Will County Sheriff’s police reported Reichert, 58, was using a tractor to move vehicles about 6 p.m. on proper- Sam ty he owned in Reichert the 22000 block of West 143rd Street when he collapsed. Relatives called 911 and performed CPR until paramedics transported him to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, according to police reports.

Reichert was pronounced dead at 7:02 p.m. His death is believed to be the result of medical issues, police said.

Reichert built a warehouse on the two-acre property on 143rd Street years ago to store his Route 66 merchandise and collectibles. He and his wife had planned to build a house on the site, but the county changed zoning laws after they purchased the land.

Earlier this year, the Will County Board Land Use Committee denied a special-use permit for the industrial area.

Reichert appealed the ruling to the full county board, who asked the committee to review

the issue further. Will County Board Member Reed Bible, D-Plainfield, said Monday the county board amended its zoning laws just last month to allow Reichert to move forward with plans to build a home on the land.

There are still some issues being worked out regarding building codes.

Bible said he intends to continue pressing the issue so Reichert’s wife, Lynn, can eventually live on the 143rd Street property as the couple had intended.

Bible described Reichert as amiable, approachable and polite. As the highway commissioner for a small community, Reichert often went out of his way to help out residents, Bible said.

“If you had some special need, and you had a particular obstruction or a pothole outside your home in the street, Sam would do little side jobs at no extra charge, basically, with his own sweat to get that stuff taken care of,” Bible said. “He would always go that extra step for the residents.

“You could tell he wasn’t a guy who was pretentious or snooty about being in public office,” Bible added. “He was a down-to-earth kind of guy.”

Highway commissioner since 2003, Reichert supervised the replacement of a 100-yearold, one-lane Renwick Road bridge over the DuPage River with a modern two-lane bridge.

The Village of Plainfield

preferred a high-span bridge that would pass over the railroad tracks and river, but Reichert fought for township residents who wanted a low-level bridge.

After years of arguing, the village board agreed to deed the needed land to the township highway commission.

“I did what I felt the majority of the people wanted,” Reichert told The Herald-News in 2011.

Mayor Michael Collins said Reichert often helped people free of charge while he towed trucks or managed a gas station on Division Street over the years.

“He was a nice guy that would assist you anytime he could,” Collins said. “I was really shocked when I heard he died last night. It really put me back on my heels.”

A lifelong resident of Plainfield, Reichert graduated from Plainfield High School in 1973.

He started working at the family gas station as a kid and opened Sam’s Service Station on Division Street in 1981, according to his township biography.

Reichert was hired by the highway department as a shop foreman in 1998.

“He is also a perfectionist, and believes that no job is complete until it is done the right way,” the township biography described Reichert.

Reichert is survived by his wife, Lynn, and their children, Tim and Sunny.

Man charged with domestic battery

By BRIAN STANLEY bstanley@shawmedia.com CHANNAHON – A man was arrested early Monday after authorities allege he beat up his quadriplegic brother.

Channahon Police Chief Jeff Wold said authorities were called shortly after 1 a.m. to a disturbance in the 24400 block of Rock Ridge Court.

“A witness said the 50-yearold victim kept yelling ‘Help,

I’m being hit,’ ” Wold said.

The victim reportedly told officers Dallas E. Dunavan, 43, had become frustrated over taking care of him and started pushing and punching him, according to Wold.

Wold said Dunavan appeared to be intoxicated and threatened to fight with police.

“He stated he’d just been shaking the bed that had to be cleaned,” Wold said.

The victim was examined

by paramedics, but was not hospitalized. Dunavan was arrested on a charge of domestic battery and booked into the Will County jail.

Earlier this year, Dunavan pleaded guilty to battery and resisting arrest for a December 2013 incident in Channahon. Wold said Monday the victim in that incident was a different relative.

Court records show Dunavan is on probation for that conviction.

Business, political leaders see manufacturing ‘renaissance’ on the horizon

vshanker@shawmedia.com MINOOKA – Industry and political leaders from Will and Grundy counties predict a “renaissance” of manufacturing jobs in the near future.

This re-invigoration of well-paying jobs and skilled work was touted by several people last week, including the owner of Minooka-based Metalstamp Inc., Lee Hutchinson.

“Right now, we’re seeing an upturn,” Hutchinson said.

“We’re seeing a resurgence of orders from the automotive industry. That has really been the bump.”

Metalstamp hosted an open house Wednesday in its new 50,000-square-foot facility at 6800 E. Minooka Road, where it moved its operations and offices on June 1.

U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Channahon, toured the new facility along with state Sen. Sue Rezin, R-Morris, and village officials, including Mayor Pat Brennan.

Kinzinger, who sits on the House Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade, said it’s important to support manufacturers and their energy needs.

“We’ve seen the past couple years a resurgence, a renaissance, of American manufacturing,” Kinzinger said. “The greatest thing we have in this country is cheap access to energy. ... It’s important that we continue access to that cheap energy.”

Kinzinger also said Washington, D.C., has been at a standstill on bills regarding the manufacturing sector. But talks may be in the works to assist an industry that is losing young talent.

“It’s not really a Republican or Democrat issue,” Kinzinger said.

“We’re staying here in Illinois, but we need to address the issue of education,” he said.

“We don’t see any school tours anymore to open the kids’ eyes to this industry,” Hutchinson said. “That to me is one of the key points of why we’re not seeing the same interest.”

Hutchinson said the education system is focused on getting students through college without introducing them to the skilled trades. This is leading to a lack of interest in skilled manufacturing work, including high-paying jobs, he said.

Hutchinson said he is reaching out to area school districts to set up school visits.

On Wednesday, Hutchinson also gave a $5,000 check to Brennan for Minooka’s DARE drug prevention program for kids.

“It’s very important for us, and the industry, and the kids,” he said.

The renaissance Metalstamp makes metal pieces for components in automobiles, medical devices and other electronics, from the gold wiring in airbag deployment systems to the metal heart rate detecting pieces on exercise equipment.

Executives said 30 to 40 percent of the company’s products get shipped to countries such as China, Mexico, Malaysia and France.

Grundy Economic Develop-

ment Council Vice President Doug Pryor said the area’s transportation system gives a competitive advantage to manufacturers in northeastern Illinois.

“Rail in particular, in this part of the country, is extraordinary,” Pryor said. “We have great roadways, we have the Illinois River, and we have the ability to move a lot of cargo by air in the region.”

Grundy County’s particular strength is chemical man-

ufacturing, with companies such as LyondellBasell, AkzoNobel, Aux Sable and H.B. Fuller. It has five times the chemical manufacturing jobs per capita than the average area in the United States.

“Natural gas has been a driver for the manufacturing scene,” Pryor said.

Will County Center for Economic Development President John Greuling said export opportunities to developing countries is a primary driver for a local renaissance in manufacturing.

“We do believe the industry is rebounding,” Greuling said, adding Will County added 500 manufacturing jobs between July 2013 and July 2014.

The heads of Will, Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake and McHenry counties joined to form Metro Chicago Exports, a regional collaboration aimed at helping small and mid-size businesses capitalize on the foreign development boom.

“With the global marketplace more dynamic than ever, Chicago is right to act regionally and globally to ensure businesses and workers continue to prosper,” Amy Liu, co-director of the Brookings Metropolitan Policy Program and Global Cities Initiative, said in a news release.

The project has the backing of JP Morgan Chase, which has pledged $500,000. The collaborative group also received $100,000 from the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning.

“We’re continuing to grow, and the industry is continuing to grow,” Hutchinson said.

Waste hauler converting trucks to natural gas Garbage pick-ups will be quieter

By VIKAAS SHANKER vshanker@shawmedia.com ROCKDALE – Homeowners who mark when their garbage is picked up by the sound of the passing truck will need to perk up their ears by the start of December.

That’s when Waste Management Inc. will start replacing its Rockdale district fleet of diesel engine garbage trucks with compressed natural gas trucks.

“The natural gas engines are much quieter and better for the environment,” said District Manager Lisa Lorenz. “It will increase efficiency and allow us to go into communities with noise restrictions.”

Lorenz said several municipalities regulate the times garbage trucks can pick up trash because they make too much noise. The natural gas trucks will allow Waste Management to alter routes and send trucks at hours that make operations more efficient.

Waste Management has taken the first step toward the conversion by laying the groundwork for a natural gas fueling station outside the Rockdale facility. Right now,

“Once it’s built, we’ll have 20 CNG trucks,” Lorenz said.

“They will be slow-fill bays ... the trucks will refuel overnight.”

The company will slowly replace 120 diesel trucks with natural gas trucks. The diesel trucks will be transferred for use in other Waste Management facilities.

In addition to reducing noise pollution, the natural gas trucks’ emissions are half of what the diesel trucks put out. And they carry about 50 gallons of fuel, allowing them to run a full-day route.

The investment in natural gas fuel reduced fuel emissions and increased efficiency by 15 percent last year, eight years ahead of the company’s goal.

The natural gas trucks cost about $40,000 more than diesel trucks. But officials say the price tag is worth it.

Residential driver Luis Lara said the trucks will help quite a bit.

“I’m very excited about it,” Lara said. “Sometimes, we have to hear each other above truck noise. The natural gas trucks will be quieter.”

Lara said he also appreciated Waste Management’s commitment to be “greener.”

JJC still waiting on bigger grant, moving forward

By LAUREN LEONE–CROSS lleonecross@shawmedia.com JOLIET – Interior construction of Joliet Junior College’s City Center campus project is moving forward even with the school still waiting on most of the $25.5 million promised in state funding.

While in Joliet Saturday, Gov. Pat Quinn announced $5 million in funding to JJC to help finish interior construction of the City Center campus, but it’s unclear when, or if, the remaining money will find its way to JJC’s coffers.

Dave Blanchette, spokesman for the governor’s office, said the funding will be “part of the discussion” as lawmakers craft the state’s next fiveyear capital plan at the start of the new year.

“There are a lot of remaining needs throughout the state of Illinois. Each of those will be part of the discussion. ...

The project has been on the list of priorities,” Blanchette said.

State legislators have yet to appropriate capital funds for the project, Mihelich said. But he said he fully anticipates the state to follow through on the remaining money – even if it’s after the fact.

The City Center campus project has been No. 1 on the priority list for the Illinois Community College Board for

a few years now, he said. The project, which carries a $58 million price tag, will be paid for with bond money, the $25.5 million from the state, interest earned on bonds and money received from other master plan projects that came in under budget, according to school officials.

The $58 million City Center campus will house the adult education and literacy department, workforce development and the culinary arts program.

The building is expected to open in fall 2016.

100 cellphones taken in Mokena armed robbery

By BRIAN STANLEY bstanley@shawmedia.com MOKENA – Two men took 100 cellphones in a holdup Friday.

No one was injured when the robbery occurred about 8:45 p.m. at T-Mobile, 11316 W. Lincoln Highway.

An employee at the counter said one man came in and said he needed help with his phone, while another man came in and stood by the door, according to police reports.

The first man took out a black and silver semi-automatic handgun and demanded phones from the store while the other man locked the front

door. The bandits forced the woman back into the storage area and made her open the store safe, reports said.

After taking cash from the safe, they put about 100 cellphones into blue cloth bags and fled out the back door.

No other customers were inside the store. Another employee told police she was in the washroom and did not witness the robbery, according to reports.

The robbers were described as black men in their early 20s.

The suspect with the gun was about 6-feet, 1 inch tall with a thin build, according to police.

He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with red trim, dark

jeans and red sneakers.

The second suspect was about 5-feet, 9-inches tall with a medium build. He was wearing a navy blue sweatshirt, jeans and white sneakers, police said. The clerk said he was carrying a knife during the robbery.

Deputy Chief Dan Rankovich said Monday police were checking with other departments regarding similar armed robberies in the area.

Three men were arrested last month after allegedly robbing T-Mobile stores in Crest Hill, Lockport and Bolingbrook between Sept. 3 and 11. They remain in the Will County jail on armed robbery charges.

An autopsy was performed Sunday on Michael D. Lott, 47, of Joliet, but further testing is

required, the Will County Coroner’s office reported. Toxicology testing results are usually available in two weeks.

Lott was discovered by scrappers about 11:30 a.m. behind the 200 block of East Cass Street. Police said there were “no signs of trauma” on Lott’s body.

Joliet school board OKs emergency plan

By SARWAT S. AHMAD Shaw Media Correspondent JOLIET – The Joliet Public School District 86 board approved its annual school emergency plan last week.

The district’s safety committee – comprised of school administrators, nurses and staff – meets annually with local fire and police departments to revisit safety protocols and make any needed updates, according to E. Wesley Russell, assistant superintendent for business and financial services.

The state last year mandated that all public schools have one active shooter lockdown drill a year. However, District 86 has had monthly lockdown drills for many years, Russell said.

Besides the monthly lockdown drills, the schools partic-

ipate in monthly fire drills and severe-weather drills in March, April and May. A bus evacuation drill takes place once a year.

Schools are in contact with local authorities throughout the school year, Russell said.

The police and fire departments visit the schools to make sure all safety and security requirements are met.

Sometimes a police officer in plain clothes will enter a school unannounced to see if the staff follows protocol when a stranger is in the building, Russell said.

To monitor who gets in and out of the buildings, all District 86 schools have double security doors and cameras at main entrances. Visitors must be buzzed in, and they are required to report to the main office and show driver’s licenses.

The company, which repackages merchandise for retail display, will move into Liberty Business Center Minooka.

The operation is expected to bring more than 150 jobs, mostly in warehousing, said Doug Pryor, vice president of the Grundy Economic Development Council.

It was not clear when Ad-

vertising Resources plans to begin operations in Minooka.

The company has a location in Alsip. Pryor said the Minooka operation would be an “outgrowth” from the Alsip location, so the jobs would be new.

“Their business is a lot of repackaging,” Pryor said. “They don’t necessarily make product. They take the product and repackage it for retail display.

Endcaps are sort of their specialty.”

Liberty Business Center Minooka is a 212-acre development, which has additional sites earmarked for development, according to Liberty Property Trust.

New Lenox officials praise support for damaged veterans memorial site

By FELIX SARVER fsarver@shawmedia.com NEW LENOX – Village officials in New Lenox commended the nationwide support for the veterans memorial site that was damaged in recent weeks.

At Monday’s Village Board meeting, Mayor Tim Baldermann praised New Lenox police for arresting a suspect allegedly involved in destroying monuments at a veterans memorial site located in the Village Commons area.

Police arrested Bourbonnais resident Brian Sundstrom, 26, on Thursday, who was charged with criminal damage to state-supported property.

Baldermann said village officials know it was a “despicable act” and donations are being made to restore the site.

“There are many who have stepped up … many have called. I had somebody send a check here for $25 from Oklahoma,” he said.

Village officials are also speaking with businesses to see if they want to donate as well, he said.

Larry Paveza, VFW Post 9545 quartermaster, said on the day of Sundstrom’s arrest that $5,700 had been collected thus far to restore the site. He also plans for more improvements and features, such as security cameras.

Baldermann said the village will restore the site to the “greatness that it was.”

“We are the home of proud Americans for good reason,” he said.

GPS system

Village board members approved Monday the purchase of GPS system for public works department vehicles. Public Works Director Brian Williams said the village will purchase the system from Idaho-based Precise Mobile Resource Management for $7,400.

He said one vehicle is fitted with a GPS system currently and village staff want to expand the service to 13 vehicles for work such as removing snow from roads.

The system will also allow them to moderate road salt use and work in remote locations.

“Other areas we haven’t been to we can go to,” he said.

Village officials also approved a $9,420 purchase of radios for 23 vehicles. Williams said radios will be bought from Joliet-based ABEEP.

PLAINFIELD – Village trustees were happy with their first comprehensive annual audit report and approved taking on costs for a residential development at Monday night’s board meeting.

Jim Savio, representing independent auditing firm Sikich, LLP, presented the 201314 audit report to the village board.

According to the report, the village saw several signs of economic improvement. Overall retail sales increased by 3 percent. Several new businesses entered or expanded in Plainfield, including Kuusakoski, Coil Plus Steel, Allways Precision and Five Star Tennis Club.

Also, the village for the first time since the recession started saw a surplus budget in its capital project fund.

“There was over a $12 mil-

lion deficit at one point,” Savio said.

Trustee Bill Lamb said the financial conditions of the village have changed drastically since he started on the board in 2005.

“I think we’re doing real well on this,” he said. “This document is new and in the back pages ... is information here that we haven’t seen before.”

Trustee Margie Bonuchi said sacrifices had to be made when she was elected to the board in 2009, at the start of the recession.

“We inherited an economic time when we had to lay off employees,” she said. “But we had an excellent village administrator and, through staff, turned a lot of this around. To see the balance turn around, itself speaks volumes.”

But while the state of Plainfield’s economy looked good, the board had to bail out a res-

Survived by daughters, Jo Ann (Brian) Hirner of Joliet, Elaine (Patrick) Dunbar; grandchildren, Cade, Ryan and Kara Dunbar from Arkansas.

Preceded in death by her husband, Carl E. Johnson in 1992; and 3 sisters; and four brothers from Missouri.

Betty grew up in Joliet, IL during the tough times of the Depression Era. She was a graduate of Joliet Township High School. She was a founding member and parishioner of Faith Lutheran Church in Joliet, IL, until moving to Florida in 1985 where she joined Faith Lutheran Church in Sarasota, FL and remained a member until her death. She was an active member of the Sarasota Woman’s Club. She also volunteered in the Emergency Department at the Doctors Hospital in Sarasota for 15 years during the latter part of her life.

His grandchildren were the light of his life and he would attend all of their sporting events. He will be truly missed.

was elected Highway Commissioner and was currently serving in his third term. He loved traveling the United States and was a member of several Route 66 Associations.

He was a lifelong collector of gas station memorabilia and treasures, as well as an accomplished baker and cook. Sam was also a die-hard, lifelong Green Bay Packer fan and relished every one of their wins (especially over the Bears).

For those who would like to leave a lasting tribute to Sam’s lifelong devotion to the care of animals, memorials to the ASPCA would be greatly appreciated.

DWIGHT – When Dwight farmer Matt Boucher first contacted a Los Angeles firm about buying a drone, all it knew about them was show business. Taking videos of corn, soy and wheat fields only mattered if a client needed an aerial shot of Robert Redford or Kevin Costner walking through them.

Boucher, however, was more interested in the field itself.

He’s an area pioneer of the use of drones in agriculture, a practice which could eventually become widespread.

The drones are the ideal tool for keeping tabs on fields, a job which can take hours and even days on foot depending on how much land is involved.

“Time is always a concern on a farm. There is never a day when there is nothing to do,” said Boucher, who operates Boucher Farms on 1,000 acres in Dwight. “Instead of going out in my field for hours I can do something else or spend my time with my children, which is very important to me.”

Problems with drainage, a lack of moisture or the need for additional pesticides or fertilizers can be determined from images the drone takes in the air. More advanced models can be equipped with sensors to provide even more information about the health of crops.

The devices, which are referred to as “unmanned aerial vehicles,” or UAVs, are just starting to appear in agricultural trade publications and at trade shows. Although not yet approved by the Federal Aviation Administration for commercial use, an agricultural market for drones is developing already.

“Just in about the last 12 months or so there has been a lot of talk about them,” said Chad Miller, Kankakee County Farm Bureau manager.

“Farmers embrace technology and it certainly is a useful tool. They’re very handy.”

Boucher’s own foray into agriculture’s future started

two years ago in a shopping mall.

“My little guy was five at the time and begging me for one of those little helicopters,” Boucher said. “I thought if we could fly those over crops with a camera, it would help.”

Pursuing the technology brought him online where me met other like-minded farmers. Eventually, he made a $4,000 investment in a fourprop quad copter designed for show business.

It’s in the shape of an “X’’ with dimensions of 18 inches in each direction. A camera with a memory card provides the images. It can fly up to 20 miles per hour and FAA regulations allow Boucher to fly it as high as 400 feet. He can also feed live video to his iPad and program routes for it to fly.

“This is not a toy,” Boucher said. “It’s not something you want to turn over to your kid.”

In addition to the expense of damaging the drone, the moving blades can cause serious injury to a person and can become a serious liability if there is an accident, he said.

That’s why Boucher favors licensing for operators.

Boucher also operates a seed dealership, Potential Ag, which will include drone services once the FAA allows them for commercial use. He sees strong potential for the business and believes they will become a staple in the ag industry.

Companies such as Gibson City-based Crop Copter have already developed models for sale at prices between $5,000 and $20,000 they’ve introduced at trade shows. The only real snag the developing market has is federal regulation.

Boucher can operate his as a hobbyist but is not allowed to charge farmers when he gives demonstrations. The venture will have to wait until regulations are developed.

Companies like Crop Copter are waiting, as well.

“It’s been a two-year process,” Boucher said. “I want to stay on the cutting edge with it.”

Republican Rauner explains ‘right to work zones’

CHICAGO – Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner said his campaign proposal to create so-called “right to work zones” also means designating areas where businesses face fewer tax and regulatory burdens, but the idea has raised eyebrows in union-friendly Illinois.

The venture capitalist is trying to unseat Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn in one of the nation’s most competitive governor’s races where labor issues have featured prominently.

Rauner told The Associated Press in a recent interview the zones would be a way to give local entities autonomy and help jumpstart economically-depressed areas. Rauner said an example of his plan could let municipalities or counties decide on whether to make paying union fees voluntary for unionized workers. And it would allow struggling areas, such as Chicago neighborhoods or downtown Decatur, the ability to lower corporate income tax rates to lure new businesses, something that appears to take a program that Illinois already offers a step further.

The zones would “allow local communities to decide whether workers must join a union in order to get a job,” according to Rauner’s website. He told AP such zones would give counties and cities control.

But unions and Quinn blasted the idea – which has already been contentious between unions and Republican governors elsewhere – as hurting workers and unions.

A full shift of air traffic controllers at the Chicago En Route Center in Aurora resumed control of the center’s airspace from adjoining centers between midnight and 1 a.m. on Monday, the Federal Aviation Administration said in a news release.

McDonald’s invites icky questions about its food

NEW YORK – McDonald’s wants to explain why its burgers may not rot and that there are no worms in its beef.

The world’s biggest hamburger chain is confronting unappetizing questions as part of a U.S. campaign to beat back perceptions that it serves Frankenfood. The company has run similar campaigns in Canada and Australia and said Monday it’s bringing the effort to its flagship market.

Black enrollment falls at the U. of Illinois

URBANA – In 1968 the University of Illinois’s campus in Urbana-Champaign set out to start enrolling 500 new black students every year.

According to The News-Gazette in Champaign, the state’s flagship public university hasn’t enrolled that many new black students in six years. This year the figure was 356.

Blacks make up 4.87 percent of 43,603 students on campus.

But 14.7 percent of the state’s population is black.

Ruby Mendenhall is a sociology and African-American Studies professor at the university. She said the university needs to reflect the state.

Campus spokeswoman Robin Kaler called the drop “unacceptable.” She said it reflects a trend of declining numbers of students choosing to enroll at the university.

Sheriff: Hunter dies in Wisconsin accident

TOWN OF STARK, Wis. – Vernon County authorities said a 71-yearold hunter died after falling from his 25-feet-high tree stand.

Sheriff John Spears said Monday that John Zumwalt of South Beloit, Illinois, died as a result of significant trauma to his chest area. He said the county coroner determined the cause of death as an accident, not a medical situation.

The sheriff said Zumwalt was bow hunting on family property near the Town of Stark on Friday.

His family members went into the woods near his tree stand to look for him when he hadn’t returned after dark.

North Korea: Remains of U.S. soldiers being moved Nearly 20 people were SEOUL, South Korea – North Korea said Monday the remains of American soldiers killed during the Korean War were being neglected and “carried away en masse,” in an apparent effort to pressure Washington to resume recovery efforts that also could lead to much-needed money for the impoverished country.

The United States suspended efforts to recover the remains of thousands of U.S. soldiers who died during the Korean War because of the North’s plans to launch a long-range rocket in 2012. The U.S. at the time was just starting to resume excavation work that had been suspended in 2005 when Washington said security arrangements for its personnel in the North were insufficient. North Korea would have received millions of dollars in compensation for its support of the work.

U.S. health officials urge hospitals to ‘think Ebola’

By EMILY SCHMALL and NOMAAN MERCHANT The Associated Press DALLAS – Federal health officials urged the nation’s hospitals Monday to “think Ebola” and launched a review of procedures for treating infected patients, while the World Health Organization called the outbreak “the most severe, acute health emergency seen in modern times.”

In Texas, medical records showed that a 26-year-old nurse who contracted Ebola while caring for a dying Liberian man repeatedly visited his room from the day he was placed in intensive care until the day before he died.

Nurse Nina Pham was among about 70 hospital staffers who were involved in Thomas Eric Duncan’s care after he was hospitalized, according to the records. They drew his blood, put tubes down his throat and wiped up his diarrhea. They analyzed his urine and wiped saliva from his lips, even after he had lost consciousness.

care workers at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital wore protective gear, including gowns, gloves, masks and face shields – and sometimes full-body suits – when caring for Duncan, but Pham became the first person to contract the disease within the United States.

Her family told Dallas television station WFAA on Monday she was the health care worker with Ebola. A rector at her family’s church, Hung Le, told The Associated Press that Pham’s mother told him Pham has the virus.

The Texas Christian University nursing school graduate was monitoring her own temperature and went to the hospital Friday night when she discovered she had a low fever. She was in isolation and in stable condition, health officials said.

Public-health authorities have since intensified their monitoring of other Dallas hospital workers who cared for Duncan.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Tom Frieden said he would not be surprised if another

hospital worker who cared for Duncan becomes ill because Ebola patients become more contagious as the disease progresses.

Pham’s name appears frequently throughout the hundreds of pages of records provided to The Associated Press by Duncan’s family.

They show she was in his room Oct. 7, the day before he died.

Her notes describe nurses going in and out of Duncan’s room wearing protective gear to treat him and to mop the floor with bleach.

She also notes how she and other nurses were ensuring Duncan’s “privacy and comfort,” and providing “emotional support.”

Frieden has said a breach of protocol led to the nurse’s infection, but officials are not sure what went wrong. Pham has not been able to point to any specific breach.

Turkey: No new deal with U.S. on air base

By SUZAN FRASER and RYAN LUCAS The Associated Press ANKARA, Turkey – NATO allies Turkey and the United States differed Monday on where they stand on the use of a key air base, with Turkish officials denying reports from the United States that there was a new agreement on its use for operations against Islamic State militants.

The impasse suggests major differences remain between the two sides. Turkey has said it won’t join the fight against the extremists unless the U.S.-led coalition also goes after the Syrian government of President Bashar Assad, including establishing a no-fly zone and a buffer zone along the Turkish border.

The United States has been pressing Turkey to play a larger role against the Islamic militants, who have taken control of large swaths of Syria and

Iraq, including territory on Turkey’s border, and sent refugees fleeing into Turkey.

U.S. officials said again Monday that Turkey would let U.S. and coalition forces use its bases, including Incirlik air base, which is within 100 miles of the Syrian border, for operations against the Islamic State militants in Syria and Iraq.

However, emerging Monday from a Cabinet meeting, Turkey’s deputy prime minister, Bulent Arinc, said that “apart from the existing cooperation in combating terrorism, there is no new situation concerning Incirlik air base.”

The deputy premier added that Turkey had proposed the use of some of its bases to train and equip moderate opposition forces fighting the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria, but said the sides had not yet come to any agreement.

Psychologist: Pistorius is now a ‘broken man’

By CHRISTOPHER TORCHIA and GERALD IMRAY The Associated Press PRETORIA, South Africa – Oscar Pistorius is a “broken man” after killing girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp and already has suffered emotionally and financially, a psychologist called by the Olympic runner’s lawyers testified Monday ahead of his sentencing.

Dr. Lore Hartzenberg gave the testimony ahead of Pistorius’ sentencing for culpable homicide, and it was almost immediately characterized by the chief prosecutor as lacking balance. Prosecutor Gerrie Nel also expressed shock after a defense witness suggested Pistorius be sentenced to occasional house arrest and community service for shooting dead his girlfriend.

After Hartzenberg described how Pistorius had suffered since the Valentine’s Day killing last year, Nel noted

that the double-amputee athlete likely still has the chance to rebuild his life and possibly continue his career, whereas Reeva Steenkamp is dead and her family is devastated.

“We are now dealing with a broken man, but he is still alive,” the prosecutor said. He asked the psychologist what she knew about Steenkamp.

“Do you know anything about her dreams, what she wanted to do in life?” Nel said.

Later, a social worker from South Africa’s correctional services department, who was also called to testify by defense lawyers, suggested Pistorius should serve a three-year correctional supervision sentence for negligently shooting Steenkamp. It would include periods of house arrest but no prison time, and let Pistorius train and attend athletic meets again.

Nel said that suggested sentence was “shockingly inappropriate” and described it as “no sentence.”

Too long to get Aurora theater shooting report It took more than two years for the release of a report on the emergency response by Aurora, Colorado, first responders to the theater shootings – a needless delay for such vital information.

The report released Wednesday outlined more than 80 recommendations for improvements to how police officers and fire officials respond. Specifically, the report urged better – and faster – communication and coordination.

Aurora already has implemented many of these recommendations, but the report will be useful to law enforcement and emergency agencies around the country.

Why the delay? Both prosecutors and defense attorneys fought the report’s release, citing the gag order in the case against suspected shooter James Holmes.

The gag kept the review from being launched until May 2013, almost a year after the incident, even though the report was centered on the response and not the investigation.

No one wants to foul up the Holmes case. But the overly broad interpretation of the gag order was not in the public’s interest. It is clear now this report includes valuable information, solely focused on making the public safer.

Sigh of relief on Rauner’s answer regarding taxes The most important question asked of Bruce Rauner during last week’s gubernatorial debate was posed by Jamey Dunn-Thomason of Illinois Issues magazine.

My pal pointed out that Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback (R) had cut taxes across the board on the theory that it would boost the state’s economy. His idea hasn’t worked.

What’s happened instead is a huge revenue shortfall that has forced gigantic state budget cuts and an economy that now lags the rest of the country. So what did Rauner think of Brownback’s policy, Dunn-Thomason wondered.

It has seemed to me over the past several months that Rauner is a true believer in “Brownbackism.” He’s proposed slashing the income tax over four years from 5 to 3 percent, without regard for the budgetary pain he would

VIEWS Rich Miller cause; and he predicted doing so would stimulate the state’s economy so intensely that all those lost revenues would be replaced magically by new income from growth.

The idea is a fantasy, and Brownback’s Kansas pretty much proves it.

The hard truth is pretty much the entire Illinois income tax hike pays for the state’s pension payments. Illinois had kept its tax rate low in comparison with most of the nation for decades because it was skipping and skimping on its long-term pension obligations, which finally led to big trouble with the state’s credit raters. The only responsible thing to do is to keep revenues

about where they are now to avoid a very real disaster in the rest of the budget. You might not like to hear this, but the math is the math.

Rauner also has pledged big spending increases for P-12 education, higher education, infrastructure, natural resources, corrections and a host of other state programs. How the heck can he do that if he plans to slash state revenues?

I’ve been hearing from some Republicans over the past couple weeks that Rauner is planning to “pull a Jim Thompson.” Our former governor twice ran on a pledge not to raise taxes, in 1982 and then again in 1986. But as soon as he was safely sworn in, he declared he had not realized the extent of the budget problems and now firmly believed the state needed a tax hike.

Rauner’s proposed expansion of the sales tax to ser-

vices would only bring in $400 million – a drop in the bucket compared to the billions lost from the income tax hike rollback, and wouldn’t begin to provide the revenues needed for his spending promises.

But if you listen carefully, you’ll often hear him say he hasn’t completely ruled out expanding that new tax to other services I’ve been told by people who have regular private contact with him that Rauner intends to drastically expand that service tax beyond what he’s claiming now to replace some of the revenues from gradually phasing out the income tax hike.

Back to last week’s debate.

“I don’t agree with the tax policies that were put in place in Kansas,” Rauner declared in response to Dunn-Thomason’s question. In other words, no tax cuts without regard for consequences.

He then returned to his familiar talking points about looking “at the entire tax code” to close corporate loopholes and “broaden the base, lower the rates.” Putting that into context with his Kansas statement, to me at least, supported what I’ve heard about what he actually intends to do.

A tax on services naturally will dampen growth and lower the overall burden on the wealthy – a totally legit debate to have if it comes to that.

I admit I’m counting on the fact that he’s lying through his teeth about taxes. And even a broad service tax will replace only about a third of the income tax cut he says he wants.

But when he publicly rejected the Kansas model last week, I breathed a quiet sigh of relief.

The Indians, team qualifiers in Class AA in 2005, started their 2A run in 2007, culminating in a third-place finish at Illinois State’s Weibring course in 2011. On Monday, they wedged their way out of a tough 2A group to start another streak.

“This is a whole different group from last year,” Hollatz said. “It’s nice these kids get to experience going downstate.

It’s so cool to go downstate, especially as a team. It’s a lot more fun as a team. The camaraderie is a lot better. They root for each other more.”

Matt Groebe led the Indians with a 6-over 78, which tied for eighth place overall. The scores

of Joe Palovic (80), Ray Sullivan (81) and Dan Orednik (84) also counted in the team total.

“I was nervous for us as a team,” said Groebe, who triple-bogeyed the 17th hole and hit two other balls out of bounds – one on a weird carom off a green – in a round that could have been much better.

“I knew if we were going to play well as a team, I was going to have to play well, too.”

Groebe also collected birdies on the second, eighth, 10th and 12th holes, bouncing back from several misadventures immediately.

There was a big difference, however.

The Celtics missed qualifying for state by two strokes in 2013. In Monday’s Class 3A Homewood-Flossmoor Sectional at Balmoral Woods, they finished with a 312 total to claim the title by one stroke over Normal Community and H-F. “This was really nuts,” said senior Mickey Brick, who led the Celtics with a 2-over-par 74. “Watching the scores come in and having it be so close, it was exactly like last year.”

Brick was the first Celtic to tee off and finish. For the most part, he has been coach John Platt’s No. 1 player. Platt

played him in the sixth spot to get a good score posted.

Normal finished second on the fifth-player tiebreaker.

The top three teams advance to this weekend’s state meet at Bloomington.

Edwardsville shot 315, and Lincoln-Way Central and Minooka tied for fifth at 316, three shots from a qualifying position. Pekin came in at 317 and Sandburg at 322 in the ultimate tight sectional.

“We would have been second had we shot 313 instead of 312,” Platt said. “The thing is, we shot 312, and we’re leaving six shots on the course with the way we finished. We were at 306 until the last couple of holes. The guys have got to close it out.

“On the other hand, now we’re at state. The guys need to focus on just playing and having fun.”

“We didn’t come here caring about winning,” Brick said. “We just cared about being in the top three. This was our highest score of the year, but we hung tough and grinded it out.”

“We averaged 297 for the season,” Platt said. “But that doesn’t mean anything. You still have to come out and play. It’s almost worse being favored in a sectional.”

Advancing as individuals to state were Lincoln-Way Central junior Anthony Bolden, who shot 74 to finish third individually; and Knights senior Scott Mueller, whose 75 tied for fourth. Pekin’s Drake Bushong was the medalist with a 69.

Joliet Township senior Trent Wallace shot 77 and was

involved in a seven-way playoff for the last five qualifying spots. He advanced when he put a hybrid shot within 10 feet from 225 yards out on the 510-yard, par-5 No. 1 hole. He three-putted for par, but that was good enough.

“My putting was awful today,” said Wallace, who is making his fourth trip to state.

“Bad putting, bad decisions, bad golf. But it doesn’t matter what you shoot as long as you make it.”

“When it came to playoff time, I saw a whole new focus on Trent’s face,” Joliet coach Ed Larson said.

Minooka’s Ryan Johnson and Noah Lindmark also were in the playoff but were eliminated on No 1 as both ran into difficulty and took 7s.

Lincoln-Way Central’s other counting scores were Matt Kadubek’s 83 and Peter Kolyvas’ 84.

“We thought we had to shoot a little better than 316 to get out, but our kids played well,” Central coach Dan Szablewski said.

Minooka also counted Sam Smolkevich’s 80 and Steve Andreano’s 82.

“We didn’t play our best, but under these [foggy early, and damp] weather conditions and the pressure, the kids played well,” Minooka coach Brian Petrovic said.

“We have a lot of seniors, and they’ve had a great run. I would have liked to see them get to state as a team. Unfortunately, we did not make our share of putts.”

The other area golfers – Joliet’s Kyler O’Connell and Mark Boykin, and Lincoln-Way East’s Lee Hill, Victory Perez, Jake White and Jimmy Goich – did not advance, although Hill and Perez did shoot 79 and White 80.

LOCKPORT – To Lemont boys golf coach Mark Hollatz, the old saying rings true.

Two’s company, and three’s a crowd.

Moving back into cozy Class 2A means the Indians are moving on once again in boys golf.

They qualified Monday for the Illinois High School Association’s 2A state championship for the sixth time, securing third place in the rain-swept sectional at Broken Arrow Golf Course.

“We had some good teams, but were the smallest team in 3A the last two years,” Hollatz said. “Coming back to 2A, I knew we could do something.

It’s a nice accomplishment.

I didn’t care if it was first or third. Just to make it was good.”

It was third, but a state berth is a state berth. Lemont’s score of 35-over-par 323 trailed only winner Glenbard South (309) and Latin (315), a private Chicago school. The Indians

“This was our goal, to go downstate,” Groebe said. “Anything else is extra at this point.

It would be great if we could finish top five or something.”

Lincoln-Way West and Joliet Catholic Academy tied for seventh at 62-over 350. Sean Knights paced the Warriors with a 13-over 85, a two-birdie round offset by a four-putted green, while Brandon Smith’s 83 led the Hilltoppers. Smith’s score was two strokes more than the 81 needed to make the playoff for the final berths in Normal.

“I expected to be in the high 70s,” said Smith, whose card was birdie-free. “For a while, I couldn’t grip my club because of the rain. That was on a few of my bad holes.”

Coal City finished 10th in the 12-team tournament with a total of 67-over 355. The Coalers were led by the 12-over 84 of Jack Scerine. Peotone’s Jake Nietfeldt fired an 87, while teammate Matt Rehfeldt turned in a 103.

Shaw Media Correspondent CREST HILL – During the first of two weather stoppages Monday, Lockport’s Luke Trent got an idea of how the Class 3A Hinsdale Central Sectional was going at Prairie Bluff Golf Club.

“I came in and saw the scores. It was a little nerve-racking, that everyone was a little low,” Trent said.

In a field that included defending state champion Hinsdale Central, Trent still earned a place in the state meet by shooting an even-par 72 (35-37) over the 6,466-yard course to claim one of 10 individual spots.

The field was so strong that the seven golfers who shot 74 had a one-hole playoff to determine who’d be the final three state qualifiers.

Trent was the only individual to advance from the 10 local golfers who qualified for the sectional from the Lockport Regional.

“I was hitting my drives mostly where I wanted to,” Trent said. “I started sticking my irons pretty close. I had a couple 2- to 4-footers for birdies that helped.”

“It didn’t start raining that bad, just a little mist in the beginning,” he said. “Then it started getting pretty nice during the middle. There wasn’t a lot of wind, so that helped.

“At the end, the wind started to pick up and it was rain-

ing, but we were prepared.”

Trent described his approach to the sectional event as a little different from a regular-season tournament.

“I wanted to take it easy in the beginning and see how I was hitting,” he said. “I wouldn’t go exactly for the pin. Then I realized I was hitting pretty good, so I started going for the pins.”

Next is the state meet Friday and Saturday at The Den at Fox Creek in Bloomington.

“Hopefully, I can play like I did today, hitting pretty straight,” Trent said. “Hopefully, I’m not nervous. It should be really fun. I’m glad I got to go to state, especially my senior year.”

Plainfield South senior Isaiah Pina, the Lockport Regional champ, rebounded with a 35 on the back nine and nearly made the individual playoff with a 75.

“I’m actually happy,” he said. “I shot 40 on the front nine, didn’t start out very well. I’m proud of myself for bouncing back.

“It was definitely a grind.

I just tried to take it shot by shot, make the next shot better than the last one.”

Other top local individuals included Lockport’s John Parker (76) and Plainfield North’s Taylor Hollingshaus (76).

The three teams to move on were champion Hinsdale Central (284), York (293) and Lyons Township (294). Wheaton Warrenville South (296) and Benet (298) also scored below 300 but didn’t advance. Lyons’ Jon Hudson earned medalist honors with a round of 68.

NEW LENOX – Alexis Biedrzycki was hoping to have a good showing to create momentum for another strong state finish, while Kelly Sterling was looking for a rare fourth trip downstate in her quest for an elusive medal.

Meanwhile, Alyssa Gromala wanted to earn a second straight state appearance, while Kayla Garritson had her sights set on competing at state for the first time in her career.

All four athletes achieved their goals during Monday’s Class AA Lincoln-Way Central Sectional at The Sanctuary.

As a result, they all earned a spot at this weekend’s finals, at Hickory Point Golf Course in Decatur.

Lincoln-Way West senior Biedrzycki claimed fourth place overall with a 70, while Lincoln-Way East senior Sterling shot a 72 to tie for fifth.

Providence sophomore Gromala turned in a 74, while Lockport senior Garritson posted a 79.

Waubonsie Valley’s Bing Singhsumalee earned medalist honors with a 66, while Metea Valley’s Katelyn Kline (68) and Neuqua Valley’s Jessica Yuen (69) were next best. Hinsdale Central (304), Sandburg (310) and Waubonsie (314) advanced as teams.

Biedrzycki, who placed fourth in 2012 but did not compete a year ago, turned in nines of 34 and 36 to earn her third state trip.

“Today and the past couple of weeks have been momentum-builders for me,” Biedrzycki said. “The biggest struggle for me lately has been my putter. I haven’t been getting things to drop or felt comfortable, but today they started to drop. It was nice to compete against Bing, Jess and Kelly since we’re good friends and have played together for a long time.”

Sterling shot a 36 on each nine, but even a triple-bogey on her 17th hole did not keep her from earning her fourth trip to state.

And Garritson fired a 39 and 40 to became the first Porter qualifier since her sister Krystal made her third straight trip in 2011.

“It was kind of disappointing not to make state as many times as Krystal did, but she’s the type of person that when she wants something, she gets it,” Garritson said. “I didn’t have the drive for the sport until last winter, and I’ve changed a lot in my swing. I played my heart out today.

‘A horrible disease’ Plainfield respiratory therapist provides support to ALS patients

dunland@shawmedia.com PLAINFIELD – Lisa Gorsky of Plainfield is thankful for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge – less for its fun and fundraising, and more for the widespread awareness it has raised.

When Gorsky’s father-inlaw, Ed Gorsky of Romeoville, was diagnosed with the disease six months after she began providing respiratory therapy services at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, only Gorsky initially understood the grim news.

“I had to explain to his family members, ‘He’s going to die,’ ” Gorsky said.

ALS – amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease – is a progressive neurodegenerative motor neuron disease, said Dr. Scott Heller, a neurologist who sees patients at the center. This means the motor nerve cells to the brain and spinal cord degenerate, leading to muscle weakness.

“It’s a fatal disease,” Heller said, “usually due to respiratory insufficiency.”

An increase in breathlessness was Ed’s first symptom of ALS, Gorsky said. Recently retired and accustomed to walking from the train station to his Chicago office, Ed, 70 and a smoker, was healthy and active, despite mild emphysema.

For most patients, respiratory changes occur late in the disease, Heller said. Initial symptoms vary.

“It can be as simple as hand weakness when clipping fingernails, buttoning buttons or tying shoes,” Heller said. “It can begin with gait disturbances, such as foot drop. The individual may notice he’s dragging one foot or there may be abnormal irritability in the muscles, twitching and cramping.”

According to the ALS Association, www.alsa.org, comprehensive diagnostic workup may include some or all of the following procedures: n Electrodiagnostic tests including electomyography (EMG) and nerve conduction velocity (NCV). n Blood and urine studies, including high-resolution serum protein electrophoresis, thyroid and parathyroid hormone levels, and 24-hour urine collection for heavy metals. n Spinal tap. n X-rays, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). n Myelogram of cervical spine. n Muscle and/or nerve biopsy. n Thorough neurological examination.

No single test absolutely diagnoses ALS, Heller said, although certain laboratory and nerve function tests, along with MRIs, exclude other conditions and thus suggest ALS. “It’s a clinical diagnosis,” Heller said.

Deep empathy for patients such as Ed led Gorsky to become a respiratory therapist.

She had noticed how breathing difficulties affected people mentally, emotionally and physically, and she wanted to offer relief.

“I help them live a better life,” said Gorsky, a respiratory therapist for 20 years. “It makes a big difference.”

After earning a liberal arts degree at the University of Illinois at Chicago, Gorsky studied respiratory therapy at Waubonsee Community College in Aurora, then worked at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago, as well as what is now Presence

Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.

A desire for a personalized connection and greater impact for patients led Gorsky into the home care field for Walgreens. Gorsky said she cared for patients of all ages with a variety of respiratory disorders. Her clients included those with spinal cord injuries, tracheotomies and ventilators.

Eight years ago, Walgreens – and later Hill-Rom, where Gorsky now is employed – began working with patients at the Les Turner/ Lois Insolia ALS Center at Northwestern. In addition to providing respiratory therapy, Gorsky educates patients about any equipment they need and helps them return home.

It was at the ALS center 10 years ago that Gorsky learned about the support and information the Les Turner ALS Foundation gives patients

and their families. She helped form the Northwestern Dream Team to participate in the annual Les Turner ALS Walk for Life, which this year was Sept. 21.

The foundation funds three laboratories, each focused on a different aspect of ALS research: genetics, upper motor neuron system, and stem cell, Heller said.

Under Gorsky’s enthusiasm for the cause, the Northwestern Dream Team has since grown to 50 members, mostly hospital staff, Gorsky said, but a few vendors, too.

Family and friends of patients also participate, but on their own teams.

“It’s such a horrible disease,” Gorsky said, “but because the walk is a fun day, it allows us to not focus on the sadness.”

Gorsky encounters plenty of the latter. Recently at the clinic, Gorsky, 42, met a 41-year-old wheelchair-bound

9 and 12. Gorsky’s 9-year-old was just born when her father-in-law, Ed, was diagnosed. Ed died a year later.

“This patient can’t hold her children or lie down with them in bed,” Gorsky said. “It puts a different perspective on what patients are going through.”

Some studies suggest attending a multidisciplinary clinic, such as the one at Northwestern, prolongs life and quality of life, Heller said. Patients may live 7½ years after diagnosis, as opposed to two to five years for those not attending such a clinic, he added.

Treatment is multi-faceted and adapted to patients but may include Riluzole, the only FDA-approved medication for ALS, Heller said.

Treatments and devices to support breathing also may be included, along with sessions with a dietitian, especially when the disease attacks the muscles that control swallowing.

Another crucial part of migraine management is prevention. Certain activities, foods and other factors can trigger migraines.

Identifying and avoiding your headache triggers may help reduce how often you have migraines and how badly they hurt. Common triggers include: • Caffeine (either too much or less than usual); • Certain foods and drinks, including those that contain tyramine (aged cheeses and meats, fermented drinks); sulfites (preserved foods, wines); and monosodium glutamate (MSG); • Stress, or (more often) relaxing following a stressful day; • Hormone levels (which may be affected by menstrual cycles or hormone-containing medication); • Lack of sleep; • Travel; • Changes in weather or altitude; • Overuse of pain medications.

Also ask your doctor about preventive medications.

These are prescription drugs taken every day to reduce the number and the severity of migraines. The drugs, also all used to treat other conditions, include beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, ACE inhibitors, anti-seizure drugs and some drugs used for depression.

Dear Doctor K: I’m a woman in my 30s who has suffered from sinus headaches for years. Allergy medications haven’t helped. What else can I try?

Dear Reader: Seasonal allergies can cause sinus congestion, sneezing and a runny nose. But when you experience pain and pressure in your head, it may be time to consider other causes. That’s because sinus problems do not usually cause headaches.

At least, they don’t cause what most people refer to when they use the term “headache.” Most people with sinus congestion refer to “head congestion,” not headache.

I spoke to my Harvard Medical School colleague Dr. William Kormos. He said that if you’re regularly experiencing headaches with nasal congestion, you may have migraine headaches. That’s because migraines can cause sinus pressure and clear discharge, just as they can cause the eyes to get red and teary.

People with migraine headaches are often misdiagnosed with sinus problems. That may be because many people don’t associate sinus pain and pressure with migraine headaches. In fact, more than 80 percent of migraine sufferers report sinus pain and pressure. Half also experience nasal congestion or a runny nose. To add to the confusion, weather changes are common migraine triggers. So your migraines might follow a pattern you associate with – and mistake for – seasonal allergies.

A doctor should be able to diagnose the type of headaches you are experiencing. He or she will make the diagnosis based on an accurate, detailed description of your symptoms. For example, nausea, vomiting or sensitivity to light or sound are clues that your pain is related to migraines.
