JOLIET – Have no fear, cupcake, strudel and potica lovers.

Following complaints from home bakers that the county health department has been “cracking down on them” for violating state law, the Joliet City Council’s Land Use and Legislative Committee recommended Wednesday the city adopt a so-called “Cupcake Law.” The law would allow home-based bakery operations to sell goods for a profit.

“The health department’s exact quote to me was: ‘If you want to bake something in your house [to sell], you will get in trouble because you don’t have the Cupcake Law in this municipality,’” Georgene Williams, a Joliet nurse and home baker, said at the committee meeting.

State legislation – signed earlier this year by Gov. Pat Quinn – prohibits people from making baked goods in their homes unless the municipality the baker resides in adopts the “Cupcake Law.” The bill was introduced after a young girl’s baking operation in Troy was shut down by health officials.

City Council members could adopt the law at their meeting next week.

If adopted, bakers such as Sandy Gregorash and Linda Moffitt can continue baking poticas – a Slovenian holiday tradition – from their own kitchens, just as they’ve done for the past several decades. For health and safety reasons, the law allows for health department oversight if there is a complaint or health-related issue.

Plainfield residents demand answers concerning Stratton

By VIKAAS SHANKER vshanker@shawmedia.com PLAINFIELD – Residents wanted an explanation Wednesday on the move by the Plainfield Fire Protection District to put Deputy Chief Jon Stratton on administrative leave.

They didn’t get one.

Fire district trustees convened their regular meeting Wednesday night without Stratton, who was in plain clothes in the audience. More than 50 residents, employees and local elected officials attended the normally quiet meeting.

Stratton was put on administrative leave on Oct. 1.

He said he couldn’t comment on the move, but several residents believe Stratton should be working.

Chief John Eichelberger and other officials have also, so far declined to comment on why Stratton was dismissed, saying the issue is personnel

related.

Board President William Barnes wouldn’t comment on why Stratton was put on leave.

But he said Wednesday that lawyers for the two sides are still in talks.

The board attorney addressed the residents at a special board meeting on Oct. 9.

That meeting included several residents’ public comments expressing support for Stratton.

During public comments at Wednesday’s meeting, residents expressed their frustration and support for Stratton.

“You owe a justification to people,” resident Vicky Polito said, reminding the board of its responsibility to constituents. “You can’t just say you’re not going to talk about it.”

After public comments, the trustees went through the agenda items, noticeably skipping Stratton’s report on training updates and specialty teams update.

After a couple residents called out the board for skipping the item, President William Barnes said, “No report.”

Several residents who didn’t comment also were upset that no answers were being given.

“I’ve known Jon and worked with him in different dealings,” resident David Kaleta said. “No one knows what’s going on. We’d like to know why.”

Resident Butch Lafido said Stratton would help people in the community out even when it wasn’t related to a fire.

“He really helped us out at the Plainfield Interfaith Food Pantry,” Lafido said.

Plainfield village Trustee Margie Bonuchi said it was unusual for a public board to not know the facts about the personnel decision two weeks after Stratton was put on leave.

“Stratton is such a good man,” she said. “He’s the face of the Plainfield Fire Protection District.”

mentor2.0 program launches in Joliet High School District 204

By FELIX SARVER fsarver@shawmedia.com JOLIET – Ariana Zasada hopes to one day play softball and be an athletic trainer after high school.

A mentor could help the Joliet high school sophomore achieve those goals. On Wednesday, Zasada, 15, met her mentor Beth Hughes for the first time.

Hughes, Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center chief executive officer, took on the role when she decided to be part of the mentor2.0 pilot program.

Zasada said she hopes her mentor will help her with math, give her advice on studying and prepare her for life after high school.

“I hope to be ready for college,” she said.

That’s the hope leaders and mentors with the mentor2.0 program have for all students who participate, especially those from low-income communities. The program is the result of a partnership between Joliet Township High School District 204, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Will and Grundy counties and New York-based iMentor.

One of several financial supporters for the program included AT&T, which provided a $75,000 donation.

The program had its kickoff Wednesday at Joliet West High School, where students met with their mentors for the first time in person. Fifty sophomore students from West and Central campus were matched with a mentor from local businesses and industries to help them in their high school career.

Zasada’s mentor Hughes said she wanted to participate to help students and because the program was designed in a way that was manageable for her.

“I would love to influence a young man or woman to go to college,” she said.

According to iMentor, 8,000 students have been provided mentors since 1999 and 69 percent of iMentor graduates enrolled in college in 2012.

“Anecdotally and in the data, we’ve seen it go really well,” Mela said.

Participating students who are low-income and first in their families to potentially attend college are more likely to graduate in high school, enroll in college and ultimately earn their degree, according to iMentor.

At Wednesday’s kickoff, McCarthy encouraged the stu-

dents to become mentors in their life so the program can grow.

“We think how in the world we can give 6,000 students mentors? Well that starts with you guys,” she said.

Sophomore Robert Lopez met his mentor Alfredo Melesio, Joliet city neighborhood services director. Lopez, who aspires to be a mechanic, said he struggles with math and he hopes Melesio will help him.

Melesio said he’s looking forward to being his mentor.

“I think he’s got a lot on his plate and we’ll just see what happens day-to-day,” he said.

By BOB OKON bokon@shawmedia.com JOLIET – The terra cotta renovations at the Rialto Square Theatre have been delayed again, and Mike Biedron is beginning to worry about June brides.

Biedron is the building operations manager at the Rialto. He oversees the $2.2 million project to restore terra cotta on the building exterior. He also hears from brides who are not happy about the scaffolding that surrounds the Rialto on their wedding days, making photo opportunities not quite what they would like.

Weddings are a big business for the Rialto in June, July and August, and Biedron would like to see the scaffolding gone by then.

“We’ve had a lot of brides that have been very vocal about their displeasure,” Biedron said Wednesday.

The scaffolding has been up

for a little less than a year so far, meaning it was there for weddings this past summer.

The Rialto has discounted weddings because of the scaffolding.

The project was to be done by mid-November, but was delayed on the manufacturing end to line up terra cotta that matched the color already on the Rialto walls.

All the parapet is being replaced. But terra cotta sections of the Rialto walls are only being replaced where needed.

The terra cotta has begun to arrive from a manufacturer in England. But not enough pieces have come in.

“It was my understanding that the second delivery was supposed to be several hundred pieces,” Biedron said Wednesday. “When it came in today, there were about 50 pieces.”

What’s worse, Biedron said, is that the contractor, Bulley & Andrews Masonry Restoration, tells him the

pieces have come in the wrong order, so the parts needed to start installation have not arrived.

Biedron said he has called for a meeting with the contractor next week to determine if the job can still be done by summer.

Besides June, there’s December, January and February to worry about.

“Weather is definitely going to be a factor,” Biedron said. “They can’t actually work when the temperature reaches the 32-degree mark. At that point, the mortar freezes.”

But for the manufacturing delay, Biedron said, the terra cotta would have arrived months ago and installation would have occurred through the summer. Now, Biedron hopes there is enough time in the spring to finish the job before the June brides arrive.

“That,” he said, “is what we’re going to find out at the meeting next week.”

PLAINFIELD – Sen. Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant, D-Shorewood, has selected Plainfield resident Rob Ayres as the sixth Plainfield Township Park District commissioner.

Ayres, president of the Plainfield Soccer Association, was at odds with the former park district leadership and at one point ac- Rob cused officials Ayres of authorizing a break-in at soccer sheds.

The park leadership has since changed, and Ayres’ appointment is made possible by state legislation aimed at restructuring the park board.

“I am pleased to announce Rob as the newest member of the Plainfield park board,” Bertino-Tarrant said in a news release.

“I believe Rob’s experience and community involvement make him a wonderful addition to the management of our park district.”

Board President Mary Kay Ludemann said Ayres is scheduled to be sworn in at the park district’s Nov. 12 meeting.

“I think it’s great to have him on the board,” Ludemann said. “He’ll bring a lot of knowledge about budgeting and finances from his background as an accountant.”

“I’m incredibly excited to begin working with the Plainfield park board in this capacity and help get them back on track,” Ayres said in the release. “I am eager to get to work and help move our park district forward.”

Bertino-Tarrant and Rep. Tom Cross, R-Oswego, were charged to each make appointments to the park district board because of a new law that increased the size of

the board from five to seven commissioners.

The law is a reaction from public outrage over several questionable hiring decisions by the former board majority and a corruption scandal involving a commissioner.

One of the controversies involved Ayres, who earlier this year accused former park district Executive Director Garrett Peck and former board President Peter Hurtado of involvement in a break-in of soccer league sheds. A police investigation left the matter unresolved.

Bertino-Tarrant, Cross and Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, were co-sponsors of the bill, which passed the House and Senate floors with strong majority votes.

Gov. Pat Quinn signed the bill into law on Aug. 15.

Cross said he has interviewed five candidates and will interview more for the appointment.

“We’re getting more names than I thought,” Cross said. “We hope to have a selection in the next few weeks.”

Bertino-Tarrant formed a committee in late August to narrow down commissioner candidates to two people.

Bertino-Tarrant picked one of the finalists, Ayres.

Ayres has attended almost every park board meeting since the summer of 2013, and was vocal to the board in March when equipment went missing from the soccer organization’s shed on park district property, and discussed unprecedented issues it had with reserving fields.

“I definitely think that helps,” Commissioner Larry Newton said, adding that Ayres has a lot of experience with the park district. “His interaction with staff since he got involved is only going to help him with his work on the board. It’s not like we need to bring him up to speed on who to speak to.”

Joliet will do more roadside safety checks

By BRIAN STANLEY bstanley@shawmedia.com JOLIET – Police have received a grant to operate roadside safety checkpoints on weekends for the next year.

The grant means more roadside safety checks in Joliet. The police plan to do at least one a month.

Joliet Police Chief Brian Benton said the Illinois De-

partment of Transportation grant provides overtime pay for officers to target drunk drivers though seat belt, child seat, cell phone, insurance or other driving violations can be ticketed.

“The focus of these grants, which we apply for annually, is alcohol enforcement,” Benton said.

Person killed when hit by Metra train Wednesday

Wednesday.

The incident happened on the Rock Island line between the Tinley Park 80th Avenue Station and Mokena Hickory Creek Station, said Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile.

The train had left Chicago at 4:10 p.m. and was due in Joliet at 5:24 p.m.

The person was hit at a site east of 183rd Street, Reile said.

State liquor commission cites Joliet businesses The HERALD–NEWS JOLIET – The Illinois Liquor Control Commission has cited five Joliet establishments for selling alcohol to minors.

Compliance checks were done Oct. 9 in Joliet, according to a news release from the commission.

The commission said people under 21 bought alcohol at Consumer Food & Liquor, 1134 Plainfield Road; JM Tobacco And Liquor, 3111 Theo-

dore St.; Liquor Express, 1415 Plainfield Road; Stang Kelly, 712 Jefferson St.; and Hammers Sports Bar, 2771 Black Road.

The commission reports this is the second time Stang Kelly and Hammers have failed the compliance check in the past five years.

Thursday’s check was conducted by the Illinois Secretary of State Police, who also found 11 businesses where minors were asked for ID and refused sale.

NEW LENOX – The New Lenox Community Emergency Response Team will be one of 11 teams competing Saturday in the fifth Annual Prairie State CERT Challenge.

The annual event is organized by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency and is hosted this year by the DuPage County office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

Teams have to 30 to 45 minutes to complete tasks at eight different stations. The challenge includes activities that test the ability to treat people with injuries, search for

victims trapped in debris, and gather information at disaster sites.

This is the fifth time that New Lenox has participated in the event. The public can follow the event Saturday on Twitter at #ILCERTChallenge.

It’s been fodder for jokes for years, but a prostate exam is no laughing matter.

Men’s screening for prostate cancer is one of the most important tests a man should have, but Dr. Sarode Pundaleeka, hematology and oncology physician at Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center, in Joliet, says that more than 50 percent of men avoid it.

“Men are stoic by nature,” Pundaleeka said. “They don’t worry about their health when occupied with other priorities.

Also, it’s not the most pleasant test, but men should not neglect themselves.”

As men age the prostate grows, creating pressure on the urethra causing increased frequency of urination and urgency.

“Rarely will you have any bleeding from prostate cancer,” Pundaleeka said. “That is why you have to have a screening done. It’s a silent disease.”

Screening also involves a PSA blood test. Physical

changes plus a high PSA reading (over 4) call for a biopsy, Pundaleeka said.

Pundaleeka recommends having a prostate exam yearly beginning at 50. If family members had prostate cancer at a younger age, screening should begin 10 years earlier than their diagnosis.

More than 20 to 30 percent of prostates examined after age 90 are cancerous, Pundaleeka said.

“It is so slow growing you’re more likely to die from other causes, so you don’t need screening, he added. At 70 a patient with slow growing cancer doesn’t have to worry until there are physical changes.

However, if PSA results double or quadruple within a year, don’t wait, Pundaleeka said.

“We should screen younger patients 50 to 70 because that’s the population that can have an aggressive cancer.”

3 recent arrests made in alleged sex crimes

By BRIAN STANLEY bstanley@shawmedia.com JOLIET – Police have arrested three men in unrelated sex cases over the last week.

The first incident reportedly occurred around 3 a.m. Friday at a 22-year-old woman’s apartment. The victim told police she and Willis L. Jones, 26, were in a dating relationship over the summer and agreed to meet Thursday night, according to Capt. Tab Jensen.

“They went to the Wal-Mart on Jefferson Street and argued, but after she returned home he came over and they fought again,” Jensen said. The woman accused Jones of sexual assault.

“Once he left the apartment, she called police and officers found him walking nearby,” Jensen said. Jones, of the 500 block of South Joliet Street, was booked into the Will County jail on charges of criminal sexual assault, unlawful restraint and domestic battery. He is being held on $50,000 bond.

At 10:45 p.m. Saturday, an officer was on patrol downtown when he found Jeffrey T. Wibiral, 36, holding a 46-year-old woman against the wall of an alley off the 100 block of Ottawa Street, Jensen said.

biral’s pants were unzipped,” Jensen noted.

The victim told police she and Wibiral had hung out with some other people outside the Joliet Public Library when Wibiral accused her of stealing $20 from him.

During the argument, Wibiral allegedly held the woman down on the ground and said he was going to rape her, according to Jensen.

Wibiral was arrested on a charge of attempted criminal sexual assault, which is prosecuted as criminal sexual assault and resisting arrest. He is being held in the county jail on $25,000 bond.

Finally, Terry C. James, 29, of the 16400 block of Club Court in Crest Hill, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of criminal sexual abuse.

Det. Scott Nicodemus said police were called at 6:37 a.m. about “a suspicious vehicle” near Allen and Des Plaines streets and arrived to find a black Nissan parked between two semitrailers.

“James and a 15-year-old girl were in the vehicle and officers believed a sexual act was occurring. They were interviewed at the police station, where investigators learned they’d been in an ongoing relationship,” Nicodemus said.

Plans for the Edgewater subdivision southeast of River Road and Highland Drive, and the Towne Center subdivision near Village Hall fell stagnant during the economic collapse, Mayor Rick Chapman said.

But developers Ryland Homes and Ryan Homes will finish them.

“The previous developer for Edgewater had gone into default,” Chapman said. “It’s

partially developed, been laying there unfinished for 10 years.”

In addition to the final plat, the Village Board approved a conditional use permit for the Edgewater development, allowing a reduction in lot width to 70 feet. The minimum size for two-story homes was reduced to 2,000 square feet.

The original plan for the unfinished portion of the subdivision included 74 lots, but the revised plan includes 86 lots.

Ryan Homes is installing a modified “neo-traditional” neighborhood in the Towne Center property for senior residents and “empty nesters,” Chapman said.

ty’s original developers had gone into default.

The Village Board also passed a conditional use permit allowing for the elimination of an alleyway to permit front-loading garages.

The neighborhood will contain up to 30 lots, along with 36 additional single-family lots.

The village also approved agreements for federal participation in the $1.7 million Black Road resurfacing project from River Road to Interstate 55, and an additional Class J liquor license for Le Petite Nails to allow the sale of beer and wine in the establishment. Last year, the board approved the same allowance for Star Nails.

Judge rules Gempel search admissible

By LAUREN LEONE–CROSS lleonecross@shawmedia.com JOLIET – Police acted in good faith when they executed a search warrant in the home of a Crest Hill man accused of killing his elderly neighbor and setting her house on fire in November 2012, a Will County judge ruled Wednesday.

statements made by Gempel while in police custody.

Earlier this month, Livas ruled that Gempel’s statements should be thrown out because the arrest was made without probable cause and nothing changed in the hours before he gave some incriminating statements to make them admissible as evidence.

Defense attorney Kristine Honiotes quickly filed a motion to reconsider Wednesday after Livas denied her request to quash the evidence.

A hearing is set for Thursday.

The Will County State’s Attorney’s office plans to appeal Livas’ decision to suppress those statements, arguing police had intervening probable cause to arrest him.

OBITUARIES GERALDINE A. AUSTIN Geraldine “Gerry” A. Austin, nee Stephen, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 13, 2014.

Born in Joliet to Frederick and Loretta (Baker) Stephen, she was a graduate of St. Francis Academy. Early in her adult life she was employed by the Joliet Arsenal and later she worked as a part-time real estate agent for the Hensel Agency. She also worked for Joliet Public Schools District 86 and the Will County Circuit Clerk’s office, from which she retired. But most of Gerry’s life was devoted to her family, raising seven children, traveling the world with them, and always ready for a good game of cards.

She was the loving mother of William III (Vickie) of Wheaton; Janet (Pat) McCann of Wilmette; Thomas of Phoenix; Mary Pat (the late Steve) Allmandinger of Walcott, Iowa; James (Barbara) of Indianapolis; Judy (Rick) Short of Shorewood; and Michael of Chicago. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Austin, Jr. (2008); her parents; and her sister, Mary Louise Schwartz.

DOROTHY F. FITZGERALD Dorothy F. Fitzgerald, nee Laris, age 96, late of Lockport, passed away peacefully, Sunday, October 10, 2014, at Lemont Care Center.

Born in Minonk, IL, living in the Lawrenceville/ Whitehall, IL, area until she married Edwin Fitzgerald in 1946. They relocated to the Oil Fields in Salem, IL, until Edwin was transferred to Texaco Oil Refinery in 1950 and lived in Lockport since 1950.

Dorothy and Edwin were one of the Founders of the Joliet Bow Hunters Incorporated (Joliet Archery Club) in 1957, where Dorothy served as secretary for many years. She was an avid Archer and hunted deer and bear with bow and arrow, taking five deer. She also loved to fish, mostly in Canada and Wisconsin and was most proud of her 5lb walleye she caught in Canada.

Preceded in death by her loving husband, Edwin (2004); her parents, John and Mary Rose (Stalets) Laris; brothers, Clarence and Walter Laris; and a sister, Josephine Lansaw.

Survived by numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends, especially her longtime caregivers and

friends, Dan and Sharon Tully; her most recent home caregiver of four years, Mary Ellen Glaros and longtime and loyal friend, Bob Svboda.

By JIM SUHR The Associated Press ST. LOUIS – Amid growing expectations of record U.S. corn and soybean yields this year, farmers in Illinois and other Midwestern states are struggling to bring the crops in from the fields.

Nagging stormy weather continues to turn the ritual of harvesting into a sputter in much of the nation’s midsection. The U.S. Department of Agriculture said Tuesday that among the 18 states that produce most of the country’s corn, just 24 percent has been brought in. That’s barely more than half the average pace over the past five years and up just 7 percent over the past week.

Just 35 percent of the Illi-

nois crop has been cut, short of the pace of the previous five years when more than half of the harvest has been done by this time. Some 44 percent of the corn is in Missouri and 10 percent has been harvested in Iowa, in both states more than 20 percentage points off the traditional pace.

Some 40 percent of the nation’s soybean crop has been cut, at a time when more than half of the job was done most other recent years. Illinois’ soybean harvest was at 29 percent, Iowa 39 percent and Missouri’s 16 percent when for many of those states more than half of the crop would have been brought in by now.

“We won’t be able to get to the field this week even if it stopped raining today. We haven’t even started soybeans, but we’ve got plenty of time.”

Mike Campbell Farmer to have most of his soybeans harvested and about half of his corn acreage cleared. But with his muddy fields and prospects of rain not expected to clear out by Thursday, giving way to potentially drier weather, Asbell spent Wednesday waiting.

“It’s been nap time,” said Asbell, 43. “We’d been going pretty hard for a couple of weeks, so a little down time doesn’t hurt. But it’s just too wet to do much of anything.

It’ll be muddy and messy out there.”

He isn’t sweating it, acknowledging that some years his harvesting has had him in the fields in mid-December, freeing ice from his combine along the way.

“So far, it just looks like I won’t be on Halloween duty this year,” he said, laughing.

“It’s just one of those years.”

Concerns about the sluggish harvest often are tempered by the fact that today’s behemoth combines can make up lost ground. But the recent moisture and cooler-than-normal conditions can drive up

the cost of drying the grain and create backlogs at grain elevators as they try to accommodate so many farmers suddenly playing catch up.

Mucky fields also leave harvesting machines vulnerable to getting stuck or cutting deep ruts that could become standing pools of water.

Near southwestern Illinois’ Edwardsville, Mike Campbell says he finished harvesting his 215 acres of corn last week but has been stymied by rain in trying to cut his 400 acres of soybeans.

“We won’t be able to get to the field this week even if it stopped raining today,” Campbell, 65, said while gloomy skies lingered over the region. “We haven’t even started soybeans, but we’ve got plenty of time.”

Governor race shattering campaign finance records

CHICAGO – The heated race for Illinois governor is shattering state records for campaign fundraising and spending.

State filings show Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn and Republican Bruce Rauner have had at least $58 million to spend on the general election so far.

That’s about $20 million more than Quinn and Republican Bill Brady spent on the 2010 general election.

Kent Redfield is a campaign finance expert who compiles and analyzes the data. He said the increased spending is a sign of intense national interest.

Republicans see the blue state as a big prize in the Nov. 4 election. Redfield said Rauner’s anti-union positions also have energized organized labor, which has contributed millions to Quinn.

Candidates face a Wednesday deadline to file campaign finance reports for the most recent quarter.

Officials exploring Rockford jet facility funding

ROCKFORD – A Thursday groundbreaking ceremony is planned for a $43 million jet repair facility at Rockford International Airport even as officials continue sorting out how to pay for the project.

The state of Illinois has committed $15 million for construction and airport officials are looking for $10 million in federal funds. Officials say the project will create at least 500 jobs. They also hope the new maintenance, repair and overhaul facility will attract more flight-related business, development and jobs in the area.

Airport Director Mike Dunn told the Rockford Register Star he expects airport commissioners to consider an agreement finalizing financial plans within the next 30 days. The airport, Rockford and Winnebago County will share the rest of the project cost if it’s approved by officials within all three entities.

Waukegan teachers strike enters 8th school day

WAUKEGAN – Waukegan’s approximately 17,000 students are out of class for an eighth school day as the district and teachers

union remain apart in contract negotiations.

Classes are canceled Wednesday in Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60. The two sides said in a joint statement they are closer to reaching an agreement after negotiating for most of the day Tuesday.

The Lake County Federation of Teachers president says the teachers are seeking 6 percent yearly pay raises for three years.

He said the board’s offer Tuesday night included raises of 3 percent a year over two years.

Illinois employers post 212K job ads in September

CHICAGO – Illinois businesses placed more than 212,000 “help

wanted” ads online in September. Most of the ads were seeking full-time workers.

The Illinois Department of Employment Security said Tuesday the leading metropolitan areas where there were jobs being advertised were Chicago, Bloomington/Peoria, Decatur/ Springfield and Rockford. The information comes from the Conference Board, an independent business membership and research group.

Woman fired for throwing knife files lawsuit

CHICAGO – A Chicago woman who contends she didn’t deserve to be fired from her job at a fried chicken restaurant for throwing

a bread knife at an unruly teenage customer has filed a lawsuit against the restaurant chain.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported that Sherita Harrison alleges in her $200,000 federal lawsuit that Popeye’s Chicken violated her Second Amendment rights to arm herself and her civil rights by firing her.

The 30-year-old Harrison admitted she threw the knife but said she was acting in self-defense when a group of teens spit at her and threatened her to jump over the counter and kill her.

Franchise owner Ed Obiala said there is no excuse for throwing a knife at a customer and he had no choice but to fire Harrison.

NATION BRIEF Speaker questions Utah’s campus gun laws SALT LAKE CITY – Utah’s campus gun laws are in the spotlight after a feminist speaker canceled a speech at Utah State University once she learned the school would allow concealed firearms despite an anonymous threat to kill her and others in a mass shooting.

School officials in Logan were set to go ahead with the event with extra police after consulting with federal and state law enforcement who told them the threat was consistent with ones Anita Sarkeesian receives when she gives speeches elsewhere.

But Sarkeesian, a well-known critic of the portrayal of women in video games, pulled out Tuesday night after learning from university officials that Utah law prohibits colleges from taking away concealed weapons from valid permit holders. Utah is the only state in the country with such a law.

“It’s sort of mindboggling to me that they couldn’t take efforts to make sure there were no guns in an auditorium that was threatened with guns and a mass shooting,” Sarkeesian told The Associated Press. “I don’t understand how they could be so cut and dry about it.”

ATLANTA – A second Dallas nurse diagnosed with Ebola was transferred Wednesday from Texas to a specialized hospital isolation unit in Atlanta that has already treated three Americans with the virus.

Helicopter footage from local television stations showed 29-year-old Amber Joy Vinson leaving a jet and being helped into an ambulance Wednesday night. A police motorcade escorted the ambulance as it traveled to Emory University Hospital.

Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, which had been treating Vinson, confirmed her arrival in a tweet. Emory later released a statement saying “a patient with Ebola” had arrived at the hospital at 8:30 p.m.

Vinson was one of the nurses who cared for Thomas Eric Duncan, who died at the Dallas hospital last week of the Ebola virus. Another of Duncan’s nurses, Nina Pham, also is being treated for Ebola at the Texas hospital and was in “improved condition” Wednesday, said Dr. Tom Frieden, director of the Cen-

ters for Disease Control and Prevention.

Meanwhile, an American doctor undergoing treatment for Ebola said he had been critically ill but is now recovering and expects to be discharged soon from Emory University Hospital.

The unidentified patient – a doctor working for the World Health organization at an Ebola treatment center in Sierra Leone – arrived Sept.

9 at the hospital. He said in a statement released by Emory that his condition worsened soon after he arrived but he is now much better.

The doctor is one of three American aid workers brought to Emory from West Africa; the other two recovered. Emory and three other U.S. hospitals have specialized isolation units to care for Ebola with less risk of spread to health care workers.

The WHO doctor had asked Emory to release the news about his improved condition following reports of the two recently infected Texas nurses. But he did not give his name, and hospital officials have refused to identify him, citing the wishes of the patient and his family.

Dizzying day for Wall Street as stocks plunge amid fear

By KEN SWEET and ALEX VEIGA The Associated Press NEW YORK – Fear drove Wall Street to one of its most dramatic, dizzying days in years on Wednesday.

Investors fled stocks and poured into bonds as worries about a global economic slowdown intensified. The Dow Jones industrial average dropped 460 points in afternoon trading, all three U.S. stock indexes were in negative territory for the year, and the so-called fear index spiked.

A late recovery limited the damage and left stocks mostly lower. But investors were shaken after the heaviest day of trading in more than three years.

“I think it’s fair to call it a global growth scare right now,” said Bill Stone, chief investment strategist at PNC Asset Management.

Investor concerns of a worldwide economic slowdown turned into outright fear after weeks of turbulence. Germany, Europe’s biggest economy, is struggling.

China’s economy appears to

be slowing. A batch of worrisome economic news in the U.S. also fueled the selling.

Traders sold riskier investments and moved money into U.S. government bonds, gold and cash.

By the end of the day, the Dow Jones industrial average lost 173.45 points, or 1 percent, to 16,141.74. The Standard & Poor’s 500 index fell 15.21 points, or 0.8 percent, to 1,862.49. And the Nasdaq composite dropped 11.85 points, or 0.3 percent, to 4,215.32.

The relatively modest declines, however, masked what was a frightening ride for investors. At one point, the Nasdaq flirted with a correction, which happens when a benchmark index closes 10 percent or more below a recent peak.

Wall Street’s so-called “fear index” also kept rising.

The Chicago Board Options Exchange’s volatility index, known as the VIX, has more than doubled over the past month: from 12 in September to 26 on Wednesday.

Government bonds also reflected deep anxiety among investors. The yield on the benchmark U.S. 10-year note

slumped from 2.20 percent to below 1.91 percent in early trading Wednesday, a move of 29 basis points. As bond prices rise, yields drop.

“It typically takes weeks for 10-year Treasurys to move 29 basis points,” or 0.29 percentage points, noted Tom di Galoma, head of fixed income rates in New York at ED&F Man Capital. “Today it moved 29 basis points in 5 minutes.”

By the end of the day, the 10-year pulled back to a yield of 2.14 percent.

Stone said he thought the plunge in bond yields likely played a role in the stock market’s steep drop in early trading.

“I don’t care who you are – to see the 10-year near 2 percent is shocking,” he said.

Investors have grown nervous of a stock market that had pushed ever higher, even in the face of a weakening global economy. The U.S. market also has not had a correction in more than three years.

Historically, a correction happens every 18 months.

The S&P 500 index is now 7.4 percent below the peak of 2,011.36 it reached Sept. 18.

Life is valuable even when it is painful VIEWS Kathryn Jean Lopez NEWARK, N.J. – The salutatorian of the Bayonne High class of 1917 was cause for celebration this past week. “If you can be a saint in Newark, New Jersey ...,” my cab driver memorably said as I explained to him the reason for the police, media and crowds. Miriam Teresa Demjanovich was being beatified at a morning Mass, in recognition of her saintly life.

During her brief life, Demjanovich cared for her ailing parents, taught school and became a Sister of Charity, having long felt called to religious life. She was only 26 when she died, from complications after the removal of her tonsils. But she had spiritual wisdom far beyond her years.

I thought of Demjanovich’s short life when I read about Brittany Maynard. If you haven’t seen her heartbreaking video, she is a 29-year-old diagnosed with brain cancer. Her diagnosis is grim, and death is pending. She and her husband have moved to Oregon so she can speed the process along and end her life Nov. 1. That’s her legal right in the Beaver State.

But how can that be right?

What does it say about a society when assisted suicide becomes legal? What does it say about us that we seem to value choice over life?

Back in Newark, just days after the celebration of Demjanovich’s short life, the Rev. Benedict Groeschel was being laid to rest.

In a book about death and the afterlife, Groeschel wrote: “Every thinking person knows that in the midst of

terrible tragedy, anyone can be brought to a moment of wishing that life would end.

This life on earth can have moments of exquisite beauty, of great satisfaction, but it can also be a ‘valley of tears.’”

Maynard faces that valley.

“The most common personal problem of sane people is anxiety and fear,” Groeschel wrote, reflecting on his four decades as a psychologist. “We live as if the world were static, yet it changes constantly ... we pretend that is it not in the nature of all life to be born, to grow, to decline and eventually perish.”

We’re becoming a society whose institutions opt to prolong this denial of decrepitude, to cope with it by denying the loving, human aspects of decline and death. We claim it is merciful to cut life short, ignoring the unexpected sources of hope and healing that life’s end can bring.

Those who advocate for legal euthanasia and assisted suicide have adopted the word “dignity.” It is a travesty of the word. Our culture has surrendered the inalienable right to life to circumstantial choice.

We should be champions of human dignity, ensuring no one is made to feel life is no longer worth living.

“The world tells us that our lives are our own and can be used as we see fit,” Groeschel wrote. But, he argued, our lives are gifts and “one day we will surrender them back to our heavenly Father.”

And there is the hope that even amid the darkness – families broken and separated and hearts wounded – we can find the hope and joy for which we were made.

The politics of state scandal The best defense is a good offense.

Gov. Pat Quinn went on the attack last week, dropping his past apologies over a state anti-violence initiative while charging that his Republican critics on a legislative audit commission are conducting a “witch hunt.”

The dramatic change in tone reflects Quinn’s naturally aggressive nature as well as the political necessity of blunting Republican attacks on his scandal-ridden 2010 Neighborhood Recovery Initiative.

As far as tactics go, it’s the smart move. With the Nov. 4 election just a few weeks away, Quinn’s counterattack on the GOP and its response not only changes the subject from policy to politics but helps to persuade voters the dispute is just another partisan scrum

they can safely ignore.

In terms of public policy, however, the defense offered

by Quinn and two former top aides of the failed $55 million program can only reinforce public cynicism about how state government really operates.

Republican legislators have charged that Quinn intended to flood millions of dollars into poor Chicago neighborhoods to win votes from the residents there.

Before last week, administration officials denied that claim, suggesting their plan to reduce incidents of violence was good but the implementation was flawed.

Reacting to the audit earlier this year, Quinn professed to be so disturbed about how the program was run that he dismantled the agency.

Despite Republican

efforts to wrap this issue around Quinn’s neck, it doesn’t appear to have gained traction with voters who’ve grown accustomed to incompetence and corruption in government. Polls show the race is pretty much a dead heat, with Quinn showing recent signs of surging into the lead. That’s the way it sometimes goes in politics.

But it’s not just the audit commission that is examining this abuse of taxpayers dollars. State and federal prosecutors also are taking a look at what happened, their subpoenas for public documents drawing recent attention in the news.

They certainly won’t act

by Election Day. When and if they do act, the “witch hunt” defense won’t fly.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

“I believe that we will win.

I believe that we will win,” the students repeated during a timeout in the second set.

“Wild West,” Joliet West outside hitter Elexis Coleman said about the supportive students.

West gave its fans plenty to cheer about and Sandburg plenty to worry about before the Tigers dropped their match, 25-21, 25-21, to the visiting Eagles.

“I thought we fought hard,” setter Gemma Cronin said.

“It’s a hard team to play. I think we could have done enough to beat them, but in the end it wasn’t in our favor.”

“I was happy with the way we were fighting,” West coach Al Mart said. “It would have been easy, especially Game Two, to pack it in. We did fight back, made some plays – just not enough plays.”

West (19-9, 3-2) put together a 7-0 run in the first set to go ahead, 11-7, and prompt an Eagles timeout. A block by Coleman and a kill by Brittany Schutter were in that stretch.

ROMEOVILLE – Armand Levandi makes it clear that he doesn’t like to lose, so the Lewis University senior tennis player is still unhappy about suffering his first loss of the season.

Considering that the defeat in his 28th match came in the finals of last weekend’s USTA/ITA National Small College Men’s Tennis singles championship at Sumter, South Carolina, the native of Tallinn, Estonia, has nothing to be ashamed of.

Levandi dropped a 6-1, 6-4 decision to Armstrong State’s Fernando Bogajo to claim second place in the event. A year ago, Levandi placed fourth in the same competition.

That marks the completion of a successful four-year career for Levandi, who’s majoring in business administration.

“Playing in college has allowed me to continue playing tennis and also get an education,” said Levandi, who started playing the sport when he was 8. “They don’t have a college sports system in Europe.

I came to Lewis because there was another Estonian guy here before, and they said that they could offer me a scholarship if I came here.

“It was tough, especially in the beginning when i had a lot of paperwork to do. And the environment here was completely different than at home. At first, I didn’t really know what the professors were talking about since I didn’t really have good English skills, but now it’s a lot easier. You get more attention from professors since classes are small, and I like that.

“It’s been a lot of fun. In college, we play team matches while, back home, we play just for ourselves. I’ve always liked team sports, and I love soccer, so that’s why I liked being able to play on the tennis team here at Lewis.”

Joliet area prominent in playoff picture VIEWS Dick Goss With seven weeks of the high school football season in the books, the playoff picture is gaining clarity.

If the playoffs were to begin now, the Herald-News area would have 13 qualifiers. However, Plainfield South (3-4) and Minooka (3-4) both also remain in the running because they have plenty of playoff points (opponent victories) should they finish 5-4.

For that to happen, Minooka must beat Oswego

East and win at Plainfield North, while South must win at Plainfield Central and finish with a victory at home over Southwest Prairie heavyweight Oswego.

Easier said than done, but still possible.

Plainfield East, Plainfield North and Coal City, all of which are 5-2, probably need a sixth victory to guarantee a spot, while Bolingbrook might or might not need a sixth win. North gets its shot at Oswego on Friday night.

Among the 4-3 teams in the area, Joliet West will clinch a berth with a victory Saturday over winless Joliet Central. Lincoln-Way Central will do the same if it

6. Lemont (7-0): Not many teams anywhere are dominating their schedule the way the Indians are. It will be interesting to see how they fare come playoff time.

7. Lincoln-Way Central (4-3): The Knights’ losses all have been close, with Thornton the latest to knock them off. Connor Campbell will go over 1,000 yards passing for the season Friday night at Thornwood.

8. Plainfield East (5-2): The Bengals took their best shot but came up short against Southwest Prairie kingpin Oswego. The next order of business is to win the last two games and build momentum for the playoffs.

There’s a danger of running Matt Forte into the ground Murray?

According to Pro Football Focus, Forte has been on the field for 391 of the Bears’ offensive snaps this season, which makes him far and away the busiest running back in the NFL. Believe it or not, Murray has had only 339 snaps through six weeks, the Steelers’ Le’Veon Bell is third at 336 snaps and LeSean McCoy checks in fourth with 308 snaps, all of these numbers according to Pro Football Focus.

I stop there because, while none of those three are within nine snaps a game of Forte, they are the only backs in the league within 130 snaps of Forte. Through six weeks, that’s 22 plays a game.

Frank Gore is fifth among NFL running backs with 260 snaps, Arian Foster is next with 247, etc.

What does this really mean? Running backs are exposed to the most violence on the field every time they rush from scrimmage, remembering that defenseless receivers are protected from contact, or catch a pass.

Any time Forte isn’t touching the football, he’s trying to block a player 30 to 100 pounds larger player coming at him full speed or sprinting downfield as a decoy in the passing game.

Obviously, the Bears don’t trust Ka’Deem Carey or Senorice Perry enough to give Forte some meaningful rest, but if they don’t find another option soon they run a serious

BEARS INSIDER Hub Arkush The potential upside to the Bears’ 3-3 start that fans have been tossing around since the league released its 2014 schedule in April is the perception things get a lot easier after the bye – five of their last seven games are at home – and if the Bears can just get to .500, or maybe 4-5 after the second Packers game, it will be in good shape.

There are at least two potential problems with that.

Two games with the Lions and a Thursday night date with the Cowboys are now a lot less appealing than they were in April.

There also is a real concern about how dependent this offense is on Matt Forte, and just how much he’ll have left in the tank when the Bears come around the final turn.

In the midst of all the chatter about what a pleasant surprise the Cowboys have been this season, how many analysts have you heard focus on the fact that DeMarco Murray already has 159 rushes through six games, which projects to 435 carries on the season?

Many believe that is not sustainable, Murray will crash and burn, and the Cowboys’ success will go with him.

What if I told you Forte has been even busier than

Coach Marc Trestman appears to be aware of the risks he’s running with his Pro Bowl running back. On Wednesday he talked about getting Forte extra rest during the week.

“We’re working on that,” Trestman said. “We did that today. We did it last week. He takes a lot of hits during the course of the game, more than anybody because of all the touches that he has. He didn’t practice last week. That was a decision here. It wasn’t up to him. He would have practiced.

He did the same thing today.

He had a very good Thursday practice last week, so we’ll stay on that again.”

Ka’Deem Carey has been marginally better than I expected after what we saw in the preseason, although his pass protection is still below average, and it’s hard to envision him being anywhere near as productive as Forte if he’s asked to be the lead back.

We all love watching Forte with the ball. But if the Bears don’t find a way to start limiting his reps at least a bit, soon, they run a real risk of best case limiting his effectiveness or worst case, not having him at all when they need him the most.

Bears safety Vereen gets chance to shine

By KEVIN FISHBAIN kfishbain@chicagofootball.com LAKE FOREST – Instead of going to Danny McCray when Chris Conte was injured Sunday in Atlanta, the Bears’ staff put Brock Vereen in the game.

Coach Marc Trestman attributed the decision to the ongoing rotation at safety with special teams responsibilities in mind, but it’s clear Vereen has earned more playing time by continuing to understand the defense.

“I’m as comfortable as I’ve ever been back there,” Vereen said after Wednesday’s practice. “Just staying in the playbook, and everything, from a comfort stand point, it’s definitely the best it’s been so far.”

Vereen is also extremely active on special teams and emphasized the importance of being well conditioned to manage both roles, and the fourth-rounder does revel in getting any opportunity to be on the field.

“At the end of the day, any chance you get to be on the field is something you’ve got to take advantage of,” he said.

Conte did not practice on Wednesday and his status, along with who would potentially start for him alongside Ryan Mundy, is unknown, but Vereen is getting used to the “next man up” mentality and has learned from observ-

ing Conte.

“He’s a very intuitive guy,” Vereen said. “He may not be the most vocal guy, but he lets his play do the talking. He’s someone a rookie like me can learn from by just watching.”

Another coverage challenge: The Bears spent all last week preparing to make sure Devin Hester didn’t make them pay, and now they face the top returning team in the league.

The Dolphins have the best starting position in the NFL at the 26.3-yard line, which happens to be 7.2 yards better than the Bears.

Rookie Jarvis Landry is averaging 31.6 yards a return.

“He’s done a heck of a job for them,” special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis said of Landry. “A much different challenge than Devin as far as he’s a stronger guy, one-cut play. He’s really done a good job up to this point so it’s going to be a good challenge for us. They’ve done a nice job in that phase for sure.”

Vereen also commented on Landry’s strength as something the coverage teams have to be mindful of when corralling Miami’s dangerous returner.

“I think [Landry] doesn’t get enough credit for his strength,” he said. “He’s definitely a guy, if you don’t bring it, he’s going to break the tackle. We’re looking forward to the challenge.”

After nearly three decades spent as one of the game’s biggest laughingstocks, the Kansas City Royals are once again baseball royalty. They are headed to their first World Series since 1985, finishing a four-game sweep in the AL Championship Series with a 2-1 victory Wednesday over the Baltimore Orioles.

In a perfect postseason, the Royals are intent to relish every moment.

“It’s hard to explain,” said Cain, whose clutch hits and dramatic catches earned him the series MVP award. “We’re clicking at the right moment right now.”

There’s no doubt about that.

Now, the Royals will carry an 11-game playoff win streak into the World Series, one shy of the

major league record. That includes their first eight this season, something that had never been done in postseason history.

Kansas City beat Oakland in a 12-inning wild-card thriller to start things off, then swept the Los Angeles Angels in the Divisional Series.

Kansas City will open its first World Series since 1985 on Tuesday against the winner of the NLCS between the Giants and Cardinals. San Francisco leads that series, 2-1.

Coincidentally, it was the Cardinals who the Royals beat for their only World Series title.

“It’s been an amazing run,” Royals outfielder Alex Gordon said. “It’s nothing better than when you win. Today, same old story: good pitching, good defense and scratch out a win.”

Same old story for the Orioles, too: Solid pitching, good defense – and just not enough offense. They managed seven hits over the last two games against Kansas City, resulting in the first sweep for the franchise in 21 postseason series.

The overtime began with a nice stop by Crawford on Paul Byron’s breakaway opportunity just 40 seconds into the extra period. Brad Richards had a chance to win the game for the Blackhawks, but his tip off a nice pass from Duncan Keith went wide.

It looked as if it was only a matter of time while the Blackhawks played keepaway for much of the first two periods, but Hiller stepped up and the Flames jumped in front at 11:55 of the second. Joe Colborne won a faceoff with Jonathan Toews and sent the puck back to Wideman, who let loose with a long slap shot that went off the stick of Blackhawks rookie Trevor van Riemsdyk and into the net.

Sensitive ears, nonjudgmental attitudes Joliet faith-based hotline helps callers in crisis, seeks volunteers

By DENISE M. BARAN–UNLAND dunland@shawmedia.com JOLIET – Seven years ago, when Sister Mary Frances Seeley began The Upper Room, her intention was for this 24/7 faith-based hotline to serve Catholic priests and brothers.

Today, The Upper Room is busier than ever, thanks to people around the globe finding the hotline’s 800 number on the Internet, Seeley said.

Although the hotline receives calls from Catholic clergy, most are from laypeople seeking moral guidance.

The questions and dilemmas are wide and varied, said Seeley, chief operating officer of The Upper Room.

Is it a sin if I’m homosexual? I’m married and want to have transgender surgery. Do I tell my fiance/fiancee that I cheated on him/her? My boyfriend/girlfriend is contemplating suicide; what do I do?

“Some people call just to have us pray with them,” Seeley said.

There are times when it’s apparent a caller is mentally ill, such as when he or she is hearing voices – especially when those voices are telling the person to hurt themselves, Seeley said.

Other callers have dabbled in the occult – or have family members involved with it – and need help moving away from it.

Seeley has worked with hotlines for nearly 45 years, also founding Crisis Line of Will County and Grundy Counties in 1976, which still exists. She said the frequency of calls concerning the occult have increased over time. She blames the media.

“Look at your TV programs,” Seeley said. “How many of them deal with vampires and ghosts?”

Just 19 volunteers – and Seeley – work the hotline. More volunteers are needed, Seeley said. Most open time slots are filled by Seeley herself.

Training sessions are eight weeks long, she added.

Candidates must be practicing Catholics. Seeley prefers people that are “seasoned,” although she might allow select college interns to volunteer if they have a psychology of theology background.

Although Seeley requires volunteers to have a solid understanding of the Catholic faith, that does not

They hear just the opposite.

In fact, one of the first questions a volunteer might ask is, “What faith were you raised in?” If appropriate, the volunteer may suggest the caller reach out to a priest or minister of his or her denomination.

In all cases, a caller will never be told what to do.

“They need to think it out,” Seeley said. “We help draw it out, help them examine what is bothering them and help them see which [choice] is most helpful with fewer negative consequences.”

In addition to receiving training in paraprofessional counseling, human sexuality, suicide prevention, grief counseling and communication skills, volunteers must have sensitive listening ears, Seeley said, and have an open, nonjudgmental attitude.

“Sometimes, we save a life,” Seeley said, “and sometimes, we just send

them down a different path to live happily ever after. Sometimes we help bring them back to their practices of religion or help them make healthy changes in their lifestyle.”

The number of calls The Upper Room receives varies each day and night, Seeley said, but the average is five to 12 during the day and one to 11 between midnight and 6 a.m.

Occasionally, the hotline will receive repeat calls from the same people wanting to discuss the same problems, Seeley said. Volunteers still will speak to them but limit the time and amount of phone calls they will take from them, gently steering repeat callers to other resources, she added.

“It’s not good for the person to rehash everything,” Seeley said.

Unfortunately, the PSA test cannot distinguish well between aggressive and slow-growing tumors.

The former may require immediate treatment, while the latter may need no active treatment at all.

A final weakness of the PSA test is that it does not detect all cancers. In other words, just as the test can be falsely positive, it can also be falsely negative: It comes back normal (“negative”), but you really do have prostate cancer.

In such cases, a PSA test offers a false sense of security.

In 2013, the American Urological Association came out with new guidelines that are more or less in line with those of other groups. These guidelines advise against routine screening for men at average risk who are under age 55 or over age 70. For men aged 55 to 69, the guidelines advise that doctor and patient make the decision together, based on a man’s individual risks, preferences and values.

I order PSA tests in many men aged 55 to 70.

But like many doctors, what I’m waiting for is a better test that detects aggressive prostate cancers accurately and ignores the slow-growing ones.

Dear Doctor K: I’ve heard so many conflicting opinions about whether or not to get screened for prostate cancer. Are there official guidelines? What do they recommend?

Dear Reader: To say that prostate cancer screening has been controversial is an understatement. I spoke to my colleague Dr. Marc Garnick, clinical professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, to hear his thoughts.

The two ways to screen for prostate cancer are the digital rectal exam (DRE) and the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test.

PSA levels rise when the prostate has turned cancerous, but they also rise when the prostate is just irritated or damaged.

Together, PSA testing and DRE may nearly double the detection rate for early-stage prostate cancer.

But there’s a catch.

Because other prostate conditions besides cancer can raise the blood levels of PSA, an elevated PSA does not always mean a man has cancer. We call a high blood level of PSA in a man without prostate cancer a “false positive” result.

False positive results can cause needless worry. And they may lead to invasive procedures, such as biopsies, to determine if cancer is present. No test is perfect: There is always the chance of a false positive result. But it happens pretty often with the PSA test.

The bigger problem, however, is this: As strange as this may sound, not all cancers are bad for your health. Some prostate cancers are so small and slow-growing that they will never spread and cause problems: You’ll die of something else. You’ll die with prostate cancer, but not from prostate cancer.

Of course, some prostate cancers are aggressive and very definitely a threat to a man’s health. So what
