FREE annual vacuum tuneup 4 FREE dry carpet cleaning rentals per year FREE vacuum assembly FREE service loaners Discounted labor rates Expedited repair turnaround time est Vac is one of the most experienced vacuum stores in the Midwest. 2018 marks their 41st year of serving the area’s cleaning needs. This year they have also expanded their offering of natural and eco-friendly products.
Originally established in 1977 as a Rug Doctor carpet cleaning rental store, in 1983 the business transformed into the vacuum repair and vacuum retailer we know today — Best Vac. Owner Ron Vohs teamed up with his wife, Kelly, in 1998 to purchase the St. Charles business.
SM-CL1591983
Today, Best Vac offers vacuum cleaners from leading manufacturers like Miele, Riccar and SEBO, as well as a full range of parts and accessories for all brands of vacuums. Best Vac operates a full-time, in-house service department and services all brands of vacuums, as well as home environment products such as air purifiers. Ron credits Kelly with the firm’s expansion into all-natural products. Now more than ever, you’ll find things at Best Vac you won’t find anywhere else in the area. Replace your dryer sheets with all-natural and chemical-free wool dryer balls. Made from pure New Zealand wool, these dryer balls are hypoallergenic and save time, energy and money. What about Moso Bags made from bamboo charcoal? They remove odors, allergens and harmful pollutants naturally for up to two years. Moso is fragrance-free, non-toxic and keeps children and pets safe. Best Vac now also features a host of natural and chemical-free cleaning products, and has added essential oils and diffusers. Ron and Kelly personally use
all products before offering them for sale and only offer the best to their customers. The Vohs have built their business with a philosophy of building relationships and helping customers rather than simply selling to them. They focus on solving problems and offering a solution that makes life easier for their customers. Every homeowner has a different cleaning situation — pets, allergies, carpet type, hard floor surfaces, and of course budget. The Vohs and the other experts at Best Vac take the time to demonstrate the features available on a variety of models, showing you how they perform and letting you make direct comparisons between them. The flooring industry has changed dramatically over the years and it is now imperative to choose the correct vacuum for your home. The wrong vacuum can damage your floors and there are even carpet manufacturers who void their warranty if certain brands of vacuums are used on their products. Like any business owner, the Vohs have experienced their share of challenges as big box stores and Internet dealers descended on the marketplace. But there are no substitutes for experienced and

knowledgeable staff who can help you make the best decision for your needs and the opportunity for you to try before you buy. Also, Ron explains that just because they are a small, familyowned business does not mean they are more expensive. In fact, Best Vac sells better products at similar or even lower price points. For example, you can purchase a high-quality Americanmade Riccar vacuum from Best Vac for as low as $249.
Despite increased competition from big box stores and Internet retailers, 2015, 2016 and 2017 were three of the best years in Best Vac’s 41-year history. “We continue to offer quality products, competitive prices, and we service what we sell,” Ron said. The Internet is no longer a cheaper option. Internet retailers can no longer absorb paying for free shipping and paying the sales tax on Internet orders, so prices are increasing. Also, a number of companies are not allowing their products to be sold online in order to maintain the integrity of the product. With local firms like Best Vac, far more of your tax dollars remain in the area to support the community compared to big box or online companies. “A good vacuum is designed to last a long time,” Ron said. “Unlike some newer manufacturers that don’t even make parts for their vacuums, Best Vac supports and services all of the products we sell with our on-site experienced service technicians.” To find your perfect vacuum, visit vacguys.com or take a test drive at 2015 Dean St., Suite 3, in St. Charles.

DROP-IN PROGRAMS PROVIDE INTERACTIVE EXPERIENCE FOR ENTIRE FAMILY As your children are gobbling up their scrambled eggs or chugging their milk, they may not think twice about how their food goes from farm to table. But with a little help from Primrose Farm, they can learn about the process while being a part of it. Primrose Drop-In Programs give guests a behind-the-scenes experience of farm life circa 1930, as they help milk, groom and feed the farm animals. Offered five days a week through November, the Drop-In Programs welcome all ages to step back in time on this living history farm in St. Charles. “Participating in Drop-In Programs allows guests to learn first-hand where their food comes from,” said Alison Jones, Manager of Farm Programs and Interpretive Services. “It also provides a uniq un ique iq ue experience exp xper erie er ienc ie ncee to llearn nc earn ea rn h ow to to ca care re ffor or aand nd iinteract nter nt erac er actt wi ac with th tthe he fa farm rm aanimals nima ni mals ma ls tthat hatt ca ha callll P rimr ri mros mr osee os unique how Primrose home ho me.” me . .” home.” Teach your child how milk is produced through Hands-on Milking at 10am every Wednesday and Saturday. A staff member leads the group through the milking process and then turns it over to guests to milk 6-year-old Peanut – the only Jersey cow out of the seven who has had a calf this year, so therefore, is the only one producing milk. “We’ve had children as young at two years old milk Peanut,” Jones said. “It’s fun to see the excitement on their faces after they’ve been trying and then milk finally comes out.” Peanut will produce about 3 gallons a day, one gallon of which is given to her calf Ruthie, and at times the milk will be saved for other demonstrations such as butter making. But since Primrose is certified as an education-only dairy farm, the milk is not for human consumption. Similar to milk, the egg is another staple that children may take for granted. At 11am every Wednesday and Saturday, you can show your farmerin-training where eggs come from during the Chicken and Egg program. Guests can meet and pet the farm’s Columbian Wyandotte chickens, collect eggs straight from their nest and even take a handful home. Expect to be greeted by about 80 clucking black and white feathered friends as you enter the chicken
coop. But don’t worry, this flock is harmless. “The chickens are really friendly and don’t bite,” Jones said. “Many times I’ll pick up one of the chickens for the children to pet prior to going into the chicken coop, so they can see first-hand their friendly demeanor.” On a much larger scale, get up close and personal with the Belgian Draft horses Bob and Doc during Hold Your Horses at 2pm the first and third Saturday of every month. Be prepared to stand in awe at the magnitude of these gentle giants that weigh around 2,000 pounds and stand more than 7 feet high with their head raised. Learn proper grooming techniques and equine care practices including how to care for their hooves and teeth, and then work a brush through the blonde mane and tail of these two powerful yet mildmannered horses. The fee for Hands-on Milking, Chicken and Egg and Hold Your Horses is $5 for residents and $8 for nonresidents. Feeding opportunities abound on the farm as well. Grab a feeding stick to Feed the Chickens at 10am every Tuesday and Thursday, or Feed the Goats at 1pm every Monday and Wednesday. This fee is only $2 for residents and $4 for nonresidents. Or maximize your time during Feed the
Animals at 2pm every second and fourth Saturday of the month, when you’ll provide meals for the cows, chickens, sheep and goats, while learning about their nutritional needs. The fee for this program is $5 for residents and $8 for nonresidents. Primrose is located at 5N726 Crane Road in St. Charles. Register on site 15 minutes before your program begins. For more information, visit primrosefarmpark.com or contact Alison Jones at 630-513-4374.

A lifetime of finding the perfect flooring Family
Gary Titiner, owner
Gary Titiner grew up in the flooring business, working at his father’s store from the time he was a small child. After getting his degree in 1993, Titiner began working full-time for his father, learning all the aspects of the industry. When his father retired in 2010, Titiner started Family Flooring America. Family Flooring America is a full-service flooring store with an extensive selection of carpet, hardwood, ceramic & porcelain, LVT, paint, area rugs and window coverings. In addition, they offer installation on most all of their products. While the company is only eight years old, Titiner considers it to be built upon a 52-year family legacy of experience and knowledge. He said that he is in the flooring business because, quite simply, he loves it. “Every day provides new experiences with customers,” he said. “I love the fact that we help make our customers’ homes more beautiful.” As for having a store in St. Charles, Titiner said it was a no-brainer. “St. Charles & Geneva, in fact, the entire Fox River valley were always a good location for my father, and has been for me as well. The whole area is a place where people understand and appreciate excellent quality, in both product and service, and who know a great value when it is presented to them.” he said. Titiner believes that his business is unique in that it is a perfect marriage of large and small. First and foremost, it is a locally owned family business. “We care about the community because we live in it” he said. “There are many places you can buy flooring, but there is no other place that cares as much as we do. We live here and we work here. This is our community; this is our home!” At the same time, Family Flooring America is part of a 500+ store co-op that provides everything that a large-scale, national retailer
would want. With access to first-class marketing, advertising and training materials, he is able to effectively promote the business and train his staff. National pricing on his products allows him to pass on the savings to his customers, and not be the prey of the big box stores. As part of the larger co-op, the store can offer customers many programs that a small retailer would never have, such as the “Confidence Plus Warranty” that allows customers to replace their floor at no charge, even if it is because they simply don’t like it. Titiner said he realizes that for many people, picking out new flooring can be a very daunting task. Together, with his extremely talented and experienced staff, he promises they will continue to go out of their way to make the process as easy and as fun as possible. Titiner said that his secret to success really isn’t a secret. “It is simply exercising the long-proven practice of taking great care of customers and providing them with a great value,” he said. “At the end of the day, we want to give our customers great flooring at a great price, and an overall great value. We want to earn the fact that they came to us.” “We have a tagline here that we are very serious about—’Family Flooring America, Where Friends Send Friends,’” he said. “We know that if a customer will send their friend to us, that we have done our job well.”

S ’ T I ! E R E H The New 2019 Chevrolet Silverado is here! This Silverado features bold, distinctive styling, and broader dimensions – with eight trim levels including the Custom Trail Boss, which features a two-inch lift from the factory. All Silverados are built on a high strength steel foundation for safety and durability. They also include the Durabed cargo area – which is the most functional bed in the segment. There is also an enhanced trailering experience with this Silverado due to the availability of cameras, lighting, and advanced technologies. The 2019 Silverado HD has three special editions: Tribute, Midnight, and Custom Sport – each one with its own specific set of embellishments.
The 2019 Chevrolet Traverse has also had some refinements made to it. The RS model will offer all-wheel-drive capability paired with the 3.6L V6 engine, and Traverse LT leather adds available 8-passenger seating. There are also now going to be two ways to order LT leather. On Premier and High Country models, the standard heated steering wheel now “reads” the interior temperature of the vehicle, and then activates or deactivates automatically to help drivers keep comfortable in all temperatures. The 2019 Chevrolet Traverse has a bold and refined look, specifically in its prominent C-pillar and vertical front centerline. From the LT to the black-out and sporty RS or the premium High Country, Traverse offers a trim for just about any taste.
The Tribute model includes Z71 front door badges, flag-inspired decal along the sides, black bowties, chrome front and rear bumpers, and spray-on bed liner. The Midnight edition includes all-terrain tires, black Chevrolet bowties, body-color grille with chrome bars, body-color front and rear bumpers, 4-inch black tubular assist steps, and spray-on bed liner. The Custom version has front and rear park assist, body-color grille with chrome horizontal bars, spray-on bed liner, 20-inch polished aluminum wheels, and fog lamps. Additionally, key Silverado accessories for 2019 include a Realtree Bowtie, Carhart seat covers, a polished aluminum exhaust tip, and of course the very popular GM front and rear floor liners to name just a few.

peace 4 the journey Comforting support for those at the end of life & their loved ones The loss of a loved one is never easy, but Peace 4 The Journey founder Kathy Wetters and her team know that support, compassion and care can provide comfort and understanding to those in a time of need. Peace 4 The Journey is non-medical, holistic support for the dying and their family. Wetters and her staff are able to be a support to someone in their time of need. Her staff is trained to provide assistance with funeral plans, facilitate family meetings to discuss end of life issues and insure advanced directives are in place. Her staff has assisted in practical matters such as organizing volunteers in a support network to offer spiritual and practical care. Wetters is a certified End Of Life Doula and an education partner with Quality of Life Care. She is also a master trainer for AgeUcate Training Institute, bringing education programs to family caregivers, long-term care providers and first responders. Wetters was inspired to create Peace 4 The Journey through her experiences with Right at Home, which provides in-home senior care in the Fox Valley area as well as the western and southwest suburbs. During her 15 years with Right at Home, she has seen how many individuals faced the end of life alone, or were unable to express their final wishes and planning with family. She also witnessed how families sought more support during difficult times. With Peace 4 The Journey, Wetters and her team focus on walking alongside the dying
person and providing emotional support to the family. The aim is to increase compassion and companionship for those who are dying. Wetters and her team are able to help families to honor last wishes. For some, understanding a loved one’s wishes for care and treatment in their final days can be overwhelming, confusing and even frightening. Through Peace 4 The Journey a family can rely on someone to provide guidance and compassion. Wetters and her staff understand how to provide support to the family as they prepare and move into the transition from life to death and into a state of mourning. For many, an End Of Life Doula can provide the practical and emotional support to someone dying and their loved ones, providing assistance to create a more peaceful transition. An End Of Life Doula can provide gentle guidance, information on options and resources and spiritual support. An End of Life Doula can be a resource to listen and provide a soothing space, a caring touch. Peace 4 The Journey is based in Batavia, making it easy to access communities in the Fox Valley area and throughout Chicagoland. Services are provided as needed and available every day of the year. CONLEY OUTREACH: Caring for the heart of the community
W
hen people hear the name Conley, they think of the Conley Funeral Home in Elburn. Conley Outreach Community Services was, in fact, created over 25 years ago by funeral director Bruce Conley as a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing affordable bereavement aftercare counseling and support groups. But what many people don’t realize is that Conley Outreach provides much more in its effort “to care for the heart of community.” Its services fall into three types of programs: referral and advocacy, community based support and grief support. The West Towns Network provides fast and accurate information about affordable health and human services, as well as information about emergency financial services. From counseling to substance abuse, domestic violence, Hospice, senior services and disability programs, West Towns can help people find the help they need in a single phone call or visit. Over 500 families are assisted each year through this program. Our community services include four programs. The Community Care Team trains people in helping positions to be better listeners and how to recognize when a friend or neighbor might need professional help. Over six years ago, Conley Outreach opened the Good Samaritan Clothes closet in Sugar Grove to provide free clothing for families living in the Kaneland and Hinckley/Big Rock areas. Over 400 people receive clothing from the Closet each year. We also have partnered with six area churches to offer free hot meals each month for the Elburn Food Pantry patrons in our Monthly Meals Program. And finally, Conley Outreach helps needy families through three benevolence programs: Holiday Spirit (Christmas gifts and clothing), the Good Samaritan Fund (limited emergency financial services) SM-CL1588776

and by acting as the local Salvation Army Extension site. Last year over $28,000 was distributed to area residents through these programs. Our grief services include three free monthly adult support groups: a young widow/widowers group — Mourning After, Grieving Parent Support, and Grieving with Hope (a general group for adults grieving any death loss). These all meet on successive Thursdays in Room 10 of the Elburn Community Center and are led by licensed clinical social workers.
Serenity Falls
Conley Outreach is often called upon to provide crisis grief assistance when there is a death within a school, organization or business. Our staff works with the personnel and students to help them process what has happened and give them tools for handling the trauma and grief.
One of our most exciting grief programs is Good Grief Day Camp for children ages 6-12 who have lost a parent or sibling. The camp is filled with art projects, farm animals, drama, games and nature activities as well as time to share feelings and experiences. The week also includes a one-day “camp” for parents and a family program on the final day of camp. Campers return year after year to renew their friendships with kids and staff alike. Our “graduates” return as teen helpers, as they join the mission to help care for the heart of the community.

RON HAIN FOR KANE SHERIFF Innovative
Effective
Proven
“I have always been impressed with the high level of professionalism shown by Ron and I wholeheartedly endorse his bid to be the next Kane Country Sherriff ”
“The citizens of Kane County deserve better leadership for their Sheriff ’s Office. Ron Hain will provide that leadership. I endorse Hain for Kane County Sheriff ”
3-term Republican Sheriff Kenneth Ramsey
2-term Democratic Sheriff Patrick Perez
Ron Hain has served for over twenty years in law enforcement and public safety leadership, implementing new and innovative programs to effectively address concerns to our community. Throughout his career, Ron has refocused investigative efforts from low income communities to instead target large-scale drug trafficking organizations, funneling bulk amounts of heroin and other illicit drugs onto the streets of Kane County. This change in focus resulted in Kane County Sheriff’s Office seizing thousands of pounds of the narcotics responsible for 80 to 90 percent of our local crime. Meanwhile, Ron Hain has pioneered programs that have provided employment outreach to low income communities, and linked citizens with felony records to employers who were willing to hire them. Kane County faces serious concerns to our safety; to include a spiraling opioid epidemic, a rising violent crime rate, constant recidivism, and unaddressed child predators on the internet. Ron Hain is a proven leader who has developed new strategies to effectively serve the community. Vote for a candidate with a clearly communicated plan for a new future in Kane County’s public safety. Opioid Diversion Program: The Kane County Adult Corrections Center is a fusion center for the addicted population. Statistics show that as much as 87% of all arrestees taken into custody for any crime test positive for a narcotics. Ron Hain has a plan to begin treating substance abuse in the jail while putting the inmate to work to pay for their own rehabilitation and learn sustaining life skills. Heroin Eradication: The time is running out for implementation of fast, effective, out-of-the-box concepts to turn the tables on this rapidly increasing public safety concern. Ron Hain has stood up to drug trafficking organizations and their criminal attorneys on the streets and in the courtroom, and will lead the charge with the following initiatives: • Reinstatement of zero tolerance eradication through interstate trafficking interdiction programs • Partnering with local rehabilitative services for non-custodial, immediate referral • Work with County Board to enact local ordinances limiting the distribution amounts of prescription opioids • “Heroin Hotline” and multi-jurisdictional local law enforcement task force to facilitate anonymous reporting of heroin activity and immediate follow-up investigations Reducing Recidivism: Reducing Recidivism Kane County, like communities across the country, faces a high re-offending rate. Through diversion programs, we can create a dynamic correctional institution to set the example for the rest of the country to follow. By making these opportunities available to the 16th Judicial Circuit, we stand to dramatically reduce our recidivism and jail population: • Jobs Program Candidate Qualifications: Kane County resident, non-violent/non-sex crime offender • In-custody vocational training (OHSA certification, forklift certification, and skill sessions taught by local trade unions) • Skills-To-Jobs connection: as citizens return to the community, they’ll be linked with a local employer through an operational network I designed beginning in 2012 • Track re-entry activity to encourage assimilation and confirm overall success in returning to the community Internet Crimes Against Children: Child pornography and cyber-stalking remain one of the largest dangers to the children of Kane County. We need a proactive approach to identifying and apprehending child predators: • Reinstatement of a cyber crimes investigator and support staff • Cutting-edge training and databases to track and identify offenders • Networking with local investigators to establish a web of protection for our youth
Vote Ron Hain for Kane County Sheriff in the General Election this November 6th, 2018 for a better, safer Kane County. Get the plan at:

Open The Door To A Unique Shopping Experience Discover eclectic home décor, custom furnishings & architectural salvage at Little Red Barn Door By Aimee Barrows Blending old pieces with new is the hottest trend in home décor, and if you’re looking to add some unique touches to your space, Little Red Barn Door in Geneva is the place to go for original architectural salvage and other custom items. At the boutique, which is located in the historic Berry House on Third Street, you’ll find everything from candles, artwork, custom-made pillows, furniture and many other eclectic goods. The inventory is constantly changing, so the store is always updated with exclusive items. Owner Sylvia Torres, a St. Charles resident, opened the Little Red Barn Door in December of 2017, just in time for the holiday shopping season. She says that business has been good, which she attributes to the increased interest in customizing homes with one-of-a-kind décor, as well as the warm, personalized attention she gives each customer. “We like to keep current with the trends in our industry. We’re a small space, so keeping it fresh and new is important,” she explains. “A lot of people tell me my store is a nice addition to the area. My prices are reasonable and the store is very personable. I’m always here, so I get to know my customers.” Torres has always loved decorating and designing, but says she never thought she’d own a home décor boutique. She earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Northern Illinois University and later spent almost 20 years working in her family’s business, Legna Iron Works, where she was in charge of accounting, marketing and human resources.
But thanks to the encouragement of her family and friends, Torres decided it was time to leave the family company and pursue her passion. And because of her connections with the steel company, she’s able to bring vintage industrial pieces into her shop. Many of the items available in the store are also locally-made. “I’ve always felt I was creative and I love decorating,” she says. “People tell me that I have a good eye and I’m able to bring items together nicely. We are very fortunate to work with a great group of talented local small businesses that help us stock the shop with all the beautiful, unique items we carry.” Torres, who owns Little Red Barn Door with her husband Tony, initially began selling her unique pieces online. But the orders began coming in so quickly that Torres was spending a lot of time and money on packaging and shipping. It was then that she knew it was time to open a brick and mortar location.
“Her parents got married in that church, and she came in with a photo of her parents’ wedding, in that church with those pews in the background,” Torres remembers. “Just seeing how happy she was to be able to purchase something with so much meaning to her family was really cool.” Our biggest obstacle has been the lack of storage space; however, we’re setting up our warehouse which will include a showroom perfect for hosting shopping events, paint parties, classes and more,” she says. “I’d like to grow and learn from all our experiences during the first year in business so that we can become better. The ultimate goal over the next five years is to be a big part of Third Street and to be recognized in the industry.” Little Red Barn Door is located at 227 S. Third St., Suite 205, Geneva and is open TuesWed 10am-5pm, Thurs-Sat 10am-7pm & Sun 11am-5pm. Call (630) 402-0072 or email littleredbarndoor@comcast.net for more information, or visit the store’s Facebook page.
Once Torres decided to take the plunge, her next step was scouting an appropriate location for her store. Even though it’s small, Torres says the second-floor space fits right in with the other retailers in the Berry House. “We knew this type of shop needed to be in a special kind of area, and Third Street had everything we were looking for,” Torres says. “I felt that this type of store wouldn’t fit into a strip mall. When we came across the available space in the Berry House, we jumped at the opportunity.” And in the few months since Little Red Barn Door has been open, Torres has already experienced some special memories with her customers. She says that a customer was able to purchase a church pew from the Congregational Church of Batavia at the store.
I’ve always felt I was creative and I love decorating. People tell me that I have a good eye and I’m able to bring items together nicely. We are very fortunate to work with a great group of talented local small businesses that help us stock the shop with all the beautiful, unique items we carry.

We Move People 6 Years/72,000 Miles Transferable Bumper-to-Bumper Limited Warranty
T
he goal of the Fox Valley Auto Group, Fox Valley Volkswagen St. Charles, Fox Valley Volkswagen Schaumburg and Fox Valley Buick GMC St. Charles is to sell and service new Volkswagen, Buick and GMC vehicles and all makes and models of pre-driven vehicles.
Abinion began selling vehicles to help pay for college and fell in love with the business. His first dealership was Landmark Ford in Niles, IL for 16 years. Vice President, Pre-driven Vehicle
Their focus toward providing superior customer service and excellent ownership experience has allowed Fox Valley Auto Group to expand over the years.
Their mission is to move people. But this is not about selling their customers a vehicle and repairing the ones they already have. It is about much more than that and it is certainly much more than two simple words. They want everyone who is in contact with their team members every day to be MOVED. Moved in many ways, but always for the better — better than before their engagement with them — whether it is financially, spiritually, emotionally as well as professionally.
Emir Abinion, Founder, President & CEO, Fox Valley Auto Group
“We want to move people to a better place in their lives just by dealing and working with us,” said founder, President and CEO Emir Abinion. “Imagine the impact we can have on people’s lives with this as our focus. This is what it truly means to be of service.”
Director and Partner Shakeel Omar, operated a successful pre-driven automotive retail store in Chicago, IL for over 16 years. Long-time friends, Abinion and Omar met when they were selling cars together at Golf Mill Ford in the mid-1980s.
Page 14 • Insight • October 2018 | Special Advertising Section
Abinion added a new Volkswagen dealership in West Chicago in 2006, which in 2016 moved and expanded to a 40,000 square-foot facility in St. Charles. Fox Valley Volkswagen Schaumburg opened in 2008 and recently underwent a significant remodel both inside and out to enhance the customer experience. Fox Valley Buick GMC of St. Charles opened in 2011.
In 2016, Frank Butnaru, who worked for Abinion in sales at Landmark Ford, was named as a second partner and is the General Manager of the Volkswagen dealership in Schaumburg. The two are long-time friends, as well.
In 2012, Volkswagen awarded Abinion the Volkswagen Diamond Pin Award, a recognition bestowed on only four dealers in North America and 70 Volkswagen dealers world-wide, for their overall commitment to the brand and its customers. They were again recognized in 2015 with membership in Volkswagen’s Customer First Club. This accolade recognizes the dealership as a top performer in customer satisfaction on a national level. The two things that drive Abinion are finding ways to make it better and more convenient for the dealerships’ customers to do business with them, and how can they serve the community better. Fox Valley Auto Group has three locations and approximately 160 employees. Together, Fox Valley Auto Group sells about 5,000 vehicles and services over 54,000 vehicles annually. Abinion said the secret to his dealerships’ success is to treat people like he would want to be treated and to be a value through service to his customers and community. “This comes first before any vehicle is sold or serviced,” he said.

In 1986, the Austins moved their shop to its current location on Wheeler Road. Their business continued to grow, along with their family of eight children. The location presents easy access to several area studios and schools. Working out of their home also gave Patricia the opportunity to be close to her children while teaching full time. Dana converted the garage into a working shop for meeting with customers, as well as for luthier services. Upon Dana’s passing in 1994, Patricia took over the violin shop and gradually transitioned from full-time teaching to running the shop. The Austin’s oldest daughter, Honna, currently provides lessons in the studio two days a week, as well as at a large strings studio in Batavia. Daughter Holly graduated from the violin-making school and is now a luthier at the shop, and son Joel aspires to become a luthier.

Critter Sitters Loving care for your pet, and so much more Sandy Hafenbrack started Critter Sitters almost 30 years ago after rescuing a kitten at her back door. Since then she has built her firm into the professional pet sitting service you can count on. To Sandy, this is not just her work, it’s her passion. Whether dog, cat, rabbit, bird, fish or backyard chicken, Critter Sitters will treat your pets as their own. Not only will they walk and feed them, clean the litter box, give shots and pills and call you when pets are sick, but they will also take in mail, water plants and be sure the house is secure and neat. They’ve even been known to deal with a burst water pipe and a fire. They take pains to communicate well with owners the way the owners want. For re-assurance, Sandy texts, and posts photos of pets on Facebook. She understands the fear of a stranger in your home. Trust has to be earned. Thousands of customers over the years are her best references. See reviews on the website and Facebook. Critter Sitters serves North Aurora, Aurora, Montgomery, Yorkville, Sugar Grove, Elburn, Kaneville and Maple Park. Sandy would like to expand into other areas, but needs more sitters. “
Our cat Barney was diagnosed with diabetes so we needed to find someone to take care of him while we travel. I did my research and came across Critter Sitters. We went on a quick getaway feeling a wee bit nervous, but Sandy’s daily pictures of Barney and his glucose score eased our minds. We came home to a daily journal of Barney. We now have a person we trust to take great care of our boy. If we could give her a 10-star rating we would!
”
- Vonda Phillips, Sugar Grove
Here’s a glimpse of a day in the life. Riley, the retriever mix didn’t know what to make of Sandy when the pet sitter first entered the house to take her for a walk. She sat in the corner of the laundry room and just watched and listened as Sandy talked to her and offered her treats as a way of earning her trust. The patience and coaxing must have worked, because 20 minutes later Riley was giving Sandy kisses as they prepared for their walk. “Pet sitting gives so much satisfaction. You rub dogs’ bellies, get kisses and hear kittens purr. What you get in return is 10 times greater than what you give,” she said. Sandy hires carefully. All sitters are background-checked. To join the team, contact her today. “If I wouldn’t have them in my home, I won’t send them in a client’s home,” she said. “So if you want your pet to be lovingly cared for, we’re the company you should call,” Sandy said.
HELP WANTED Looking for a fun job where you get exercise, rub dogs’ bellies and are appreciated?
Now hiring pet sitters! Due to our growth we need to add more pet sitters. You must have a deep love for animals, be dedicated, observant, detailoriented and communicate well. Will train. Call Sandy (630) 844-9554. Insight • October 2018 | Special Advertising Section • Page 17

his return from the Navy in World War II, the business began as one of the first distributors of the Thulman wood burning fireplace. When Thulman turned into the Majestic Fireplace Company, the business took the name Majestic Distributing. Originally a strictly wholesale company selling the Majestic Fireplace to builders and heating contractors, we opened our first retail outlet in 1963—and House of Fireplaces was born. Kevin, who started at the bottom sweeping the warehouse after school as a kid, worked summers and winters while going to school. He started working full time shortly after graduating college with a degree in business
administration, and took over showroom operations in 2010. “We have been selling fireplaces since the very beginning of the air-cooled prefabricated fireplace,” Kevin said. “We have seen the industry go from one manufacturer to hundreds, from three fireplace choices to thousands. Throughout this evolution, we have continued to adapt to the changing tastes by adding more options, brands and choices for the customer.” We offer the best fireplaces, and with the most knowledgeable employees, the best possible customer service before and after the sale. We go the extra mile in customer service. One of our funniest and most memorable experiences happened when a customer came in with his wife to look at gas logs. He really liked the gas grills, but she was not interested in the grills. So they looked at log sets and left. A couple days later, the wife returned, saying she would
like to buy the grill for her husband as a surprise birthday present. She bought the grill and asked us to hold it until they came back for a log set. Later that week, the husband returned by himself and said he would like to buy the grill without his wife knowing about it. Somehow, we managed to hold him off on buying the grill. It ended up being a great surprise for him when they came in to get the gas log set, and he saw the grill with a big bow on it. Looking ahead, we are excited to discover how the fireplace industry will change and what new things there will be. We would like to see an increase in our in-house manufactured products, perhaps including a millwork shop for in-house custom mantels or a metal shop for high quality chase tops.

to lead an exceptional team at Modern Dentistry which has separated them from other dentist who offer implants. Modern Dentistry is a pioneer in several techniques, both clinically and in the dental laboratory. Their methods and product are used by skilled implantologists around the country.
The team at Modern Dentistry in Sugar Grove and Yorkville intends to become the largest provider of dental implants in Chicagoland. Based on their progress so far, they are well on their way to achieving that goal. Modern Dentistry was opened in 2001 and serves Yorkville, Sugar Grove and the surrounding areas. The Sugar Grove location was opened in 2007 as a center for dental implant and sedation therapy. While both offices meed the general dentistry needs of the community, they are one of the few dental providers in Chicagoland to offer comprehensive dental implant therapy for patients who are missing teeth, and intravenous sedation for patients who are afraid of dentists and dental procedures. Dr. Joseph Kim graduated from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry and has since received his fellowships from the Academy of General Dentistry and the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. In addition to is formal education, his experience acting as the implant course director for multiple implant companies has equipped him Page 24 • Insight • October 2018 | Special Advertising Section
As the first implantologist in the United States to offer the LeClerq-Martinez implant bridge, Dr. Kim has made it his goal to make denture replacement a realistic option for patients who have been suffering from loose and ill-fitting dentures. Many patients have never been given the option of replacing their removable dentures with dental implants, as most dentists do not provide full arch, non-removable dental implant solutions. Those that do often rely upon the minimal mechanical requirements relegating their patients to expensive repairs and replacements. While denture replacement can be expensive, the benefits are worth it. Biologically, dental implants can help prevent bone loss, thus minimizing disfiguring defects in the jaw and face. Functionally, patients can eat the foods that they
used to enjoy, such as salads, corn on the cob, fresh fruits and vegetables, and other nutritious meals. Their speech often improves due to having stable teeth again. Their self-confidence rises, as they don’t have to worry about embarrassing situations due to loose dentures. Dr. Kim also started his own dental laboratory in order to keep costs down. While some clinicians are charging over $50,000 for a single arch of dental implant restorations, Modern Dentistry is able to offer an even better solution of almost half the price. The team at Modern Dentistry is not only cost-conscious, they are conscious of the impact their services have on their patients. “Whenever we change a patient’s smile, we affect their self confidence, their health, and their overall happiness,” Dr. Kim said, “Our profession is truly rewarding to our patients and to us as providers. We understand that we are working with people, not just teeth.” That focus on the person is what has driven Modern Dentistry to continue to innovate, continue to focus on ways to better serve their patients, and it comes through in the way they treat everyone who enters their doors.
