of course budget. The Vohs and the other experts at Best Vac take the time to demonstrate the features available on a variety of models, showing you how they perform and letting you make direct comparisons between them. The flooring industry has changed dramatically over the years and it is now imperative to choose the correct vacuum for your home. The wrong vacuum can damage your floors and there are even carpet manufacturers who void their warranty if certain brands of vacuums are used on their products. Like any business owner, the Vohs have experienced their share of challenges as big box stores and Internet dealers descended on the marketplace. But there are no substitutes for experienced and

knowledgeable staff who can help you make the best decision for your needs and the opportunity for you to try before you buy. Also, Ron explains that just because they are a small, familyowned business does not mean they are more expensive. In fact, Best Vac sells better products at similar or even lower price points. For example, you can purchase a high-quality Americanmade Riccar vacuum from Best Vac for as low as $249.

Despite increased competition from big box stores and Internet retailers, 2016, 2017 and 2018 were three of the best years in Best Vac’s 41-year history. “We continue to offer quality products, competitive prices, and we service what we sell,” Ron said. The Internet is no longer a cheaper option. Internet retailers can no longer absorb paying for free shipping and paying the sales tax on Internet orders, so prices are increasing. Also, a number of companies are not allowing their products to be sold online in order to maintain the integrity of the product. With local firms like Best Vac, far more of your tax dollars remain in the area to support the community compared to big box or online companies. “A good vacuum is designed to last a long time,” Ron said. “Unlike some newer manufacturers that don’t even make parts for their vacuums, Best Vac supports and services all of the products we sell with our on-site experienced service technicians.” To find your perfect vacuum, visit vacguys.com or take a test drive at 2015 Dean St., Suite 3, in St. Charles.

LOCAL OWNERSHIP+ NATIONAL BUYING POWER = Family Gary Titiner grew up in the flooring business, working at his father’s store from the time he was a child. After graduating from law school, Titiner followed his heart and began working full-time for his father, learning something new every day. When his father retired in 2010, Titiner started Family Flooring America. Titiner considers it to be built upon a 50+ year family legacy of experience and knowledge. He says he’s in the flooring business because, quite simply, he loves it. “Every day provides new experiences.” he said. “I love that we help make our customers’ homes more beautiful.” Family Flooring America is a full-service flooring store with an extensive selection of carpet, hardwood, ceramic, LVT, area rugs and window coverings. In addition, they offer installation on all of their products. And with financing options, it is easy for people to get their dream floors. Why put a store in Saint Charles? Titiner said it was a no-brainer. “St. Charles, Geneva, Batavia, in fact, the entire Fox River valley was a great location for my dad, and is for me. People here expect and appreciate excellent quality in both product and service. They know a great value when it is presented.” he said. Titiner says his business offers a perfect blend of big and small. “We are locally owned, but we have the buying power of the big box stores. It’s economies of scale at its best.” First and foremost, it is a locally owned family business, and so his customer’s money stays in the community. “We care about this community because we live in it” he said. “There are many places you can buy flooring, but there is no other place that cares as much as we do. We live here and we work here. This is our community; this is our home!”

At the same time, Family Flooring America is part of a 500+ store co-op that provides everything that large-scale, national retailers have. With access to first-class marketing, advertising and training he is able to effectively promote the business and train his staff. National pricing on his products allows him to pass on the savings to his customers, and not be the prey of the big box stores. As part of the Flooring America co-op, they also offers programs such as the “Confidence Plus Warranty” which allows customers to replace their floor at no charge, just because they don’t like it. Due to the Family Flooring America staff being committed to helping customers find just what they want, however, it is rarely used. Titiner does realize choosing new flooring can be overwhelming. There are so many different available options. It’s about asking the right questions and finding out about a customer’s needs. Titiner said that the secret to success really isn’t a secret. “It is simply exercising the long-proven practice of taking care of customers and delivering a fantastic experience.” he said. “At the end of the day, we want to give our customers great flooring at a great price, and an overall fantastic value. We want to earn their business.” And there’s nothing more rewarding than having a repeat customer. “We have people who say they would never shop anywhere else. People throw out the word trust a lot in business, but you can’t sell trust. You have to earn it. And that is what we try to do every day!” “Our company slogan is “Where Friends Send Friends” he said. “We take that very seriously. We know that if a customer will send their friend to us, then we have done our job well.”

Founded in 1953 by Stanley Sandell after his return from the Navy in World War II, the business began as one of the first distributors of the Thulman wood burning fireplace. When Thulman turned into the Majestic Fireplace Company, the business took the name Majestic Distributing. Originally a strictly wholesale company selling the Majestic Fireplace to builders and heating contractors, we opened our first retail outlet in 1963—and House of Fireplaces was born.

“We have been selling fireplaces since the very beginning of the air-cooled prefabricated fireplace,” Kevin said. “We have seen the industry go from one manufacturer to hundreds, from three fireplace choices to thousands. Throughout this evolution, we have continued to adapt to the changing tastes by adding more options, brands and choices for the customer.”

some of the exceptional fireplaces and options available. We would also like to add an outdoor products display area.

We go the extra mile in customer service. One of our funniest and most memorable experiences happened when a customer came in with his wife to look at gas logs. He really liked the gas grills, but she was not interested in the grills. So they looked at log sets and left.

We look forward to discovering how the fireplace industry will change and what new things there will be. We would like to see an increase in our in-house manufactured products, perhaps including a millwork shop for in-house custom mantels or a metal shop for high quality chase tops.

A couple days later, the wife returned, saying she would like to buy the grill for her husband as a surprise birthday present. She bought the grill and asked us to hold it until they came back for a log set. Later that week, the husband returned by himself and said he would like to buy the grill without his wife knowing about it. Somehow, we managed to hold him off on buying the grill. It ended up being a great surprise for him when they came in to get the gas log set, and he saw the grill with a big bow on it. Our

SINCE 1987

TG TOOLS HAS BEEN SUPPLYING THE HIGHEST QUALITY

DRILL BITS & CUTTING TOOLS

TO THE MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY Since 1987 TG Tools has been supplying the highest quality drill bits and cutting tools to the manufacturing industry. TG Tools is the U.S. Division of Jiangsu Tiangong Industrial. Its warehouse and offices are located in St. Charles, IL. This central location and a dedicated staff allow the company to maintain excellent customer support throughout the United States and Canada. Whether your requirements are for one drill bit or one million, TG Tools stands by all of its products with a oneyear, 100% satisfaction guarantee. “You can go into any hardware store and buy a drill bit, for say $5, and that bit may hold up 6 times and break,” says TG Tools Director of Sales and Marketing Richard Kutok. “We are able to produce the highest quality drill bits of anyone in the industry because we don’t have to buy materials from anyone,” says Kutok. “We have our own steel mills, furnaces to manufacture the drill bits, one of the largest electric furnaces in China, our own coal mines to heat the furnaces, and even our own mountains to bring in the iron ore.” TG Tools has built its business on hardware retailers,

distributors and ecommerce business. While TG Tools handles a complete line of drill bits, its KIK® Series of multi-functional HS Brad Point Bits, Spade Bits and Forstner Bits are the unique core of TG Tools’ innovative research and engineering. All their patented drill bits have been tested and proven “to be the best” by Atrona Laboratories of Machesney Park, Il. “Our KIK® Spade bit works in woods, plastic sheet metals, brass copper, pvc plus it will bore a curved path,” says Kutok. “Our HS Brad Point bit will work in those same materials, plus acrylic. It will give you a perfect ‘in’ and a perfect ‘out.’ It can work in these different materials due to the fact that we sharpen both the inside and the outside of the extrusion flutes, and we put six cutting at the tip, providing 20% more cutting surface. “Our KIK® Forstner Bits will work in acrylic and all types of wood, except bloodwood and ironwood,” says Kutok. “It will give you a perfect hole; it will mill, drill, route, channel, cut and bore. It, too, will give you a curved path. A Big Plus, is all of our bits can be resharpened.” TG Tools is also a full-line manufacturer, producing cobalt, heavy duty, concrete, black oxide, titanium-coated, and

silver and deming drill bits. “The majority of these bits come individually packaged, as well as in sets,” says Kutok. “We will be promoting the sets in our first annual warehouse sale in September.” Don’t miss TG Tools’ Warehouse Sale Thursday, Sept. 26 and Friday, Sept. 27 from 7 am to 5 pm, and Saturday, Sept 28 from 8 am to 3 pm, 1010 Cedar Ave., St. Charles, IL.

MORE THAN

JUST TEETH Modern Dentistry focuses on the patient just as much as their teeth

to lead an exceptional team at Modern Dentistry which has separated them from other dentist who offer implants. Modern Dentistry is a pioneer in several techniques, both clinically and in the dental laboratory. Their methods and product are used by skilled implantologists around the country.

The team at Modern Dentistry in Sugar Grove and Yorkville intends to become the largest provider of dental implants in Chicagoland. Based on their progress so far, they are well on their way to achieving that goal. Modern Dentistry was opened in 2001 and serves Yorkville, Sugar Grove and the surrounding areas. The Sugar Grove location was opened in 2007 as a center for dental implant and sedation therapy. While both offices meed the general dentistry needs of the community, they are one of the few dental providers in Chicagoland to offer comprehensive dental implant therapy for patients who are missing teeth, and intravenous sedation for patients who are afraid of dentists and dental procedures. Dr. Joseph Kim graduated from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry and has since received his fellowships from the Academy of General Dentistry and the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. In addition to is formal education, his experience acting as the implant course director for multiple implant companies has equipped him Page 16 • Insight • August 2019 | Special Advertising Section

As the first implantologist in the United States to offer the LeClerq-Martinez implant bridge, Dr. Kim has made it his goal to make denture replacement a realistic option for patients who have been suffering from loose and ill-fitting dentures. Many patients have never been given the option of replacing their removable dentures with dental implants, as most dentists do not provide full arch, non-removable dental implant solutions. Those that do often rely upon the minimal mechanical requirements relegating their patients to expensive repairs and replacements. While denture replacement can be expensive, the benefits are worth it. Biologically, dental implants can help prevent bone loss, thus minimizing disfiguring defects in the jaw and face. Functionally, patients can eat the foods that they

used to enjoy, such as salads, corn on the cob, fresh fruits and vegetables, and other nutritious meals. Their speech often improves due to having stable teeth again. Their self-confidence rises, as they don’t have to worry about embarrassing situations due to loose dentures. Dr. Kim also started his own dental laboratory in order to keep costs down. While some clinicians are charging over $50,000 for a single arch of dental implant restorations, Modern Dentistry is able to offer an even better solution of almost half the price. The team at Modern Dentistry is not only cost-conscious, they are conscious of the impact their services have on their patients. “Whenever we change a patient’s smile, we affect their self confidence, their health, and their overall happiness,” Dr. Kim said, “Our profession is truly rewarding to our patients and to us as providers. We understand that we are working with people, not just teeth.” That focus on the person is what has driven Modern Dentistry to continue to innovate, continue to focus on ways to better serve their patients, and it comes through in the way they treat everyone who enters their doors.
